PIP System + what went wrong from the start

Basically the Pip System itself and divisions is fine – it is a good idea.
(not the way it is implemented rather the idea of having those)

How it could have worked out in a better way:

- Reset MMR for everyone BEFORE start of Season 1 (….)
- Show Personal MMR, Team MMRs and MMR gain/loss
(fixed on character, NOT ON ACCOUNT!)
- Couple PIP gain with MMR gain

- Disable MMR Loss for Amber
(that means Amber Player MMR will only increase on wins)

- Every other divsion should be able to loose Tiers and even Division but for Emerald
(so you could Fall down from Legend to Emerald, yes..!)

- Show a Ladder / Ranked Ladder for PVP !!
(for all Divisions and Overall)

- Having all builds/classes viable and balanced
(as i.e. let ppl play a RANGER and dont force them into DRUID, like wtf..)

- Making real Balance Patches that don’t introduce “new things” and “metas”
but rather BALANCE the PVP Stuff

Now why did this NOT happen?

-> i can only guess that population was so declining (overall) that the motivation
was to keep the game “alive”

by luring more PVE Players into PVP
by binding them playing the game with the WINGS Achieve
by raising popularity/population with esports to get more players/more revenue

and to get experience for a developing a new game…

this is the question i ask myself every time i go into ranked matches. the game has become so passive with all the condi spamming going around that it has become tiresome. where is the skill in the game anymore? has anyone else realized that the condi traits and skills have lower CD’s than dmg traits and skills? its just unreal to think that this game will ever have balance. also solo q, why is it that you are put against guild and pre-made teams. i mean you q up solo and put against a group rather than a random 5 ppl? how does that work for anyone? sure in some cases that the group is bad and can easily be defeated, but how often does that really happen? also the same maps for almost four years now, why? these are just some of the reason why i ask if the wings are worth the effort. if anet could provide so was to have group diversity in solo q i think that would help a lot. being placed on a team where 1 class makes up more than 50% of your team is a bit stupid. i know a dev wont respond at all to this.

No they are not worth the effort in case of getting them is an effort
and not a “side-effect” of playing the game (pvp) and having fun with it.

that’s a major issue as well, u DONT really get good quality games in legendary…

actually it is the least competitive part because the prestige should show the top dunno 300 ? not just 5 (because who knows why there is no ranked ladder ;-((

climbing to legend is more “competitive” than being in legend itself

and that is the most toxic thing for legend division as it
further influences matchmaking in a bad way

Get laurels, sell the mats, then buy what you need, since you get random mats there. Also you gain gold in winning matches, sell mats when you salvage the chests that you get. Easy. Sell Exotics.

Not to mention you also get t6 Mats randomly from the pvp chests you get.

Yeah and that’s all “PVE stuff” ;-))

The point is you get them in pvp, noone is forcing you to pve for it.

I’m not saying u dont have to PVP to get them….. u get them partially by getting “PVEy-achieves” (like the wins on different classes (grindy stuff, not really skill) while pvping AND with crafting mats

Like u dont get the wings in your mailbox for hitting Prestige 15 in one season
or other stuff (hot streak of 10 in diamond , etc. etc.)

So underneath the reward track itself is a PVE thing the way it is currently designed.

PS: Pls stop derailing the thread.

So.. drop it yourself and don’t try to cut me off that way,

That’s what happens when you have a PvE reward in PvP.

Anyone could have seen this coming from a mile away when The Ascension was announced.

Actually it is a PVP reward.

The problem is there is no gate for it so that it should be a pvp exclusive option.

Like map completion in PvE. There should have been a gate of some sort so we could filter people who has no idea of how pvp works.

As a PVPer (only PVP) i have 300g , no t6 mats … and so i have everything for those super wings but cant afford the crafting mats or be assed into farming those or use rl money

imho it is therefor a PVE reward partially gained by PVPing….

exactly, and it is not fun.

it has not been in s1, s2 and it is not now in s3
(for me it was exactly this struggle and i refuse to group up and stuff ^^)

it is a struggle – no class feels complete…
it is like each and every class is LACKING – it is not smooth anymore at all

now one can carry more or less with whichever class, swap, get groups going and all that.. play a lot of games yadda yadda… to get ranks whatever

however i don’t want to do that – what i want to do is play i.e.
a gs power nec and have fun with it – but i can’t
(not viable, matchmaking, mmr, etc. etc.)

i don’t have a problem with loosing when playing vs players that outskill me.
what i have a major problem with is loosing when i outskill the enemy but it’s like 3vs7 because of the ppl grouped together in a team.

for me the game has the best mmorpg pvp mechanics so far of all games on market
(past to present)

unfortunatelly the quality declined for me since the time that ranked ladder froze
(and then disappeared)

and population / qtimes is a big issue.

basically starting tuesday it is overwatch for me and gw2 will be shelved.
the fun time spent in open beta is what gaming should be about. ;-)

s1 matches were too frustrating, fighting against the odds you were given to win… hopefully its closer to s2 than s1

Idk what you are grasping at.. your odds of winning were the 50/50 in season 1 Whereas in season 2, depending on your MMR you wither had 50/50 change to win a 85% chance to lose or a 85% chance to win. So, you are misrepresenting S1, the only problem in S1 was your teammates.

in S1 i would be qd with the most terrible players i ever met cuz of high mmr
(and still made lege solo q)

in S2 my ruined MMR from S1 would be further ruined

so in regards of matchmaking it was equally totally terrible for me in both seasons…

Any chance we can get a bit more info on the match making logic like was provided prior to season 2?

Not divulging this info is going to create even more speculation. At least last season we had something to point uninformed folks to who questioned what they were experiencing.

Basically in S1 you could q with amber being a diamond player and fight amber ppl to farm urself to legendary (or/and also abuse stronghold)

in S2 u would get a loose streak (i.e. trying for the achieve for wings – or when missing that the amber player would be treated as a diamond from previous example) and ruin ur MMR (and mb the ambers) and thus be stuck in MMR Hell (on Higher Tiers) in Solo Q

Dunno what to take about the combination of that … I guess it will be worse if it is a mix of the bad stuff of S1/S2 or great if it combines the good things of S1/S2 without adding side effects that are even worse for matchmaking.

Hi,

In S1 class stacking (several of same class in 1 Team) was so so,
in S2 way too terrible (u would usually get 2-3 of the same class in 1 team)

In Proleague class stacking is not allowed anymore afaik,
is it the same for matchmaking in S3 (ranked) now? (which would be good ..

i think the MMR Probs could be fixed quite easy,
also make MMR visible

Player Feedback for Anet:

more ranked maps and game modes:
- Capture the Flag (with no port/speed abuse of flag carrier)
- More Maps with more jumping elements like in Kyhlo
- Nodes that move around on map
- King of the Hill ( like 4 groups of 5 playing for the Hill)
- …. (your ideas)

- Remove Skyhammer, it is CR&P! Use the Dev. Time for something cool
like fixing MMR

i started playing hots. it’s a lot of fun, it’s team based like guild wars, very good devs that usually get balance right quickly, new updates every 3-4 weeks with great content, many maps that are good, f2p.

i looked up a bunch of games (haven’t looked for 2+ years what is happening,
so here is a short list of games, that imho just dont cut it.

- skyforge
- world of warcraft
- echo of souls
- blade and soul
- asta
- wildstar

I don’t find anything better than GW2,
and atm I h8 gw2 because of Arenat shafting pvp for 1.5years now

(first no working ranked list/ladder for half a year or longer,
then HoT S1, and now S2)

Any suggestions?

Legend Queue Times

Matchmaking doesn’t count pips past the end of legendary, so prestige count won’t affect queue times.

It was said already, but with an accurate or prestigious ladder you get people on each extreme with long queue times as the population to pull from is smaller. Queue times in unranked are never this bad because we expand the mmr search range quite far over time. We could do the equivalent expansion of the ladder search range, but there will be just as many (if not more) people then complaining about all the legendary players in their ruby matches.

To summarize the issues people have brought up:
An accurate ladder rewards skill at the cost of queue time.
Reducing queue time would require frustrating players with imbalanced matches (either by skill, or just visual ladder badge).
Making the ladder more about grind gets more players to legendary, but there is no prestige.

What would make legendary players happy to keep playing the game? Is it just quicker queue times? What if you could do other things while waiting? What if there was something other than leagues all together like unranked arena that legendary players could go to until more players make it to legendary?

as I am not being paid for that (rather I payed for the game ;-))

Thing is…. one loosing streak (loosing 3+ games in a row) will “adjust” your mmr in such a way, that you are no longer considered worthy of playing with those that BEFORE that loosing streak were considered your same level.

Instead you get struck down and have to win your way up again… with a winning streak of 3+.

Thing is… thats the moment you have to start carrying… and carrying hard… and one loss will set you back to start.

Dunno about that – i tried a DH in ruby T1 for an achieve and noticed the class sucks now.

I got grouped with a lot of primordials and same about the enemy team.
So i lost 8 games.

Switched back to main and steamrolled to ruby T5 right away.
(where i am struggling now because of huge strategic misplays of team,
not because of matchmaking – ppl can actually a little play on ruby atm)

Everyone’s preferred win rate is 100%.

However, because achieving that is practically impossible, I believe that most people’s preference for a gameplay experience would be to have close matches regardless of the win/loss outcome.

The current system results in massive lop-sided wins/losses, which is just awful.

I disagree – real pvp players yes.
But that is not “most players” – it is a minority.

Wannabe pvp players just want to roflstomp to legend and cry for nerfs, etc.
They fixate not on improving themselves/the game, but on “robbing” others.

Simply put:
Most players just want to gank and make others feel bad.

About the upcoming Cheaters and Botters

So ,

With the screw up in S1 Anet made a ton of ppl believe,
that they are actually “elite” pvp players and should have a legit winrate of 80% and be super legendary.

However with changing the system to what it is now
it is a rough wake up for a lot of players.

So now that Anet in their eyes is so out of their mind and “ruined” leagues and matchmaking, how long for the botters and cheaters to arise
(hahha noobs yolo players, ..) ?

I have been noticing already fishy stuff!

Which of course means, Anet kinda ruined it , lol

Think about divisons as leagues:

So in S3
leges should start with ruby.
diamonds with saph
ruby with emerald
rest in amber

And it would be enjoyable for all and ppl would play sooner there
where they need to improve to progress

1) A lot of ppl got inflated Ranks because MMR would group bad/mediocre players (i assume u r one and were not on the receiving end) with great players.

So great players never got “good” matches and had to carry like crazy just to get legend.

2) The current matchmaking is actually a ladder:
It is not u being placed on low MMR and loosing because of that.
It is first getting roflstomped by great players who are playing through the divison
and/or actually being simply a bad player.

Now ppl of almost same MMR getting grouped is a good thing.
And playing against any other group in the same division is a good thing
→ why is the 2nd a good thing? → BECAUSE IT IS THE SAME DIVISION

Eventually same MMRs in each divison will evolve and u get the 50% wall again,
but this time it will be accurate.

So yeah, the system atm is fair and less carebear.
