Question to them theorycrafters here:

Won’t a 30/15/0/0/25 build with S/P and sigils of night + force bring more DPS than the rifle version with only one sigil?
From what I understood, rifle only adds Jump Shot to the max DPS rotation, that’s one skill with ~1,5x bomb AA damage on a 16s CD if traited and you loose time / damage from weapon swapping.
Aside from the extra sigil, you get another (though hard to land) blast finisher with shield.

Or do I miss something? Does kit damage still base on the mean weapon damage of the equipped weapon? So kit (rifle) > kit (pistol)?

I was going to craft 7.5k Mango pies for Guild and trading purposes. After crafting the fillings while I watched a movie i had gained 130 levels in 10 minutes…
Now I noticed that because of this “feature” the prices of mango pies is terrible so I guess everybody is abusing this. I dont even know if I am allowed to craft the pies out of the fillings as I guess that this will be another 130 levels in 10 minutes.

Please Gaile, tell us something :-(.

EXACTLY what happened to me and how I first discovered this bug, including the price dropping into oblivion as apparently a whole lot of players are still (ab?)using this. I hope we are not open-eyedly running into another ‘snowflake affair’. ANet (and those still amassing skillpoints) should really know better by now =.=
I stopped crafting after I found out where all those skillpoints came from, but that’s obviously no solution.

Edit: spelling.

Came here to ask the very same question. Stumbled over this bug at 2 o’clock last night and reported it.
A few hours ago the latest patch went live, no word on this issue and it’s still working (or not working as intended).

If not with a solution, ANet really should come by with a statement faster. The situation as it is right now is extremely frustrating. Am I exploiting when I’m crafting the buffood for my team for the next FotM run? Or is the only way to find that out to get banned or not in a few days?

Thanks a lot for the write up Chopps, I really like the idea behind your build.

I have two proposals to make:

1. Sup Sigil of Strength in Shortbow and Sword. Both weapons have very fast attack rates and can potentially hit multiple enemies, plus the might on crit you get is 10s unbuffed. I think that would fit pretty good in your setup, as with Fortifying Bond you can keep even more might stacks on your pet (transferred might has a max duration of 10s so your pet gets the whole duration).

2. 6/6 Sup Runes of the Ranger instead of Scholar. I compared both in buildcraft and while EP seems to be lower with Ranger Runes (precision < power), their flat damage boost is more stable, as it’s practically not tied to any condition (6th bonus works even when pet is dead). Staying > 90% HP can be very hard for a glasscannon, actually one hit or a few dots will make you loose the 10% dmg buff. Furthermore, the ~+8% crit chance you get synergizes better with might on crit (or anything on crit you decide to use) and brings more to your (and your pet’s) total dmg output than a comparison of mere direct dmg numbers can show.
Aaaand they are way cheaper :p The benefits of Scholar Runes in no way justify their price IMO. (((It’s simply because those kitten Charged Lodestones are used in every desired recipe in GW2. You even need 50 of them for the new Everlasting Potion. WTH ANet?)))

Thanks for sharing!

But…
10% damage while endurance is full in an all melee build? Not going to happen IMO. The 10 points in Markmanship could be more effective in Beastmastery, resulting in ~10% more damage for your pet (according to your BM math https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Beastmastery-Math).
Why all soldiers gear? Wouldn’t it be better to balance vitality and healing power when going full tanky? 26k hp seems wasted with high toughness + decent condition management.

No offense meant, I’m interested in your thoughts. Actually, I run a similar build in sPvP (0/0/30/20/20 cleric’s + soldier’s stats, SB/GS, glassy pets).

Edit: WTF why is it underlined? Can’t remove it >_> Doesn’t mean anything.

And a second “Rune of Sanctuary” does not increase your boon duration…

The major rune does.

Its very similar to my Archon (0/30/10/20/10). I run sword/torch or sword/shield & staff, so again similar. Difference is I made delivering might my primary focus so rather than runes for boon duration I went with 3 pairs of +20% might duration for a total of +70% might duration. 12 stacks for 17 seconds off the staff-4, and able to maintain four to five stacks casually just from normal attacks with empowering might.

I went with Sigil of Accuracy (flat 5% crit bonus) and Sigil of Generosity. With over 75% crit chance Generosity hands off conditions pretty much as soon as you get one, and unlike the signet it doesn’t go into internal cooldown until it’s actually used.

May I kindly ask for details on your traits and gear?

snip

Actually I do have a stock of tonics for every fractal, they cost nearly nothing and they are worth the slots they take up (whereas multiple different weapons with all those sigils aren’t IMO).

Where do the 65% damage reduction come from? 33% from protection, but what else?

I thought, Guardians belong to the 3 squishier classes regarding conditions, as they got the lowest base HP and toughness doesn’t matter. Anyways, you might be right with conditions being an ignorable nuisance in fractals, I have never run without PoV and/or soldier runes (or another guardian).

Again, I don’t want to criticize your setup, I just want to understand how it works for you.
Will try out later, when I’m at home.

There are some good points there, however, it’s not as simple as crit chance vs power. It’s also about what happens when you do crit, and no, its not about the dps crit brings, which is why some people like to stack precision.

Exactly.

The most recurrent mistake from MMO players is focusing on a single part of the much bigger design that character effectiveness is.
If you tunnel vision into DPS and neglect Survivability and Support, not only you will lose effectiveness but your overall DPS will also be impaired from the consequences that happen from neglecting Survivability and Support.

Maximizing crit chance is done to guarantee the most Omnom procs possible and achieve 325hp/s as reliably as we can, let alone all the usual procs.
+5% DPS is only true as long as you’re effectively surviving and supporting – and as long as you don’t need to stop DPSing because you’ve fallen behind on the survivability/support tasks.

First of all, thx Red Falcon for sharing your experience! I’m searching for a better (than AH) build for 40+ atm and yours sounds promising, I’ll definitely try it out.
Saying Omnom you mean Omnomberrry Ghosts or Pie? Because you listed Plate of Truffle Steak in the consumables section.

I must say, I prefer tonics (if available) and Sharpening Stones (if not) over Oils in a high critchance build too. You won’t recognize a difference between 70 and 76% critchance, whereas 10% more raw damage is huge. And, IIRC, the tonics work for all enemy types in one distinct fractal, i.e. dredge slaying tonics work for the elemental vets / boss.

What would you say, where does your survivability with this build mostly come from? Protection uptime / blinds / reflects? Because you could get all this with a more defense oriented build. Or skill? (I might lack skill)
And how do you handle conditions? You don’t use soldier runes / Purity / PoV.
No criticism meant, I’m just really interested in your experiences at 40+.

You should try the 0/0/30/30/10 build I posted above your post. It’s a very flexible and balanced setup, especially if you don’t prefer hammer or greatsword over the other:

When playing with hammer you can switch Honor IX to VII for longer lasting symbols (~100% protection uptime) or XI for even more condition removal. Or you leave Honor IX as it is for reduced CDs on staff (and greatsword, if you want to swap it in).
If you are lucky and playing a human guardian as I do, you can take the racial heal skill instead of the signet for nearly the same heal on 30s CD (you won’t miss the passive condition removal as you will still have Valor V and soldier runes and maybe Honor XI).
10 points in Virtues is a must, IMO, as reflect is king in fractals. I usually leave VI and Wall of Reflection on my bar as default and switch to Shield of Avenger and IV when needed – in some fractals / situations you will want to have both on your bar.

My gear (see above) offers solid defense while maintaining good damage. With 3000+ armor you can easily outheal any incoming damage in fractals sub lvl 30 (blocks, blinds, reflects and DODGING help OFC).

Hi,

to all of you experienced in Fractals 40+:
I feel I have reached a point where I have to decide whether going more into DPS or switching to a more support oriented build (with healpower equip and the likes). I see players discussing that in any forum I visit (while most times I doubt there is solid first hand experience, it seems more to be a fight between two religions). Any advice you can give me from personal experience?

I’m currently running a balanced (between def and off) build:
0/0/30/30/10
full knight’s armor and weapons
6/6 sup soldier runes, sup sigils of accuracy / energy
berserker’s ascended amulet + rings + backpack
exotic emerald earrings with ruby orbs
Stats unbuffed (IIRC, not at home right now)
Attack ~2900
CritChance ~46%
CritDmg ~66%
Armor ~3000+
HP 15,5k

Any advice will be appreciated, thx in advance!

as for knights vs berserkers or other stats. i’d say take your build lay out and try to tweak the numbers to see where you want your stats to spread out over. and just a general rule of thumb, for ascended trinkets as it stands, for each 1% critical damage you add, you give up 7 regular stat points for Ascended Back, 8.5 for ascended ring and earrings and around 9.4 for the amulet. so you can sort of base your decisions off that as well and mix and match.

As for a balance of knights and berserker gear, the best to do atm is get
ascended berserker backpack, rings, accessories and amulett
and full knights armor and weapons.
All non-ascended items offer less crit damage for each stat point.
For more offense / less defense go for berserker shoulders, gloves and boots (12 stat points / 1% crit damage).

I’m wondering how the ratios for future ascended gear will be and if one could foresee that and plan accordingly. Maybe ascended shoulders / gloves / boots will offer better ratios for stat points versus crit damage.
It seems as if there is no correlation between exotic and ascended item’s ratios.
Exotic rings for example had the worst ratio (16 stat points for 1% crit damage) whereas ascended rings offer one of the best ratios.
Does anyone see a pattern?
