“IT’S THE RED WIRE!”
(edited by Garrus.5089)
I spoke with the engineer who put in the fix: out of an abundance of caution the fix was limited to 1080 cards only. If possible, we’re going to try to expand the fix to the entire 10 series cards.
In the meantime, we’d like to try an experiment with those who are still experiencing the shadow flickering related issues: try rolling back your graphics drivers.
I can’t rollback the graphic drivers because i had the same issue since the release of Nvidia Geforce GTX 1070 with all of released WHQL drivers from Nvidia website.
Hmmmm… Garrus…
I’ll try the steam client now. One moment.
EDIT:
Same effect with Steam Client.
Hmm, I guess it may be something specific to each person’s computer. For me the issue was lighting just completely vanishing when I faced certain angles and lighting when it was present, being insanely bright and saturated.
Hopefully a fix will come soon.
This is still a problem for me, even after rolling back my drivers and everything.
It makes the new map completely unplayable. There is no colour anywhere.90% of my lighting has just vanished.
The only way to get my lighting back seems to be turning towards the middle of the map.
I’m on a gtx 770, and the problem persists both on the old drivers and the new.
I have also tried fiddeling with every single graphic setting to no avail. The attached images show you what im talking about.
EDIT:
Alright two minutes after posting this I solved the problem. Starting the game using the actual .exe file found in the game directory fixed it for me. Normally I start the game using a desktop shortcut. This means that the shortcut somehow screwed the game up? I had no idea that such a thing could happen but oh well, it’s fixed for me now
This is exactly the issue I am having too.
Could it be that we just need to start from the .exe to work around this? Because that’s basically what Steam is doing for me when I log into the client through Steam.
(edited by Garrus.5089)
Just thought I’d report in on this further, whether it’s any use.
What I have found is launching GW2 through the desktop shortcut, I get this problem.
When I launch it through Steam which for me the target line is “E:\Guild Wars 2 64 Bit\Guild Wars 2.exe” in Properties – I don’t seem to experience the problem.
Just noticed it now on logging in that last night, I used desktop shortcut without Steam because I was too lazy to sign into Steam and had the lighting bugs.
Then after logging into Steam and then GW2 through Steam, the problem disappeared. I’d assumed it was random but it seems to have successfully repeated exactly that again this morning.
I will test this again right now just to be sure.
EDIT: I just tried again, launching the game through a desktop shortcut guarantees for me that I get the lighting bug, I am running game on the “Best Appearance” preset and on Windows 10. I can provide screenshots if it helps. I’m a Charr Iron Legion Scrapper, not an Asuran scientist so not tech savvy.

Still experiencing problems even after the latest patch. Nvidia GeForce GTX760.
Light only seems to work when I face a certain angle in-game, otherwise yeah it’s just pitch black and relying on NPC locations and fog to see the shape of terrain :P
Reinstalled latest graphics driver, restarted, closed a few programs. Seems to still be happening.

Dunno, I could take a screenshot and show the numbers of WSR vs Surmia. As a Borderland defender (I make EB second priority in the way our guild has organised things) and I can tell you, Surmia can fill my screen with red names in our Borderland sometimes.
Surmia I don’t know whether they are a medium pop server or what but you do just have a kittenload more people on your server that play WvW, not necessarily saying you do have more as a whole PVE and WVW combined but we don’t bother attacking Surmia locations if we think your entire WvW population is going to come and take it back.
Wryog makes a good point though, because we’ve been stuck facing the same 3 enemies for what, 3 weeks? It was a refreshing change to fight somebody else but it does make you wonder whether to wait out the week and grind a dungeon or see if anyone else is bothering with WvW other than the usual players.
EDIT:
Now that I think about it, it may be that we’re calling numbers advantage but not referring to what times. A few times in AS BL we were outmanned, and suddenly we’re not. No specific Commander’s order was to go there, people just do their own thing sometimes.
Oh well, see how it goes anyway.
(edited by Garrus.5089)
Garrus, I SAID KEEP TROLLING !! Stop being nice to them !!
I’m not lol, well, if it’s the case of what I believe where ROS may have 2 commanders, then there’s respect and then there’s just being an kitten to big-up your Commander reputation, to go against an enemy of almost 0% threat just to make it look like you’re a good commander.
lol the only QQ from WSR right now is in response to the first page’s comments of LOLOL WSR ONLY FIGHT WHEN THEY OUTNUMBER.
So, according to that logic, we’d basically just let everyone take our borderland. Which is obviously not the case.
WSR has it’s prime time like any other server but /obviously/ the higher pop servers can just waltz in with a casual amount of people that is considered huge to us.
Further finding a few people solo’ing or running to other areas of defence doesn’t mean disorganisation just because you found a few people doing that. There are ALWAYS people in World Vs World who will do their own thing.
But yeah ROS I can forgive, they tend to leave us alone, I believe there’s a sympathetic commander in there somewhere who leaves us alone until another commander completely hellbent on attacking the lesser threat decides to march in.
That is, unless we really are a bigger threat than Arborstone despite the points difference?
Also, to debunk an argument on numbers –
Yes, we WILL outnumber you if half your zerg kittening runs away, obviously. Then we chase down your stragglers and the QQ “OMG SUPERIOR NUMBERS QQ”

I was extremely tempted to change my warrior to a white tiger charr last night but went with orange :P
Has the following never worked previously? Because I never really noticed it doing so before if it did.
But yeah, I put a rifle turret down against a dummy target. Put a fire combo field down around it and made it shoot the dummy target and it applied burning but only occasionally would it do so despite the heart coming up saying burning/blindness etc.
I just tried before and never noticed it doing it before the update but had a hunch that maybe it’d been “fixed”.
Can’t really tell a difference in lvl 80 maps :/
Did they really do anything to kits?No nothing i can see i think people are all on a placebo, nothing changed…
Yeah just look at the med kit, it’s effectively useless without healing power stats now.
Drop Medkit, heals 96 for me now and I have very little focus on healing power.
I have runes of the Grove on every piece of my Armor and Healing turret Regen is 62 nothing is fixed its still a broken class…wake up people.
It’s somewhat difficult to tell when you never really bothered looking at the numbers previously when the kits never were affected by stats. So now Im looking at the numbers and I can’t really say because I never needed to pay attention previously.
I believe they said in a previous thread this isn’t the cure. This is just a treatment so that the cure will actually work. And it has some noticeable effect, it’s just one of a few steps on the road.
Laying the foundations, if you will.
Being an Iron Legion Engineer sends you to repair often deadly equipment in even deadlier environments…
Yeah, nah it’s fine. It’s me, I should be kept away from trying to count numbers lol
I basically was in the mists and forgot that the 5k healing was from in the mists and not in PVE. How I didn’t realise this, I don’t know. It’s like my brain can’t allocate enough memory to maths and only when it comes to maths lol
Nah, edited post just as you posted yours.
I confused myself, horribly.
Forget I mentioned.
I was in the mists at the time of discussing it last night. I just double checked now and went to the mists.
What I thought it healed, 1,100 per med kit drop, was in mists only. Then I got the update, thrown back into pve land and saw the med kits did nothing because I had no healing power.
While the healing may have gone down, so that healing power can now play a role, I have made a massive mistake lol

My healing with Med Kit hasn’t reduced at all—I’m not sure how retaining stats you were otherwise losing in it would make it suddenly drop, outside of outright bugging.
The way the kits have been affected is now starting to become understandable, they have been made so that they’re effective if you want them to be, rather than having a set healing rate. If you want to be a field medic, now you can be.
Bomb Kit uses conditions which are secondary damages to the blast, in theory, power would affect it immediately but I’ve actually forgot to check.
Otherwise, I am using Tank Cat build, no real focus on healing, big focus on having big health bar.
Iron to my grave.
cough charr cough
I believe when they say that damage is boosted to the highest available exotic at that level etc.
They mean how a rifle equipped by an engineer, no matter exotic or legendary or whatever, it will always, always do 1090 damage. Which if I remember correctly is the highest damage available on a rifle’s stats to an engineer.
So it’s pretty much that I guess.
Are you taking top damage or average damage?
Because top damage for rifle is 1205, with 1095 average.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_RifleIf the hero panel is displaying attack using the average damage with a kit equipped, and top damage with rifle equipped, it might explain the difference (would need to double check the numbers).
Whatever the damage is on the two numbers, the last of the two numbers 500-1000 etc, it’d be the 1000 I’d imagine. That’s just how I’m interpreting it from what’s been said by Anet, but it could well mean something entirely different in game.
I can confirm that stats do affect kits.
The med kit at least.
I have very bad healing with it now. [Bandage Self] heals like barely anything now. Med kit drops heal 95.
Just a quick realisation.
Correct me if I am indeed wrong but I believe that this only takes your damage rating into account from your lowest damage weapon. So having a shield, which obviously does lower damage than pistol, it will take the stat from the shield.
I’m a bit sleepy and I may be stating the obvious here but I only realised this now.

There’s low calibre, and there’s high calibre.
But there ain’t anything like charr caliber :P
As for the shot above, 9/10. Should be more funny charr pictures :P

Well I do say in proximity chat, in character, when I use my mortar or turrets.
I put a rifle turret down or my mortar in WvW and people who’ve never used them or seen them before, they run over and stare at it and I turn around and say “Stop. Don’t touch that.”, “Stop touching that, don’t.” and I get my mortar back :P
It’s the same as kids playing “army”.
“Bang bang I got you, you’re dead. 50 bullets in the head”
“No you didn’t, you missed me”.
That kind of pretend game is what I imagine they’re at the stage of, and saying they’re too pretty to die could be just self approval of her own image. Frowning on a scab is natural as a kid as children seem to be unpredictably repulsed or unpredictably curious on objects of interest that we as a modern society would otherwise see as unclean or silly to mess around with.
I personally can’t stand the Cultural Heavy armours on charr. One looks like a warthog, one looks like a cage and tier 3 just doesn’t look practical and is too clippy.
Vigil Helm is probably the best one so far I think.
I kinda like the sabretooth canine teeth look on the females but yeah I think the males could do with some more practical dental alignment.
By some of these arguments, it sounds like if one person takes it, it’s a problem. But if everyone else took it too, then MF would not be a problem. Everyone would then end up having to compensate anyway.
By all means though, don’t gimp yourself too hard, compensate with food to get that 100% instead of being all 100% MF armour.
Iron needs scouts because their machines can’t smell intruders. Blood needs scouts because their clanking and stomping would give their position away.
If you think about it, every Legion needs various classes for varying tasks and Blood would really benefit from a quiet, rugged tracker in the forests with an Ashford raised devourer pet. The same way how Iron Legion has designated marksmen and sharpshooters and Ash has heavy armoured guys for when it’s not the time for tactics but the time for kicking the door in.
Charr are basically large cats. If you’ve sat next to a tiger or lion that’s tamed, I have, and they’re huge.
I can see where the inspiration comes from, tigers are big beasts, charr are just large cats with weapons and I think it makes sense that they’re almost 10ft tall.
On the threat from humans, it’s fantasy, people have ridiculous strength and armour and skill, might is what you make of it I guess. The sheer rage of a warlord can make him snap iron with his bare hands etc.
Originally my main was a grey with black tiger stripes but deleted it.
Then went for a plain white charr engineer in the Iron Legion style robes. Got bored, went orange with black tiger stripes and orange eyes.
Second main after that was a charr warrior, white tiger black stripes in Vigil Armour who I also changed to orange with green eyes and black tiger stripes.
At the end of the day I just got bored of the white and went for orange tiger.
edit: I found that white tiger seems to work nicer with female charr, but orange male charr seem to look right.
People’s tears taste sweeter than virtual, scripted enemy tears.

You can call me mad but I think that you’ll actually see some people moving downwards to lower tier servers.
WsR just had a few people move in who were bored out of their eye sockets of constant deadlocks and battling the same 2 servers every week.
People seem to be flocking like the apocalypse is coming, to a higher server just because it’ll cost them more to move to a server of high population when there’s nothing wrong with their server anyway.
Just my 2 pence on the lag issue.
I did transfer to Crystal Desert for a week recently, and while the WvW was mostly non laggy, there was days where I couldn’t bear to play from 3/4 of a second lag to whole 2 seconds lag, definitely noticable. Fire your weapon or dodge and it took way too long.
On transfers though, I think there will be a significant and noticable amount of people moving down to lower pop servers for more, “contained” battle. WSR where I am, we have smaller numbers but what other guild members have said are otherwise good fights. We’re suffering as a whole, as lower population servers, from people flocking to higher tier servers probably in the hope of that they will get constant wins or more larger scale battles. Because let’s face it, nobody likes to lose. But too many people take it lying down or just leave all together.
The only benefit I see personally at the moment to that is the overnight fighting which may or may not be huge, as a late shift worker IRL myself. Which lower tier servers lack.
Ah man, I’m itching for some WvW but don’t know if an RL friend is coming round or not. Don’t wanna get involved and then have to go offline :v
Oh right, well that may explain it :P
Hah, no hard feelings. Just had a little jip at the Gunnars when we saw it.
“A flame ram here!? Is this the kind of people we are fighting?” Just the fact that somebody put it down in the middle of a supply camp and people actually built it haha.
Hah, but yeah we had some guy from WSR griefing before the switchover last week who was just buying flame rams constantly and placing them all over the place, wasting supplies :P
(edited by Garrus.5089)
Well I think GH had “spikes” to put it, as my guild leader was discussing with us. There tends to be moderate resistance from GH when we hit a few nerves but the spikes in player turnout have become somewhat predictable.
When you have an enemy as in your face as GH is in the WSR borderland, you do begin to notice when people have stopped for the night or for dinner, life in general.
What this doesn’t answer the question of, is who the hell puts flame rams down in GH to kill the Guild Claiming NPC? :P
I’ve sorta slowed on WvW, not bothering to upgrade outside main bases in WSR because they just get lost overnight at some ridiculous time like 6am after me and the night shift had recaptured the borderlands around 2-3am.
Cannot wait for this tier change. I’d been considering, like 90% sure, I was gonna just change servers before the guesting came in. Somewhere like Underworld or something of higher population but I’ve sorta found my place in WvW which really inspires me to play a bit more for WSR and stay.
New commanders, new tactics, I’ve found my place with new tactics I never used before and it feels good to feel I’m really making a difference, victory or defeat.
All I can say is that my opinion has now changed, win or lose, don’t take it lying down.
