If you arent using staff as your secondary weapon on condi, then I’d assume you’d be using a shortbow in which case you dont even need to go charging into combat. You may just be looking at the spec in one dimension.
Welp there are a few reasons.
1) Pyre disapproved of the Flame legion but became a rebel. Kalla restored female charr as equal to males, united the other legions against the flame legion and ultimately removed the caste system.
2) Pyre uses a LONGBOW not a hornbow or shortbow and like greatswords they tend to be direct damage. Kalla uses a shortbow for the legend which is typically condi (no idea way cuz in the black citadel her statue has a greatsword but hey she was a ranger so it was probably a weaponswap)
3) I honestly think Anet are trying to make the heavies different, ATM they are basically direct damage. Guardian is a bit more defensive while Warrior is offensive while Revanant feels like at least you tried. I just think they WANT revs to go condi to feel different and most likely they realize that the class is SUPER boring when you are using direct damage EG. glint/shiro > in glint turn on buffs and press sword 1 till no energy, switch to shiro turn on attack speed press sword 1. oh a break bar staff 5. it really doesnt have much to do and just feels bland. Hopefully tuesday makes changes but I doubt it
Ignoring the lack of mobility of revenant, the issue I have with base rev is the lack of swiftness. the 33% ms thing is pretty much a norm right now but if we remove Herald from build, the only way we can get swiftness is either Dwarf stance or trait Invoc. Unless Renegade has a swiftness utility/trait I find it really hard to move away from Herald especially on a condition mallyx/renegade
Doesnt really matter now, mounts fix any class that wants / needs swiftness. I dont really have to think about speed so kalla become viable and better yet i don’t have to play a kittened boon bot. At first a was really against kalla but im realizing that they just want revanant to be a condi option for heavies. Maybe that’ll change with balance changes coming in tomorrow but I highly doubt much will change.
Basically this … if your looking direct damage isnt much more on this class
https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_S/A
Kind of true, Herald is way too good to put away. They should let us trade this one for Ventari instead.
you need to join Anet’s design team like right now, ventari is so useless in pve.
Hi ya! Im a returning player who’s many is a revanant i was pretty well geared (full berzerkers and legendary sword). I just dont really know where to go in the game anymore. Ever since I crafted my legendary I dont feel like there is anything left for me to do really. So how do i get back into it? Do i go farming if so where? Dungeons are dead from what i understand. Fractals?? Raiding?? IDK help please im so lost. Any guidance is appreciated.
They have the same number of weapons on land as Thief.
Revenant = Sword mainhand, Sword offhand, Mace Mainhand, Axe Offhand, Staff, Hammer, Whatever they get from elite spec
Thief = Sword main hand, Pistol Mainhand, Pistol Offhand, Dagger Mainhand, Dagger Offhand, Shortbow, Whatever they get from elite spec
True, but unlike Thief, they lack the ability to swap around their healing, utility and elite skills, they’re all locked to whatever the Revenant is channeling, which makes the class less diverse.
My logic is more choice of weapons to offset the lack of playstyle customization given by the class mechanic.
Thats one view point but as soon as you get into combat you begin to have more versatility than a thief because of your legends and weapons swap you can change all of your utilities and even you elite in combat. Revenant is posing itself to one of most complex classes in gw2 similar to good mesmers, elemenalists and thieves. The only thing the class need was in fact weaponswap and now that it has been implemented it is in a very strong place. It has access to 20 skills in combat and is the only class that can have two elites because of the stances. If it doesnt fit your playstyle dont play it but dont say they lack diversity.
New legendary precursors and pre-precursors
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Hitomi Shadowleaf.5629
I’d really like this answered by the devs. The new legendary crafting system is a great way to create legendaries but im wondering are the new precursor / preprecursors going to be ascended or are they going to retain exotic status like the vanilla precursors?
I feel the need to plead with Anet NOT to add melee staves into the game. Ever.
The staves we have right now are basically decorative 2 handed foci/scepters and are simply not designed realistically to be used in melee combat.
First and foremost, look up the Bo staff. That is a real combat staff, a straight stick. That is all a martial staff should ever be. At the very most it may have metal bits on the end, but otherwise it MUST be a balanced and boring and otherwise plain as plain can be, long rod.
Adding ANYTHING more to said rod in melee combat removes all reason to keep calling it a martial staff. That extra anything, wherever and whatever it may be, instantly changes how the weapon must be wielded. And thus, polearms.
There are examples of casters in other games using polearms in place of staves, characters with magical affinity using spears/javelins and other weapons in conjunction with magic, and now lately, they just announced the Guardians will have a magical attack that uses a spear as its projectile animation.
Adding polearms eventually will solve the issue of our current staff selection being overwhelmingly too ornamental and imbalanced to make working melee weapons, and will add a weapon type that easily crosses borders between magic and non-magic users.
Adding melee moves onto staves now, however, would have Anet adding everything they need for a polearm weapon type into their game now, and poorly jury rigged to a selection of weapon skins that don’t fit the bill properly.
So I plead: Don’t make the melee staff mistake now, it will be irreversible. Wait for polearms and do it right.
I see you made an entirely new thread with your opinion here. I replied there too, but figured I’d do so here as well. I can see that you believe the only viable “melee staff” is a plain stick due to the laws of physics and how a bo staff is typically wielded. Although I do not disagree with you, there are a number of appropriate staff skins to be wielded. However the primary opposing argument to this is simple:
- Look at the existing skins we have for GS and Sword. Most of them are extremely awkwardly balanced to the point of being completely useless in combat (and some are wooden or even rubber).
-There are a large number of bows that could not function within the laws of physics.
-There are a few dagger skins that are held backwards (meaning all attacks would hit the enemy with the hilt).
- Many of the more decorative skins across the board look like they’d shatter if ever used properly (The Moot comes to mind as one).
- Finally, don’t get me started on how I can fire an obvious six-shooter hundreds of times without ever reloading.I’m not saying all of these things are horrible or should be changed. I’m just saying that if you want to limit one weapon (melee staff) to realism and physics, then you can’t exclude all the other weapons from such logic. Personally I’m all for these things in a game, including the melee staff.
GIVE THIS MAN A COOKIE!
With the skills we have seen in the game already Sword is very likely to be the main weapon revs will use at least in PvE zerker. This whole GS debate I say let the devs keep greatsword off rev. too many classes have it already ( 4 atm and 5 when HoT drops) I don’t see a need for it on this class. Honestly I think it would only serve to kill the feel of the class which seems to be that its an unconventional heavy armor class kinda of like mesmer. I dont want to be another heavy class that is forced into using GS cuz its best in slot (and that is always the case, its never as simple as dont use it. If you see a S/S warrior in your dungeon group you kick them. GS/Axe/Mace or go home or a guardian who doesnt have GS equiped at all. The same concept applies.) Im sick of everyone having to use greatsword and i’ve been dying for a class other than mesmer that has a real use for sword and dont use thief as an example because if you arent running D/D/SB you are doing it wrong. That is how every dungeon group works in PuGs.
Ranger 2.0 kicking ranger further out of the meta! but seriously doesnt looks all too exciting but i guess we’ll see for sure tomorrow on the live stream

I feel like revenant maystill get a ranged weapon , I’d be happy to see one. Give A heavy class a short bow maybe ? Lol
…… hammer is a ranged weapon on revenant ….
Why are all of you wasting time with this idiot? After all of this time he has yet to say what he wants to see in the game to make it “not grindy”. He only said “i just dont want to feel like a robot while playing the game.” that sounds like a problem for a shrink to handle not Anet’s dev team and not this forum. You all have made valid points as to why GW2 isnt grindy but he will always find a fault. If you say it takes 2 weeks to hit 80 he’ll just say why doesn’t it take 5 mins? If you arent happy with what you are getting out of the game leave, simple as that. You want to talk about it on the forums cool but you have literally made no attempt to solidify your arguements, its like you’re throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks. Its a complete waste of time, you want an answer to this question? Go think about what you want, cuz right now it seems like you dont even know what you want. If you DO HOW ABOUT WRITE THEM DOWN TOO but so far every point you made is WAY off and I posted about this before…
the game does not offer players to adopt an individualistic role in the game. this game puts no value in individuality, it puts all its focus on team-based activities. therefore, leaving mediocre tasks that offer reward to the lone individual, which is every single player, unless the player has a team to play with ever single day for the whole time they are online. the same is said for the game’s PVP, the lack of value put in individuality and individual manifestation of skill for classes are really bad. each class forces a role on every player who plays the class, which really narrows your options and forces you to play with a team if you want to even participate in it’s pvp. it narrows your options even more when the game forces a SPECIFIC build on every player, which essentially annihilates the option of trying to create a build to begin with. sadly, since players are forced to play a role for every class, they also will not be able to compete in another field outside that SPECIFIC expertise. therefore you will never be able to do anything and be good, or at even grounds in terms of individual skill, with any other class. overall the PVE and PVP has no individualistic perspective put into its creation. i urge and even warn the developers to stop this group mentality for everything they do, if they want the game to really pick up. group mentality is good in a game, but it also needs a big chunk of individual value in it.
let’s be honest, the main idea behind the expansion has previous work put into it, but the content and everything besides the main idea was kinda rushed. please guys, no more rushing, focus on what has value. ik you guys listen to your fans, dont change that trait, it’s what has kept your company alive, it wasnt luck, it was an open mind.
EDIT: even if you are GREAT and have great potential, it is all destroyed when you are forced into a specific and very LIMITED role of gameplay.
In Addition: i have several level 80s, but what if i want my guardian to go toe-to-toe with a thief? its impossible, complete disadvantage. i want the specific skills for classes to remain, but i want those skills to be useful in a broader sense, as in, it would be wise to allow EACH and every class to stand its own ground versus all other classes. hence, balancing out the playing field. also, an official 1vs1 or 2vs2 option in pvp and pve would be NIIIICE?
The beta portal is grinding.
No its farm, you dont NEED a portal. Farming is for self profit which is exactly what you get out of being one of the few players that get a portal. Grinding is something you need to get like exotic , that is a very very soft easy grind. Ascended is optional and not required for anything except high level fractals.
And how the hell does the game not offer any individuality? You have TONS of armors and weapon skins to choose from and dyes hundreds of them! You can run builds that are off meta and crazy sure they may not work well in say pvp because the current player made builds may counter that style but thats on the player side not the dev side. If you want a crappy game with no classes go play Everquest landmark, a game that failed before it even launched. And it seems to me you dont understand the fundamental concept of an MMORPG , Massive MULTIPLAYER Online ROLE PLAYING GAME. AND WHAT ON GOD’S GREEN EARTH ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MEDIGUARD IS A HARD COUNTER TO THIEF BURST BUILDS LEARN TO PLAY PLEASE BUT A CONDI THEIF STANDS A GREAT CHANCE OF KILLING A MEDIGUARD. It sounds to me like you want a super op ultra class that can faceroll everything with 0 skill involved with some kittened shiny gear that you ALONE have access too. and 1v1 arenas do exist go check the lobbies, hell my guild is doing one this weekend. There are even offical tournments every week and month for all for 1v1 and 5v5. You just seem out of the loop. :l
Last thing my comment about PvP is what SHOULD win skilled players can out play others using rolls, evades, blocks , counters , CCs… etc. OH and look at that thats skill based isnt it?

Hero Points & old characters: breach of trust
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Hitomi Shadowleaf.5629
Seems to me it would take very little effort for the devs to allay — or confirm — the concerns expressed here and in similar threads. It would be a constructive and positive thing to do. Why hasn’t it been done?
It has been done they said quite clearly you’ll have to do the skill challenges. You dont like well dont do it, systems change is expected, is it unfair? That is debatable personally i don’t feel wronged in anyway all of my alts have 70+ skill challenges and under 50% map complete. Yes you have lost progress … kinda.. on your alt toon I suppose in … WvW i guess because PvErs arent going to be complaining about this. An as for the ppl with 14 toons for god knows what reason, half your toons arent honestly functional in the 1st place. You will not have access to 2 trait lines if you have done 0 skill challenges (god knows how, and if you say well i lvl my character in pvp well … keep it in pvp problem solved.) everything else will be unlocked or rather can be unlocked just by hitting 80.

Elite Specializations (new Emotes)
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Hitomi Shadowleaf.5629
Could elite specializations perhaps add a new emote to a character with one equiped for example typing /special on a tempest ele could cause them to open their hands an create a small twister between them? Or druid could stoop down, plant a seed and water it (kinda like ventari and the pale tree?) Just some random thoughts. Feel free to share and add your thoughts!
I think it will cause the price of cloth to drop or rather i hope it will. I think its a bit too expensive atm an ele will spend around 300g+ for their t7 mat alone. I hope they dont lower it too much however, I kinda of like the fact that ascended puts you above exotic in the fact that it so much cost attached to it that it deterers so ppl from getting it.
Well, to counterbalance a bit:
“It wasn’t possible in GW1”
It also wasn’t possible to play Charr in GW1. This isn’t GW1.“It cannot be done because of personal storylines”
Correct me if I’m wrong, but in which personal storyline does it ever rely on your class choice? You have your background, your sires, your drunken escapades, your lifelong dreams and asuran colleges, but class, as far as I remember, never factors into personal story.“How could they reclass into different armor”
Easily, it wouldn’t be the first time the game would strip you down to your undies without your approval. Adjusting the armor set with it would be welcome and in my opinion not impossible, but not mandatory.“Previous statements of ‘There will be nots’”
Let me kindly remind you one of said previous statements was “There will not be an expansion.”But yes, I’m fully aware of this being semi-complicated to implement, and it may be selfish of me that I don’t want to sacrifice an existing character to create the very same from scratch with the very same name and appearance and having to replay their personal story all over again when it could be solved by a convenience item. Consider it a voice that expresses a wish rather than a question then.
The devs NEVER said there would not be an expansion, all they said was that content would be released in 2 week updates. I don’t think they should do this simply because the dev time to do this is better spent somewhere else. Sure they could make money on an item like that but the whiplash from the player base for an item like that isnt worth it. Again all in my opinion.
Legendary weapons will no longer be legendary
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Hitomi Shadowleaf.5629
Nope. I see Legendaries everywhere. What makes having a credit card prestigious?
As a person who didn’t spent a dime of real money in more then 2 years i find my minstrel really prestigious.
How are you alive right now? No food in 2 years should of killed you.
With the new system it’d be a series of events not a money grind for individuals who want the prestige. Ascended and Legendary would have the same stats so as usual legendaries wouldn’t be meant for the masses with a benefit of stat selection out of combat.
This is a topic that was pretty hot during the original launch of GW2. We got back at one point that it was something that the devs were looking into it. All I really want to know is it still a possibility or have they just abandoned the idea. Oh and before people start saying that the devs have say they aren’t add any new tiers of gear , Legendary gear exists in the game already so it isn’t a new tier technically speaking.
I’d Support anything that gives thieves more options in dungeons :/ , MS: sword/pistol, OS: Short bow is the only really viable option for high level fractals and dungeons.
I would recommend that in the meantime you roll a thief and start leveling it to 80 so by the time it gets obvious that they are not going to add race change then you already have your thief ready.
its seems like Im forced to that now sigh
I’m currently playing a Norn thief and at 1st i thought it would be cool but now the more I play the more I regret the decision. I’m currently level 80 and have already crafted my crit. damage set and I have acquired all the weapons a thief can use, but i really just don’t want this Norn anymore. I’d really like to know if arena net is going to implement race changes because at the moment I’m seriously thinking of re-rolling my thief as a human and the grind that I’m facing is a bit daunting. I know that this is not a priority for the company at this point in time but if i can at least get a response on arena net’s stance to race changes I’ll know if im wasting my time with this character or if i just have to wait for the update.
