Not quite. It was mentioned in the thread that people went on to spoil HoT after the release without getting any form of punishment. Gaile mentioned that she wasn’t talking about spoilers like Rosebud (which is actually spoiled in the Hints: section right above when you are posting).
Where is the line when you are allowed to post spoilers and when not? That is, at least to me, very unclear.
It seemed pretty clear to me based on Gailes post. Old spoilers for things people are highly likely to have already read/watched/played etc. should they want to are not a problem. E.g. the plot to a 20 year old movie or 10 year old game.
Things which are brand new, like the plot to the new Star Wars or Heart of Thorns which you can reasonably expect many people will not have had the opportunity to experience for themselves yet should not be posted all over the forum.
But where is the line? When am I allowed to talk about spoilerish things without having to fear to cause an outrage. I saw Predestination early 2015. Am I allowed to ‘spoiler’ it or is it sill too early? For me, it’s still not clear when things are clear.
Just use common sense. Obviously, talking about a movie during its first week of release is spoiling. I’m sure once a movie is out of the theatres, most people wont care if you discuss it.
But I also don’t understand the incredible and insatiable need to discuss movies in general map chat. Star wars has it own forums with spoiler tags. If people want to chat about it, they have far more knowledgeable people there.
Okay, your and Nike.2631’s post do it make a little bit more clear to me. Seems like it all comes down to if you are that person or not. However, why Star Wars spoiler are now being punishment whereas HoT spoiler (and GoT spoiler? – reading the thread, this was an issue in the past already, but seems no clear statement was made?) weren’t then (they weren’t, right? – as this still seems a discussed topic on how to handle it), in fact all other movies/books/whatever weren’t (or is anyone quietly reporting?), still doesn’t sound right to me.

That last part is the most important. Reasonable people view someone sitting in a map chat shouting spoilers for a movie that just came in theaters on Friday, not all the world’s population has seen, and was locked out to large parts of the population due to ticket/seating limits, as nothing more than rude trolling. Ruining a good time for everyone else.
Forget, for a moment, the 5-10 people in the map that do not care or have already seen the movie. What about the other 90-190 that DO care and/or haven’t seen it? And even flipping those numbers to assume only 5-10 haven’t seen it while the other 90-190 have, it doesn’t matter. The fact of the matter is that purposely trying to ruin something in-game for someone else is against the game’s Rules of Conduct is punishable as such under the execution of a Customer Service/GM decision.
By your argument, why is this ruling only brought to the new Star Wars movie but not Citizen Kane etc. as mentioned in Gaile’s post on page 3? What about those 5-10 people who haven’t seen it? How does it ruin something in-game less than the new Star Wars movie spoilers? I’m not asking you directly, I’m just trying to understand Gaile’s posts from page 3.

If I understand you correctly you agree with me that if you ban people for spoiling the new Star Wars film, people posting spoilers to other movies/tv-shows/games/whatever should be banned too.
But what if find a topic that me and other people don’t like to be talked about in map chat? What if I feel offended when people talk about how great Star Wars is? What if that is ruining my day because I can’t have a normal discussion in map chat because everyone talks about Star Wars? Someone spoiled today the Miss Universe show to me. That’s a global event. Should I have reported that person?
The answer is the same as when do spoilers are ‘okay’ like Gaile mentioned in her post like Rosebud? Do I have to wait so and so years before I am allowed to ‘spoil’ the movie? How does it change? Because it’s older? So can I spoil the initial Guild Wars 2 campaign to someone new because it is already old?
Again, the answer is strictly with ANet, and with Gaile’s posts their ruling is more than debatable. But oh my, is it even allowed to question those posts? Better just follow without questioning anything.

Looking at your post history I’m not surprised to see such a comment for you. Never did I say that, but as mentioned earlier somewhere in this thread I kinda assumed that they’ll be too casual. Was looking forward to get into the game again hunting for the ones I still need and was therefore hoping for well balanced achievements somewhere between reachable but not ASAP. You make it sound like everyone happily +1’s a whine about an aspect of the game but this thread is suddenly completely different.
You can ignore the fact that SAB isn’t there because, you know, it isn’t there. But anyway. I’m not saying everyone agrees with the other complaint threads, either. I’m just saying the threads about poor player behavior seem to get way more “Why did you waste time making a thread?” responses than the complaint threads about other things. But it’s still early for me, and I haven’t had my coffee, so I may just be remembering those threads badly.
My main point is just that I don’t get why so many people fall back on “It’s the internet” excuse when someone points out complete jackhole behavior (for both the not-really-offensive stuff and the whoa-that’s-incredibly-messed-up stuff). Yes, it’s the internet, but that’s not an excuse to act like a disgusting pig/racist/bigot/misandrist/misogynist.
The difference is imo that people who want SAB back don’t really have any other way than to come to the forums and “complain” about it. On the other hand – as Godmoney.2048 pointed out – OP had full control to just stop the harassment. ANet provided the usual tool you find everywhere else to stop it, so I’d ask OP what she wants from ANet as I couldn’t really find it in her posts. Remove chat? Have a little talk with the bad boys?
PS: I agree with your second paragraph though. Then again, I don’t understand why someone needs to make such a huge deal out of this situation.

I find it so funny that you’d rather post on the forums with something none of us have any control over yet you could have blocked and reported this person in mere seconds.
My block list has at least 100 people on it and it only took about 2 seconds per block.
We live in a world now where people would rather complain about online abuse (for attention I assume) then just deal with it and move on.
OP did say that she reported him/them. She didn’t say if she blocked them, though.
As a side note: People come to the forums to make thread after thread about how they’re going to riot if they don’t get SAB back. People come on here to whine about how the sound effects for The Dreamer have changed. People post about how mad they are that the game went free to play. These posts are all apparently fine. But a post about player behavior somehow isn’t fine. I just don’t understand the logic there. It’s cool to whine and moan about one aspect of the game, but it’s not cool to whine and moan about chat issues/player behavior.

You cannot be “sexually abused” in map chat. It’s physically impossible. You can possibly be sexually harassed. In which case, report them/block them and move on with your life.

I don’t know if it was like this before but when I’m taking more damage than I have life force and I’m switching back to my normal health bar, there is a one second delay before I can use my normal skills again. Is this intended?

Well not much luck on SoRBL either. I’m just really looking to improve my game skill. Even 4v1 would be fine .. but all four of you ran off elsewhere.
I decided to roam (for once) in TCBL for a bit with my ele and ran into a fun TC group at the bridge outside of Briar. I’m not specced for 1v1s, but we had a few fun duels.
Yeah, I was one of them. Your warrior server buddy really knows how to stack bleed, made even me as a necro jelly. But I told him already. Anyway, I haven’t seen more roamers or pairs than in this matchup – and I haven’t seen anyone running. Probably the best/fairest tier for duels and stuff I’ve met so far.
PS: We weren’t specced for duels either. :p

Big LOL to the IRON commander and his two or three friends at our Garrison right now. Had tons of fun there alone and later with my friend, sadly our mesmer died right before the gate. Then the zerg came, but the time we spent there was awesome.

Favorite moment of today was in SoR BL. After we wiped in Hills three of us stayed back to take briar with siegerazer when a bigger group of SoR came from ruins. Especially the guys from [Saty] were funny to watch when they tried to get through that bubble around the cata on the bridge over and over again. They made it then only to get destroyed by siegerazer.
Please note that I mean no offense by this in any way. It was just hilarious to watch.
Anyway, enjoying this matchup so far and I’m really impressed of the level of coordination you guys evince.

Here comes the twist: Not everyone gives so much kitten about the rating like you do, Dayra. “Who needs competitive matches when you can gain #ratingpoints” is not everyone’s motto. Most people would rather play than watch. I find it hard to believe that lower populated servers who were matched with way more populated servers are actually celebrating on friday that they got beaten pretty hard tho but not so hard that they would loose rating points, so that they’re moving up on the rating and could face even more populated servers.
I just can speak for myself but I would have this suspense rather ingame than “outside” of it. Logging in on friday, seeing that every server could still win is more suspense then logging on friday seeing that you only got beaten by 200k points rather than 300k.
