I just bought 4000 gems yesterday. I used some, but now I have none. They had better come back soon.
I managed to finish my daily events in Tangled Depths and then quit. I got DC’ed so many times that it was ridiculous.
So much for trying to play tonight.
I have been having the same problem and it continues after the most recent patch. I hope that they fix this soon.
Same problem here. The client tries to start the download and I get this message.
I hope that they fix it soon.
I just got the same error message while whispering with a guild member.
I am a casual player and I generally play PvE exclusively. I will go into WvW and EotM once in a while and I haven’t done any PvP.
I went into this beta knowing that I would have limited chances to try things out. Plus I don’t play enough to have tons of experience talking about DPS, etc. I did have enough of a plan that I got to play with the Revenant as it came equipped. I also went with a full Zerker set up and a Dire Armor/Rampagers weapon build for some condi. I played with all three weapon sets. I did very little in the way of testing the traits because time was a issue for me.
With the full Celestial set and using the hammer, I had some fun running around in group events. I was able to do enough damage that it was satisfying in groups in most levels. But when I played solo, which I often do, it took a long time to kill anything (Yes, I know that involves DPS). That got frustrating after a while, and even changing Legends wasn’t a big help.
With the full Zerker build, I was more effective with all weapons. While I enjoyed using the hammer, I felt the the best damage was with the Mace/Axe combo. I has some issues staying alive when soloing, but it mostly required that I be careful. Being able to switch Legends in combat and using the second heal definitely helped. I found that using the staff wasn’t a good option. Also channeling Ventari, while interesting, didn’t do as much as I had hoped for healing and condition removal. Again, since I was doing a lot of solo play, this set up didn’t do enough for me. In groups it was much more useful.
Lastly I tried the Dire Armor/Rampager Weapons build. I chose Rampagers to try to build up my precision and my chance to crit. When I used this with a mace/axe, I found that it was pretty effective. Obviously, it wasn’t going to give me the fastest kills, but I was able to go toe-to-toe in Straits of Devastation with individual monsters and even small groups. It might take a while to kill them, but at least they didn’t down me in the process. I actually wished I had more time to play this build because I was enjoying combat in the tougher zones.
Overall, I found that in all builds I had to spam skills as fast as possible. I felt that in a Condi build, the weapons had a limited amount of condi damage and that there weren’t enough condi options on them. Having more bleeding, daze or something similar, instead of being mostly torment, would have been good. On the Zerker build, I still wanted to do more damage. The idea was to kill them before they killed me. Too often I had to back out and heal up against the lowest level monsters.
If I had had more time, I would have build a Cleric’s set or something similar to test out the Ventari Legend. As it was, I didn’t find that Legend useful for my normal play style. I also would have liked to spend more time playing with the trait lines, but this wasn’t a weekend where I had the time to do that.
I am looking forward to the next Beta and I will probably bring back my Revenant just so I can do some of the things I missed doing this weekend.
After doing the second and third phases of the beta there are just a couple of things I want to add.
First of all, I LOVE gliding. Building the experience to actually use the Mastery was a pain. I felt that some of the events took way too long and didn’t pay off with enough experience to make it worth it. But the events were pretty well thought out, just long in terms of the time it takes to complete them. I never got enough experience to get a second Mastery level opened up, but some of that was a function of me just wanting to explore.
The other thing that I noticed that was there were no merchants. I wasn’t able to sell off any inventory. So I ended up destroying stuff just to make room. I did have to laugh at getting a Black Lion Chest and an unidentified dye. Nice to get them, but now way to use them. LOL
Both of those things are really just a function of being in a beta. In real life, I will be investing plenty of time in the game to build experience. And I’m sure that there will be some sorts of merchants. So as far as those being complaints, they are pretty much irrelevant in these circumstances.
In the last two 2-hour phases, I only had one bugged event. When we were doing the event to plant the wyvern eggs, the event quit counted eggs planted. So the event just kept going on with no ending. Other than that things went smoothly.
I continued using my Guardian for the entire beta. I changed by second weapon set during the second phase, but never changed traits. The build held up well. I didn’t die as often as I expected to. I did plenty of damage and played more melee that I usually do. I don’t think that there was anything special that was done to make the guardian more powerful. It was all just a function of the build that was set up.
Thanks Anet. It was fun. Now let’s do it again.
The opening to the Beta worked out pretty well. I can see some potential issues when or if you have to solo it. But I got through without any problems because there was a pretty good sized group working on it. The opening fits with the story of the Silverwastes/LS and feels like it fits with how things have worked up until now.
Once you are in Verdant Blink, things change. I had no real problems getting through the opening story. I played a Guardian because I am comfortable playing that profession with both ranged and melee skills. In some ways, the opening story and some of the game play felt like my Guardian was more powerful than I am used to. I had little problem staying alive and had enough power to get through the modrem without too much effort.
After getting out into the open world, things got a bit different. First of all, the map is gorgeous, but large and definitely multi-layered. Figuring out how to get to places got to be a pain. I realize that most of this is because it will be a totally new map and I have to learn it. But in a two hour playing period, I couldn’t get as much done as I would have liked.
I did get DCed once. I got the message that my client was DCed from the login server. I was able to get right back in, so it was more of an irritant than anything else. I did end up back at the waypoint however, so I had to walk back to where I had been working on an event.
The way to use the Mastery system is still not totally clear. I got two Mastery points pretty quickly. So then I had to click on the XP bar (nice pop up told me that). Then I picked which Mastery line I wanted to work on (Gliding, in my case). Then I had to grind to get the XP bar full. I actually didn’t not get it full in the first two hour period, so I’m hoping to continue to work on it in the next one. Gliding would definitely been a HUGE help in moving to the different levels. In some cases I could never find the way to walk down to some areas. Also, it would be nice to use the mushrooms, but that is another Mastery and another grind to get it started. None of that should be a big problem when you are playing for real. When you have a limited time to play the map, it feels like you will never get the Masteries learned. That is just the difference between playing in the beta vs. playing to build up an ongoing character.
I did find that some of the skills didn’t seem to work well or lagged. Since these were normal Guardian weapon skills, it was a bit frustrating.
I did not change weapons, skills or traits from what was set up. Those actually worked pretty well. I will probably change those in the next phase of the beta, just to see how some of the builds that I am used to will work. It is nice that I had a set of weapons so that I can change from a staff to a scepter or something else. I expect to keep using the GS as my melee weapon though.
So far, I am both impressed and frustrated. The maps are beautiful, the new monsters are interesting, and the events make some sense to me. I am frustrated just because there is so much to learn and so little to time to learn it.
Thanks Anet. I hope that you are getting some useful info out of this beta. I’ll add to this later.
It does sound like people will be doing several types of professions. So that should be good.
Since my first character in GW and GW2 was a ranger, I really had thought about doing that for the beta. But I have been playing my necro, guardian and mesmer more often. So I’ll probably pick one of those because I am familiar with them right now.
But then I also thought about doing an engineer.
I guess I’ll figure it out tomorrow when I log in and start building.
Since I got my email about the Beta, I have been debating which profession to use. I used the Revenant in the Stress Test, but I will be using one that I am more familiar with using. I just haven’t decided which one yet.
So which profession are you going to use? And if you have a specific reason, I would like to know that too.
Right now I am leaning toward a necro, a guardian or a mesmer. The necro and the guardian can be pretty tough, so they should be able to survive a bit better. The mesmer can be pretty effective depending on the build. I tend to lean toward a shatter build.
I considered trying a thief, but I haven’t played it enough lately to feel comfortable with it.
OK, I’ll add my two-bits.
First of all, I did have to remember that it was Beta Stress Test and not a content release. Once I got past that, it went well.
Obviously there were a lot of Revenants in this test. Most people wanted to try out the new profession. So it’s hard to tell what a good group make up might be for some of the fights.
I never had an issue with lag or disconnects. I played under a variety of conditions in both parts of the test. I was in parties, playing solo, in TS and messing with the different skills.
The area was beautiful, but small. As has been mentioned, the content could be completed pretty quickly. The it was all rinse and repeat, so you had plenty of chances to try out different things. One thing that I did was replace the hammer that I started with when I had a Berzerker hammer drop. It didn’t seem to make a big difference in what I was doing, but I would definitely like a chance to try that out in the future.
Since this was a beta and I never watched the previews, it took a bit to figure out the Mastery system. I managed to get Glide working in the first session. After hearing some Guild discussions, I was able to get the Mushrooms working in the second session. I will say that the Mastery system isn’t intuitive, but you can figure it out in time.
The Wyvern fight was easy once the Revenants figured out their skills to use. The first fight I was in took a long time to finish. By the second time, people had figured out how to keep him down and the fight went much quicker. It will be interesting to see if the other professions will have skills to yank the wyvern down. Otherwise, it might be a longer fight if you don’t have several Revs there to do it.
After the beta was over, I realized that I hadn’t taken the time to check out the traits for the Rev. Mine worked fine, but I meant to look and see what options there were.
Overall, I enjoyed being part of this test. I’m looking forward to any future test just to see the changes and more of the world (hopefully).
OK. Problem solved. It turned out that “Go for the Gold” got marked to be watched. Once I turned it off, my Dailies reappeared.
Nope, not showing on the Watch List. What I do notice is that I have the Silverwastes “Go for the Gold” showing on my screen where I would expect the Dailies. And “Go for the Gold” doesn’t show on my watch list.
It’s not an issue of completing them. I know that they disappear once I finish enough. They just don’t appear at all. I have not completed my monthly. And again today, my dailies never showed up even though they do show on the Achievement panel of my Hero Screen.
Since the last patch the display on my screen of the Daily or Monthlies that I need to do has disappeared. The achievements are still there and I do get credit when I do them. I just don’t get the update in the upper right corner of my screen.
This does not seem to be happening with any other updates. I see displays for the “World Tournament Series”. “The Silverwastes” and the normal event listings.
I have looked through the Options menus and can’t find anything that turn this display on or off. Is there some way to get it back?
I logged out and came back in. I did it for a second time and managed to get through the whole mission.
I don’t know what the glitch was the first time, but this time it worked.
I am having similar problems. I got the boss halfway down and it went back into the mode to disable his shield. When I tried, I was detected. I moved off to fight and was put back into stealth. From there on, I couldn’t interact with anything.
Doh!!! It would have helped if I had read the description in the achievement.
I made the recipe for the feast of Truffle Steak Dinner and it finished off the achievement. Thanks for the help.
I had the same thing happen yesterday. I made the recipe in the Mystic Forge. I had my level 80 Ele who is a level 400 chef read the recipe. I got no credit under the Fine Dining achievement.
I have the same question. Is this bugged? Has anyone else managed to get the achievement in the past couple of days?
It’s still not working. Star is over Fenris’ head and he’ll talk to you, but nothing is moving.
I can add that I made 2 keys and did not get the achievement. I have a guildmate in my family who made a key while I was watching. She didn’t get it either.
