I will start off by saying I don’t have much experience with the Ele in general but I would like to start incorporating one into the group. I put the two following builds together in the hope that those with better knowledge can help me pick them apart and let me know if they would be good or what changes to make.
The group we usually run consists of a shout/stance warrior, condi removal necro, reaper, druid, mes, scrapper, and a few more dps mixed in there. Usually 5-8 total. We all want to bring a little of own condi cleansing with us even though the necro does an amazing job of removing them.
I wanted to make a tempest build that brought some CC and some damage. CC is what we are lacking in our group as we roam. The warrior brings some but it isn’t always enough. The first build I did was more offensive, the second more defensive. Really having trouble deciding what runes to go with.
Also I would like to stick with staff but if dagger dagger is the way to go still with Tempest I can go that way. Again I appreciate anyones help on this.
OP how is this build working for you?
Any thoughts on a WvW small group build incorporating staff and tempest with the group make I posted above?
I was going to post a similar topic so if you don’t mind I will piggy back on this one. The big difference from the op however is that I am in T4 and run with a smallish roaming group. We never have had a dedicated ele in the group but would like to start incorporating one. Our group make up now is support guard (might change to druid), stance/shout warrior, scraper, Chrono, necro, reaper, and a few other dps that change around. So usually we run 5-7 people.
I would really like utilize a staff ele or tempest in this group for cc and support but still bring some damage as well. I would prefer to stay away from the dagger/dagger cele ele if at all possible. Normally I would post a build and ask you guys what you would change up but for this one I am clueless on what to even start with. So if anyone could suggest a build I would appreciate it.
@felixdacat, do you mind linking your build?
Are there any melee ranger builds that work well with small roaming groups in WvW? I am new to ranger so I don’t know how they fare in the thick of things. I normally play warrior in my group with a front line sustain/CC build. I was wondering for a change if I could swap to melee ranger. We usually run 1 guard, 1 warrior, 2 necros and a bursty (mes, theif). We aren’t going up against the zerg but looking for fights with other small groups and taking towers, camps, etc to provoke fights. Or am i better of stick with a LB/GS build, which I am fine with as well?

Awesome great advice I will try it out.
@Heimshkarl, I saw you thread and it was a huge help. The only thing I was wondering is how the longhorns builds work in a 5 man group setting. I main a warrior in our group which I think is key to the group and bring a lot of cc, swiftness, cleanses, etc. I know I won’t be able to do that with a ranger but when we are just out for fun to blow people up I wanted to give the ranger a try. Is soldiers ok to go with on accessories and weapons and armor zerker?
Also what is the best way to keep my distance? What I am hoping to do is stand a little establishing my group and pewpew, if some breaks off to go after me I want to be able to stretch them out away from their group so they are isolated. Again thanks for your help and if anyone else has advice that would be great too.
Can someone help me with a small group build for WvW? Looking for something with high damage but not too glassy. Longbow/GS. I am only wearing exotics to start out and have a set of Beserker armor but I have put runes in or bought any accessories. Based on the small groups we have been running into there seems to be lots of conditions so something that will help clear those. This was the build I had my eye on:

Do you have any suggestions on builds for small group roaming staff ele? Or does dagger/dagger just outshine staff in a small group?
Thanks a lot, Fay, you have been very helpful.
@Fay, thanks for all of the great advice. As a returning player this is a huge help. I wish I had read it before I followed the meta build to a T. I have full dire gear (armor, weapons, accessories). Since ruined it out with perplexity runes I am loath to replace the armor due to the cost of the runes, would it be more effective to change my accessories out to all rabid? Another question I have seen an answer to, is it better to leave the clones up as long as possible to deal more condition damage or is it better to shatter them once I have 2 or 3 up? I will make the changes to the traits you recommended from the meta put condition roamed.
Not to derail the thread but would you change anything from the meta build for the power shatter build?
Another quick question what is the best food to run for a PU build?
Also I am using the PU roaming build and gear recommended on MetaBattle.
Thanks for the tips. Is the idea to shatter as soon as I can with 2 or 3 clones up, or keep them up as long as possible to apply more conditions? Fyi I am just using this for solo and duo WvW at the most I might run with 4 other people.
Bump. A lot of views but no advice. I know there are some good PU members out there that could answer a few of these questions. I’ve studied a few of the guides from the stickies but could still use some help. I don’t seem to have much problem staying alive or getting away when I need to but it doesn’t seem like I am downing opponents that fast.
Another question, when is it advisable to shatter the clones? And is F2 our best shatter with condition damage? Does this build work well duo roaming with a shatter mesmer, or we better both going PU or both power/shatter builds?
As the title says I am returning after a 2.5yr break. Last I played my Mesmer was as a Shatter build. I have dusted him off, bought a full set of Dire gear, and headed to WvW and realized I have no idea what to do on this guy.
Could someone give me some advice on the main openers in 1v1 or 1vx? What skills are priority and which ones are useless? Should I be running with my Scepter/Torch most of the time or running in staff? Is there a basic rotation to use? And lastly how do you extend your stealth time, I see some people posting that mesmers can stealth for 30 secs. Again thanks in advance.
Roaming, small groups, 1vX.
Do I have to finish the level 80 story line? I haven’t tried it but it sounds like it is bugged atm.
As a returning player iss it worth picking up the Living Story season 2 on the grem store? TBH I am not much of a story guy, I skip all cut scenes I can, and mainly want to focus on WvW. However if it is worth it for gear or money I would be interested.
What about full cele armor and zerk trinkets? What about weapons? Will we need to mix in some soldiers or knights?
Couple more questions.
What is a good gear combination to go with as I slowly get enough crystals for celestial gear? Knights/Zerk 50/50?
Also can you convert your exotic gear into ascended gear down the road, or do you need to craft the ascended gear from scratch?
thanks, what is the quartz crystal time gate? also how do you covert exotic gear into ascended? if i craft a starter set of exotic, what type would you recommend? zerk, knights, etc. Thanks in advance for any advice.
So I have been away from the game for over two years and a lot has changed. I decided to level up a D/D Ele with the hopes of roaming and playing in small group action in WvW. Back in the day you could craft the best gear pretty easily, is that still the case? Can I acquire most if not all of what I need via crafting or is some PvE required? I would like to avoid as much PvE as possible but if there is something quick and easy I don’t mind.
I have been trying to research the best gear set up and it seems like a lot of people are going full celestial on armor and mixing up the weapons and trinkets but I am very confused. There is also these Ascended items now, do I need those? Hopefully I am not asking to much but could someone spell out what armor, accessories, and weapons I should be aiming for. Is celestial hard to get? Can I make a mixture of exotic gear and convert it to celestial down the road or is that function not in the game. Last but not least I found a dagger in chest after fighting the dragon in sparkfen, her name started with a T, and the dagger was an ascended item, but I can’t remember the name. Something Sunless. Is that a decent dagger to use, or at least to start off with?
Sorry again but if someone could help out or point me in the right direction, so much has changed from two years ago and a lot of the info out there seems outddated.
Bumping it because I am sure someone out there has some suggestions on where to spend my points early and what weapons are better for leveling.
Thanks I am only looking at it from a WvW aspect. I enjoy both, though have only had a day on Ele and used a scroll to level him to 20
So I have been away from the game for two and deciding to bring up a fresh toon. I have warrior, mezmer, and thief at 80 already. For small groups and roaming (sometimes in a duo) with some minor zergering, which would be better Elementalist or Engineer?
So I have been away from the game for 2 years and I have decided to come back and level a fresh Elementalist (Engineer as well). I have looked and searched for some good leveling build advice but everything seems to be before the last few major patches/changes. I am level 21 right now and would appreciate if anyone had some good advice on builds to use as I level. Traits and skills to grab, weapons to use etc. Thanks so much in advance.
