I’m just writing in absolute frustration. I find jumping puzzles really difficult but enjoy the challenge. My co-ordination is absolutely terrible but I was getting there.
Then I got a glider. And now it deploys at absolutely the wrong moments, so not only am I already nervous that I’m not going to judge jumps correctly because of my already bad co-ordination, the game is expecting me to let go of the spacebar, etc. at a precise moment.
This just added several more times worth of difficulty for me. As I read in another post, someone said they are used to holding onto the space bar as games of old required it when jumping. I, too, am from that era and so tend to hold onto the space bar, willing my character forwards. Before it didn’t matter. Now I have to totally retrain, and I don’t know if I have the inclination.
So, to add my complaints/requests/ plea onto those that have mentioned this before, Please ArenaNet, Please Fix This!!! (A toggle would be lovely.)
Thanks
To be honest one of the hardest things for me about the Silverwastes and Drytop was the dry brown sandy barren look. So tiring to the eyes.
So I was knocked flat when I came into the Itzel village and the colors, the details and the level of artistry here. I want to just say that my friends and I just ran around staring and peaking into tree-huts astounded at the beautiful setting you created.
I want to thank the Devs that worked on this, I want you to know that its beautiful and is a rich and immersive environment. For the first time I got really excited about what other places I might discover.
This. I hated the other two areas because they were desert. I really, REALLY hate desert scenery.
Is this not just like in GW1 with the Shining Blade and the factions, you didn’t know who was acting for the best of the people in that instance either. Each side claimed that role (just like in RL).
The two scouts (shields) going to the ruins got confused with a battle going on a level below and just kept running backward and forwards over the same piece of ground until the far away (ish) enemies were all killed.
I didn’t even know about the UI Mastery until reading here after the event. So yes, it isn’t very user friendly in that regard.
Did you glide in?
I didn’t find that nighttime darkened that much, or really at all for me. If it hadn’t had said that it was ‘night’, I wouldn’t have known.
Its how they look. Much more like a frog/humanoid cross.
So were we supposed to beta test something?

I dont know if you were meant to fall off the bridges in the Hylek camp (were they Hylek? They were sure ugly!). I died on one and I don’t even know how, I was running on it straight.
That being said, I had the thought in the middle of it that the groups of enemies will be hard to down without the mkittens of players we just had to kill them.

Did anyone come across any problems other than things not being developed/coded in yet?
Just looked at the first map on full screen, there is about that much again with a doughnut hole in the middle that hasn’t been developed yet, you just fall down into blackness.
*spoilers – this is some of the map (can’t tell by the thumbnail how much of the map is showing)
Day/night cycle is 2 hours (hence the beta test time limits, each will be a full cycle). Mordrem attack at night.
Ok, it’s the Maguuma Jungle from GW1. Feel is sort of a mixture of Dry Top and Silverwastes together, i.e. ‘Save the main Pact Camps’, ‘Follow the Shields’ plus random events. Quite a big map (still being built I think). Some new enemies, these giant mutant Hylek things and the enemy ones ride beetles (Also I think I saw a Terragriff rider, so the enemies get mounts it would seem).
I’m liking being back in Maguuma proper again. Has a very GW1 feel, like coming back home.
Quick question since i can log in to beta till the last stress test tonight. Do you have access to all weapons, sigils, runes, armor etc? (when i say all i mean all normally available to your class). Do i need to buy from TP etc?
Thanks
I’m testing this in the beta, so will get back to you.
Cool. Will try.
What sort of things would you like to know about?
I see. I just went back into my main necro and looked at the skill layout. The beta has the necro set for total ‘Soul Reaping’ line (which is what I must have muddled with the new ‘Reaper’ trait). Wonder if the beta will let me change the skills back to my normal skill lines?
Seeing as the Beta Entry Button has disappeared now, do we have to log out and log in again? I’m a bit afraid to now.
Woah, you’ll poke your own eyes out with the spikes on your boots there . . .
At least you know how to play it then. (no-one say ‘hit 1’) ;-)
Staff main, axe other. Was the Reaper skillset.
It did throw me when I opened up the skills to maybe change them and then realised I didn’t have my specific armour on or weapons equiped. I found it didn’t matter, I felt ridiculously powerful in whatever specs were provided for the test.
Those giant helicopter skulls are hilarious.
And sorry for the wrong apostrophe!
Yeah, I quickly looked at my skills (necro) and saw it had the new build all in place and so tried it out. Very powerful, though had all of those NP characters to help, Will need to test it on it’s own against an opponent.
What did we think so far? I still felt pretty ‘led’.
It just kicked me out. BTW, i was supprised by the timing too, thought it wasn’t for another 2 hours or so.
Thank you very much, you are a true legend.
Hello, I’m really bad at anything to do with numbers. I’ve been searching the ’net for a translation of the Beta times, but have not found anything conclusive. Can someone translate the Pacific times into UK times for me, including addition/subtraction for the Daylight Savings that may/may not exist, and the date which might therefore change? Thanks Very Much!
I was in on and off throughout the day, been trying to get one since it started. Finally I was about to log out and just thought I’d see if anything was happening in Prospct Valley, killed some inquest and suddenly a random chest showed, found one in there (we were watching Avengers and my friend thought I yelled in triumph at the end battle in that!).
Anyway, so glad to get out of Silverwastes and DryTop, really find those areas boring.
Same, I was about to reinstall as well. Now to fix the scarecrow arms. Surely there is a better way to celebrate April Fools within game? I mean, yesterday I had a BIOS reboot from no-where, thought this was related. I might have torn my system apart for no reason because of this.
