Also, thank you for refraining from giving any sort of legitimate suggestions, as those are also unnecessary.

Thank you again for insulting the devs while asking for their attention and consideration of the effort you didn’t make.

So I’m an american player, but…

I’ve noticed that when I change my computer to Chinese (I have it for simplified, as that’s what I learned) I can indeed type chinese characters. My only issue is about half of all characters are only about 1/3 width, and therefore don’t show almost any of the character.

For traditional characters, I imagine the exact same problem, though I haven’t tried trying in traditional at all.

I think the support for the language is there, its just being “squished” in some form.

Vash the Stampede, from one of the more quality anime, Trigun.

Norn seemed to have the best hair and the extra height though its a tad too stocky. Human didn’t have good enough hair and if I really wanted to be “true” to character, sylvari just didn’t have good enough skin tones or hair.

Depending on what the newer legendaries will look like, I might end up making Bolt, and especially if Elementalists get sword with their specialization, I’d make a Robin (My Unit) from Fire Emblem: Awakening (or from where I know Robin, Smash 4). Levin sword, Magic tomes with Sw/F, would be legit.

What is Healing Power?

I can already guarantee this won’t be the best Staff-P/P build out there, but it’s very similar to what i run myself. The best part about this build is that you can facetank with it because literally everything you do heals. Attacking heals, critting heals (which you do 100% of the time with Fury), evading heals, spending initiative heals, lifesteal heals, etc. And because you’re critting 100% of the time, you’re doing double damage 100% of the time, self-buffed. If it’s really too much healing you can always swap Invigorating Precision with No Quarter for your Fury upkeep and you’ll be golden.

Can we buff Spirit Weapons :D

in Guardian

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

So after thinking for a bit, here’s what I’d want from Spirit Weapons:

  • They no longer die after their time limit is up. Between their casttime, recharge, and command skills, they act far closer to Necrominions than Gyros. This is the most impactful change while turning the least knobs.
  • Sword has no changes
  • Hammer auto-attack Stuns for 1s instead of Knockback. Command cooldown adjusted to 30s from new lifespan.
  • Shield swaps auto-attack and Command skills. It will now bounce around granting Aegis to allies and Weakness to enemies. Command will be a ground targeted deployment of its absorption shield and retains its Stun Breaker. Shield Command now at 20s recharge because of new lifespan.
  • Bow now fires a piercing attack at the targeted enemy (damage equal to Shield). Any allies that are hit are cleansed. Bow Command at 30s recharge due to new lifespan.
  • Expeditious Spirit keeps its Spirit Weapon cooldown reduction and burn on attack, but loses its Command skill recharge reduction. Instead, Spirit Weapons drop a Fire Field (4s, 180u radius) that can cause burning (2s) when crossing the boundary.

There were some things I didn’t take into account, but for what I did look into, these are the mechanical changes I’d like to see from Spirit Weapons as they currently stand. I can already imagine the number of builds that could come out of these changes, and none of them should get out of hand.

Create a Skill: Guardian Edition

Ghotistyx.6942

I love doing things like this.

I’ll give ya 3:

I’d really like to see a Symbol for every swap, so Symbols for Sword and Scepter.

Sword #3: Symbol of Defense
Skill description: Place a Symbol at your position while throwing projectiles.
Cast time: 1/2 – 3/4s
Recharge: 15-20s
Visual effect(s): ’Tis merely a symbol.
Numbers: Aegis 1sec, Symbol duration 4sec, Projectile Range 600.
(sorry, no projectile finisher here. Damage is 1.25 current ZD, 50% from Projectiles, 75% from symbol. Admittedly, the projectiles kinda overload the skill, but I tried to keep what others liked from the current ZD).

Scepter: Symbol of Smiting
Skill description: Place a Symbol of Smiting at target location granting Fury to allies.
Cast time: 1/4s
Recharge: 6s
Visual effect(s): ’Tis but a symbol (its already got a full anim, just resize)
Numbers: Its Smite, but 20% less damage, normal Symbol sized, lasts 3s and applies Fury for 1s each tick.
(I feel the -20% damage is justified, considering it now behaves as a symbol, and it makes math easy if you drop the 15hits to 12, and divide the damage over 4 ticks (placement and 1 per second). Also, with +100% boon duration, Fury should last effectively indefinitely as long as you keep placing the Symbol, Similar in concept to GS1 Might stacking. There while you auto, gone if you stop).

zomg a Virtue?

Virtue of Patience – Recharge 30s
Passive: +1% damage dealt, -1% damage taken for each recharging virtue
Active: 3s Chill, Range 600.

Inspired Virtue boon – swiftness 5sec

(and then, we re-work traits to take advantage of all the delicious chill we can now dish out, like vuln on chill, or chill on burn, torment on chill, or other crazy things).

Looking Ahead

in Guardian

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

I would completely agree with moving Kindled Zeal to Master. Considering the placement of Amplified Wrath, being able to take Fiery Wrath, Kindled Zeal (10%), and Amplified Wrath would be perfect synergy. Zealous Blade is probably the best contender for moving up to GM. I’d either double the scaling, make it heal in a 240 radius, or heal for ~5% of damage dealt. For Zeal I think that’d be fine. other traits aren’t necessarily underpowered, but they don’t look as appealing as others.

Radiance:

  • Searing Flames needs to proc per target, not once per 10s.
  • Shimmering Defense probably needs to be reworked. The cooldown, effect, and trigger are all too far off for what they bring. I could see an option being “Apply Torment on Blind”, probably mimicking the numbers from Virtues 1 (3 stacks for 5s).
  • Powerful Blades is alright, but maybe having a different effect in exchange for that +5% we got not too long ago might be a bit better. Perhaps Bleed on crit could work.
  • Retal and Signets traits are otherwise alright. Those are mostly limited by retal itself or signets themselves.

Valor: Valor is fine.

Honor:

  • Wrathful Spirit doesn’t feel up to par, but I don’t really have thoughts for it. Retal for 3s is fairly lackluster, even if it does effect allies. Pure of Heart does the “on Aegis” effect much better (even Shattered Aegis too).
  • Resolute Healer seems to have a far longer cd than it should. Mesmers can cause a Feedback bubble every 10s, while ours merely absorbs. Our bubble can also knockback, preventing stomps, but I don’t think that justifies 50s longer to recharge. I’m not asking them to be similar, but the gap seems a bit large. (Both Feedback and Shield of Absorption have 40s cd, but these traits have a 50s gap. Mesmers can even further enhance their Feedback on rez from glamour traits.)

Virtues:

  • Unscathed Contender could afford to be reworked, but its not a huge problem. There’s some decent depth and synergy with this trait. I just don’t like it tbh.
  • Retaliatory Subconscious is another trait that doesn’t really feel up to par. 3s Retal every 30s isn’t really what I’d call impactful. Even with all the other ways to apply Retal, the real kicker is the damage reduction in PvP formats. Maybe these traits were more effective before the reduction, but now they’re fairly lackluster. A Retal rework could fix this trait without other changes (and many others), or this trait needs to have a more powerful effect. Retal + Protection for 5s perhaps, or Retal + Aegis for a similar amount. 10% uptime on a neutered effect doesn’t really do the trait justice.

Other than those, I don’t know if I’d change any other traits. Maybe some small number tweaks could be in order, or changing other aspects could in turn make traits stronger, but for the traits themselves, this is what I’d do.

How would you rework Guardian?

in Guardian

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

I want the GW2 Guardian to play similarly to the many ways you can play a Dungeons and Dragons Cleric. Incidentally, the DnD Cleric happens to already be an inspiration for the Guardian, as said by devs themselves. You can play a DnD cleric as Melee damage, supporty with heals and/or cc, Ranged damage with a Bow (or with spears/javelins wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more), Ranged damage with Spells, and more. Guardian has aspects of those, but they could stand to be fleshed out a bit more. Many skills don’t work consistently (in comparison to how other, equivalent skills work; like Mace aa3, Mace 3, Sword aa3, and others). So first, I’d have to go through and make sure its the most fluid it can be with what we have currently. Then, I could work on filling in the gaps of skill performance, like Consecrations, Spirit Weapons, and others, where their performance just doesn’t lend themselves to be wanted in nigh any situation. The concepts are fine, its just the implementation that needs a little time investment.

As much as I’m in agreement with OP’s idea, and as much as I loathe “while staying in control” (this is purely a personal issue in phrasing. Don’t mind my dislike of it, but I mention it as I’ll elaborate with my own interpretation), this is mostly spot on.

Damage is damage. Its a pretty simple concept, and in its relation to GW2, its something that is intrinsic to every profession, every build, most skills, and ideally, is a main part of a build’s design.

Support is aptly named, and much more descriptive than “healing” as has been known. It exists not just in flat heals that have been a staple to holy trinity designs, but also as boons, rezzing, and basically whatever helps you/your team do the job better.

Control, is in two parts for me. Controlling movement, and controlling damage. Controlling movement is very much what OP mentioned, and will be a noticeable aspect of most pvp-type builds. Swiftness, teleports, crowd control (notice that control is right in there) are all examples of movement control.

Controlling damage, is what used to be mainly found on tanks and buffs from healers. In GW2, we find damage control in the form of blind, block, dodging, protection etc. If it lessens the impact you or your team takes, or avoids it all together, its good, you should have some, and its extremely helpful.

Now, can you push out flat heals? Of course you can. Can you build towards facetanking champion mobs? Definitely. Should you expect individual results to vary? Yes, and like ordering fast food based on how appetizing the pictures look, you probably won’t get what you expected.

In my interpretation of things, the better builds will have satisfying aspects of all three parts of the trifecta, and while I’d say most will specialize in a given focus, the contribution of all three to the build will be noticeable. For example, the Guardian popular Altruistic Healing build template. Assuming use of a Hammer and Staff, you’ll have sufficient damage, support via party-wide boons and healing (protection, might, Empower flat heals, etc) and control of both damage and movement (again, protection, Banish, Line of Warding etc). This balancing of concepts, or at least hitting those very arbitrary “effectiveness thresholds” is what I think will grant people the most mileage in their build building. Effectiveness thresholds in this sense refer to the point at which having that extra amount, or better utilizing your current damage/support/control will be more beneficial than adding those “points” somewhere else.

We have a new way of thinking about combat and group synergy, and would benefit as a whole be regarding it as such.

Thanks for buffing Shield...

in Guardian

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

Valid point. It’s something I mentioned myself earlier in the thread. I’ll just go ahead and relist all the shield changes I think should happen, either for QoL purposes or what not.

  • Shield 4 should be unsplit and use pve values.
  • Shield 5 should last the full 4 seconds
  • Shield 5 should no longer root the guardian beyond a reasonable aftercast delay
  • Shield 5 could be a blast finisher when popping the bubble, especially if the bubble is properly removed when popped.

The blast finisher isn’t absolutely necessary, but makes sense. The rest of the changes would allow the shield to function as written. It’s the non advertised functionality that is making shield unappealing, not necessarily the concept as a weapon.

[Suggestion] Guardian Balance

in Guardian

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

They have to be different and relatively equal. There’s a point where continuing to make things equal destroys diversity and/or simplicity. You say you want to achieve a certain balance style, but frankly that’s just not what you’re delivering. It honestly looks like you’re just sticking your fingers in the dough because you want to, and not because it will improve the end result.

There’s also a concept of design, prevalent in every living MMO, where there is inherent imbalance. It not only creates an identity, but provides a degree of depth. Without it, many games would eventually become spreadsheets of the best build and rote routines for very situation. There is no life in a game like that.

There is certainly room to improve the current state of the game, but it’s good policy to make the least changes possible. Some aspects just aren’t competitive (Spirit Weapons, Signets, ect), and so they might stand for some more involved changes. But, many of the changes I’ve seen in both documents are convoluted for no reason, and some go directly against design philosophies used from the beginning. I still can’t decide if I want to comment on your desired changes or if I should make my own wish post instead, but what I do know is that I would not want most of whats in this thread to have serious consideration.

Anytime you break a stun without “Shake it Off!”, you’re still healing yourself for 6k and everyone near you for 3k. Every 5 seconds Sigil of Water is healing you for 600 and allies for 720. In addition to all this, between Adrenal Health and Healing Signet, you have 1044hps pretty much constantly.

The Justicar: An experiment in E-Spec design

in Guardian

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

I was bored, so I made a thing. I probably forgot some pieces here and there, and I didn’t do any serious balance, just copy/pasted from other skills and did a quick damage pass. Anyway, I thought it would be fun and it was.

Specialization: Justicar

Weapon: Main Hand Axe
[Skill 1]: Chain Whip (¾s cast)
Whip your Axe around on a chain, inflicting Bleeding on foes. (2x 231 (.63), 5s bleed, 300u, 3 targets)
[Skill 2a]: Axe Toss (½s cast, 10s recharge)
Throw your Axe, Bleeding and dealing damage to foes it passes through. (127 (.33) 2x 5s Bleed)
[Skill 2b]: Leap of Devotion
Leap to your target, dealing heavy damage upon arrival. (462 (1.26), 240u, 5 targets)
[Skill 3:] Symbol of Fury (¾s cast, 15s recharge)
Grant Fury (2s) to allies in the area. (3x 346 (.9), 3s duration, 180u, 5 targets)

New Mechanic: Virtue of Patience
Virtue of Patience allows you to gain Willpower. Activating Virtue of Patience spends all Willpower
Passive: Gain 1 Willpower per second.
Active: Cure yourself of Cripple, Chill, and Immobilize. Inflict Immobilize on your target (2s). Recharge is halved if Willpower is full. (40s recharge)
Inspired Virtues grants Swiftness

Utility: Word
Invoke a Word. Word upkeep costs Willpower (-1 upkeep costs 1 Willpower per second)

[Heal]: Word of Replenishment ( -1 upkeep, 20s recharge) Heal a small amount per incoming condition (51+(.04) per condition, 240u)
[Heal b]: Absolute Resistance
Heal yourself and grant Resistance to nearby allies (4,620 (0.4) 4s Resistance, 240u)
[Utility 1a]: Word of Wrath (-2 upkeep, 15s recharge)
Periodically deal damage and Burn foes (192 (.33) 1x Burning (6s), 3s icd, 240u, 5 targets)
[Utility 1b] Vicious Wrath
Damage and burn foes in the area (577 (1.5) 3x Burning (3s), 5 targets, 240u)
[Utility 2a]: Word of Meekness (-1 upkeep, 15s recharge)
Inflict Vulnerability on enemies (x3 Vulnerability, 6s duration, 3s icd, 5 targets, 240u)
[Utility 2b]: Weaken Knees
Inflict Weakness to nearby enemies (4s duration, 5 targets, 240u)
[Utility 3a]: Word of Binding(-2 upkeep, 20s recharge)
Periodically Cripple nearby foes (1s duration, 3s icd, 5 targets, 240u)
[Utility 3b]: Binding Chains
Immobilize foes around you (2s duration, 240u)
[Utility 4a]: Word of Punctuality (-1 upkeep, 30s recharge, 240u)
+25% movement speed
[Utility 4b]: Punctual Arrival
Teleport to target foe (1200u)
[Elite a]: Word of Defiance(-3 upkeep, kitten recharge)
Periodically grant Stability to nearby allies (1 stack, 3s duration, 240u)
[Elite b]: Defiant Presence
Break Stuns for allies and Taunt Foes
(2s duration, 5 targets, 240u)

Traits:
[Minor 1]: The Inquisition
Gain access to Axes, Word skills, and Virtue of Patience.
[Adept 1]: The Judge
Immobilize deals damage (.33 Condition Damage +160). Gain extra Willpower when you strike an Immobilized foe. (1 Willpower)
[Adept 2]: Precise Retribution
Gain 150 Precision while under the effects of Retaliation.
[Adept 3]: Shielding Determination
Gain Aegis when you break out of a stun. (5s duration)

[Minor 2]: Just Agony
Virtue of Justice inflicts Torment instead of Burning.
[Master 1]: The Jury
When afflicted by [A Control Effect], gain Willpower and grant Might to nearby allies (1 Willpower, 5s duration).
[Master 2]: Retaliatory Axe
Critical Hits while wielding an Axe grant have a chance to grant Retaliation. (25% chance, 3s duration, 10s icd)
[Master 3]: Empowering Presence
Active Words grant Might (1x Might 3s duration)

[Minor 3]: Torment of Justice
Deal + 10% damage to foes inflicted with Torment.
[GM 1]: The Executioner
Incoming movement-impeding conditions have their durations reduced. (-25%). Gain + 5% damage for each of these conditions that don’t affect you.
[GM 2]: Barbed Retribution
Being struck while under the effects of Retaliation inflicts Bleeding (1x Bleeding, 5s duration)
[GM 3]: Steadfast Beacon
Take 3% less damage for each active Word

Extra Details: Borrowing aspects from the Berserker, Reaper, and Herald, the Justicar relentlessly pursues its foes. It becomes unstoppable in its pursuit of Justice, tormenting foes with the guilt of their misdeeds. The mere presence of a Justicar can compel evil to stand trial or burn.

Hybrid Guardian for WvW?

Posted by: Ghotistyx.6942

Ghotistyx.6942

Hybrid Roaming Guard

This is similar to what one of my Guardians runs. It plays similarly to the normal Meditrapper, but with Burns instead of crits. Purging Flames is literally the burn version of Test of Faith, and with Radiance and Fury you get +45% crit chance for basically free. When on Sword you have a Burst every 10s by double throwing Zealot’s Fire. Purging Flames has long duration burns, so use that offensively when condition clears have been used up. I put Focus in the build, but I personally run shield and it works just as well. I picked Litany of Wrath over Shelter because I like how it synergizes with the build better, but especially if you’re fearing a lot of burst (and not running Focus) swap the heal to Shelter. Also for Sigils, I just added random decent options. Pick any two you like (not just ones I’ve offered) and mirror those between sets.

I have to say, its one of the most fun builds I have.

I’ll mention again that removing defenders dogma and replacing it with a 25% passive run speed trait is the perfect solution to this problem

Trackers need to move fast to chase their quarry.
Hunters sit silently and still, waiting for their prey to walk into their trap (physical or effectual).

My build for guardian dps/survivability?

Consider Runes of the Wurm over Exuberance. You’ll gain 222 Ferocity, while losing 121 power, 87, Precision, and 52 Hpow. You can drop curry butternut for sweet and spicy butternut and with RHS and Fury, you’ll still have 71% crit. If you switch to Valkyrie weapons, you can further up your power and ferocity at a slight cost to toughness and vit.

modified armor page with some options to consider. Depends on how much you value that precision. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fVEQNAsfRl0ApbolDxdI8DNh/QY9xUAWvX3e+B-TViFABDcEAU7UAkmeAFV/Jn9HuSJIAPAAmU+ZnmgAAIA3sNbzbG4oH9oH9oHtduzduzduzSBExyI-w

If you’re going to be zerging, I’ll vouch for Sigil of Celerity. its be crazy

Also, there is no armor cap, soft or hard.

[PvP] Weakest weapon on your class?

For guardian,

*Scepter
It’s actually the highest dps weapon we have, but actually landing that damage is very unreliable. AA and smite are offenders of this. Chains of light is pretty good, but it doesn’t give a great feel. Scepter doesn’t really synergize well with much of anything the guardian has.

*torch or shield depending on game mode. Torch is really only used for tossing blue fire while cleansing flames doesn’t provide much. Shield suffers from very long cooldowns for short effects that are situationally useful.

As I mentioned in a similar thread,

Shield 4 scales 1:1 with power, has 600 range, and while traited, provides 30% protection uptime with no boon duration. Pair it with Hold the Line and you’ve got your 50%+ protection uptime.

Shield 5 provides a knockback, projectile defense, and a 1300+0.2*Hpow heal every 19 seconds while traited, which could be anywhere from 68 to 84 hps iirc.

The cooldown reductions have helped a lot, and it certainly has a niche when paired with the main hand weapons. Generally when you have “weak effects” on a weapon set you should expect lower cooldowns, and that’s exactly what shield has gotten.

Ricochet... gone???

Now hold up there broskis. If you look in the first few posts of this thread, you’ll know that I did indeed use and enjoy ricochet. I might have even said it was the first thief build that actually felt nice and fun to play (can’t remember if I mentioned that).

However, specifically talking about the purity of pistol, ricochet steps on the toes of SB. Earlier, ricochet was fine as evidenced by its existence as a trait. Now, however, it doesn’t fit with future plans. It’s quite random (not that I particularly mind rng), hard to balance (largely because of its very random nature). Some skills never worked with it, some have incredibly strong and unreliable effects (4 bounce headshot for 4ini anyone?). And with the increased emphasis on weapon and build roles, ricochet gets the axe. Most styles of p/p stay intact, despite the loss of aoe. Want bursty unloads? You can do that with Executioner and No Quarter. Need sustain through Unload spam? IP, SigoMalice, Assassin’s Reward can give around 2k hp per Unload. You can also do trap p/p lockdown, condi or hybrid venom p/p with torment on interrupt. There are plenty of options, and none specifically require ricochet.

And no, no one is forcing you to play a certain way except yourself. Killshot warrior is my preferred method of play, more than any other warrior build at least. I was enjoying hybrid guardian long before the specialization update. The recent update has effected every single build of my 17 characters, but I’ve been able to adapt.

And no, Anet does not need consent to make changes to their game. You bought access to their product. You did not buy stock in the company, nor did you buy yourself a position to make demands. You can’t always get to play your way. Maybe I want killshot to be a 1500 radius death star laser that gives me exotics for every mob I kill. Maybe I wanted to be able to stack symbols to stack 10% damage effects and pvd gates down in wvw. Maybe my playstyle is to nuke thieves in pvp with the old Grenade Barrage and Grenadier. I can’t do any of those, so I have to adapt. Maybe I want to play a condi Necro, but I can only find Diamond Skin eles to fight against. Can’t play that way any longer, need to adapt.

Ricochet was an interesting trait, but it was always really odd. And at this point, it was too odd to stay.

@Danu
Petitions are not kosher on these forums, and will generally either get posts removed or the thread locked, as per my observations.

@KittenHugz
I’m not talking about purity of pistol in a literal sense. I’m not, nor is Anet, saying anything about the realism of the pistols. It’s purely about the roles the weapons give to the thief as a profession, which is internally consistent. Short bow is, currently, the ranged aoe weapon. Both power and condition (and some utility). Before specializations happened, ricochet was a fine trait. However now, your chosen personal role is being magnified, which is where ricochet muddies the water. SB has much more aoe potential than ricochet could ever give. The popularity of ricochet prevented p/p from having the niche that was needed. Now, could Anet have created an elite specialization to fulfill that role? Sure, but maybe they haven’t. Maybe they decided to pursue a staff or mace as the featured weapon instead of a rifle to fulfill some other niche. We can’t read Anet’s mind, and we don’t know what their decisions are going to be in the future. I’m going to go ahead and say Anet probably knows more about the direction and health of the game as a while than we do, so I’ll leave the decision making to them.

Also, your definition of ricochet says nothing that would make it more likely to bring back. If we’re going for realism and “logic”, as your stance seems to be, then ricochet should be severely toned down and made baseline across all professions.

@jonG
It’s odd because it gives a 50% chance to bounce, up to 3 times (4 hits), doesn’t ever hit a target twice, and doesn’t work with some pistol rounds, though it doesn’t ever tell you which those are. Unload damage and additional effects have a massive swing in numbers, p/d 3 isn’t affected, d/p 3 will port you to the each person the bullet bounces to which is Russian roulette for targeting, etc.

I could see something like ricochet coming back, buy probably not until it becomes a much more straightforward trait.
