The issue with Random Invasions

I agree that they should have had all the zones appear once in 13 hours and then reorganise the order each time so it’s fair to each time zone.

You don’t need to shuffle the order, since it’s not divisible by 24 it automatically manipulates itsself.
Over the course of a week every map will occur at least once in every two hour slot, so it’s 100% possible to get it regardless of time zone.

As I said in an earlier post, there is a reason WoW has such a long patch turnaround and such a long public testing phase. You can’t rush out content like this and have it only stick around for two weeks – It takes months of refinement before it’s right.
I’d rather have less and better, the current crop is leaving me feeling eh while I’m doing it.

Super adventure box, The second Southsun and the first half of Four Winds were good, and they keep me coming back. It’s not getting better though, and that worries me.

I hate the logic of “But it’s optional” – The entire game is optional. I want to play the content, I want the achievement points, I want to play the game. It’s not optional.

Honestly, unless the next update is super adventure box again I’ll probably give it a miss, and I haven’t missed an achievement yet (Except for Liadri because I only have a ranger and PvE is spectacularly balanced…)

I have the same issue – can’t possibly get the maps done, they are repeating close together for ones we already have (three times in four hours, come on!) and not knowing which maps are done is part of this mess and problem.

You aren’t the only one saying it and this is about the fourth thread about this same subject.

The whole event was slapped together without much thought as to how people were going to live their lives and get 13 maps too.

Anet isn’t reading the forums at all from what I can see.

I made sure to keep a list of mine, but that barely makes it better. The fact that I’ve put in about 30 hours in the last two days has severely burned me out of this game, and it;s not like it’s engaging content; it’s just zerging.

I kinda wish we had monthly updates with a bit more too them, or at least a bit more polish.
Theres a reason WoW has such a slow patch cycle and months of testing.

After spending two days only needing Mount Maelstrom, the issue with the randomness – spesifically why it’s such a pain – has become obvious to me.

I cannot commit to anything else except for Guild Wars.

For example, I want to go out somewhere. I did that on day one, and missed Mael.
I want to watch a movie – Have to keep checking the clock so I can log in every hour to check.
I want to play Dota – Can’t, matches are too long and I might miss the event.

Even though it only takes a few minutes to check, the fact that the game has taken over my entire day without me actually playing it has really become a burden.

If there was a rotation, it would totally solve this – I’d just go on when i knew it was that event, and could happily spend my day doing things.
So far, Maelstorm has appeared just before I got up twice, and just after I went to sleep once. Considering there are 13 maps, having these on rotation for a week puts all of them in a 2hr slot. It’s impossible to be unlucky and miss out due to only being during the night.

Plus, we’ve had nothing but dupes of the last 10 hours for the last 5, it’s getting dumb.

Invasions too random?

Geez you do not have to finish all your achievements in day 3+whenever you want. You still have 11 days. You can waste your time doing something else till RNG gods give what you want.

That’s not the point. It’s horrible not being able to commit to doing anything else with my time since I know I HAVE to check once every hour to see if it’s a spesific map. That is a massive burden on my time, and it’s not fun.

Convenient, I just had a reply from support.

It’s not good news.

Thank you for contacting the Guild Wars 2 Support Team.

We understand you would like to know if the Mini Game Achievements will still work after the event ends.

When there is a new event, the previous event stops working. Unfortunately, you will not be able to complete the Mini Game Achievements.

Hope this information was helpful, If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.

IIJM, or is this content light + grind heavy?

in Cutthroat Politics

Jademalo.3724

IIJM = Is it just me, kitten title length.

I’ll start by saying that I dislike this update as a whole, but not everything in it. The minigames are pretty fun to start with.

However, it feels like after a vast improvement in the Zephyr patch, they’ve fallen into all of the traps that have been complained about over past updates.

For example – Grind. A large portion of players severely dislike the grind in achievements, and they made steps to address that. The Crystal hunting thing was fun and let you explore, the achievements for sprint were fairly reasonable, and the Drinking game achievements were a lot of fun. The kite hunt too was nice, although it’s understandable that people disliked obsidian sanctum.

This set does not include even one new content based achievement that isn’t grind. And what’s worse – They’re all doubled. There are two achievements apiece that require doing a fractal and a dungeon, and they are about the only half decent achievements there. However, it’s not at all new content; it’s literally just standard runs of old stuff.
You then have the “Log on every day for a week and play the game” achievements, they’re ok I guess, but it’s not new content. It’s literally just doing the daily. In addition to this there is the event complete one, which again, isn’t new content.
Then you have the achievements for the minigames, which are literally “Play these things until you’re bored rigid of them.” 2500 points in survival? A quick estimate puts that at about 16 hours worth of play. 16 hours playing one thing gets very tiresome very quickly.

And then, we get to the trials. Which, for the first couple of levels, are a nice fun little concept. Now – I have a personal gripe with difficult achievements that are time limited, and it seriously surprises me that with all the complaining over the AR cheevies they would do something like this again. I’m all for difficult content, but PLEASE make it permanent. Heck, even month long is alright, but two weeks is seriously horrible. My other gripe with this is that the trials aren’t very… Fun. They just throw an arseload of vets at you faster than you can realistically kill them, without any actual difficult mechanics or an executable strategy. At present, the current strategy is to literally try and ignore as many mobs as possible, and from a design standpoint, if people are having to do that then the content isn’t balanced right. I do not know of a single 5 man group at the time of this post that has completed tier 4 without standing by the plunderer spawns and ignoring the mobs for as long as possible.

So yeah, I’m not too impressed with this update. The whole politics thing is cool, but considering the outcome really is a fractal in a few months that will obviously be followed by the other one a bit further down the line is a bit… eh.

Jademalo.3724

I’m not looking to join a guild per-se, but I’m looking for a guild to help me get this.

I have spent over 24 hours of the last 7 days in this dungeon. I have done countless runs with countless groups, and every single time it’s failed horrifically on Mai because one person can’t listen.
I’ve finally hit that point where I’ve completely and utterly had enough, and I just want to get on with other things.

And so, I ask. Is there a guild group who would be willing to take me, a full exotic zerker ranger, on a series of runs of Aetherblade Retreat until we are successful at the achievement?
By this, I mean really grinding it out. If we fail first time, them we go straight back in for another run.

“But – what’s in it for me?” I hear you cry – 3g. Each person in the group will get 3g on the sucessful completion of the achievement. It doesn’t matter if this takes one run or five, 3g. Obviously that is on top of the 1g for completing the dungeon each time.

I honestly am completely past it with this achievement, I just want to get it finished. As a pug player, this entire dungeon has left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth due to its limited time structure.

In addition, I would like to ask one thing. Why is this achievement only achievable on the first pull? It’s just infuriating.

I will be available for runs in approximately two hours if anyone is willing.

Thank you.

I have done approximately 20 runs of this dungeon, some lasting over two hours.
Every single night for the past week I have been in this thing. I did FTL without issue, and I eventually got Personal Space.

But no matter what I try, I cannot for the life of me get Unfriendly Skies. Even if a group obliterates the first boss and the trash, it just falls apart incredibly quickly when we hit that final boss.

And so, I’m asking for help. I don’t know exactly what I can offer, so all I’m going to do is ask.

Is anyone willing to help me with this?

By that, I don’t mean attempt it once, wipe on the first barrage and then quit. I mean spend as long as it takes until I get this kitten achievement. Up until now, I have every single limited time content achievement, but time is very, VERY quickly running out for me on this one.

If someone was to help me, I would give you my eternal gratitude.
I’m up for runs for the next 4 hours or so tonight, and every day this week from about 10am to 11pm

I’m totally out of ideas.
Thank you

I’ve completed the dungeon a few times all in pug groups since I am a solo player. In fact, with one of the groups, it was 4 people from a guild in Mumble (I wasn’t in Voice Chat since I was the pug) and I saved them on the last boss since they all died and called GG. I proceeded to tank, mitigate and res 2 of them without going below 75% health (I run full zerk). From there, I helped them res the other 2 and we finished the fight easy peasy.

As for the first boss, it’s just a matter of understanding his fights. It’s really a good boss fight. First, you get one laser wall, somewhat easy to avoid once you figure it out. Then you get another wall which you have to avoid with a different method. THEN you have BOTH walls, which you have to dodge incorporating both methods.

The dungeon is fine, this is not what I’m complaining about. It’s the achievements related to that. Don’t hit the laser walls, last boss in under 15 minutes, and don’t get hit by any AoE on the last boss. All three of those are incrediblty difficult if you’re trying to pug the dungeon, prohibitively infact.

No, bc I’m guessing the whole point is that the achievement is only meant for people who have the skill to do it sometime in the next two weeks. It’s just a few achievements with no other rewards other than achievement points, so the world isn’t going to crumble if you don’t get them.

This is the issue – it’s not personal skill that is the problem here, it’s group skill. We wiped on the first boss earlier, and I spent a good 5 minutes solo happily dodging the third laser phase. Ultimately I was only tickling the golems, so I suicided for another attempt.
With Personal Space, the commonly accepted pug tactic is to all stack on top of Mei and eat the AoEs. If you’re trying to do the achievement, it’s to the detriment of your group. This is fine if you can organise a decent group of people to get it done, but with two weeks on the clock it’s a substantially harder feat especially since a run takes upwards of two hours.

What’s the problem with it being a group skill? This is an MMO; a social game. Get together your guildies with the intention of getting the achievement. It’s not impossibly difficult, since others have managed it, and again, if you can’t get the achievement, are you really missing that much?

I’ve completed every event achievement up to this point, so yes. I am.

I can only play between 10pm and 10am, so I am completely limited to Pugs. If I could get a guild group going to grind it for a good few hours I would, but I cannot.

In 3 weeks or so I will be able to play 4pm-2am which would be fine, but that’s too late.

After spending hours trying and failing with multiple groups, I’ve been having a think about what would alleviate the issues with the achievements for me.

Ultimately, it’s not the difficulty that’s getting me down so much, it’s good to have hard achievements! – It’s the fact that I only have two weeks.

Now, for whatever reason, I doubt Anet is going to keep this dungeon in beyond that amount of time, However I have heard it’s coming back as a fractal.
If we could have some confirmation on the following question, I’d have no complaints about this dungeon, it’s difficulty, or it’s achievements.

When the Aetherblade Retreat returns as a Fractal, will we still be able to earn the original 6 achievements that are present in the dungeon now?

If the answer to that is yes, than I drop all complaints about the content, the difficulty, and the achievements.

Does anyone else agree? Time limiting those achievements in my eyes is just artificially difficult and punishes group luck/time spent over actual skill.

Aetherblade Retreat Achievements - My issues

Jademalo.3724

If you don’t complete the achievement over the course of a month that it is available then the problem probably isn’t the amount of time.

Granted I would love for this dungeon to be permanent and the achievements permanent as well, but I don’t think time is the limiting factor, skill is.

Also there is no reason to expect all the achievements to be done with one run though. The fastest method is not the safest method, thus the time and the dodging achievements are meant to be done on separate runs. There are multiple achievements like this already in the game, and such is common in other MMO’s as well.

The issue is purely time. It is only actually available for two weeks, which is a maximum of 10 runs in my situation. Bearing in mind that during that time I have trouble getting a run together let alone a run filled with compotent players, it’s highly unlikely that I will be able to complete these achievements.
At present, there are no others in the game like this that are time limited. This is the big defining factor. I adore difficult achievements, but not when you’re prohibited by something other than skill.

An example that is an exception would possibly be the mad kings clock tower. It was incredibly difficult, but it was all riding on personal skill. Also, it could be grinded out by anyone, which this cannot due to requiring a group.

Aetherblade Retreat Achievements - My issues

Jademalo.3724

These type of achievements aren’t meant for the “average person” to complete. If they were, then there’d be no point.

The issue isn’t wholly that. I adore prohibitively difficult achievements, the issue is the time limit. I am well within my ability to achieve all of these, but since I can only play between 10PM and 10AM GMT, It’s nigh on impossible for me to actually get a run going let alone a good enough run for the achievements.

Aetherblade Retreat Achievements - My issues

in Sky Pirates of Tyria

Posted by: Jademalo.3724

Jademalo.3724

Since the launch of the game, I’ve made it my mission to do every single time limited event, and the main indicator of that is by getting every event achievement.

Up until today, I believed it was possible, and had successfully completed all up until this point.
However, Faster than Light, Personal Space and Unfriendly Skies are, in my opinion, the exact wrong direction to take limited time content achievements.

Don’t get me wrong, as far as achievements go these are pretty well designed. A “Finish the last boss fast,” a “Do the first boss correctly” and a “Play exceptionally well.” They take a good group, practice, skill, and are satisfying to unlock.
However, since this is a two week dungeon and realistically 95% of people are going to have to pug it, it is the definition of bad design.

All three of these achievements require having a good group who are able to do both of these bosses without issue. They are prohibitively difficult to the average player. This is a huge problem for limited time content, but completely fine for permanent. To add, if these achievements are still obtainable when the dungeon is released as a fractal, I do not have any issues with them.

Faster than light is an alright achievement. It promotes doing the boss correctly, which is the right way to go about it. However, it is also fairly difficult. This is, in my opinion, a great achievement to have in something like a fractal or a permanent dungeon. However, since it’s not simple to get in a pug, it needs a decent amount of runs. Since the content is limited time, this neccesitates an insane amount of grinding and a time sink that I just cannot give. I can only really play the game during the night, and only have time for one run when the general population are still awake.

The commonly accepted pub strategy for Mei is to all pile on top of her and eat all the AOEs to get her stacks down as fast as possible. I recieved a large amount of kitten for dodging out of them, only for her to follow me and run out of the electricity multiple times. Regardless, the bombardment phase is nigh on impossible to succeed at, since it is possible to be completely surrounded and have no possible escape even with a double roll. That happened to me. Twice. In addition to this, the <15 minute fight achievement is nigh on impossible if you’re attempting to dodge everything, due to what I mentioned above with pulling her out of the AoEs.

These are all fairly feasible with a dedicated group, but I cannot play enough at the right times to form one. I wouldn’t be so hung up about it if it wasn’t for the fact that the dungeon is so limited time, since I would be able to slowly work towards them as and when I had the time for a run.
To be clear – I don’t particularly mind limited time content so long as it is feasible for the average person to complete it in the time given. When you start making the content prohibitively difficult or extremely luck based, while it works fine as a permanent addition, it does not work in a time limited scenario.

Thank You

Logitech G13/15 applet issue

Posted by: Jademalo.3724

Jademalo.3724

The applet has 6 main screens.

1 and 2 are accessed by pressing the first button, and are world completion.
3 and 4 are accessed by pressing the second button, and are zone completion
5 is accessed by pressing the third button, and is WvW info
6 is accessed by pressing the fourth button, and is stats.

The issue with it is with screen 1.
With both screns 3 and 4, the overall completion percentage and zone name is listed at the top. Pressing button two to cycle between the two changes only lines 2, 3 and 4, leaving line 1 the same. This looks to be the intended functionality, as it shows the overall progress at all times.
However, with screen 1, line 1 does not show “World Completion: x%”
Screen 2 however, does. In addition to this, on screen 1 there is an unused line, but on screen 3 there is not.

Essentially, on screen 1 Points of Interest needs to be moved from the top to the bottom and “World Completion: x%” needs to be added, as in the bottom image.

It’s tiny, but it’s been bugging me like crazy since launch, since by default world completion is not shown when it should. Also, it’s not consistent! That’s even more annoying. Screens 3 and 4 make sense, since the %age is a header, and the three lines underneath are the spesific bits of info.

I’ve attached an image with all of the screens, and the one at the bottom is a mockup of what, in my opinion, should be showed.

Thanks!

Issues with boxes and thoughts on fixing them

in Wintersday

Posted by: Jademalo.3724

Jademalo.3724

I decided to spend 800 gems on some boxes, to treat myself. Bear in mind I don’t have particularly much this time of year what with presents and all, and £8.50 is a decent amount to me, as it is a lot of people.

I had 200 residual gems, so before I opened the boxes, I bought the earmuffs and the santa hat.

10 boxes. 6 hats, one mini, 3 tonics.

Now, most people will say “Well, that’s RNG for you” – But, I buy Keys in Dota 2 every so often, and I’ve never felt disheartened when I’ve opened a box.

You see, with Dota 2, you know you’re going to get something that is worth at least the price of your key. Most of the time it’s strange weps, but for some events it’s unique skins. However, you know that you will get a skin, and that will trade for either the others, or a key itsself. It’s relitively risk free, and you always feel pleased after opening a box. Then, on top of that, you have the chance of something MORE, be it a unusual courier or just a courier itsself.

With GW2, just opening a flat box gets you next to nothing. You get very few ugly things, and multiple untradable duplicates. After opening 10, I felt disheartened, where I should be at least pleased with what I got, regardless if I got something rare or not.
And this is the issue – You don’t get your money’s worth from the box unless you get lucky. You should get that regardless, then have the possibility of being lucky on top.

It’s really annoying – I had a fantastic evening, One shotted the jumping puzzle, did the smash the town cheevie, played 8 fret Rock Band, I had a great time. However, after opening those, I’ve been left pretty disheartened, and certainly not wanting to open more boxes, which should be the point.
Crates in Dota work fantastically because regardless, you always want to open more. You know you will at least get your key’s worth, so you open it and try your luck on something special, not trying your luck on getting your money’s worth.

I WANT to spend money on these things, since I want to support the game that I really enjoy. But coming away from this so disheartened, there’s nothing really pushing me to buy any more.

So that’s my suggestion/observation. Agree, disagree, or whatever.

(Footnote – TF2 used to have this problem, but when they implemented strange weps, you never felt like you lost with a crate, and you always broke even. This carried over to Dota 2.)

Every time I have a loading screen, the framerate drops. After a few, I have to restart, and then it jumps back up.

I’m using SLI 570s with a surround display, and this only started the other day when I installed the new official drivers. I didn’t have this problem with the beta drivers.

I’ve done a few reinstalls of them, and it’s made no improvement. Burn tests also seem to hover around 50-70% GPU usage for my second GPU, but it’s only since this driver. I can’t find a download of the beta one to test that, but yeah.

Has anyone else had this issue? It’s really annoying the pants off of me.
