Dungeon Weapon Help

How is the longbow’s damage output if you don’t have any condition damage? I’m just curious because I was previously in full Rabid gear w/ longbow, then switched to power hammer/rifle build. I have to agree the longbow is amazing, but i’m not sure if its useful without the Condition damage to back it up. That being said, It does come down to who is in your party. You don’t want to be stacking fire fields :P

Anywho! That’s just my input about the longbow. I do love the weapon, don’t get me wrong. Taking the longbow in a power based build is fine. Assuming you don’t have fire fields already. Also the blind/snare is amazing on that thing <3

Now, you have a lot of power in that build. Berserker’s and Knight if IIRC. So you probably want for your next weapon a power based weapon.

That being said, hammer is an AMAZING PvE weapon, the CC on that guy is fantastic. And in my opinion, utility and CC is paramount in Guildwars 2 Dungeon crawling. The damage is pretty solid too. I’m personally hitting for ~2000 -~3000 crit auto attacks with full raid buffs (mayb 10-13 stacks of might). The AoE stun at rank 3 hits for 4k to all targets. Another good alternative is the rifle. Assuming you don’t mind being completely ranged, it does give some hefty damage output. 8k volleys, 8k bursts. Also the bleed is nice, not only for the damage but the damage amplification if you trait for precision. The knockback is solid too. Amazing Single target boss damage.

(I maybe be biased towards those two weapons :P Love em’)

If you want to be more support-y, Anything/warhorn is in a class of its own. The vigor buff its sooooo goood. Also, iirc the warhorn trait is realllly goood too.

I’m using a warrior shout build with no healing gear what so ever. My shouts heal for around 1k @ 80 (but it depends on the down scaling) and they have saved my life more times then I can recall. IIRC you need a lot of healing to make any sort of significant difference. Also I found banners are more of a pain in dungeons when compared to shouts. Banners may heal more over a span of time, but the shouts bring a little more utility to a fight. Which I think, especially in these dungeons, is much much more important.

Offensive Tactics Warrior Spec

Hello fellow warriors!

Just a couple quick questions. At the moment I’m using a 10/30/0/30/0 build (Precision/tactics) build focusing on condition damage and toughness (Rabid gear). Utilizing shouts for healing and Precision for quick adrenaline gains (on crit) for the longbow burst. In short, its a offensively driven, slightly supportive build geared for PvE dungeons. I have had a lot of success with this build, but i’d imagine it can be improved.

Does anyone else run a build like this? Any suggestions? Do you think I should get some healing gear in there for the shouts? Not looking for negative feedback :P. Just ideas.

Edit: My secondary weapon set is Sword/Axe or Sword/Shield depending on the situation

The way my guild and I did it was to pull them down the pathway, (where those archers spwn) picking off one at a time until only Leurent was left. Its Cheesy, but it works. They do hit like trucks. Stability helps a lot. Hope that helps. Other then that we just farm the other two pathways ;P

Original Post, How are you speced? Do you have any toughness or vitality? What are your utility skills? Do you have any condition removal? Vigor? Stability? Heals?

You need these things in dungeons… Sometimes one person doing a little bit of everything! Nobody can build glass cannon in this game. Its not WoW. It works differently. Everyone can tank (Not for long tho :P ) and everyone can heal. Capitalize on that. Guardian “walls”, snares, knockbacks, knockdowns, stuns, revives. These all make dungeons much easier and much more fun. Except thosekittenvolatile blossoms…. Nothing can make those fun……

( I have finished 2 full exploratory modes, Not bragging, just saying its not impossible)

I’m pretty sure its done for a balance issue, It would be unfair to give ele’s weapon swaps in PvP for instance. 20 skills vs 10 is a little skewed in the ele’s favor

You guys have such a huge range of spells anyway. Hehe Stance switch more.

Frankly, I like the grinding aspect. Its what keep me playing. It gives me a goal and it makes me log in every day. But doing the same dungeon over and over and over is kind of … redundant. I think universal tokens would be great for dungeon vendors. This way players still get that “goal grind” effect and not get frustrated. This would also allow you to run your favorite dungeons while grinding gear for another. (seeing as some dungeons don’t supply the gear stats you may want) This goes for both rare and exotic armor and weapons

I have a lvl 80 warrior, who I thought was the best melee character in the world. Rocking the Greatsword, 8-9k hundred blades, I was ready for anything….Until my guild decided to run Sorrow’s embrace, and I died at least 2 times every fight and got downed several more. Now I have played MMO’s a lot, but you can only dodge attacks soo much Anywho, I know how you feel, So I made some changes.

Your friend is correct, ranged play is the safest alternative, However its not necessary. What I have done is switch to a condition based spec, My armor is focused on toughness/ condition damage, and crit, and my spec runs down the vitality tree (tactics). My main weapon is a sword/axe, and a longbow for support. My utilities are banners and shouts, giving a range of buffs, from stability, might, fury, condition removal, and vital/toughness

This allows me to take damage, and dish it out, using a hit-and-run kind if tactic. If you wish to stay in the for long haul, its going to be difficult. Mobs hit just to hard to not take some form of defensive stat. You need toughness or vitality if you wish to be melee. (That doesn’t mean you need to be a tank, the extra stats will allow you to soak up a few more hits until you can get to a safer location.)

Also, Do you raid with friends? Making sure everyone in your group doesn’t simply spec for damage, but has utility for others as well helps a lot. It makes Dungeons for melee much easier. Taking self-heals is paramount and Vigor is also a fantastic buff. Being Tactics, I love shouts. Not only do they buff my team, but they heal them as well. I often run warhorn as well, giving vigor when I can.

Some people may not like how difficult GW2 dungeons can be, however its redefining how we need to approach dungeon play. You can’t just have one person DPS, and another Heal, and another Tank. It must be spread across the playing field. Yes.. that means your thief may need to heal :P (assuming it can, haven’t played a high level thief)

Here is a quick list of things that may help, if you don’t wanna read all that.

As melee:
1) Constantly move / hit and run tactics
2) Try and get a vigor buff from someone
3) Defensive stats go a long way
4) Take one or two defensive utilities and at least two condition removal utilities (widely depends on the dungeon or boss at hand)
5) Heals, heals, heals. Every little bit counts. I don’t have a single point in healing power, but I still carry them. (also have a healing set, but I only use it in dire situations)
6) CC, good old crowd control. Most bosses in GW2 can be stunned, snared, immobilized and the like. Make use of it. You may not get to use the exact weapons you want, but unfortunately that’s how GW2 is structured.
7) Know your mobs! Lots of mobs act differently depending on how far you are from them. For example, those pesky wurms in twilight arbor wont hit you with their ranged attack (WHICH HURTS) if you are in melee (they will ground slam but its easy to dodge)

8) Have fun, the game is hard. But its very rewarding! Once you get the hang of it, and you don’t spend all your time with your face in the dirt like I did, the these dungeons are beautiful. Props to the artists! This game is gorgeous. Also, the encounters will be a lot more fun. :P
