Rather than having “no reason for LGBT to be accepted”
it is far more the case of “no reason for LGBT to NOT be accepted”
Tyria is a fantasy world. Whilst it may have some resemblence to our Earth; there are many things that are different, and thus none of our norms could apply.
How is having dragons, multiple sentient races, so many different types of magic, and the mists; how are all of these more believable than the acceptance of LGBT relationships?
Our discriminations are mostly learned-and-taught. I would go as far as to say that “not being able to have children” is more a retrospective excuse for discrimination, rather than any sort of reason for it.
After all: many animals show homosexual tendencies.
whereas the human race is the only species to display homophobia…
personally (and speaking as a female player)
I really, really like the female heavy cast. It makes such a good contrast to very nearly every single other game ever. There are just too few female characters in games in general, and even then, they fall into a Lara Croft Syndrome (strong female character, but hypersexualised/objectified).
however: I also feel the focus on gender is too strong, and we should really be looking at toher things. IMO A-Net have done a great job of bringing us a variety of interesting characters.
There are immature ones (Braham and Rox, albeit in very different ways)
strong stoic characts (Marjory, Eir)
completely smitten characters (Kasmeer, Logan)
strong characters that also show emotion (Kasmeer again)
compeltely insane characters (Scarlet Briar)
and so many more – they just now need a story to really present them well enough ^
I agree with others in that… A-Net themselves haven’t done anything to encourage this (though I do wish they would work on finding ways to remove the zerker-meta)
But I do agree with OP that there are a lot of players who are unpleasant in who they will kick etc.
my boyfriend got kicked not too long ago after the group wiped a couple of times (and he’s a very experienced Zerker player)
tips for finding nice groups:
look for ones that advertise as friendly, or welcoming to new players
advertise yourselves as friendly; and as new players
there are also plenty of players who are ready and willing to teach others the game – as long as you listen to them and want to learn
I personally prefer playing with new players; I like my dungeons to be casual and fun
and speed-running just ruins the fun for me
(and at the end of the day – AP are only the vaguest of indications of dungeon skill. I’ve known people with barely a couple of thousand be absolutely pros at dungeons because that’s all they’ve ever played; and I’ve also known players with near 10k dungeons completely mess up; because they play compeltely different content normally)
ps. - if you ever need a group, feel free to message me in-game ^^
Just as a note, they already said they are trashing the old cinematic style which means that a new race will have a radically different personal story style than the previous races, and that also means, we wont likely have them share the storyline the current five races do.
They will probably be some kind of great big nod to the living story as a means of encouraging people to recap what was forgotten, which would be interesting.
Also: the personal story of the other 5 races is set before the living story
another one would have to be set after; and (especially if we think of the Tengu who were right next to Lion’s) so a new personal story would likely have to be set after, and thus reference pieces of the living story
rather like this idea
the loose ends are what make me really excited for the next Living Story
I mean… look at Scarlet’s constant taunts at Caithe. What could that actually mean?
might it have something to do with Scarlet’s plan? (and the reason why – which we are still unsure of? ish?)
and there are likely to be loads I’ve forgotten about /missed
personally… I can’t give a mark out of ten
I missed a a few really large chunks near the beggining, so hard to comment on them
overall…
the variety of things happening was nice. Like, activites, couple of new areas/maps, new dungeon, new fractals, zerg content, 5 man content, big world bosses…..
I would personally liked to have seen potentially more variation within each patch, and between adjacent patches
but also – for the zerg-based content to be a little more rewarding to farmers simply to stop them giving up on the content (even if this were something like the heirlooms/lost possessions in the most recent patches – a form of currency/item of which a lot is needed just to buy something really special)
the story… some parts were good (I personally loved the new NPCs… a lot)
some parts were… not so good (whilst I didn’t hate Scarlet; I can understand some of the hate… mad villains are really overdone; and we still don’t know her reasoning?)
At the end of the day: it is new content
for free
so… can’t complain, not when some of it has been surprisingly good (whislt others mildly disappointing)
and… I am really looking forward to the next season and what it might bring
I figured it was because Marjory was closer….
Braham was stood rather statically nearby, talking
and then Majory went in for a charged-attack, thus looked closer (right up until the clip where both got blasted back)
Could also be that: Scarlet was targeting Marjory (as she was the one attacking)
or simply a case of how they both landed
Braham- landed on leg, hence broken
whereas Marjory looked more as though she landed on had head/face
definitely going to have to check out the red knight….
I do love when NPCs res you, but spent longer last night crying out to Braham who ran over my dying body to res a friend instead >.>
Rox was much better… until she got hit by one of the horrendous knockbacks >.>
I don’t think the current behaviour of the Tengu will have much affect on whether they will be playable
Them shooting players who get too close… it’s just a way of “not ignoring them” without forcing them into a story before they are ready to be introduced.
It could easily be addressed by future updates/story etc.
-they could be ahving further problems with destroyers that are more important as they are inside the city
-they might not be able to tell us apart from Scarlet’s hoardes, and thus not want to take the slightest risk
-they are alrady extremely untrusting of other races and isolationist: why would they help?
-there may be small factions within the city wishing to help, but either aren’t powerful enough or are too few to make a difference
I’m personally really, really hoping to see them as a playable race…
I use all keyboard (well… and mousepad to ground target)
I tend to be a bit slower turning (timed jumping puzzles are a bit no-no) but… using a mouse to spin the camera actually makes me feel a little queasy….
inclined to agree with crosknight ^
whilst I may be slightly biased (Tengu are my absolute favourite race and I want nothing more than to play as them)
I don’t want to see the whole of Tyria hating on the Tengu….
they are merely protecting their border, with extreme prejudice (very similar to “Butcher what isn’t us.” ~Magnus the Bloody-Handed, no?)
as of yet, they oprobably don’t know who to trust
and we can be fairly certain that no actual refugees have even tried to go down there, just us players
We also have no idea what is going on inside the dominion of the winds as of yet
for all we know the entire palce could be being ransacked by destroyers
or the citizens inside could be in their own uproar about not helping LA, with a select group making the decision not to get involved
as for the other races hating them forever – I doubt this will be the case
the Charr and the Humans were warring for hundreds of years, and eventually soted themselves out
and just look at how the Asura treated the sylvari upon for meeting them
that all said and done…
this more feels like… a way to just keep us awway from the DoW rather than an actual meaningful plot-point
just a way of brushing the Tengu aside to avoid actually bringing them into the story… so we can’t read too much into it
I always want more skins
still looking for the perfect armour for my sylvari mesmer to show off his fabulous glow… female armour’s show enough skin off… so might be nice to have more male armours doing the same?
i’d also be happy with something like… RNG boxes that give something from a selection of skins
e.g. a GW1 box – that gave one of the GW1 weapons for certain
that way you still have the RNG element, but you are also guaranteed to get something decent
(and be even nicer to make them avaible to sell on the TP in order to trade around in case you got a weapon you simply couldn’t use… OR said weapon boxes could be seperated into weapon type to avoid getting unusable skins)
I also wouldn’t mind another way to get black lion claim tickets/scraps if it were possible
and maybe even just a face (or head) change kit
so one can access the exclusive faces; without having to buy a total makeover kit
and lastly: exclusing body patterns/tattoos etc in the total makeover kit. (though unsure what they would do for humans)
Tengu – top of my list simply because I love their design, and just all the lore surrounding them. They also seem somewhat likely a candidate – their city has space on the map, they were originally a strong candidate for being one of the original playable races etc.
Largos – I can only imagine some of the customisation available (those gorgeous fin-like wings) and they would fit well into an expansion concerning the deep-sea dragon. However, I can’t see them as being very likely simply because of them potentially being underwater-based, and underwater combat seems to be somewhat unpopular (and I just can’t imagine an entire map underwater) I would lvoe to be proved wrong
Margonites – I’ve only stumbled across this race recently… but think they’d fit in well with a crytal desert expansion. They could also have, again, brillaitn customisation options. And potentially a lot of lore surrounding them (especially conerning Abaddon, and Kormir now residing in the Realm of Torment)
those are the races I would love to see
if honest- the Kodan would disappoint me a little. Whislt they would fit perfectly into a northern expansion – they don’t appear to have much in the way of customisation, and even more, their faces are incredibly low detail in game currently (easily changed, but to me just implies a lack of interest in them currently)
I main Necromancer
I main minion-master Necromancer
it has become second nature to me to apologise for the minion’s behaviours just before running dungeons (especially that pesky flesh golem…)
but I do believe most of the minion hate is fairly unfounded
sure they can pull things you don’t want pulled – but i’m more than used to that happening
my proudest moments include where Flesh Golem decided to solo Subject Alpha (CoE) knocking down a quarter of his health
and when the minion-group decided to effectively ‘break’ Alphard, Serpent of the Waves (Arah) – not exactly sure what happened, as I’m unfamiliar with the dungeon,
but thereafter the minions were actually requested for by that group of friends
Never heard of that logic.

Aethetics play a much larger role, possibly even more so in the case of non-human characters
why else would I have spent the time picking the perfect shade of purple for my Sylvari?
whereas – I also have characters based on other things – such as my Sylvari based on Midna from Twilight Princess and my Ratchet and Clanks themed Charr
and lastly… I do love characters that are unusual… not that mine are particularly hehe :P
I’m just wondering… what sort of things do you consider when creating a character?
there are so many things to choose from… like race, gender, skin colour, eye and hair etc.
Logic says you’d want to create a character that looks like yourself, so you can relate to them better
but personally.. none of my characters look like me at all
(my only human is male, and irl, I’m female)
