Let me preface by saying I was also one of those that DC’d during the last stage. But there was another issue entirely for those of us on Dragonbrand. A large group of us logged in early on Sunday to ensure we had priority on the regular server. We started the final boss fight at 12:00PM and were about an hour in to the fight when the NPC bugged. In fear of losing our place on the server, many of us sat by for 10 hours by the NPC hoping that he would either move or waiting for a courtesy PM from Anet which never came. I left at hour 9 because I had heard on the forums that people were having success at the last minute. Sadly my last try ended near the boss when the server reset at 10PM.

In my 35 plus years of gaming, I had never once felt compelled to go on to a company site to complain but I found myself doing so with this event. I was so angry at the time and almost two days later that anger has not yet resided. To find out later that precursors were given out, possibly to non-paying customers was like an extra bat to the head when you are already down for the count. You see, I’m a family man and I can easily have done something else on Sunday but I bought into the hype and excitement and even after 2 underwhelming phases, still wanted to take part in what I thought would be an epic Sunday.

Yes, I bought the game like the rest of you and maybe you can buy into the idea that they owe us nothing since it’s a non-subscription game. Many of us though, out of loyalty to Anet, continue to purchase gems in order to support the Company. My plea to Anet, please do the right thing by way of your customers. Whether you DC’d, had your server bugged or just unfortunate to live on another continent, just do the right thing and remind us why we love this extraordinary game.

At least you were working and not standing next to an NPC for 8 hours. Those of us on the regular server on dragonbrand stood by a broken NPC for 8 hours hoping to get the final quest chain to start. Not once did Anet log in to tell us it was OK to log nor did we know we could drop to do the quest on an overflow. We all stuck it out in fear of losing our spot and chance at the loot. The final quest never completed and we were left to to have Anet reset the server letting us know the monster had been defeated. What made it worse is that by the time that many of us took the plunge and logged onto a new overflow, it was too late to complete. We were either DC’d or in my case, I was right at the end of the final boss to only have Anet reset the servers at 10AM pacific. I would gladly have gone to work versus wasting a sunday watching a screen for 8 hrs. I’m hard pressed to ever remember a situation this disappointing in my 30 years as a gamer. I can now say that I totally understand why my buddies were so pissed for the Gates of Anq. Thank god I was vacationing that weekend but no such luck this time.

Thank you to anyone that invited me into their groups. If I do stay with this game, it will because of the community and not because of Anet. Some of us sat on a broken npc for 9 hours to the bitter end hoping that the event would start. I did leave that last hour in hopes of finding a new server and many of your were kind enough to provide invites only to have server restarts and a new build screw up the final battle. Those that I spoke to on Dragonbrand that did stay all 9 hours were there til the bitter end only to have the new build tell them that the event was finished when it never got farther than the NPC at the mid-point of the cave.

Don’t feel bad guys, I sat with you for 8 hours and made the leap to log on one of these other servers at 9PM pac. I found one, got almost to the boss, only to get booted near the end for a 10PM pac Anet wipe of all the friend accts. I got into one more only to find it replaced with a new build. Game over, gone and nothing to show for it. I almost wish I had stayed on the reg Dragonbrand server, you didn’t miss anything. The sham of it is if they had only told us earlier to find a new server, just a simple courtesy PM sometimes between 12pac today and tonight, we could have completed somewhere else.

Seriously, i sit 8 hours on a broken dragonbrand and finally suck it up and log. Lucky to get on another server and almost got to end and got booted at 10PM pacific. Lucky to get into another server only to have you introduce a new build. God, you just killed probably 50% of all the goodwill you created in your player base in 1 weekend. Way to go. I will gladly go back to my $15 subscription to WOW since you couldn’t get your act together. How ridiculous can you be!

I went ahead and posted on the BIG BOSS picture threat. Got tired of people congratulating Anet on a job well done. I guess they got our $60 at launch and don’t really care. I probably dropped another $60 at the Black Lion Trading Company but kitten if I will give them any more money. Even if they make right, the fact that I wasted a weekend for nothing and they gave out 200G plus precursors is insulting to all of us that have been here since Day 1. Somebody at Anet needs to take a course on how to give Customer Service because it really stinks. Thats OK, let me vent to the npc that has been sitting next to me for 7 hours, I know that he won’t be moving anytime soon.

Wow, let me post our picture from the Dragonbrand server. Oops, thats right, ours bugged out and we are standing next to the NPC in the cave. I got to hand it to the NPC, though, not many people can stand in place for 7 hours without moving. Developers, instead of congratulating yourselves, maybe you can respond to our post and let us know its OK to logoff since we have been sitting here for most of the day. Nice job Anet!

I think what is frustrating is that we didn’t have a DC situation on the regular Dragonbrand server. We followed the NPC, the champion spawned, we killed it then the NPC runs back up to the cave and has been glued here since 12:30 pacific today. We know Anet wants to fix it but everyone is scared to log in case the event starts going today. Just put us out of our misery and tell us its OK to log.
