Hello.
During the last weeks pvp has been unplayable for me. Pings between 300-1000 is not fun. Me no IT-pro. Tracert shows packageloss at nc-soft-servers only.
Any idea how to deal with it?
Filed a ticket; in contact with support.
Dunno if it has anything to do with it, but closely before i wasn’t able to start or participate in any pvp-match, i got strange ingamemail from system about a scholar aiti, telling me about a title i accidently got and which got removed again (ddnt notice any of it).
Lets see when/if i be able to do pvp again…
Update:
still can’t enter unranked arena.
and another thing: if i am in a party, then teammates can’t start a match either. if i leave, then they can start a match.
Nope, my pvp window just stays the same old.
Since yesterday, i can’t start any pvp-match. Clicking unranked doesn’t do anything. Not getting any errormessages or whatsoever. Anybody got the same problem, or a way to fix it?
the message is easy from anet:
certain unique pets and their mechanics are only available for people who like hamsterwheels and got 2 or 3 hours lifetime to waste infront of a pc. and it is ofc only affecting rangerclass.
if you are not that type of gamer, and/or enjoy other parts of the game like wvw, then there is no need to buy that expansion.
i knew that with hot there would only be pvE-stuff added to the game, but how could i have known there would be pvE-gated content. oh wait….
(edited by Haudruff.7804)
wow. so many weeks and patches and healingspring still doesnt heal pet nor allies.
Patch came out, fixed nothing.
Yeah, Healing Spring still not working, won’t heal pet. I bet anet will “fix” it by removing the description “heals allies and pet”. With all the remaining bugs, huge balance-issues and no reaction from anet going on, i wonder how they will make me buy the xp at all?
healing spring still bugged and doesn’t heal pet.
- Healing Spring doesn’t heal pet
- Natural Healing (trait) only heals pet, not ranger (intended?) and won’t show in combat log.
i am pretty disappointed with the “tons of news”.
no comment about other game-modes, no comment about implementing “guild-wars” into guildwars2. i had looked forward to this news, had hoped that the news will make me log into gw2 again and really enjoy it. i am tired of playing games with vertical-gear-progression-threadmills, hamsterwheels, grind, and no pvp. time to move on.
and noobish me, thought they changed these tooltips. tested it, it doesnt scale.
mods, pls close and/or remove thread.
…or is it removing the bleeds one applies on mobs? oO
I appologize if i have overread it in patchnotes.
in pvp pets attacks (white dmg and condi-dmg) seem to scale with ranger-stats (amulett), at least the tooltips say so.
is this true, is it a bug? and if its true, does pet’s health and armor also scale with rangers corresponding stats?
@OP
I understand your reaction, but all the horses left the barn. There is nothing left, all the possible rangers builds have been systematically nerfed […]
well, i got at least 1 or 2 builds left that r great for tpvp. they have been there from the start of the game. i can win most 1v1s if not all on these builds. (not claiming that i am an awesome player or what, the build and my playstyle is “just” enough to beat ppl at tpvp-lvl). but, and that is my point, i am not going to post or promote them ever on these boards. lesson learnt. and i think a lot of ppl will feel and do the same, this does matter not only to rangers.
i am quiet upset about what has happened to spirit-rangers. the problem i see there is not the nerf itself -though it made spirits totally useless in every area of the game.
the problem is that encouraging ppl to think out of the box, to advertise their own unique builds they have found, which they present to community at these boards is being punished.
a short history:
since beta and start of the game, everyone and their mother whined about how useless spirits r for rangers. most ppl didnt play them at all for nearly one year. a few ppl who came up with their own ideas of building and playing came up with spirit-builds for rangers they liked and that worked for them.
and then they did something, which has to be seen as a big mistake from now on: they presented their stuff to the community, wrote and explained their builds at these boards.
and time after time more players tried these builds and found out of a sudden, that they work and r doing good. though nothing had changed in this time since start of the game at all concerning spirits and their mechanics (same for bunker rangers btw, but they r still working, despite some nerfs).
and all of a sudden stuff happened, that always seem to happen here: others got killed by a rising amount of spirit rangers in pvp. and ofc, since most players cant come up with their own ideas how to deal with them (like with building a spirit ranger before), they whined at these forums. and instead to give it some time, so ppl know how to deal with spiritrangers, some “dev” listened to them and nerfed spirits into uselessness.
so why would anybody ever post a “niche”-build again, that is not flavor-of the-month/year and unusual? ….chance is that it will get popular and nerfed into total uselessness (for every part of the game, not only pvp).
This is great in two ways:
1) It showes that the majority of nonranger-crybabys should learn to play.
2) It showes to the majority of ranger-crybabys that spirit-builds r ok and not bad. Btw, nothing was changed to them really. Reminds me on the wave of crying bout Beastmasters being useless at start of game. And then, ofc while nothing changed from anet’s site, ppl discovered that Beastmasters r so good, that they even got nerfed now.
Maybe at some point ppl will discover that the bows on ranger are actually usefull weapons and it is possible to pewpew from distance. oO
I am also very disappointed. No GvG in gw2. No perspective. Nothing.
PvP is only capture the point, thats it. No added content there, instead content was removed (tourneys).
It seems we won’t get a reply from anet. They seem to be busy adding new PvE-content to the PvE-game that has nothing to do with guildwars.
It would be at least nice to get a reply from them like: “no, everything is going on as intended…”. Since them answering won’t happen, their silence is answer enough.
Just wanted to say thank you for sharing your build.
It is always great to see ppl develop their own builds, actually think for themselves and make their builds work. That is really missing for the most at these forums, but i am not going to rant over that (sry btw for my english).
The build itself is also great working imo, it “just” needs training. It is not a typical caster-build or -playstyle, which is good and more challenging. Meself did some “adjustments” which just suit me better, i swaped some traits and such, but the core remains. Again, thx
This is really important. I demand new armor skins for Norns.
Especially male-Norn are in a bad shape when it comes to clothing. We are Norns. We don’t need clothes to cover our skin when its cold, like all the weaklings out there -Charr, Human, Asura and Silvari. We don’t freeze. But for Norns there is always to much skin covered by armor. Only some cultural armors do the trick here, but its only these and they have some clipping issues.
Anet, you don’t need to create new sets from scratch. They are already ingame, but we can’t get them. Like this one:

I am pretty shure there are the correspnding ones for bear, wolf and snow leapard as well, but to lazy to find them.
Why can’t we -thats us Norns- wear these?
edit: seems that raven didn’t bless me with the knowledge of proper image-posting…
Raven for my ranger: “There is a time for action and a time for thought”. Strengh and dexterity are worthless without wisdom and thought. Apart from that raven can always fly away when things get out of control and they are companions to the God of my fathers fathers, Wotan. So all in all raven seems to be a perfect fit.
..just wanted to add that nothing has changed so far. got the same lag problems as before. (german user here)
Same (German user).
No fps-issue, and internet is fine, too.
The game is unplayble, especially in dungeons (had to stop); had skill and chat lag up to over 10s lag spikes.
had that some days before also.
Did the “new”/revamped AC-explo today. Path 2. And experienced horrible lag in there. Got lagspikes between 5-30s, especially during Spider and Kholer. Even Dethas traps lagged. It was unplayble.
Had nearly no lag while thrashing trash. Had no lag before this dungeon (did SE right before, no lag), had no lag afterwards. FPS was “as usual”.
Had the same experience before doing AC p2 post-patch. 2 out of 2 times it was a lagfest. Only in that dungeon.
Any advice (apart from not going in there again)?
…imo post-patch-AC could be very much fun without lag, but this way its unplayable…
@awesomesauce.5980
Yes, i guess we all know there r bugs. Yes, we all know about anets “handling” in correcting issues where we might think they could be solved fast and are easy to see. Won’t argue here, i holeheartly agree with u.
And yes, i would love to see some pet-skills thought over. Some r useless.
And i would love to have more options for petcontrol then just active/passive and attack/retreat/switch.
BUT: in generell, the mechanics r good. This pet here is not like the wow-hunters-pet. This “pet-class” here is not easymode. This pet here is not over the top, and shall never be. It dies were a player dies, it can’t stand in AOEs where no player would survive a second. It doesn’t deal a huge amount of dmg, so it could do all the dirty work for u. Thats why i like.
And if one learns and trains more and more, gets more skilled in using their pets, selecting them, then they r a very valueable companion, a lifesaver or enemykiller. But i guess u know that
Same goes for weaponpowers: i love the ranger weaponskills. No, i dont use SB much, its not fun for ME (standing/kiting and pew pew is not my thing). I love the versality the weaponskills offer compared to lets say warrior or thief. Ofc this depends on preference and style. (The reason why i choose ranger was because of their sword, dagger and GS-skills. And its awesome. I love the synergies they offer with the rangerprofession and traits. And no, they r not offensive synergies for most.)
For spirits: its the same with them what goes for pets: why should they survive AOEs where any player would die in? That would be to easy, to wow-ish (lol). I agree, one may look into their buff-cooldowns, their mobility-trait should be placed not at the end, but maybe at 20 points. It would be great if one could have more control over their spirits, more options how they should move. BUT still: if traited and played right, spirits r not garbage.
What i would love to see for a start: when we dodge (or maybe even evade with weaponpowers), our pets and spirits should also dodge. More options to control both. Even an option to “store” them in combat. But hell, thats another thread…^^
(edited by Haudruff.7804)
The OP stated that rangers r so bad. Others including meself stated that rangers r good. The reason why “we” post here is to show others, which might be interested in rolling a ranger, that there r lots of ppl out there that r not crying.
Rangers r only at first look an easy class -ranged dmg, with a pet. Oh well, in other mmos that was always easymode. Here this playstyle is not working, thank God (or devs). But if u get over easymode, actually think, learn, train, use your brain, then ranger will be as effective as any other profession. That is why we post here.
Healing spring was one example. U have a signet which lets you remove all of the grps conditions. U have pets which do AOE-crowd-controls -they help a lot. Traps also r good for AOE-ground-control. Entangle-Elite, another lifesafer for a grp. Spirits -if played right (not many do, most rangers r pew-pew-shortbow-canons, no wonder why they fail), a big plus to the hole grp all the time. Spirit of Nature-Elite. Another great addition…
U might wanna take a look at wiki for rangerskills and traits…
And what? Which consumables heal allies for a good amount like while they stand in healing spring area, and give them a good amount of regen, with a relativ short cooldown, and let u use healing-combos on them? Pls post them here!
Good thread.
condition removal
Sometimes rangers have problems with conditionremoval. If u really get killed by them in spvp/wvw a lot, then here are 3 ways how to deal with them:
1) Brown Bear Pet. Shake It Off clears one condition.
2) 30 Points into wilderness-survival-trait line, Empathic Bond removes ALL conditions on yourself every 10 s if your pet is alive. Even in spvp i take a bear with me, cause they r hard to bring down and most time ignored. That ensures that i have a pet up so conditions are removed.
3) Signet_of_Renewal.
…u can get lots of health regen as a ranger, if specced so. That also helps a lot against burning, bleeding, poison…
handling of red circles
In dungeons, spvp, wvw u might have trouble with enemy’s AOEs. Ofc u can kite them, but as a melee-ranger, there is a way to still deal dmg without getting hit. Sword and dagger combo. If u see those red circles (think about TA-explo, those vines), u can evasion-dmg the mob for some time without taking care to escape. use sword3, dagger4 and sword2 in a row in whatever order, without a delay in time (its possible, not that hard, even with worse connections), and u will jump and dance around, attack but not been hit.
pvp, small scale
Get at least one dog, set on active. Every thief that jumps on you will get knocked down, enough time for u to react and kill it -or make him leave at least. Chilling howls for escaping or decreasing dmg. Wolf-fear is awesome: if your enemy is on low health, but might heal up again (like a guardian does…), fear him. 2,5s disabled, while u can continue to hack him down.
pet-managment
In dungeons, wvw, and spvp, watch what your pet is doing, have an eye on its healthbar. Heals u have also heals them. Call em back -yes, use that F3-button during a fight! And Let em attack anew if they r back on health again. Switching pets before it dies prevents longer cooldown. Don’t expect your pet to be tougher then yourself! If you know u have to stay ranged, no need to send your pet in. Set it on passive, or choose a ranged one. Dont expect even a bear to survive what kills a guardian within seconds.
Chilling howls r great for escaping a mob, or decreasing the dmg u get.
Me is also a ranger, though not a glasscannon-SB-pew-pew-build. I have never experienced during any dungeon-runs (explos) that a profession was looked down upon.
On the other hand, ppl usually like that i am kind of an evasion-tank thats not to easy to bring down, that i still dish out ok dmg, and that my healinspring is perfect for grps and one if not the best heal ingame. Leaping into that (which i usually do) also helps -heals!
Not ingame atm, so just “out of my head”. What “my” build can do to get escaping players apart from GS-swoop is cripple with GS4, then change to sword+dagger (if enemy is close enough he gets frozen by sigil of hydromancy), use dagger5 (another cripple with 900 range me thinks) and hope that signet of hunt and/or elite (swiftness) is up and enough. But a very fast ele or thief may still escape, its not perfect. Anyhow, imo not every profession should be able to get others by default, on the other hand some of those “runners” r maybe a bit over the top. Anyhow, i dont care -let them run away, killshot is not that important then holding a point in spvp or a camp in wvw.
“My” ranger-build (pure melee) is especially made for 1v1, and very sucessful there. Be it spvp or wvw -on the other hand he does close to none aoe-dmg.. Imo rangers r one of the strongest 1v1-professions, though u might have trouble catching every enemy that runs away, other professions do that job better. It all depends on your profession-build. They can be so different, depending on what u build it for and how u feel comfortable with it. E.g. a ranger putting more then 10 points into skirmishing traitline cant expect to be good in 1v1 for most builds. Everything, skills, weapons, traits, choice of pets, stats on gear is important ofc, and shapes the build into what direction to take. Ranger has a bigger and better set of tools to counter and deal with any build/profession out there then most classes, especially lets say warriors.
Ppl mentalities seem to be the biggest problem. In wow e.g., u had no problem joining a random dungeon-grp as healer or tank. As dps sometimes it took an hour. But still -did ppl rolled more healers/tanks? No! They stayed on their dps-classes. Sadly, most players want to see big numbers and do mindless bashing. That excludes any skill for most, but thats how the majority of players seem to be like.
In guild wars 2, where there is no “holy trinity” -thank God this artifitial c*** for “less skilled gamers” wasnt implemented here- there is still a wide range in any profession between pure dmg/classcanon over balanced builds to more support/healish/less dmg. And guess what most ppl roll? They want big numbers, they want mindless playing. And so they come and cry that “their” class, which was never designed to be on the burst-site of this game, doesnt give em big numbers. And ranger is one of such class. It is more balanced, even a bit more on the defensive site. That applys especially for spirits. One has to think a lot where and how to place them, where to position yourself and so on. Running mindless into a mob/zerg and then wondering why they die just like yourself doesnt work.
But learning how to manage spirits (and pets) is not that easy, but rewarding, though. Learn, try, find out, trial&error. And again, thats good. Ranger in gw2 is and should never be an easymode pet/spirit-class for the mindless.
(edited by Haudruff.7804)
Well, in Ultima Online or Shadowbane there were ranger classes, but none of those were bow-exculsive. Problem is that “most other mmos” r derived from a certain comic-style-mmo, and thank god that gw2 is (still) different
Finally a thread on the ranger-forums that is not all about crying, but even goes into the opposite direction!
I also want to “raise” my voice and shout out loud that rangers are far away from being “crap” or an underpowered profession. Ofc there are issues with some traits, utilities and skills, they have to be fixed, but hey, other professions have these as well.
In spvp and wvw i am using a full-melee-ranger, with GS and sword+dagger. He does great! Ok, while attacking some castles or defending them, i might switch to long bow, but again, every other profession should use more then 1 or 2 weaponsets to grow to its full potential. Especially in small scale situations or 1v1 “my” rangerbuild excels -because i made it like that.
In dungeons i go with a sb most times instead of the GS. Not because GS is bad, but because u need in general one ranged weapon for these, or lets say, its much easyer in dungeons (explo) to go ranged then all-time-melee, especially with the SB. Though the more experience i get, the better i get in going full melee on most bosses…
What bothers me most at these boards are those players that want the ranger to take a different role then anet has given them. Most here seem to read ranger as archer, and expect burst-like dmg. Get over it. Thank the devs ranger is not only good on bows -though our SB is an awesome weapon in pvp and pve, it requires the least skill to master of all our weapons and is very “beginner”-friendly, the ranger is also good on other weapons. And second, rangers are not for people that want to see biggest numbers. Rangers have a lot of defensive potential. Most ppl seem to ignore that.
Pets are also great. Ofc there r some bugs, some things which could work better. But the concept, the idea and their mechanics r good. One has “just” to recognize that they r no invulnerable npcs that are doing the dirty work for you. Like “i send my pet on u, and bamm, u r dead. Ha, i have so much skill…”. Get over that. U need to control them. U need to know when to call em back out of a fight -especially in dungeons or wvw. U have to watch them, what they do. And u have to use them right. Their utility is much more important then their dmg. From that perspective, they are not that easy to use, but that is just good. Rangers in gw2 are not another petclass for the easymoders.
Mike O’Brien:Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games – we leave the grind to other MMOs.
http://venturebeat.com/2012/05/21/guild-wars-2-interview-monetization/#s:guildwars2-16
Colin Johanson:The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too.
http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success
Mike O’Brien:I would also like add that we have never said there would be no vertical progression. We do intent to focus on horizontal but we will have vertical progression moving forward with the focus on zero grind and a very low power curve.
.. ja, just LOW,
but threadmill we never ever would install to the game…
Some positiv feedback: i am thankful for this statement. It can’t get more clear. What more proof is needed that anet did a 180° turn. Manifestos negation. Saying one thing at the start and admitting to do the opposit after…everyone knows how to call that. On one hand i am sad, cause i thought “them” to be different, on the other hand it’s speculations end. Now players can choose without not knowing how this game will evolve.

+1 to OP, well written, Sumii.
I just don’t get it, how they seem to not know about the PR-desaster, since cause it can’t be silenced. hell, anet is an IT-company, and not a cart-horse-seller from the 18th century, anet should know about inet and stuff…^^
Hi fellow forum-ers,
Recently, after FotM came out, I have extremely scaled back my time spend in GW2.
So I would like to ask:
1. Who here, still come to forums but play the game much less?
2. When did you start playing less?
3. Why / What caused the decline in time spent?
1. Me. Actually before the negation of anets manifesto i spend close to no time in forums, i read some announcements, posted a little in class-forums, but that was it. Now i read and post much more.
2. Exactly after manifestos negation. Sometimes i still log into game, but just wvw, play some, but then i think “its all for naught”and log off.
3. Anets 180° turn. Now when i log in, if i log in, i think: “the day is near, where u have to grind for better gear, to stay on even lvl stat-wise, and this day will come again and again” and then i usually i am done and log off. It completly took the fun away.
gw1 is a pvp game.
shadowbane was THE pvp-game (RIP).
ultima online was to a certain degree kind of a pvp game.
wow is no pvp game, never was and never will be. its a pvE game with some small added pvp-content. add all the clones there.
gw2 is not really a pvp game. i liked it still, cause wvw was fun for a while. (now the fun is over for me, cause of the added hamsterwheel).
i guess -and thats meant without any offense- companies can make much more money out of pve-players, since most of them fall into the hamsterwheel/grind-category. us pvpers will leave at the hint of that, which is happining here already. we want to start with exact same stats, at even lvl, and then theres skill- and not stat-progression.
or in other words: the wow-formula is accepted by a big lot of players, be it cause they like it or be it cause they r conditioned to it, that doesnt matter. so there’s a big grp of players where companies know how to place the bait.
for the other grp, us pvpers: its much more risky, cause one has to develop new, prolly more unique concepts how to get us, u need good ideas, new ideas. i can understand that most companies won’t even try to touch that.
and sry for my english, non-native here, i used to play cards during english lessons in school.
Anet broke off the relationship. You’re hurt. Confused. You want to know what happened, what went wrong. Like any relationship gone bad, does it really matter in the end? Just time to move on……they have, and so should you.
ha! that forced a sardonic smile upon my face. ;S
No. No. No.
i guess this thread will be closed as well. then another thread will pop up and so on…until anet’s core-supporters won’t care anymore and r gone. happy wow-player-hunting, no more money from me for anet.
Hey, I’ve got the top three blogs at http://www.MMORPG.com right now, and theyr’e all about this (yes, I’m Meleagar):

Please go in and upvote them. Feel free to cross post them at other sites. Maybe we can turn up the heat enough to get something done about this.
And this is what I was afraid of. This is going to continue and that will only increase the disappointment and anger. It will also put off potential new customers – some people do not buy products that have a lot of negativity surrounding it.
I found similar information calling them out on betraying their original product design and vision. Now more of the gaming media is doing it. This is not going to end. I watched the whole Bioware debacle this year. The negativity turned from ME3 to Bioware. Now look at that company. Its had significant layoffs in its SWTOR division and its original founders have left. Worse its loyal core base is pissed off.
Change in a product is not bad. Creating feelings of betrayal, frustration in your customer is bad. People who bought this game because Arenanet said it would have no gear stat progression feel betrayed. And I want to emphasize that it is “people who bought this product because they knew it would have no gear stat progression and they agreed with that” that are having the strongest negative reaction. They are customers who just had the product they bought radically changed.
Said this before. How do you think Call of Duty customers would feel if they suddenly removed 1st person view and changed it to 3rd person to appeal to a different audience? Or if Super Mario brothers changed from 2d to 3d because people love 3d now.
It’s all over the internet. On the biggest German guildwars-community-sites it’s the number one topic as well, with the same reactions like in this thread.
As of Now
“This is just the beginning. In November, we’re only adding the first level of Infusions and Ascended Rings and Back slots, so that leaves us a lot of room to build upon these levels of Item progression in future content. As we release more new end game content in the future, you’ll see more Infusions and Ascended item types being added to the game. Eventually, you’ll be able to kit yourself out with a full set of Ascended gear and high end Infusions to help give you the edge in end game content.”

Quoting Anet. That’s a no, no! Infraction incoming!
Uhm…one can get infraction for just quoting for what they said? Why?
Usually i laught at conspiracy theories. But i can’t deny that there r lots of evidences here… ;( Apart from those 3 things mentioned here, what strikes me most is the silence.
They don’t answer, they dont react. They must be watching these forums, since they answer in other threads about this and that and whatnot. But this is the longest thread ever, a complete negative reaction on their “new”? idea. And nothing was heard, though we r the ones they get the money from and will leave…
-echoes r the answers, and silence speaks the thruth- (quotes from a band i love^^)
since my post was removed from mods, i still will add my voice.
i have a life (friends, family, jobs,….), i have other hobbies. i liked (yeah, its past-time) what anet promised about no hamsterwheel, no geargrind.
that your SKILL actually matters and decides about success in the game and not THE AMOUNT OF TIME you spend there to be competitive because of gear-grinding, like in all those wow-clones, where gear is all that matters. i liked that in gw2 the endgame was not about to get better gear to kill hard boss to get better gear to kill next harder boss to get better gear to kill…
well, thats over and done. when, and its a “when” and not an “if” they introduce better gear with the stats my toons use, then i am out. i wont play anymore, i wont buy gems. i wont try to drag other ppl into that game. i guess i just wont log in anymore like all the others here. then anet will have lost their playerbase. those ppl who like gw1, those who liked gw2.
dear anet, sry for my english, its not my native, and happy wow-playerhunting,
sincerely yours, a soon to be former customer.
well, there r also two utility skills which can give u (with right trait spec) 5s pure invulnerability with another 6s if pet is alive. add a conditionremoval (trait or utility or both) and there we go…add toughness, healingpower if u like, the right heals and pets and u have a ranger which can really take a beating without even doding or evading a lot.
my build is tanky, but i guess after reading this thread i am going to make such a build, thx for the reminding ;D
as Zysmon stated, he wants sword as just a nice utility for his bow spec.
thank the devs sword is one of the best weapon the ranger has with a unique set of skills.
problem seems to be that players who r used to faceroll-combos have trouble using sword. u actually need some skill to use it. i cant decide which is better skill, #2 or #3, i acually think it’s #2…u can use it for evasion of burst attacks (watch warrior or thief hit the air) and then jump back into fight, u can use it to evade back, heal, continue fight, or evade back, heal, run away, after leaping back u can use for example another weapon skills at save distance (e.g. dagger #5) then leap back or run away, u can use it for fast change of targets at longer distances…it goes on and on and on.
ofc for that u need to watch enemyplayer and use right timing, know what they r doing, have some knowledge of classes…it is not this mindless “oh, 1200 distance, now i press all my buttons on bow and cry afterwards why enemy is not dead…”
What I’d like to see is #1 not rooting anymore, #2 being a forward leap, that then changes to a back leap, and #3 completely changed, since it cannot hit moving targets at all.
That way you can leap at your target, pop your cooldowns and traps, and leap back again away from your target, to switch to your bow. Now you get much better combat flow.I suggest changing #3 into a skill that does considerable damage, to use after leaping to your target and inflict high damage, and then leap away again to avoid getting hit. Now you have a great flow of melee skills to use between shooting at your target from a range.
Shoot at your target from range > leap into melee > unload your #3, cooldowns and traps > leap back out > return to shooting from a range.
NO!!!
ok, i see things from pvp-perspective, spvp mainly, but also wvw. #1 could be “fixed” that u dont have to remove autoattack…BUT: #2 and #3 r what makes sword the awesome choice for pvp. its 2 evades! just dont use sword as a mindless buttonsmash faceroll weapon, than ofc it doesnt work. use your brain, watch enemy, then #2 and #3 is what makes u win against most melee out there, epecial thieves and warriors…
but i think u r seeing ranger as only something that uses bow, which is utterly wrong, so u try to fit melee-weapons into that concept. thank the devs its not so.
how about these changes to shortbow, cause we want shortbow be more useful for combat flow: #1 higher dmg but with 110 range; #2 block the next incoming melee attack and knockdown foe with bow-smash (80 range); #3 shoot at your target, cripple for 2 sec , leap to target, range 1200; #4 reflect projectiles, range 110; #5 smash your bow above enemyhead, crippling for 5 sec, 110 range
now u have a great flow of bow skills to support melee-ranger-builds, and bow becomes usefull for us rangers again. thats the same argueing u used…

Thats true. On the other hand imo:
1) pets r for utility, not for dps
2) if they’d attack much faster, it would be op, since it is an AI and not players skill that does dmg. ofc one can argue about balancing, that a “little” faster wouldnt be too bad, but pets should never be THE dmg-source for a ranger, since what i wrote -they r AI-controlled…
