Same issue here. I was fine yesterday afternoon, but tonight I keep getting the same errors. I’ve tried several times, with no success. Apparently the game is currently unavailable to some of us.
Pretty sad.
Yeah, so I’m aware of that “fix”. Pretty ancient news that didn’t do anything for 1920×1200 resolutions. Thus the forum post.
Thanks, anyway.
I know this is a stupid question, because I think I know the answer, but, did Field of View ever get fixed? I’m still stymied that I quit a game because the devs can’t add a simple FOV slider.
Any info would be appreciated.
FOV (Field of View) Changes Beta Test - Feedback Thread

Certainly an improvement, but without a change to the horizontal FOV it’s still not there for me. I have a 1920 × 1200 display, so the FOV and camera perspective are just unnatural. Without adjusting both vertical and horizontal FOV I’m not surprised. The view now feels closed in on the sides.
I also noticed that my character is now even further forward toward the center of the screen. That’s to be expected, though, if the vertical FOV is adjusted, and the zoom stays the same.
We really an FOV slider, the ability to zoom the camera further out, and a change to the camera perspective in relation to the character. Sadly, this fix won’t bring me back.
Awesome news. I had pretty much given up on getting a fix and had resigned myself to moving on, so you made my day, Colin.
Nope, there’s no way to increase the FOV, and Anet will not be providing a fix. Jon Peters responded to this last week and presented a number of reasons why, none of which made sense to most of us. If you search some of the other forums you’ll find many posts related to the FOV issue. It’s been a complaint since at least BWE2.
It’s a strange position to take considering the number of people who have requested an FOV fix. Technically I would have expected this to be one of the easier fixes to address in a modern game, and I’m completely at a loss to understand Anet’s explanation.
I’m here in forums looking for an FOV update, because I’m hardly in game any more due to the FOV. It’s just not an enjoyable experience with the current FOV.
It could be. I’ve enjoyed playing to level 40, but without an FOV slider I find myself logging in less and less. I simply can’t enjoy the game at 1900 × 1200 on a 24" LCD with the current FOV. It’s sad, since there’s a fix I could install right now that would fix the issue, but I could be banned.
If you can play with the current camera issues, then it’s definitely worth the $60.
Having just read the locked response from Jon Peters I am extremely disappointed and will most likely stop playing GW2 unless Anet’s position on the issue changes.
Frankly, the response confims my fears. The lack of an official response throughout the BWE’s and release had me worried that there are limitations in the GW2 engine preventing an FOV fix. While I can’t prove it, the official response just doesn’t make any sense and leads me to believe that FOV simply can’t be fixed.
The idea that increasing FOV would negatively impact positional awareness is exactly the opposite of what my experience has been. I’m having trouble with positional awareness because the FOV is too small. I can not take in everything going on in group and event settings.
Maybe zooming the camera out further would help. But there is no relief in sight on that horizon, either. The camera zoom is way too tight on my character and the world in general. The idea that increasing FOV or camera zoom would affect the artwork is ridiculous. The whole world of GW2 would be far more enjoyable if I could see more of it.
I’ve spent money on gems and planned on buying more. There’s no way I’ll spend another dime until this is addressed. All due to an issue that has been a staple feature in games for a long time, and shouldn’t be a debate at all. Anet’s call, I guess. Wow.
Please fix the forum search. It’s very annoying that it only works a percentage of the time. Especially when you’re trying to find out if your story quest is bugged.
Respectfully, X, I didn’t ask for anyone’s opinion. The forum is full of them. I deliberately wanted to avoid restarting a debate. I’ve been posting in public forums since they were “bulletin boards”, so I’m well aware of how human beings operate when they have anonymity.
But, you are right, it’s a public place. However, that doesn’t give anyone the right to attack others. Unhelpful replies, are, well, unhelpful. Period.
On to your point: It is an issue in MMO’s. The peripheral view on a PC monitor with an FOV of 60 just isn’t sufficient, particularly in a group setting. Aion had the ability to change the FOV. You don’t put in an FOV setting if it has no bearing on game play. Frankly, I’m tired of the FPS argument. Please Google FOV and research the fact that some people get headaches from a low FOV.
Potentially, some of my issues could be addressed if the camera could zoom out further, as well. I think the combo of a small FOV and limited camera distance are both contributing to the issue. In raids when I tanked I needed to see everything going on and played at max camera distance. I’m having trouble processing everything going on in group events, because the peripheral view is limited. And I’ve moved my monitor as far back on my desk as it will go.
That’s a fact, and not something debating will change. Unless you can change my eyesight to 60 FOV vision via debate.
Apologies, all. This is exactly what I didn’t want to happen. And it’s why my post count on the forums is so low.
Standard FOV on a widescreen PC monitor should be 90. I’m quit familiar with stretching and fishbowl affects when you go higher than 90 on a PC. FYI, that’s all been posted in the forums.. Search and ye shall find.
I wasn’t posting to have a debate about the issue. It’s been well documented since BWE1, and it’s a well documented issue for PC games.
What my post was about is the fact that the Devs have never responded to the issue. That was the only question in my post.
I just don’t understand reading comprehension today. I asked a simple yes or no question and you respond with an attack. Just not helpful.
I’m really struggling with the FOV on a 24" monitor. Many games have FOV issues, but in games like BioShock and Aion at least I could tweak the FOV so it looked normal at 1900 × 1200. Human eyesight has a very specific way of working, and the current FOV on a 24" monitor just doesn’t work.
Devs, have you every officially responded to this concern? I played both BWE1 and BWE2 and I never found an official response to FOV issues. I still haven’t.
Please tell me this will be addressed.
