Losing the benefit of that spirit hits PvE Rangers pretty hard.
I recently received a very kind whisper in-game from someone who had read this thread, so I figured I’d give an update on my current situation.
Things have improved considerably since when I made this thread. I took your advice and found a group of people I can chat with, and they also happen to run dungeons and fractals and had no problems with catching me back up to speed. I’m closing in on the Gift of Fortune and then all there is to get is the precursor. Also, the job situation has improved considerably. I don’t have much more free-time than I did previously, but it’s less stressful now than it was before.
Spirits are still high, Twilight shall be mine. Thanks for the support, guys.
I understand that precursor prices are getting a little out of hand, but I’m still hopeful. I know that some people do manage to make enough gold to buy them and others still pull precursors out of the MF. I figure that I’ll just throw other sets in there as well and sell any other precursor that I manage to get, then put that money towards Dusk. I’m patient enough to work towards it. This, at least, will be a constant in my life. And you know, I remember when I first started thinking that 56g for Dusk was a fortune, but now you can make that in a few days of just casual dungeon runs. Times sure have changed.
And as for crafting disciplines, I maxed them all out at 400 before I left, which was before the Ascended crafting where they went to 500. Leveling them is more expensive than I’d like it to be, so I’d rather just save that gold unless I’m positive that I can make a profit off of it. Unfortunately for me, I was never good at playing and sort of AH or TP to turn profits beyond small-scale things. I’ll just stick to things that I can control better.
And I’ll take a look around for a decent guild, but I’m afraid that many of the guilds I see are off-server and many are mega-guilds where nobody would even know my name.
Weekends are mostly free for me, which is a fortunate thing about my schedule, it’s just that I have little time on weekdays.
I’ve played GW2 since its initial beta weekends and I played rather religiously for the first few months of the game. Midway through my first month I took a look through the legendaries and immediately fell in love with Twilight, and as such set about farming to craft it for myself. This game helped me manage my slowly descending life; kept me happy and let me focus on something else for a few hours before I had to get back to my problems. Unfortunately, RL took a bad drop and I had to leave gaming behind for several months while I tried to get things sorted out properly. Now, many months later, I’ve returned to GW2 to find that things are very, very different to how I’d left them.
In the time before I left I managed to pick up most of what I needed with the exception of some T6 mats for Might/Magic, Ectos and, of course, the precursor. I’m afraid that my life is still in a hectic place right now, meaning that I don’t have much time to play every day and it will likely take me several months to even farm up the ectos that I need, much less the gold for the TP or RNG into the MF for Dusk. Odds are that I’ll just save up my rares/exotics to throw into the MF and save up gold to just straight buy it off the TP if that doesn’t work, though it will take me quite some time for either method.
I’m not complaining or even asking for tips on farming because there’s plenty of both right on the front page of the crafting subforum. I suppose what I’m looking for is encouragement and support? I lost most of my friends both in-game and IRL when life went downhill, so I don’t have anyone to really encourage me to continue along with this. I’m afraid that I’ll just lose motivation, and that scares me because getting Twilight has been my dream and motivation for such a long time. Slow and steady is the name of the game, but I’m afraid that I walk a lonely road at the moment. My current life status makes it awkward for me to try to talk to anyone, much less make friends. I’m currently balancing a 40+ hour week on top of maintaining full-time status as a college student, so time is very short for me.
Things are looking promising, might be getting a raise soon that will let me drop one of the things taking up so much time, which is also the only reason I have any time at all to play GW2. Hope is what drives us, no? Hopes and dreams. Kind words would be very welcome, community.
Can a mod unsticky the ranger bug topic? The guy who made the topic hasn’t posted in 4 months, so he can’t update the list by removing fixed bugs and adding new ones. And because it’s out of date, it’s useless to the developers.
edit: all ranger bugs should probably be posted in the bug forum rather than here. The bug forum is rather active with anet employees, unlike the Ranger forums.
Fixed it for you.
Honestly? They removed all that? All of it sounds incredible.

Ranger
Guard: Pets will no longer guard areas that should be inaccessible to them.
Crippling Talon: Cooldown of this ability has been reduced from 18 seconds to 15 seconds.
Empathic Bond: Fixed a bug that wouldn’t apply transferred conditions to pets. This trait now transfers three conditions to the ranger’s pet every 10 seconds rather than all of them.
Hawk and Eagle now have their own unique icons instead of sharing one.
Path of Scars: This ability’s damage has been normalized between traited and non-traited versions. Damage has been increased by 85% when not traited.
Icy Screech: The White Moa activated ability now applies 3 seconds of Chill, and the skill fact has been updated appropriately.
Discuss.
The signet itself says 25%, but the buff you receive states 10%. The boost is 25%, don’t worry, the buff text is just incorrect.
Completely in agreement. Legendaries don’t seem worth it here. The pure amount of grind and RNG you need to do is just not worth it for a fancy weapon skin no better than my Ghastly Greatsword, and especially for a weapon that doesn’t even -feel- Legendary.
Ashamed? I don’t know about you, but I’m not ashamed because I’m a roleplayer.
This sounds like a personal problem, not something that needs changed.
This has been brought up five hundred times before, and I’ll say this again: ANet has already CONFIRMED that Race Change WILL NOT be implemented in Guild Wars 2. Look up the past threads, do your own research before making your own thread on something that’s already been discussed and turned down.
I don’t have the best computer in the world. Not the worst, definitely, but not the best. I’m running an Alienware M17x, ATI Mobility 5800 HD Video Card, 8gb dual-stick RAM, 1.2TB Raid1 HDD. Usually, at max settings, it runs at upwards of 30 FPS when I first start up the game. However, my FPS will randomly throttle back to about 10 FPS after a couple minutes of loading in. I’m certain this isn’t normal, and I am by no means a tech when it comes to this, so I thought I’d make a thread on it here and see what you guys think.
Yes, I’ve updated my drivers to the most recent beta drivers, no I’m not running a thousand programs in the background when I run Guild Wars 2, and I’ve tried most of the other suggestions I’ve found. I’m not willing to give up quality because this game is absolutely beautiful, so I’ll deal with the low FPS if I have to. I don’t want to, trust me, so hopefully someone out there knows how to fix this problem.
Nothing groundbreaking, but it’s definitely not nothing. They’re getting there. Some trait fixes, pet fixes. That’s good. Expertise training might actually be nice now.
All in all, I like it. Not what I was hoping for, but much more than expected. Good job, Anet.
This build is just ridiculous. I can easily 2v1 with this build, soak up Warrior and Thief burst damage, and take silly Glass Ranger LB pokes while capturing a point and staring at him. ALSO: Trebuchets don’t mean kitten but boats and more kittens.
So true, so true. They seem a bit short-handed, in my opinion. ALSO in my opinion is that they DID buff Warrior’s LB damage AGAIN and BARELY buffed Rangers.
Rangers are the masters of LB/SB, stop making every other class use them better than we do.
Oh, nice to see this got a little more attention. Anyone have any other thoughts?
Rangers aren’t specifically range attackers. The term “Ranger” comes from the verb “range”, which means, generally, “to wander”.
Or, from Dictionary.com: To pass over or through (an area or region) in all directions, as in exploring or searching: “They ranged the entire countryside.”
So, thinking Rangers are specifically a ranged class is completely wrong. Thanks, try again.
It isn’t that we’re upset because they “dared to nerf us”. It’s that they nerfed us and didn’t bother fixing any of the important bugs.
Oh, and if Ranger is a “beginner” class, explain why Guardians get a heal for their entire health bar, explain why Mesmers have clones and phantasms to tank damage for them, explain why Necros have DS and minions, explain why Warriors have the highest health and armor in the game, explain why Engineers have all those turrets and kits, explain why Thieves have all their stealth skills, explain the massive amount of skills Elementalists get, and explain why every class isn’t just handed a sword and told to “get out there”. This game is about variety. Every class has the same potential, just different ways of doing it. Rangers have pets to tank for them because they don’t have naturally high health and armor, they don’t have stealth, they don’t have a million minions or full heals or a secondary health bar they charge by attacking, they don’t have turrets. And you know, pets aren’t even that strong to begin with.
Please, do go on about how easy-mode Rangers are.
I find myself agreeing completely. I don’t like where the lack of attention to Ranger bugs is going, and I don’t want it to start a trend.
I’m sitting in it right now, staring at the loading screen as I type this up. Been about ten minutes now. I’m certain something’s not working properly, as I’ve never had trouble loading anything before this.
I made a thread for this with more information on the Suggestions forum.

Feel free to stop by and leave your thoughts.
Agreed @Natsu.
I honestly don’t see why they can’t. If they were able to, I might swap to a full-melee Ranger build. That’s just how much I’d like the idea.
Bump, because this is important to me.
I would -love- a quiver for my Ranger. This just seems like common sense to have, and they don’t even need to change anything. Just create the quiver model and place it on the Ranger when they draw their bow, or perhaps make it equip on the “back” slot to appear. Engineers have their backbacks; give Rangers their quivers.
I would immensely enjoy it if Rangers were given the ability to use swords in the off-hand. Lore everywhere and in every game I’ve played, Rangers have had the ability to dual-wield swords. I don’t see why, in Guild Wars, this is an impossibility. Warriors are masters of martial skills, so it’s natural for them to dual-wield swords, though they are a heavy-armor class and less suited to the dextrous dual-wield style. Mesmers may also dual-wield swords, even though they are casters.
My proposal: Grant Rangers an offhand sword ability with the following abilities(Or general ideas, anyhow.).
4 – Some sort of rapid burst of attacks, similar to the Mesmer 2(I think.) and the Warrior’s Adrenaline Mainhand Sword skill and Thousand Blades Greatsword skill, having them slash rapidly using both blades. This gives them the ability to more properly burst in melee for those melee Ranger builds.
5 – A cross-bladed block for two to three seconds, much like the Warrior’s shield block. This would give them a better ability to tank in dungeons and exchange blows in melee combat, both PvE and PvP.
I’m not entirely sure how difficult this would be to implement, or if my request is much too out-of-this-world for ANet to consider, but I do hope they at least take a look at this thread and give me their feedback. I don’t think it’s too much to ask to be able to hold a sword in my offhand.
Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?
I like this idea. Would be pretty sweet to be able to pull out your phone and check WvW status for your server.
Who is Drizzt? Everyone’s referring to him and I don’t even understand the reference(or joke) that’s being referenced.
I suppose this should have gone in the suggestion section.
I dunno, just figured I’d ask around in the Ranger section, see if I’m the only one who thought it would have made more sense for us to have them. Maybe ANet will decide to give us some smexy dual-wielding swords? One can only hope.
Just something I’ve been wondering about, and I’m not sure if this has been answered before. Why don’t Rangers have sword off-hand capability? They seem more the agile class that would use something like that over the Warrior and Mesmer.
Thoughts?
