Warrior has to get close, on a Mesmer I can simply sit back from range and spam clones and shatters. The skill ceiling is ridiculously low.
Even with Time Catches Up, that’s a really good way to get your Shatters blocked/evaded. And you probably want to be in melee range anyway to get the additional torment/confusion stacks from you counting as an extra illusion with each shatter, not to mention any additional bleeds from the fairly common Sigil of Geomancy.

When you play the game of glass, you win or you die.

Its hilarious how the OP draws a picture of, in his mind, how easy it is to kill Mesmers and Thieves – but its really only his shortsightedness . What happens when a Mesmer stands still and auto attacks with his clones?
You get your head on straight and pay attention to the Mesmer that’s attacking faster than the others. You don’t waste your time moaning about how broken they are when you do silly things like ignore the Mesmer who’s dodging, healing, or using Chaos Armor, and fire blindly into Distortion.
I’ve honestly never seen someone complain so much about a match that they weren’t losing.

I think it’s very possible for the game to develop a strong(er) balance, but it seems like it’s going to have to take some new developers. The outright contradiction between the Elementalist and Engineer philosophies doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in the current designers.

There are a lot of interesting ideas and mechanics behind the Engineer class that I’m still intrigued by. I wouldn’t mind checking it out again once it’s out of beta.

Also not to mention when they detonate their clones they can hit you for 16k…
No Mesmer is hitting you for over 16k in one Mind Wrack.

It takes 3 attempt to down a thief or mesmer. Just wack them to death. it is faster.
I just wait for the Mesmer with the large red arrow above their head to appear a split second after their clone and stomp them flat. Their #3 downed ability (Phantasmal Rogue) is nothing more than damage, and their #2 (Stealth + Clone) downed skill has a 15 second cooldown – plenty of time to re-locate the Mesmer.

Stop patronizing us, stop talking nonsense and do your job!
You’ve got one hell of a lot of nerve.

I cannot count how many times I’ve downed a thief in a team fight, and due to the sheer amount of people fighting I can’t possibly give up 20 seconds of my time to chase this guy down. Then one of my ele teammates who is a free stomp gets killed and the thief is right back up murdering me.
Why weren’t you helping your Elementalist instead of running around in confusion? If, for some reason, you couldn’t find the Thief, the next best option is to assist your teammates.
When downing a Thief, here’s two things you can remember – the first time they disappear in the middle of your execute, it’s a teleport. (Developing a better sense of court vision will help you better detect where they’re run off to.) The second time they disappear, it’s stealth. Attack the spot you last saw them in and you’ll be able to interrupt any bandage attempts.
Nice to see yet another thread derail because of 2 massive egos stroking their inflated e-kittens.
Stay classy, gentlemen.
Thank you for your contribution.

No.
I don’t find it fair when I can earn 300 points, and it gets split it with someone who got 20 (a.k.a terrible player).
If this feature was in tournaments, however, I’d like it. But not on sPvP.
Having low points doesn’t necessarily mean the player was bad. They could have just as easily been holding 2-3 players off point while you and the zerg sat on an undefended capture point.

I love the downed state, it’s the big thing that seperates the bad players from the good players.
Yeah it’s the big thing that gives an advantage to bad player over good ones.
Good players aren’t the ones complaining about the downed state.

Great thread, thank you very much.

The “Moa Morph” Elite is far too powerful, It’s basically a 10 second stun. Sure you can move, but very slowly and you do no damage at all.
Moa Morph’s duration is overpowered. It has an immense strength in being able to nullify a good number of other player’s elites, and a reduction in it’s CC would be appropriate.
Downed state on Mesmers is more annoying than thieves, they make a copy of themselves on the ground similar to a thief teleporting around with stealth making you waste much more time trying to down them.
The Mesmer downed state is simple to deal with. When they disappear, wait for a second until they reappear (you can tell where the real Mesmer is by looking for the one with the red arrow above it’s head, and additionally, the clone always appears first). Being unable to insta-stomp them like say, an Elementalist, does not make the ability overpowered.
