Yep. Had 30+ and now I’m lucky if I can get over 10.
Would like a wallpaper too please!
Just installed it w/a 5k iMac w/m295x. When I tried to run at 5k it crashed, but I can run at 2560×1440 and am getting between 30 to 50 fps. Set to supersampling, with AA, most options pegged high. Looks great!
Can you show a pic or vid? Real curious and Im gonna need a new iMac soon but want sure if it would play in 5K, lag or have tearing, or overheat.
I’d like to secure #150

I’m using an Mid 2011 21.5 inch iMac and have set lots of the settings to mid or low and the framerate limit to 30 but I am getting a little concerned about the heat on the back during long gaming sessions. I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on keeping an iMac cool while playing the game or what good fans are out there because there are so many from the cheap to super expensive that I’m not sure which is adequate. Thank you!
Easy now….
It is not easy to develop for the Apple Mac platform, your platform has yearly OS releases which force the developer to update their software to be compatible, if they don’t do that then in a year or two the OS which supported the initial software will no longer be supported by Apple, which the end-user (you) will be penalized for.
Come to think of it, why are you complaining anyway? You belong to a niche group using mostly overpriced and underpowered (gaming wise) machines, plus the hassle of yearly OS cycles, it is not suprising that ANet can’t keep up with the Mac version, and I don’t blame them. Since the majority of their playerbase is using PCs.
If you have a capable mac machine, then just dual boot into Windows 8.1 which is much faster than Mac OS X anyway (I know from personal experience and bechmarks) and supports all the games you want.
Hi, you must be new with Microsoft because they actually do roll out OSes on a yearly basis now to compete with Apple.
You are now also part of a small niche group that still believes Windows is a better OS for gaming. That was the idea of back then but Macs do play games well. As seen, with SWTOR, Rift, LOTRO, to name a few, haven’t done well because they cater only to a small number of PC gamers. The games that are Mac compatible however are doing decent if not well, ESO, WoW, GW2, and while Steam isn’t an MMO, they have a decent library of Mac games that are helping them stay afloat.
So the old adage of Windows is better is just that, an old, archaic idea still held by Windows users who haven’t gotten the memo. This issue in particular is that GW2 was made for Windows first and then a year later onto Mac but it’s not a native client; which has nothing to do at all with Windows > Mac.
You’re not the only one. Noticed it on my bro’s comp that suddenly all his booms (he’s an engy) went from being BOOM! to small pellet pops and it’s barely audible.
So now even if I go back to page 11 and use the work around, nothing will happen? And can anyone confirm if this are running for them?
I would just like to thank the members who are able to find ways to fix issues with the MAC client and let us know. I don’t get quit as flustrated as others when I have issues with my MAC because I also run a Windoes machine. But I do prefer the graphics on my MAC.
And I must agree with CC Dancia. Insulting the team is no way to act toward the people working to fix our issues. I’m just glad to see communications from them. I came to this game from another game, my first MMO, where the company just gave up and didn’t do anything with the game for over a year and a half before they finally just pulled the plug. They wouldn’t even communicate with the players. And we were paying a monthly fee.
Was that game by any chance EQ Mac before it went free? Because I remember that. And I don’t expect a fix with this patch but I’d rather them take their time with it than rush it to meet the patch deadline.
1) Mac native client
2)Mac native client
3) Mac native client
4) Test patches before launching because they crash or have errors on Macs and I can’t experience some content till Thursday or Friday after they’ve been fixed
5) An authenticator like what Blizzard has to prevent hacking. It’s becoming more of an issue and I’ve had 3 guild mates and 2 friends in the last 2 months get hacked. I don’t mind spending $5 for a physical one, but I’d like something more secure than what’s in place now.
Currently my issue is that using it on my iMac causes way more heat than when I played WoW. (Trying to compare MMO with MMO verses an MMO with a different type of game). Maybe it’s because there was a native client that it was better able to sync with my Mac? But WoW ran smoother and with a better frame rate with a lot less heat than GW2 so far.
I’m also not thrilled when a new patch comes out and there is an error that seems exclusively for macs that tend to not get addressed till 2 or 3 patches later. Some of the older GW2 Mac gamers might remember the birds that flew by had lines coming from there wings that sparkled.
Also there isn’t much in terms of Mac customizations. Again comparing WoW, there were options and settings that were available to Macs to make WoW more customizable and manageable for Macs if playing on a lower computer or a higher computer such as offering a 64k version, recording video functions on options, as well as of course the frame rate was better. On GW2 I’ve had to really turn down the settings to get a smooth frame rate, in WoW I could turn them all up with no issues.
I won’t call the issues a deal/game breaker because I do see ANet is trying. They are addressing the issues, but their responses are slow or the responses feel very cookie cutter. It just feels like I’m talking to a robot than an actual person, much less one who understands the types of issues I want to address. I wish they had a way in game to get tickets going to the devs or administrators without having to minimize the game and go to the website. If there is an issue in game, players should have a way to get the ticket going while they have the issue right there in front of them.
I understand that it’s easy to get upset when there is a problem, however I’m sure that there are people working to resolve it. We have to stop and think that they are not doing it intentionally, it’s just that stuff happens, and we need to learn to be patient, and to provide them with as much information as possible in order to fix the issue. We are lucky to have a Mac client, being that the majority of gamers are on Windows or Xbox or PS4. Luckily ArenaNet chose to support Mac rather than a console. I know that the Mac client is through transgaming (cider) and is a wrapper around the windows client, it’s not exactly the best, but it has been working for most and allows us Mac users to play a GW2 (the most excellent game out). However, we also have to consider that we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes…perhaps the cider client was just to allow us Mac users to play right away, and they may have people coding a proper Mac version. We just don’t know as of yet. It’s also critical to be aware that every company has it’s issues, including Blizzard, they have their fair share of issue, not to mention their “cookie cutter” games that draw people in, but don’t exactly have good gameplay or content within them. Blizzard has grown beyond it’s own scope and their quality has really come down to a point of awful.
Just be patient, provide any information that’s requested, and I’m sure we’ll have a fix at some point. And who knows what the future will bring.
My bro was explaining this to me earlier and suggested that maybe this is that tipping point where they have to break down and make a full client. I’d rather be patient than break down and get bootcamp.
I want a native client!!! No more betas!
I tried putting everything on the lowest setting but that does not seem to work at all.
This issue has been in the game since the mac client launched.I guess we will just have to deal with it and be happy we don’t need to run windows.
I’ve never had any latency issues though until the patch. Before this patch I could play the game on my mac with 35-40 frames per second. I turned it down to the 30 limit to reduce heat but after last night’s patch I’ve been getting crashing errors, super low frame rate, and a broken screen movement. My comp is only 2 years old and it’s weird I go from 30+ with everything on high to 17-20 with the lowest settings.
I will agree I am happy I don’t have to run Windows. Never using that crap OS ever. I hate using it at the school library.
Same. Don’t know what it is all I could do really was send in a ticket and now we play the waiting game till they patch whatever they messed up on.
Not only is my camera turn acting funny but I keep getting disconnected with random errors and after this new patch my frame rate suddenly dropped like a rock even when I turned everything down to medium. Used to be on high and never had any problems even in LA. Is it really because of Mavericks? I’ve had it for a while now and never had any problems till after this patch.
Sad thing is I did ebay it and can’t find it anywhere. Overstock, Ebay, or Amazon. I checked on Reddit and had no idea there were issues with back orders. I opened a ticket so will post what I get from them. I’m hoping they just forgot when they redesigned the site.
Don’t know if anyone has noticed, but when I went to the Shop to purchase the GW2 soundtrack and was redirected to Direct Song’s website, the soundtrack is gone. Can’t find it anywhere nor at Amazon. Where can I go now to purchase it?
Hi GW2, besides creating wallpapers for computers, can y’all create wallpapers for smartphones and tablets? I see Magic the Gathering do it for their wallpaper of the week and it would be better than me trying to make my own versions for my iPhone. Thank you!
First off: The Mac client is still in BETA. It’s not a full client!
I’m using the Mac beta and so far I’ve not experienced any of the issues you’ve spoken about. The only issue I’ve had is with heat but that’s because I think it’s in Beta and not a full client. Whenever I play other games I don’t experience the heat issue like I do with GW2.
Saying the Mac client should be pulled is a bad idea because that’s why the game is getting so many players. I’ve said it before and I"ll say it again. When companies make games to kill WoW for example they have to target WoW’s full audience which is PC AND Mac users. ANet has done that and ESO will do that as well. Other mmo’s have either failed or barely hung in there because they haven’t stolen the complete gaming community.
Lastly I had a friend who owns a PC and joined up over the weekend and had the issues you described here. So obviously it’s not a Mac beta issue. It’s either all of GW2 or it’s an individual’s pc issue and their settings.
So if this is a Mac Client issue….. how did YOU get a Client while I got a beta?
I left WoW because of the favoritism of the Horde and the story was so Horde focused over the Alliance (unless you bought the books that tell a story that doesn’t even show up in the game). I really don’t wanna see the favoritism here. I’m voting Kiel!
Macs are now prevalent everywhere. There is no longer a reason to not have games for them. We were told this was a Beta. Okay, cool. Several months have passed now so there should be no reason why it’s still in beta and not a full fledged Mac client.
Elder Scrolls Online did state they will have a mac native client so why can’t ANet do the same?
I want a native client as well. I’m coming in from WoW and I’m seeing lots of games are going for Mac. The idea that “mac’s can’t play games” doesn’t exit anymore. Steam has tons of games for Mac, the Elders Scrolls MMO is going to be available to Mac’s from the get go, it’s time ANet/NSoft do the same. There’s no longer a good reason to keep it in Beta form.
