This is an MMO, not a stagnant game

That’s actually the exact wrong way around. Because it’s an MMO, therefore it is stagnant. There’s just no human way to push out content at anywhere near the same speed at which it will be devoured, so in a real sense, a lot of the world will be pretty much the same for long periods of time.

GW2 has its own unique approaches to tackling this issue, but the traditional EQ/WoW model is to put in gear treadmills at max level. What the treadmill does, from a design perspective, is allow you to get the maximum amount of use out of any content you create by essentially forcing the players to run it repeatedly. It’s a sort of psychological trick; it’s not that you’re doing anything new each time, because you’re not, they just put a tiny reward at the end of each repetition so you’ll put up with it. There’s not more content, just more to do, if you follow the distinction I’m making.

However, those games had every reason to use that trick because they had/have subscriptions, it’s either justify the player logging on each day/week or lose the subs. GW1 and 2 went without subscriptions for the specific purpose of not having that temptation there for them. Ideally, Anet didn’t need to make treadmills because they don’t make more money that way, they don’t profit from addicts.

You’re misunderstanding the complaint; what’s new to do is the fractal dungeon itself. That’s new, exciting content. A resistance gear grind alongside it is not, it’s busywork. Adding the ascended gear and the infusion grind does not give us more fun to have, it gives us more work to do.

Why do people fear 'power creep'?

Yeah, but getting max gear won’t stay easy if this trend continues.

Also, why does everyone think that power creep = more to do? There won’t be, there’ll just be mechanics forcing you to do the things you can already do, except doing it more. Like if you want to grind dungeons over and over, you can do that right now. There’s nothing stopping you. There’s just nothing forcing you either.

What is a Gear Treadmill?

What in the world are you even talking about? It’s called a treadmill because you’re running to stay in one spot, which is how the treadmill works in games like WoW; gear does not actually improve your character’s abilities, you can’t do anything new mechanically with your Paladin in WoW when you transition to epics, but you need the epics because otherwise the high-end content is mathematically impossible. You have to grind out gear to even be able to play the dungeon/raid, which is also referred to as gear-gating.

Which is why people are pissed off, we were promised that this would be a game with no gear gates, you would never need to grind out new gear to simply enter new content. Which you absolutely will for this fractal dungeon, because it is introducing a resistance gear grind, you absolutely need a certain amount of FR – excuse me, infusion – for it to even be possible to clear.

Far from us not understanding what a gear treadmill is, you not only have no clue what one is and how it works, but you took it upon yourself to tell everyone else the wrong thing.

It looks from the outside like a gear treadmill. Say what you will about exciting new rewards, that’s what it looks like, and the only reassurance that’s been given is that you don’t plan on adding another layer after this.

Trouble is, Anet already said that about exotics, and here we are; stat boosts. Who’s to say we won’t get another announcement like this in three months, hoping that if you say it the right way no one will notice what it really is?

And the worst part is that it’s a resistance gear grind. Even WoW doesn’t do that anymore.

I’ve also had this issue, but it happens mostly when I volunteer for a teamswap. When the swap comes, I get stuck on a loading screen.

I’ll never forget that moment of disappointment when I found out the invincibility on this elite was for the three-second channel, not for a short period of time while you did other stuff.

Of course, that was in beta when I was comparing it to the Tome elites that still had twenty seconds or whatever of stability. I use it now, but only because I’m sick of getting knocked out of my big heal/knockdown. The stability loss was totally not worth the ability to move.

I think it’d be nice to have some buttons to command them with. We only need one profession button for DS, maybe they could use F2, 3 and 4?

As far as condition-mancer problems, there just needs to be more than one auto-attack and a way for the player to control which one is used. Like a Lifebleed or something.

So, what do you think of Warriors in sPvP?

I havn’t had a warrior kill me without using hundred blades.

All I need to use is a stun breaker and they are dead.

If you’ve got a stunbreaker with a shorter cooldown than Bull’s Rush, they can’t kill you WITH Hundred Blades. Their fight-winning burst just never hits.
