Thanks, but maybe it seems so strong and safe because I’ve been practicing with it. After a lot of play I’ve learned a lot of the ins and outs of how my traits work with the weapon skills. That practice allows me to figure out how to hit hard while not getting hit hard myself.

Not taking anything from you at all, the game play was fantastic and youre better than most mesmers! Im not at all trying to come off as knocking your skills, so if it seems that way I apologize. What im trying to say is I dont think most other, or any other, can pull off things of this level with the same level of skill, if that makes sense. Again, thats me PERSONALLY. Love the video though

You could probably make some minor stat optimizations with your gear by using Marauder/Berserker instead of a hodgepodge of Berserker/Assassin/Valkyrie/Knights.

Marauder gear has a bit more stat points compared to the others.

Looking at the stats, it trades off a little bit of precision, ferocity, and power for an increase in vitality. This might be a welcome change as 1k HP is nothing to scoff at. Once I find a reliable way to make marauders I’ll have to check it out. Thanks for the post!

Played around with an sPvP version of this first on just the Golems, but I’m starting to somewhat like Lost Time. I totally wrote it off after the nerf and some after a little testing on a very similar build even (very interrupt oriented), but I have to say there is some nice synergy between LT, Delayed Reactions, and of course Danger Time.

Had a blast with this in sPvP matches too, which surprised me a bit. I did end up getting rid of LT and went back to CP, as well as taking Time Warp. Also went with Ether Feast and thus PI in Inspiration.

Had some really good 1v1s and bigger chaotic battles, and felt that I was definitely doing pretty darn well. My favorite was a Trap DH laying down everything in 1v1, me just waiting it out and then countering with that lovely ToT=>MB=>MS=>MW=>BF combo with a Daze mantra in between. So much lockdown, and so much pain! Love it!

Thanks for sharing, was a very fun night even in sPvP with this!

I guess I will test Lost Time today or tomorrow. Will see how it does.

Something you told me yesterday hit me, I don’t have much clone generation. I’ve been noticing this more and more as I’be been PvPing today. Upon further testing, I found that ChronoPhant is much better than Lost Time for the sole reason that I need more clone generation. The fact that the phantasms can attack again is just an added bonus. From now on I shall be using ChronoPhant instead of Lost Time.

Good vid as always! Well played surviving that many thieves. I do have a quick question for you though.

Why do you use heal mantra over ether feast? While you might gain a lot of sustain from resto mantras, you lose a ton of pressure and are super vulnerable when you have to charge both of your mantras for 5 seconds. With dom/inspir/chrono I would go for persisting images and ether feast since you use chronophant and the retal damage actually adds up very quickly with constantly resummoning your phants.

Thanks! I originally used ether feast and persisting images but switched to mantra. The main reason was for the extra sustain. With all the new builds out there I am not familiar enough with what other classes can do to properly evade all of their attacks so I need the extra heals for now . Also while it may be true that I am vulnerable while casting, I have enough active defense to adequately protect myself during the cast time. The extra condi clear is also invaluable as well as the instant cast time once the mantras have actually been prepared. This has saved me from a multitude of thieve’s bursts.

I did use ChronoPhant in this video during some clips and would absolutely run persisting images if I ever switched back to it, but for now I have decided to stick with Lost Time. My reasoning behind this is that it adds better pressure to mobile and stable enemies. Before using lost time, my phantasms would never be able to catch up to quick enemies and I could seldom interrupt stable enemies for the slow. This caused my two main sources of damage to be mitigated which made bursting near impossible. With the addition of lost time, I can apply slow to any class very frequently adding back one of my main sources of damage. The other downside of chronophant is that often I’ve noticed myself shattering the re summoned phantasms before they had a chance to attack whether that be because they couldn’t catch an enemy because they were too mobile or because i just shattered in too quick succession.

In the future when I am more comfortable with my build and the meta I will be sure to look at switching back to ether feast but for now I need the extra survivability. Thanks for the tips though!

Uhmm you are a really skilled mesmer I can tell. I do have one question though, I hope you don’t get offended. I watched every video you posted and it still surprises me how people don’t move around that much and eat a mirror blade burst to face.

I really struggle to land it in pvp especially against good thieves.

PvP and WvW are two completely different worlds. In WvW it is such a large battlefield that you can easily sneak up on people. Also, some people don’t know how to dodge :P

Regarding good thieves and good players in general, they know how to dodge and have experience fighting against shatter builds which is why it’s hard to hit them. In order to hit them with a burst one must be able to bait out their dodges and Invulns or hit them when they don’t expect it. Vashury has a great video detailing how to bait in addition to many other tips, I’ll post the link below:

You waste cooldowns and dodges way too much. An insta-decoy vs a better thief would’ve gotten you slaughtered. Your timing is good and all but I’d like to see how you stand up to thieves that actually know how to use their shortbow… those thieves in the video didn’t swap at all. Decent video though.. 7/10.

The point of feedback is to be constructive so I would love it if you could give me some examples on how to improve such as: When is it appropriate to use decoy and where do I waste my cooldowns/how can I better manage them in your opinion?

You are wasting some cooldowns.
-Try thinking more about interrupting heals and elites.
-For example in the 1v1 vs the dp thief (first one that was shown) you could of interrupted his heartseeker which would of probably killed him.
-When he swapped to sd and you did the duel where you got an immob on him while he was in shadow refuge, you coulda swapped GS and noscoped him.
-Also against thieves a really good thing to do are short bursts (meaning dodge bursts wich you already to) but also mind stab at your feet and mind wrack.
-Generally AA more, other than that, a big improvement from the one video I saw of you which I believe was your first video.

One last thing, any reason for elasticity over invigoration? I saw you run the exact same build as vashury so I was wondering if you were inspired by him or not. Also, ignore the haters and trolls about unediting and all that other stuff, you are a good shatter mes.

Thank you so much for your feedback! I learn something new every time I post a video. Vashury was actually my inspiration to start playing shatter Mesmer with a greatsword. I used to play the shatter cat build before that. The reason I use elasticity is for the extra bounce on mirror blade which adds to the overall burst potential by a significant enough amount that I prefer it over invigoration.

edit: you seemed to find lots of nice dueling opportunities, or was this like from days of footage? Maybe you’re on a good server with this kind of dueling culture? Last time I went wvw (I play on desolation), seemed like everyone just ran away from 1v1s or even 1v2s, the only ones who wanted to fight were the troll thieves with ~permanent invisibility.

I also roam in NA T1 so it is hard to find good duels. There are mostly zergs or “small” groups of 4-5 people. Luckily I ran into a few people from the other servers who love to duel and became friends with them. That is how I get most of my duels.

I see you are back. Well, heres goes nothing.

In your first fight you used decoy at a very interesting time and it almost led to you dying. You kinda got lucky in this fight, as that Mesmer could have easily interrupted you and you would have died.

In the second fight, that mirror blade blink was a little off but It didn’t really matter. Nothing to say here.

In the third fight with the perplexity mes, you should have waited a little longer before swapping to the ileap. The thief was also terrible.

In the fight against the thief, you got a little greedy with the immbo and should have just dodge mind wracked him instead of going for the mirror blade. You recovered well though.

Not much to say about bursting, its kinda obvious

Against that necro you used the best heal I have ever seen (at like 95% hp), so please don’t do that lol.

I couldn’t really point out any more obvious mistakes mainly because the opponents you were fighting were pretty terrible or you got better, probably a mix of both. Good vid!

Your playing looks fairly decent, though as Rylock mentioned…all of your opponents were patently awful. A couple things that I noticed:

You seemed to eat every single stun and every single rush from that skullcracker warrior. Facetanking a bunch of stuff like that is generally not the greatest idea, so you should probably work on watching animations and either dodging or interrupting them.

You should try and protect your heals more often when you’re fighting a class with a lot of interrupts (thief in particular). The thief you fought was awful at this, but a good thief would have interrupted quite a few of your heals with a daze steal or basi venom from stealth. Try and make sure that they’re either animation locked or otherwise occupied before healing.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll be sure to do that in future fights. Also to be fair, that warrior was very skilled at knowing when to use his interrupts and stuns.

It was his 4th ever vid, cut him some slack. Sure improvements could be made to the editing as nothing is ever perfect, but he did a good job and the gameplay was solid for what he was trying to showcase. If your not going to offer constructive criticism leave your negativity to yourself.

Some things you can do i try to get used to instant cast aoes. It really helps for blink and gs#3. Also, when a necro is in death shroud it is often a good idea to run / kite away to drain it. ^^ just some general stuff.
