Your screenshot shows a completed Hero Challenge, but Mastery Insight achievements are tied to Mastery Insights, which are not the same thing. Mastery Insights should show up on your map as a star. The burnisher quarry one is to the southeast of where you map shows, far enough away that you may not have realized it was still part of burnisher quarry.

precision bug

Are you a warrior with the deep strikes trait? I assumed that bug was fixed at some point, and don’t even remember what caused the game to lose count of how many signets you have active, but 1 signet is worth just under 2% crit chance at level 80, which matches the range you have seen. It also was definitely fixed any time you change maps. Since you gave absolutely no information about your build, that is a perfect match with the details you have provided.

If that is the source of your problem, then there is no need to change maps. Casting your signets so that they are all on cooldown at the same time should reset it, as you obviously cannot have -1 signets active.

If it is not the source of your problem, I recommend explaining how you are getting 89% crit chance so that each component can be checked for similar issues.

Do you really expect someone from Anet to come here and say:
Wow, thats a great idea, we will implement this some time in the future?

That’ll be the day. This is the only sub-forum that gets less dev feedback than WvW.

Praise the Day!
The first 5 pages of the BLTC forum got 17 topics with a red tag, the first 5 pages of the General Discussions Forum have 12 topics with a red tag.

I looked at the thread at the bottom of the 5th page.
BLTC: about a month old
GD: 3 days old

In other words, threads get buried around 10 times as quickly in GD as in this forum. That would suggest GD has approximately 7 times as much dev feedback to keep the thread ratio you listed, if seeing how many threads have red tags is even an accurate measure.

Teragriff - a step in the right direction

in Living World

Haaretram.6214

Do you guys realise that we don’t talk about 1 vs 1 here, player vs teragriff?

Actually, that is exactly what we talk about here. This thread is about the Mordrem Terragriff boss fought in one of the newest living story instances, which is one terragriff + some weak adds vs one player plus some weak npcs, with the option of bringing up to four more players in your party. If you want to talk about the normal terragriffs in the silverwastes, please find or create another thread, as they are completely off topic here.

On topic, I think the fight turned into a drag near the end. Not all ranged weapons can track fast moving foes very well, especially since the terragriff’s trail absorbs projectiles, so the fight becomes a long period of dodging followed by a window to unload some damage while the teragriff is stopped. But later on, the teragriff stops using it roots move, and switches to a wide AoE that gets stronger the closer you are to it. This makes it harder to take advantage of it being stopped, so the last portion of its health is slowly whittled down long after I have gotten the hang of dodging its attacks. What’s worse, there are skills designed to counter high mobility and create your own opportunity to attack, but the terragriff is flat out immune to all of them. I think the fight would have been greatly helped by a modified defiance system, so that players could create their own burn phases, but not often enough to ignore the rest of the encounter.

BLAST FINISHER

Haaretram.6214

I am referring to the 20% for the blast vs 12.5% for Regeneration. I am not seeing how 12.5 is ever a bigger number than 20.

Because 12.5 + 12.5 = 25.

When you use the projectile finisher, you get 2 seconds of regeneration. 1 second later, this regeneration heals you for 130 + 12.5% of your healing power. 1 second after that, it heals you for 130 + 12.5% of your healing power again. Then the regeneration boon ends. The total healing resulting from the finisher is therefore 260 + 25% of your healing power.
If you have +100% boon duration, the regeneration will last for four ticks, and therefore heal 520 + 50% of your healing power. Hence, way better scaling then the blast finisher, but much lower of a base value. In addition, you have to wait for the regeneration to take effect, which could take quite a while when you consider that healing spring also provides regeneration, and regeneration stacks duration.

the blast also scales better with healing power.

This is false. The scaling you see for regeneration is per second, and since the finisher starts at two seconds it scales better than the blast finisher to begin with. Getting +100% boon duration then doubles this scaling, making it scale way faster than the blast.

The end result is that with max healing power and boon duration, the regen is worth about 85% of the blast finisher, so the blast is still superior (unless you are triggering multiple projectile finishers). But that is a result of the huge difference in base values, not because of poor scaling.

Official Stance on AFKing?

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Haaretram.6214

Haaretram.6214

AFKing and Botting are separate issues. They can be combined, but one doesn’t mean the other is taking place.

You can AFK without a bot by just wiggling your character every 20 minutes or so.
On the other hand, you can use a bot to wiggle the character for you.

It would be difficult if not impossible for a player to tell the difference and properly report it.

We know that afking is not the same as botting. The point is that the list of options to report someone for is limited, so botting gets used as the “other” category. Here is an example where a dev said to use the botting option to report someone for an offence other than botting.
The question that remains is whether or not we should be reporting afkers at all.

EDIT: Found a case where they said to report afkers as botting, though it is in reference to PvP and so not entirely applicable.

Chest Looting Issue; Wallet Currency

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Haaretram.6214

Haaretram.6214

I even tried using the AOE loot function to no avail.

Yeah, AoE loot won’t help because it generally doesn’t take anything from chests, probably to prevent weird cases where people loot JPs through a wall. Instead, you want to enable the autoloot feature. It takes all items from a chest in one key press, has been around for much longer, and has worked whenever I have had problems getting fractal tokens or badges. The bug still needs to be fixed, but it is a good way to avoid losing hundreds of badges in the meantime.

Using VitalShot on Ambient put U in CM

Your explanation could be the reason but Orb of Wrath is not the only one that did it. Vital Shot always forced me into combat mode which it usually don’t.

Yes, there are plenty of skills that are bugged. I am simply saying that Orb of Wrath is probably not one of them, and VoJ is.

Haaretram.6214

If Orb of Wrath is only causing combat mode some of the time, then the culprit is probably virtue of justice. Every fifth attack causes a burning that puts you in combat mode (unlike some attack skills that always give burning but don’t force you into combat when used against an ambient). This means that using a different skill to kill them will not help you. You can shut off the passive for a bit by activating it, but the burning from the active will also put you in combat.

Bloodlust vs. Perception for my build

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Haaretram.6214

Haaretram.6214

The general rule of thumb that I have seen mentioned is that for pure damage, you should add as much power as you can and only take precision when it isn’t costing you power (for example, berserker’s gear has just as much power as any other power primary gear, so it is good. Assassin’s gear gets more precision then berserker’s at the cost of an equal amount of power, so it results in less damage). The only on-crit effect I see in your build is vigorous precision, which should trigger frequently enough already with your current 35% crit chance. So I would recommend the sigil of bloodlust.

60 times. There are 2 tiers of the achievement. First tier requires a single run for a single point. Second tier requires 20 (19 more), and gives 5 points. This creates the following progression:

Gold Selling Resurgence?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Haaretram.6214

what i don’t understand is how can they make a living, isn’t anet banning also the buyers? how people can trust buying from them? it isn’t that hardfor anet to ban them a mail from a suspicus account with 1000g atttached will definetly make some bells ring!

Suppose you receive the following mail one day:

Thank you SO MUCH for ressing me. Too many people these days just walk on by when a few seconds could make someone’s day. I think kindness needs to be more rewarding.

Attached: 1000 gold

I think many people in this situation would think that this person is way too rich, accept the money, buy a precursor, and get working on map completion. Banning people just for not looking the gift horse in the mouth does not create a happy player-base. And this WILL happen if Anet starts banning gold buyers, because that 1000 gold is worthless to gold sellers if they can’t find any buyers. It’s like giving out free samples, except that the people you are giving stuff to aren’t the same as the ones you are trying to attract.

tl;dr Gold sellers can make other people look like gold buyers pretty easily, so Anet cannot ban gold buyers. Gold sellers cannot make other people look like gold sellers, so Anet can ban them, but others have already explained why they do not care so much.

Skill points VS Trait points

in Suggestions

Posted by: Haaretram.6214

Haaretram.6214

Gaining trait points is a form of vertical progression. When a level 20 character has 5 more trait points than a level 15 character, there are multiple ways to spend those extra points, but no matter how it does so, it is strictly stronger than if it did not have or spend those 5 points. Gaining skill points is primarily a form of horizontal progression. Spending 30 skill points will teach my mesmer mass invisibility, but in order to use it I have to unequip time warp, and that may leave me less powerful overall.

Increasing vertical progression creates a grind where everyone rushes to be as powerful as possible so as to not be at a disadvantage. Increasing horizontal progression gives people something to aim for without leaving them at a significant disadvantage until they reach it.

Ultimately, gaining trait points is more similar to unlocking skill slots than to gaining skill points, and you’ll note that skill slots max out at level 30.

Ranger - Regeneration

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Haaretram.6214

30 points in Nature Magic gives +30% boon duration. 3 seconds base duration * 1.3 = 3.9 seconds of regeneration. This is closer to 4 then to 3 3/4, so the tooltip would probably round to 4 seconds. If regeneration provides healing every second (like how bleed works), it would still only provide three ticks of healing, and therefore heal the same amount as without the boon duration. However, it would not be any weaker, because it is still doing all that healing within the first 3 seconds – you just have an extra .9 seconds of having the buff but not receiving any healing in that time.

Valuable Metal Scrap to Orichalcum Ore

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Haaretram.6214

Haaretram.6214

I don’t know about metal scraps, but I did once find someone’s results in cloth salvage items. They got about 1.5 silk and .125 gossamer per salvage item. There’s no guarantee that metal would use the same rates, but they are the same tier of materials, and the fact that two different salvage items (rags and discarded garments) gave about the same results does lend credence to the theory of a common formula. Unfortunately, there were only numbers on using basic salvage kits. The poster claimed that higher kits would provide more gossamer, just a rate that would not make up for the increased cost of the kits at the time, but did not say what kind of sample size he used before concluding that, or how much of a difference he saw.

I.E. salvaging 10 scrap metals and getting mithril 9 times and 2 ori 1 time, doesn’t mean there’s a 20% chance of getting ori when salvaging, even though you got 2 ori out of 10 scrap metals.

This is true, but I think that average ori/scrap has a lot more practical use than %chance of getting ori. Ideally I would like to have both numbers available, but if I had to choose one I would prefer ori/scrap, and when testing with a sufficiently large sample size counting how many stacks of ori you end up with will be a lot easier then tracking each individual salvage.

Your car anology is just ridiculous. Nobody has taken the ring away from you. You still have the fully functional ring. Your account based magic find is more than amount lost on the ring. Your combat level is no worse than before.

I’ll give a hint here. When someone posts on a forum looking for sympathy and doesn’t get any, there’s no point arguing. That someone will get even less sympathy when they say they want more mf than other players (other forum readers) because they see the game as an adversarial rush for gold and loot.

The analogy isn’t ridiculous, it is simply focused on a single argument. Finding one that covers every aspect would be a waste, of time, since others have already explained why other factors are not a magic cure. But since you need a recap:

The OP does not still have a fully functional ring. He has a partially functional ring, whose benefits are 100% lost if he decides he would rather use a fully functional ring.

His account based magic find is not higher for having spent 35 laurels on the ring. Calling it compensation for the ring does not fit, because he could have not spent the 35 laurels and still ended up with same mf. He would have chosen that option of not spending (or spending them on other stuff), except that all available information at the time said that spending the laurels that way results in more mf then not doing so.

He bought that ring having determined that it would slightly reduce his combat ability in exchanged for some mf. Remove the mf with no compensation and he is left with a slightly reduced combat ability in exchange for nothing. His combat ability may not be worse then when he was using mf celestial ring, but that level of combat ability was only acceptable (to him) because it offered mf.

I am so sick of seeing this on the forums.

You got your use out of your magic find and any better drops. You do not need any more compensation. Reality is you got better drops regardless of how you want to paint the picture therefore you got your used out of the gear regardless of how you want to paint the picture.

You people continuing to ask for more compensation are just acting like spoiled entitled brats throwing a tamper tantrum and frankly it is making me sick.

I am so sick of seeing this on the forums.

Imagine you bought a new car for $10,000. two months later, the car company comes by and tells you they are eliminating all of their cars. So you ask them when you will get your money back.

“Refund? You used that car for two months. Reality is you got better transportation regardless of how you paint the picture therefore you got use out of the car regardless of how you want to paint the picture. Demanding a refund on top of that is like spoiled entitled brats throwing a tamper tantrum and frankly it is making me sick.”

Would you accept that argument? NO. You would point out that if you wanted two months of car use, you would have leased a car for $600 a month, ending up just over 1/10 what you paid. You would also point out that you would not have bought a two month lease intentionally, so even charging you $1200 is unfair. And any jury in the world would side with you.

These are virtual goods with no real money value, so there is no court; we have only ANET’s sense of fairness to appeal to. But the concept still applies. The OP bought a permanent mf item. Having temporary use out it is not worth the 110 laurels he paid.
