Showing Posts For Hak.9736:
After many years of playing games, some more successfully than others I have come to the conclusion I have lost my edge (if I have had once since I played Quake 3).
Yes that’s right. A self proclaimed noob.
I am looking to learn. I play Necro, but am willing to learn any class. I have just spent the longest time playing this one and know it better than any others. If their are any out there, I need a patient mentor willing to turn my tired kitten in to a mean green killing machine. (or supporting/controlling machine)
I need training in the fundamentals through to the tricks and tips someone with actual skill might have picked up. I am 28, male and er… passionate? Hmmmm ok, a little frustrated that I have not been picking this up well.
What can I offer in return? Very little. Someone to laugh at maybe. Is there anyone adult out there, EU time zone, works a job, anyone willing to lend a hand? To show me the way? —- Ok, enough of the dramatisation.
Sincerely
Azaan
Hak.9736 – ntw wells are attacks since they count for the sword kills…
Sword skills? Can you explain this? Necro doesn’t use a sword.
Logically Aegis is a boon but a boon that blocks the next incoming attack. Corrupt boon is a direct attack and therefore should logically be blocked.
Also, well of corruption isn’t a targeted attack. Wells work differently. This thread is about Corrupt Boon, not boon corruption.
Aegis is a boon yes? So it should be corruptible. The argument that is for aegis blocking is pretty weak when considering Well of Corruption can corrupt aegis. It blocks attacks, which is why it works against corrupt boon, because it registers as an attack.
Hell even the wiki has the condition aegis should turn into in a nice table, burning.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Corrupt_BoonI play a bunker guard a lot now when I’m not on my necro. Even if necros are the ultimate anti-guardian, a good guardian will eventually die to a good necro, but not until it holds out for a good while too. When this skill malfunctions, it’s basically a huge slap in the necro’s face.
I don’t know if you read through this but I started the post complaining that it doesn’t work and that it was required to help balance the current meta. So before you accuse me of being a guardian supporter and wanting to protect Aegis… don’t. I have a grand total of 0 games in PVP as a Guardian.
I do however think there should be timing and thought involved in the use of all abilities in the game and this is no exclusion. That should go beyond just waiting for the most boons to be up. You should have to check for Aegis, use an inexpensive ability to use it up with a low importance attack and then use corrupt boon on the rest. This would also give Guardians the opportunity to actively counter it with F3. Again, this would be fair as the CB cooldown is lower than Virtue of Justice and would be ‘buying the Guardian time’.
As for the table… great. Glad it exists but my opinion and reasoning (and it is an opinion) still stands.
Yeah but Aegis is a counter. If Aegis is up the player must use a skill to take it away and needs to look for the boon pre-cast. It is needed for balance.
Aegis should block it. But nothing else should. Even if it is on that list, though I did have trouble spotting it, it would be nice to have some feedback on a skill that could effect the ‘guardians are OP nerf’ threads.
It is the best skill in the game for dealing with the boon heavy classes dominating the game right now.
Ok, this has finally got to me. This ability works once every 50 casts. I can have an enemy player targeted. Endurance starved directly in front of me. No Aegis, in range. Cast it, nothing happens. Just a cooldown.
Fix it. If it’s just me, tell me what I am doing wrong because let me tell you, there is no consistency in it.
Despite this amazing game this failure inspires rage inside me towards ANet. Every feeling I have about their amazing game disappears and I am left wishing to hold the Necro dev hostage while he furiously tries to fix this skill. Luckily for me and my forum account I am mature enough to know it is just frustration and a momentary feeling, even if the feeling is immature.
Play another class? Use another skill? No. This one needs to work and soon. With the boons spamming superiority of Eles, Guardians, Engineers, Mesmers in PVP this skill needs to work EVERY TIME.
Could I please get a response on this?
I had some thoughts based on my experiences with lower level zones. I found as an 80 in rare gear mobs died too quickly and fights were not a challenge. I feel that downscaling needs looking at with a possible stat cap also applied based on the stats you could obtain in the zone at that level. Moving on from this I have another suggestion.
I had an idea that material gathering should just be harvesting ‘ore’ and ‘tree/wood’ (plants should be left as is. as zonal differences should count). The chance for specific kinds of ore would be based on a combination of player level and level of tool (which I believe has a level requirement anyway). This would make gathering in low level zones beneficial for higher level players and reduce the focus on being in Orr for gathering.
Example would be a level 80 player (now properly downscaled to meet challenges in lower zones) could approach a node in a starter zone and get mithril with a low chance of orichalcum using orichalcum tools but using the basic kit they would get copper. Lower level players couldn’t harvest high level mats because of the level restriction on the tools and exploring could be more consistent and less grindy.
OP – That was exactly the issue. Thieves weren’t having to use any skill. Hit 2 repeatedly until target was dead. The player base doesn’t mind getting beaten by someone who plays like a pro. What they don’t like is no skill mechanics that allow the vast majority of the player base to rerole a thief just for sPVP and instantly start racking up kills.
The adjustment – and it was an adjustment – was a fair one. The ability is still usable as a gap closer and still hurts like hell in that last 25% – which is where it is supposed to be used. As Zipper above me has said. SPVP is dominated by thieves and warriors.
The game won’t be for everyone. We all like different things. My Necro was 80 after week one as I had the week off work. I just started a Guardian and am really making the effort to take my time on this and see the detail.
Like the Norn start zone there is a man you can speak to in the centre and he sends you off to the shrines, never noticed him before, just ran to the hearts. I will be turning off the map details, hearts. POIs and just running around. If you don’t like what you are presented with, maybe this isn’t the game for you.
There is no shame in having an opinion. Fingers crossed you find something more suitable.
In my experience, downscaling isn’t powerful enough. My 80 Necro has about 1300 condition damage. When I go to low level zones things just melt. It isn’t remotely as challenging as I would like it to be. While I could get some lower level gear, I would say it isn’t needed. Some tweaks to the maths or some additional factors could do the same job.
I fully understand that things working for me include a full set of abilities, having better knowledge of my class and better experience with playing in general but I would like it to be harder when I go back to explore low level zones.
