As I said, my gripes weren’t surrounding how to utilize the system, they’re based on you don’t actually have to bother.
Whether you choose to cleverly organize your group and ‘attract’ mobs attention etc makes no difference, people in your group are gonna die and you’re gonna be reviving regardless. With the right amount of perseverance, you’re gonna win too. Most MMOs employ a learning curve. Time to learn your class, time to learn the encounters, the thrill of executing tactics perfectly. None of those exist here.
It’s a subjective word. Someone’s “best” game might still be Everquest.
Never seen anything like this on Gunnars Hold EU.
Aye, this is what I suggested long ago. It doesn’t have to be a trinity but you still need some form of roles assigned by the system. If someone from my guild tries to come as a full support elementalist, we laugh and tell him to respec.
Don’t know about other factions but no way would I ever consider dropping 100g for the Asura stuff.. needs work done to it before people will do that.
I dinged level 80 on my alt and bought a full set of rare gear for 3g. This rare gear is about 5% worse than exotic dungeon gear.
End result? Hey, I don’t have to farm dungeons or huge amounts of gold to be competitive.
You grind if you want to for new skins.
As officer of a smaller close-knit guild (75 people) – We don’t let our players join other guilds. You play and represent in ours or you’re not a part of it.
That’s how we deal with the above anyway.
Personally think they need to add a trinity system for dungeons, one which turns on when you enter the dungeon. Someone who is support specced receives a big increase to healing, someone who is defense spec essentially is a threat magnet and target for monsters and someone who is DPS spec just does damage.
This way almost all classes could take on at least 2 of the above roles (in some classes they could do all 3, a Warrior for example could tank/support/dps) and it wouldn’t interfere with PvP balance.
It was a nice thought trying to remove the trinity but what happened instead is mechanics, difficulty and group coordination took a complete nosedive and a huge step backwards.
Oh, another “I came to GW2 expecting a great PvE game and got a PvP game instead, i’m off to <insert single player game or PvE focused MMO here>” thread?
I stopped reading when you referred to an expansion about pandas as “the big dog” and also tried to suggest single player games will be the same caliber as GW2. I’m sure at some point you will also say “this game will die a horrible death!” and “everyone will be leaving with me soon!!!” – I didn’t even have to read on to know that would be in your post somewhere, given how cliché these rant threads are for <insert x issue>
This is, and never will be a PvE focused game. It is present for people to have additional options but it is not the core focus of the game.
Their changes reflect this and frankly farming the same dungeon endlessly to become rich affects balance in WvW. You can still farm the dungeons as much as you want, you just won’t get 25-30s a run for doing it now.

Haven’t noticed anything. If it was changed, it certainly isn’t the 15-20% people are saying it is.
I don’t tend to roll females but then I have a strange perception towards it. In the old days of MMOs guys would roll female characters and actually pretend to be female; it was always very creepy when the server discovered x person was actually y gender. (Girls pretended to be males for some reason too)
How much of this could be alleviated with a better aggro mechanic?
That’s what is required really.. but then you’re entering the realms of a trinity. It would mean bringing someone who could soak up hits.
So what we get instead is “Everyone takes a hit and uses their heal spell” then it moves onto “Hope you don’t take another hit or two during the cooldown otherwise you’ll be shouting for a res or respawning at the waypoint”
It’s pretty dull and lacks any real coordination or punishment for dying sadly.
Been MMOing since 1997 or something; it’s one of the best releases i’ve ever seen.
A little lacking in the dungeon department (chaotic/boring at the moment) and high level content should have been made available for testing due to bugs (which will of course be ironed out and are getting resolved) but other than that: top notch.
Then maybe you should look up the word general.
Spoiler: it means talk about anything.
I really don’t think they have pulled off this ‘trinity removal’ with any success when it comes to dungeons. They have definitely got it right in SPVP, which is cool. They haven’t even achieved “bring the player” because frankly you’d have absolutely zip chance of completing a lot of the explorables with 5 thiefs or 5 DPS warriors.
At the moment explorable dungeons are the following:
- Not challenging
- Die/rally zerg fests
- Die/run back from waypoint constant
- A chaotic mess of everyone running around and the boss going nuts.
None of this is tactical what so ever. I never thought i’d say it but frankly I wish there was a trinity system in dungeons added.
People want the perfect game. They also want MMOs to be released in the state of games that have been on the market for years.
When they don’t get it, they complain; I call it the delusional-gamer philosophy and often reference it to looking for a leprechaun’s pot of gold.
Uh.. yeah, haven’t noticed anything in particular on my Ranger.
Uhhh…2 hours per day, 350 hours? That would take 175 days. We’re not even 30 days in, are we?
I see someone read the original post.
The difference between tiers of gear is very small. A full set of rares vs a full set of exotics is less than a 5% total upgrade.
It would stand to reason the difference between a full set of whites and full set of exotics is a 20% difference, if all are separated by 5%. So yes, in theory, a fully coordinated group, on TS3/Vent, could quite easily do dungeons in whites.
Sounds like some people came to GW2 expecting a PvE game, and got a PvP game instead. I don’t see how <insert single player game here> will somehow replace GW2 either, they’re different games.
I’ll be playing for some time to come.
Asking this question this early in the game’s launch window is not great timing. You’re just in time to see all the content locusts rage quitting and “taking all their friends with them.”
Pretty much sums it up. This is about the time the people who blitz through content, demanding it should have lasted them a year, come on and rage it up.

350 hours and 3 level 80s.
2 hours per day is very casual in my opinion.
I’m sure new skills and utilities are on the cards – for now they’ve opted for something that is easier to balance; long cooldown but strong skills.
I can easily make 1-2g an hour at level 80 by farming mats, Orr events and selling stuff that drops from said events.
If I get real lucky I can pull 3-4g an hour, depending on rare drops and gossamer salvaging.
So no, it’s really not that hard to make money later on. If I farmed for 4 hours a day, every day, i’d easily hit 20g a week and 80g per month – maybe more if I had some exotics drop.
I think people want to see their gold go spiraling into the hundreds and get angry when it doesn’t. Sorry, it doesn’t work like that in a new economy; only broken ones.
The players expecting instant rewards and satisfaction when they want it will soon be dropping off, so don’t sweat it.
Making a thread won’t stop them though sadly.
Hoping all this is on the cards, yeah.
What we really need is just some form of communication about “upcoming plans”. I sure hope they didn’t expect this content to last for the next year.
It never gets old seeing these threads so soon after a launch.
You’ve basically blitzed, inside of 3 weeks, the content that will take 90% of the community the next 3 months to do.
I’ve done the same thing. Tons of gold, exotic gear/weaps on two characters, two sets of full dungeon gear and 3 level 80s. I’ve yet to do 100% map completion but don’t really care. However: I know exactly what i’ve done and now I have to accept it and enjoy things like SPVP/WvW/Dungeons/Event farming (the repeatable stuff, basically)
I don’t see how you can come on a forum and get angry about the way you decided to play the game. Expecting there to be enough content to satisfy 14 hours a day for the next year is just unrealistic.
Don’t overly understand the chest rewards either. I tend to get better loot from the trash mobs.
Well, it’s pretty early days.
The only thing we’re really lacking right now is a ‘where things are going’ post from the devs.
This is clearly a post from someone who is very well experienced in MMOs and GW2.
What, welcome to MMOs. They are inevitably doing the same thing over and over. It’s whether YOU enjoy it or not is the difference.
When you play an FPS game and see the same map again, is it somehow a ‘grind’? Should you rock on forums and complain that there isn’t thousands of maps to prevent this?
Not sure what you were expecting with GW2, but it seems like you’re hoping for a game that will never come.
I’m thinking you’re suffering from genre burnout.
I’ve got 3 characters to 80 now. My Necro hit 80 yesterday and I literally bought him a full set of rares (all pieces and weapons) for less than 3g. The stat difference between rares and exotics are so small it’s hardly noticeable, so in a way I am in ‘nearly’ end-game gear.
I fail to see how this is ‘months’ worth of work. I can easily make 1g an hour (often more) farming Orichalcum and events, which means if I farm 4 hours a day I can make 4g. If I do that for 7 days, i’ll have 28 gold which would be more than enough to purchase almost every piece of exotic gear on the auction.
What’s up with these whine threads? Do you want it like WoW where they throw entire sets of gear at you for one 2 hour raid?
