what i would like to see is WvW activity compared to early 2013 to season 1 and the activity the last year, and how spending time on introducing more siege related features would bring players into WvW.

It could also be that ANET saw how toxic the gvg community was to wvw and don’t want to promote a wannabe esport where guilds dodge each other all the time and whine/trash talk each other in whispers daily (hope it’s better on NA)

The gamemode looks interesting for me, but people want something to be serious and competitive about, and if it just gets thrown into rng and queue with same as conquest the competitive value is lost a lot already.
A lot of people want to make a team for stronghold, not for conquest, really hope anet adds separate queue

Well the populations are fragile, if they had chosen to not have the white sword function since beginning it could have worked, but with less population (at least in EU) it seems to only damage the situation. Same with point per kill, it will encourage bunkering and simply people logging out instead of playing, so they don’t give points to enemy, at least with stomp it’s hard to get point for every kill in huge fights.

In my opinion ANET should work on evening the populations, from EU perspective somehow merging/giving free move to rank 10-15 from 15-27, simply too many servers for the populations, if we somehow fixed it could have a very healthy and competitive 10 servers.
Should be more resources in monitoring server population and communities, I never saw once an arenanet tag on EU (when I was on BG I saw), since EU are moving into having a very nice top5 with 3 international servers (so bandwagoners will spread out), changes like this could potential hurt the balance.

So in summary; should put effort into population (maybe completely restart servers), not risky changes, more ANET players spread into EU and join their communities to see how players think and play.

ANET shouldn’t fiddle with the populations, it would never bring anything good (who could forget the brilliant idea of making free transfer to medium populated servers when the leading server in EU was medium)

The brutal truth is if you want more competitive wvw, then it’s up to YOU.

You’ve had this gamemode for 2 years, 2 years to adjust. The Titan-Alliance secured 30-0 record by securing supreme coverage, vizunah secured first place in EU by having great organization and call to arms giving them huge numbers at night. Blacktide retaliated with Maxs’ morning push, SFR took their victory by having high quality guilds dominating aswell as a very motivated and dedicated server purely focused on WvW.

If we look at EU scene at the moment there’s exactly 2 servers with interest in pushing for competitive play, SFR and desolation, so of course it’s not a shocker if everyone transfers to these two servers when they’re the only servers on EU that care enough to make good coverage and fights all the time.

So 2 out of 27 european servers care about building community, pushing and doing politics. What is the motivation for playing on other servers than those two? And if we take hypothetical that some from deso and sfr went together to make an alliance to create a third server where would they go? All servers have pre existing population, and those populations aren’t interested in going up in ranks, or I’m pretty sure they would have made a push for it by now.

So the reason why there’s population imbalance is because there’s apparently no charismatic people left to lead a charge to gain ranks and make pushes, what we have left is people who only know how to complain.

The only way to adjust server population would be to create a purchase in gemshop that would give you a new server, so an alliance together could gather enough gold to start their own server. But then again as always, transfers will be a dilemma.

Not true, when Seafarer’s Rest defeated Vizunah Square for the first time and was #1 we were a medium server.

On NA maybe it’s different story because of lots of different prime times. But organization and quality will get you FAR in EU. 1 good NA guild could farm both desolation and seafarer’s nightcrew. You make 1 guild do open blob in EBG and you will beat EU t1 blobs there in prime time for sure, biggest problem is morning and day where SFR has good coverage, but getting 1-2 motivated SEA guilds could do the job.

The fact is to make a change is a lot of politics and it’s way easier to complain on forums about how OP coverage is instead of doing something about it. And as soon as a server with acceptable community and okay quality will say “let’s do it, let’s take down SFR” you will get a lot of transfers, and I’m quite sure a few cores from SFR would transfer since it’s no fun being on SFR without having vizunah to fight (desolation is just a worse version of SFR).

Two different games modes that are irrelevant to compare to each other. Next challenge is for spvpers and wvwers to do speed dungeon runs ?

if you like to have easy win and hate giving an effort seafarers is your new home

There was a major motivation behind playing in the beginning, server pride. But with bad handling of the transfer system, national servers imbalance, removal of matchup thread and initial rush of the release to become the best, the game is very stale, at least in EU.
Since server pride was hard to maintain I think many replaced it with guild pride/gvg.

I think if deso forum warriors had studied sfr history (accusing enemy of double team will make them double team you, sfr learned this in s1), and if desolation had realized sooner than week 6 that they have a huge population and great coverage, they could have taken the number one spot for sure.

Thanks to Kresh and all other pirates from seafarer’s rest, thanks to all enemies for your blood, the blood god was very pleased throughout the league.

Many came to WvW to play as an army against another army, including the organization, politics, alliances, guilds etc etc.
The real problem of WvW is the server transfering. Building up a server, a community takes a lot of work, and this work can easily be destroyed by transfers which you cannot in anyway control.

This means a lot of guilds who originally played PPT lost motivation to play as a whole server, as a community, as their hard work would resort to winnerteam joiners and queues. This means guilds will just focus the main aspect of WvW, the fights. They move silver league and forget about PPT worries, siege worries etc. Totally understandable.

The problem of this is every new player who becomes hardcore and wants to fight hardcore will have his best options to play in silver. This means the new generation of players don’t get to enjoy the other aspects of WvW, the politics, the siegeing, taking t3 garrisons while bathing in the blood of your enemies, competing in something that’s much bigger than you or your guilds individual perfomances.
And this means there’s not many left to continue the serverwide-competing (maybe in NA it’s a bit more competing and exciting than EU).

It would be interesting to hear what would make the guilds who travel to silver league become interested in trying to compete for being #1 server. If it was my game I would be worried that some of the guilds who care most about fighting, improving etc was all avoiding being in the top servers.

Cheers to desolation for actually being hungry enough to try and take us down, as hard as it can be to believe the core and old part of SFR still prefer challenge over easy win.

Secondly, you should really get some small scale teams. If 5-10 people attack a desolation tower it’s either 1) not gonna be defended 2) whole blob is gonna come and another sfr team will flip something else from deso.

It’s incredibly boring to fight deso with this blob only mentality.

No. In fact, we wiped them earlier too and I wish I had that recorded.

What you see is their 2nd attempt with 3 brand new omega golems. We had zero supply and no queue (standard JQ EU non-coverage LOL). I think they had about 40 inside with an additional 10-15 spread outside of our Garrison to stop our reinforcements.

JQ and BG should be really happy about this. Even better if SoR can get new EU coverage. An alliance should be created for the balancing of servers, it would be a great initiative.

The problem with EU is the amount of server deaths makes the old gw2 players forget about points and play purely for the gvg-style fights. This means a lot of good players are in silver league which is sad for t1. All those who put time into their server to watch it implode, anet-caused deaths etc are discouraged from investing time and energy in organizing etc etc and either retire or go relax in silver. Vizunah is the only stable t1 server and challenging vizunah for 1st place will result in a lot of server problems (as you can witness with SFR now, kudos to those still fighting to keep SFR going). If pre-league announcement SFR was fighting against this motivated vizunah it would have been a phenomenal league. This sucks for vizunah aswell, each time they have an opponent that’s challenging in the PPT aspect the server will eventually disappear.

for EU kitten be exciting you’d need 2 international servers simultaneously rise up to fight against vizunah, so bandwagoners would be spread out between the servers. But I don’t think it’s possible, too many EU players have abandoned the PPT system, especially after what anet did to SFR first time with the free transfer to #1 server.

Gear treadmill is not good in pve perspective either. There’s a reason why GW1 didn’t need a gear treadmill to keep players interested. It was because back then guild wars was about good lore and hard pve end-game (and of course, actual Guild Wars) . In GW2 the lore is tedious and challenging pve non-existent and invoking a gear treadmill after a promise to carry on GW1 legacy of no gear treadmill just shows how big a failure pve content was in GW2.

So in pve also, gear treadmill is a sign of lack of content to keep players interested.

Gz vizunah, piken, you are beating a struggling SFR and being proud about it. Must be a big moment for your servers defeating a server when it’s at the weakest considering how much you felt the need to brag on forums.

Vizunah being in the lead for once against us, more and more vizu forum warriors gets the nerve to talk. So much for the diplomacy.

It’s good to see vizunah’s passion is back, it’s just a shame we can’t get on the borders to fight you.

This is a great matchup and hope you all get bagz and fun. I hate this being the first matchup because if we are to lose against vizunah it has to be not because of pve guys looking for achievements but because they are better (if they win!). If all goes to kitten with SFR, history repeating itself, don’t worry we will become sfr 7.0 be stronger than ever again.

For vizu and piken I hope your pve players enters with a minimum, vizunah did us a favor by farming our noobs in jumping puzzle

This whole play-2-reputation phenomen is an european thing I haven’t seen any russian guild care about other peoples opinion of them. At least not the ones on SFR

XRKUN and his friend kittenfex.1593 run a 2man trolling guild and just come on forums to troll this is not a reflection of internal issues it’s just 2 trolls getting too much attention.

Individual counters, by my judgement it looks like piken are most eager to call blobs, sfr with nice average and elona suprisingly calm this matchup thread. Then again, I didn’t check the german forums

Troma, in the 2 aspects of the game, politics and gameplay itself, vizunah never won because of the last part. I think FSP even won against you in beta weekends because we could stay up as long as you, or does my memory fool me?
Politics was all you got and it was very powerful. Still is. FSP beat you in gameplay aspect each time. But how can a pug server handle the coverage of a pre-existing community? That’s exactly why the canadian rumors started isn’kitten No one understood how you could have people on at night.
With ANETs tool to control your server was non existant what could you do? Nothing. And you say now others are overkill? Sorry but in my view anyone from vizunah doesn’t have the right to say overkill.

And on another note, I encourage all the servers to do this. So far in EU league it’s always been a question of coverage no matter how you handled it (recruiting, CTAs, timezones, etc). The only way to make this a game of skill is for everyone to have full coverage. So if you’re sick an tired of SFR being #1 and you feel it’s only because of coverage, you know what to do…
