I honestly feel that the delivery of the new features was a bit lackluster. We can all agree the presentation left much to be desired. Anet didn’t WOW us with the new expansion, and this is coming from a huge Guildwars fan. Anet needs some dedicated PR people to put on a good show and excite the crowd…or teach Colin how to be exciting.
More of a request than a question: Could we get one of those pretty watercolor-looking desktop backgrounds for Heart of Thorns like there have been for other releases? I’m ready to jump on the hype train.
3) On Dulfy it is said that it will be playable in 6 weeks at PAX East… So we can expect it to drop on August like the main game? Before or after? :p There will be available a pre-purchase like the one we had for the main game? :p i had to try and ask these questions XD
Guild Wars 2 had a playable demo in GamesCom 2010. It was released two years later, in 2012.
So, the fact we will have a playable demo in 6 weeks means your release window is anything from 6 weeks plus one day to two years
To be honest we can rely on the expected earnings report of NCSOFT. They have projected their earnings from their guildwars 2 franchise to triple in the 3rd Quater (June-September) of this year, now this could mean 1 of 2 things. 1) This is when the pre-order will be available (most likely) or 2) This is the expected release window for HoT(hopefully).
- When will the first beta be?
On the Website heartofthorns.guildwars2.com there is an FAQ and they answered this question. Pretty much they don’t know yet.
My Questions:
1) As we are all aware the most recent world boss to be added has been the Three Wurms in Bloodtide Coast, this boss is by far the most interesting world boss we have to fight. For HoT can we expect additional world boss or are we only getting ‘raid’ type bosses? Also can we expect an update to existing World Bosses?
2) It seems like a lot of people are asking this next question in a variety of different ways, so I’ll be as general as possible. What content mentioned in the press release/anouncement of Guildwars2: Heart of Throns is exclusive to players who own HoT?

To be honest, we have no idea what to expect. Sure a lot of these suggestions are great, but this will be the first expansion to guildwars 2 so we really don’t have any concrete evidence of any of these changes we should be “expecting”.
I do not belive they would add a whole new race into the game. That simply doesn’t make any sense. Sure Anet has said they would like to but they wouldn’t just throw it at us like that. It is more likely for a new class than a new race. Historically guildwars has added new classes to their standalone expansion, but like I said before this is the fist GW2 expansion so it’s all up in the air. New weapons and skills will most likely occur.
Also Lordkrall you can find the list of hinted/discusses ideas for guildwars 2 in the wiki, under Upcoming changes and features.
Yeah I’m on an Asura, and slide across the ground, well hover actually because me channel makes me hover. And I don’t think that just because there is no moving animation it’s a bug, because when you’re sliding around with the channel animation it tells everyone, he is channeling RF.
Wow, are you serious? That’s either a potentially awesome buff to Renewed Focus or a bug. I haven’t seen any documentation commenting on it. A couple of questions:
- Does Elite Focus actually lengthen the duration of Renewed Focus Invulnerability?
- Does Elite Focus allow you to _ immediately_ begin moving while casting Renewed Focus, or after the first three seconds?
- Have you tried it without Elite Focus?
I’ll try it when I get home.
1 yes it lengthens it from 3 to 5 seconds
2 immediately
3 yes and you can’t move
I mean if this is a buff to the skills that’s great, I mean renewal focus wasn’t a horrible elite but it was very situational, now it’s got a lot more used, kiting while invulnerable, and getting out of sticky situations. This makes it a good elite.
I just don’t want to use it so much and then Anet just take it back to how it was. I truly believe every bunker should be running it now.
Oh and I use it as an Asura in sPvP
In the Trait:Virtues, number VII “Elite Focus” reads “Elite skills last longer” but when combo-ed with “Renewed Focus” it allows you to cast the Invul while moving, It no longer becomes a stationary skill. I mean is it a glitch? Because the description says nothing of it, and the wiki doesn’t either, or is it just not written there?
See there is where you’re wrong, I have used a few Glory Boosters that give you more glory but it doesn’t effect Rank Points, and when I press H Its the same number as the number on the bottom of the screen, but I know I have gotten more Glory than Rank points. Or is the ending “score” of sPvP not accurate? because I know I have seen a bigger Glory number than Rank number, but the game could be giving me the same number?
I’m hoping someone has an answer, at the end of any sPvP match/ Tournament reward, you get Glory and Rank Points, I see the bottom of the screen you have Glory points, and on the Hero screen under sPvP it is also Glory. So what is Rank Point for? and where do you see it?
FYI It’s not a kiting event, Never was intended to be one. People did it that way because you could kite the mobs and not have a problem. Its a Defend the NPC event, where you have to fight the mobs.
And you make it sound like CoF is the ONLY way to gear up as a “Fresh” level 80, there are numerous ways to gear.
The only 2 point you have are 1 and 2, but they are moot if 3 and 4 are not correct, thus your whole argument is meaningless. Sure I don’t like the update, but not because of these moot points you spew from your mouth, I don’t like it simply because it doesn’t fix anything
The spawn rates for defense are ridiculous. People die when kiting, that is, when actively attempting to avoid as much damage as possible, teams still routinely wipe. Telling people that they should instead be fighting is ludicrous, monsters simply have way to much hp to actually be successfully killed during the time limit before they overwhelm you.
Really? I have completed CoF with a group with 0 wipes, in this new patch, what did we do, we fought. A very organized fight. everyone knew what they had to kill and what they had to do. it’s really not that hard, just time consuming. You obviously don’t understand how the game mechanics work, and you’re obviously not utilizing combo fields and mass healing. I really hate it how you people come in here and cry all day about useless topics, Yes the dungeon system has problems. Is this a problem? NO, its not.

Having no real pve endgame content for casual players
I Stopped reading here because anything you say beyond this point is moot. The audience Anet cares about most is the “Casual” players and launch almost all 50+ areas were bugged in some way shape or form. at higher levels Bugs were around almost every corner, but you never saw one in the levels 1-49 zones, simply because they knew most players would be there for a week or 2 so they had time to fix the level 50-80 stuff in the coming days. sPvP tournaments are not even finished yet, and if they are then, oh boy there is some sad news. So please don’t say Anet doesn’t care about Casuals, because they do, because they know that Casuals will leave if the intro zones are bugged, and “hardcore” players will stay and struggle through the Bugs in the late game as if we are beta testers for the Casuals.
Really, does anyone 100% support the dungeon system in its current state?
Here is a list of problems I see with it.
Time Consuming does not equal Difficulty
Mobs simply take too long to kill, there is nothing really interesting in certain fights, especially if you have already played through the dungeon and you are going in for round 2. Honestly some fights become boring, I would rather spend 5-7 minutes on a mob because my team isn’t doing something right than spending 5-7 minutes on a mob because that is just how long it takes to get its enormous health bar to 0. There is this one Champion mob in the Dungeon with Zoija, which took longer to kill than the epic boss at the end. This fight was not interesting/difficult in any way, it simply padded the time for the dungeon. Something taking a while to do doesnt mean its difficult. Sure this is one example but there are countless others
Rewards
Chests
1 out of maybe every 20+ chests I open in exploratory mode give me something worth any money, almost every time I get useless Blues and Greens. Sure about now you’re thinking about the Token system, but please hold that thought till the next part. The Chest give me no sense of “That was rewarding”. simply just the same as a mob pick up. It is a sad, sad day when you have just taken out this Huge Undead Giant that gave your a group a run for their money at the exciting ending to a dungeon and all he drops is a white lvl 76 war horn and 50 copper, and if you count the chest 2 blues and an extra 1 Silver.
Tokens
The Token system is stupid. Terribly designed. Please if you support this system explain to me why. The thought behind it was, “You don’t have to keep doing dungeons and not getting the drop you needed, every time you complete a dungeon you will work towards something you can use”. Lets us the Citadel of Flames (CoF) for example because everyone is running it and realizes this inherent problem. The first run of the day on any explorable mode yield 30 Tokens (15 from chest, 15 for completion) which there are 3 explorable modes, so lets say it yield 90 for 1st time runs. Now you need 1,380 for just a legendary set armor, and lets say you want a sword and shield, and a great-sword to go on your second set. this ends you up at 2,280 tokens. Now running all 3 modes of the dungeon you need to run it 38 times, that is 114 runs of CoF to get a full set. Okay maybe I over exaggerate, maybe you dont need the sword, shield and great-sword, you only want the sword, so you’re at 1,680, if you run all 3 modes then you’re looking at 28 times per 3 runs that means 84 times running through CoF. Now lets look at the CoF “Speed Run” 30 Tokens for 1st time then 20 tokens for every time after that, just for the armor (1,380) you need to run it 68 times, okay running it 68 times in one day sounds really boring, so lets say you want to do it in a week, 7 day, that rounds up to be about 9 times a day for a week and an extra run in one of those day. I’m sorry but running something 10 times a day for a week to get 1 set of Max Armor is ridiculous . Not only does the Token system take away from the rewarding factor of opening a chest in a dungeon run, but it also makes you grind dungeons. I am not asking for the removal of the token system, simply asking for a re-vamp of doing it, their prices are too high or you don’t get enough tokens. Maybe increasing the Difficulty of the explorable modes and making it so you get enough tokens in 1-2 runs enough to buy you 1 piece of armor then I would be fine with that. At current standings you have to run on average 12 times per 1 piece of gear.
Now please don’t get me wrong, I have had a spectacular time going through some of these dungeons, there are some really interesting mechanics, and some rooms require a great deal of proficiency and skill to get through smoothly. I’m simply stating that the currently Dungeon system is not good at its current state. Simply the fact that it feels like a huge time commitment and lack of rewards really over shadows the great job Anet did with the actual dungeon system, the Narratives are great, the different Mechanics/Gimmicks are fun (at times). I honestly feel Anet has a back-bone of a great dungeon system and experience, it just needs to be refined.
