Was experiencing this as well when attempting to purchase PoF, in the end it worked via Chrome browser, though initially there is also ran into an error.

Via ingame store:
“Unfortunately an error has occurred. Please try again later!”

Via IE 11 I didn’t even get into the store at all (“INET_E_REDIRECT_FAILED”)
Via Chrome some code came up (didn’t save a screenshot, and in the end it worked, so can not recreate this anymore)

Today I renamed gw2-64.exe to gw2.exe as it was indicated that renaming the file should be OK. When doing fractals a bit later I experienced 2 crashes right after each other. In each error report it showed "App: Gw2-64.exe ", despite me having renamed the exe file. So that makes me wonder if renaming the exe file is actually as harmless as one would expect?

The name in crash reports is always the original executable name. Otherwise we wouldn’t be able to identify it when we receive the crash report. Renaming the executable is perfectly fine.

OK, Thanks, then I can strike that as possible cause for those two crashes. Guess it would have been to easy if renaming the file back to the original file name would be the solution for this

Which is where the disagreement lies. Banning all of someone’s accounts accounts because they broke the rules on some of them is ridiculous with a couple of possible exceptions (for example, abusing exploits on one account to feed gold/materials to a main account).

Say I have 3 accounts and decided to share one with a friend. I get caught. Do I deserve to have all of my accounts banned or just the one that was shared/had the rules broken? Personally, I’m solidly in the “just the one account, if at all” camp. The ToS are agreed to on a per account basis; how can they be applied across multiple accounts?

Interesting stance on this matter, almost as if accounts should be considered as self acting beings? Personally I am of the opinion that “Accounts” don’t cheat by themselves, it is the person behind the account that cheats. And cheaters are to be sanctioned. So if the cheater owns several accounts the sanctions should also be of effect on all accounts (what an appropriate sanction is for each situation then is a different discussion).

And indeed, ToS/User Agreement are confirmed per account: confirmed and entered in to by the customer (individual person). An account is merely one of the subjects of the ToS. It is not a party to the agreement, the customer (individual person) however is. So if a customer (individual person) owns 10 accounts, cheats on one account, then it is still a breach of ToS by the customer (individual person) and as such the customer (individual person) puts all it’s accounts at risk by doing so.

So let’s not pretend that it is the account that is doing something that is not allowed and that other accounts of the same person should not be effected: it is the person behind the account that is doing this.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

Quite a short notice on this not so un-important aspect of the game. Can only guess that this means that ANet has been tweaking or breaking their minds on this matter till the very last moment as they are probably very well aware that a lot of people wanted and expected elite specializations to be readily and fully playable from minute 0. Which clearly isn’t ANet’s goal for elite specializations. That they postponed this till now is, for me, an indication that they searched for an appropriate balance till the very last moment, while not deviating to far from their original intent. Hehe, for all we know the plan originally was to require all of our current maximum possible unlocked Hero Points plus 400 HoT Hero Points…….. imagine that! :/

Having said that, would for sure have been preferential if it had been communicated a bit more in advance that unleashing the full power (and looks) of the elite specializations is supposed to be a journey which we embark on with the release of HoT and that we should expect to unlock the full capability of each elite specialization as we venture deeper into the jungle.

Personally I can appreciate the goal to make unleashing the full power of the elite specialization a journey which we embark on at release.

Was/am looking forward to the expansion of the guild missions to include also the other game modes, in particular WvW. Though I must admit I find it quite an interesting choice that when moving from a PvE orentied activity (which guild missions currently are) to a multi-mode oriented activity (but with choice to continue to focus on a single game mode) it is first forced upon all to “experience” the multi-mode before being able to switch back to the PvE mode. Sure I can understand you want people to experience this new and great opportunity, but when looking at the starting point, wouldn’t it have been more logical to set it standard on the PvE-mode (“as is”) and leaving it up to the guilds if they want to move away from this single mode setting?

Oh well, guess that means we will simply have to see now how to shape this on our guild mission evening.

Haha… with ideas I read so far above (Mesmer – Minstrel, Ranger – Bard), they could theme a whole expansion around that…. GW2: the musical. Each profession gets an elite musically themed specialization, new weapons (“the instrument collection”), foes are now armed with tomatoes and rotten eggs, new combat mode: tune you play determines how much damage you do to your foe, success depends on how many tones you hit correct while dodging tomatoes and rotten eggs

HOT expansion, core game refund?

Gode Fridus.5607

@Lucy, indeed, as you indicate, the communication published by ArenaNet does not explicitely describe your situation and I haven’t seen this answered by ANet somewhere else. So best to contact support directly. As purchases are/would be via two different sales channels I personally am doubtfull if in your specific case ANet would provide a refund and lets you keep your progress.

@Ardenwolfe, no need to be leery at all, at least not merely because it concerns a boxed version: official boxed versions hit the shelves of retailers on June 23, see FAQ on pre-purchase. Nevertheless one best check if the retailer is an authorized retail partner of ANet.

Portal to maguuma, no beta access?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gode Fridus.5607

Gode Fridus.5607

In this case the “investment” did not guarantee a certain result, other than that it would provide access to a closed beta. By spending more time in Silverwastes one for sure could increase the likelihood of eventually acquiring a portal. However the real return was not the portal, but the beta this portal would give access to. And no one had any real clue on how this beta would be shaped. Referring to previous beta’s for GW2 does not really help as initial release of GW2 was preceded both by beta weekends (though I believe BWE1-3 were only with guaranteed access if you pre-purchased GW2, hey, that sure sounds familiar) as well as short stress tests. For HoT we – to my recollection – only had one closed PvE beta before the portals were put in the game as a drop. So neither excludes nor includes the other.

Simple fact remains that no one new for sure what kind of beta the portal would provide access to, nor when this would take place and if it would be for more than 1 closed beta. As such one could have hopes or personal expectations about how the beta would be shaped, but bottom line that all was pure speculation as ANet had not announced anything about the closed beta the portal would give access to. Any time spent on acquiring the portal consequently was at own risk.

But even though I personally think that one shouldn’t have realistically expected more from the portal, I can not escape the feeling that ANet could or at least should have known in advance that there would be quite a few players who would mirror the time spent on acquiring the portal to the type and period of closed beta that would be provided access to. In that sense ANet themselves created, at least partially, this expectation with some players by putting the portal in the game as a rare drop. That doesn’t mean I think they now should provide access to portal owners for the next beta, but I do think they could have been more clear in advance about what to expect.

Pre-Purchase Community Address

Gode Fridus.5607

Hi Lidith, if you only own GW2 (the “core” game) then you have to buy the Hearth of Thorns expansion if you want to enjoy the new content that comes with the expansion.

The expansion indeed includes the core game as a free add-on and ArenaNet has addressed concerns expressed by people who already own the core game in following article: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/pre-purchase-community-address/

How this is handled in your specific case depends very much on the source where you bought Guild Wars 2.

Mastery and altaholics?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Gode Fridus.5607

Gode Fridus.5607

“Each Mastery track is tied to a region of Tyria— they must be unlocked with Mastery points gained in that region and can only be trained in that region. With the launch of Heart of Thorns, there will be two Mastery regions: the Heart of Maguuma, encompassing all PvE zones that are part of the Heart of Thorns expansion, and the core Guild Wars 2 world, encompassing all PvE zones currently available in the game today. "

See the bolded part, you are not locking yourself out of “Maguuma Masterpoints” if you spend time in both regions. Both regions are completely seperate, not only for kind of mastery tracks in which you have to invest, but also with regard to mastery point that can be earned and spent.

Also, the Masteries are account wide. So if at one point you decide to move the characters from the “old world” to the Heart of Maguuma then they have access to what the other chars in that region have already unlocked. Which is very alt friendly.

Some Mastery points in the “old world” will come from content that you may have already completed, and these Mastery points will be automatically awarded to you with the release of Heart of Thorns. So you’ll probably have some mastery points in the “old world” right from the start which you can’t spend on anything else but “old world” masteries. <— this makes me wonder how much mastery points there will actually still remain to be earned in the “old world” for veteran players.

Wasn’t a real post, but there earlier was a notification that they were doing maintenance (same spot as where I later got the notification that the maintenance was over). Not sure if that message showed if you weren’t actually logged in to the forum.

Maintenance message however showed up later than the actual disconnect issues, at least for me :/ So perhaps that was the same for you and you missed the message on the maintenance cause you visited the forum before and after that notification was there?

Same issue here, playing from EUR. In Silverwastes it was within a couple of seconds, but experiencing this also in other maps.

A pity that this is happening on a grand day as today, which is one of those “make or break days”: grand announcement to be made, in combination with potentially large inflow of new players thanks to price discount on GW2…. a pity their first impression with GW2 will be quite negative because of all those disconnects.

Order of messages in your inbox seem to hint at that you, apparently without noticing it, started episode 3 (The Dragon’s Reach: Part 1) and then returned to episode 1 (Gates of Maguuma). Cause when repeating episode 1 that one starts with the mail “Strange Happenings”, which is at the top of your mailbox.

Instruction for rallying call is (as you can read on your screenshot): check your mail for “Pale tree will see us”. According to that same screenshot this mail is already in your mailbox!! So what about actually reading it?

If the message is already in your mailbox then it will not be sent again, you have to read the one already in your mailbox or delete that one first.

Are "Gates of Maguuma" for lvl 80?

in Living World

Gode Fridus.5607

Season 2 is aimed at level 80:

“For the Living World story, you’ll be able to select which unlocked episode you’d like to play. Characters under level 80 will be able to see the available episodes, but will not be able to play them until they reach level 80. Think of the Living World story as the constantly expanding continuation of your character’s storyline once they reach level 80.”

Add two more people to this, both a guildy of mine and I experienced this yesterday. Made no difference if he started it or I, nor if we went seperate.

Had the same abnormality as in the screenshot provided by DunkinFresh (pressing F or double clicking both resulted in this abnormality). Quest perhaps not updating because of impossibility to correctly interact with NPC?

Above description is close to how it worked. 5 chains need to be broken and if one of the 5 fails then a new round starts again at the first path. It is done once all 5 chains are broken. Be aware though that in the “2nd round” phase 2 was a lot tougher than during the 1st round: in addition to the champ we also had to fight some adds in the second round of phase 2. So best to get 5 out 5 the first round.

Only 5 Character Slots Is A Major Disappointment

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Gode Fridus.5607

Gode Fridus.5607

Business model is “slightly” different between WoW and GW2… whereas WoW lives of you 1) buying the game and then 2) paying to continue to play the game, in GW2 you 1) pay for the game and 2) continue to play for free. So there is quite a difference in the interest of making more slots available. For WoW, the more slots they give you, the more time you need just to level all those toons… without them even having to add content in order to have you continue paying for the game. That doesn’t apply to GW2. GW2 gives you a more limited number of character slots, but it is your own choice if you to invest in more toons.

5 slots perfectly enables you to create one toon of each race. Though sure, 8 would’ve been nice in order to have 1 of each class. But having the versatility to use each class is probably only really relevant for competitive PvP and for that purpose you have the ability to re-roll a toon on 1 slot, without having to re-level each toon.

Besides, as stated by others, by the time you have completely leveled those 5 toons in PvE you’ll have acquired plenty of gold to buy more slots by converting ingame cash to gems. Without having to spend any real cash.

Be as it is, considering that this is the players helping players section of the forum, what are you asking from us??? You’ve been advised by several people already that if you just play the game and start with the toons that are available to you that you’ll make plenty of gold to buy the slots with ingame gold. However that apparently wasn’t the help you were looking for… so what do you want from us? That we provide you with the funds for more character slots?

Or are you just looking for a place to ventilate your frustration and picked this place for it?

Sure you are aiming at the right ship? Must admit that at first I was aiming a relatively small ship to the left. This because when I manned the trebuchet it was aimed in that direction…. after wondering why it didn’t go down though hit after hit were right on it, a look to the right showed a much bigger ship…. 1 shot to aim, 1 shot to hit it…. and it went down
