Primordus and Jormag were similar sizes in GW1. Kralkatorrik was the only one that was HUGE, really.
The fact that players voted for some nonsense science mumbo jumbo over getting to see a being like abaddon (and probably other dieties in the game) and his fall is beyond me. How could ANYBODY want the first over that?
Was there ever confirmation that the dungeons were one or the other? I seem to recall getting the impression that the vote was mainly for which one would be released FIRST. Winner got released 2013 – but there was nothing (at least on the release page) that suggested we wouldn’t get the Abaddon fractal at all (eg, 2014). If there was a confirmation somewhere else, then I missed it.
Also, there wasn’t elaboration on what the Abaddon fractal would consist of? I don’t think we’d actually get up close with the big bad himself. The gods are supposed to be these untouchable beings of immense power and playing on their level would just negate that feeling. And if you got to play as the other five gods, your party could be dying all over the place, again, removing the feeling of them being these powerful entities. If that’s how the fractal was going to be implemented, I know plenty of players who wouldn’t have wanted that.
I have just noticed on the Sky Pirates page, that the scavenger hunt portion of this Living Story will require use of the new book, Sea of Sorrows. I am already a big fan of the books and think this is a nice addition.
“In this new permanent content, retrace the steps of Cobiah Marriner. Twelve plaques have been set up to honor the history of the city and its founder. You can find clues to the plaques’ locations in Sea of Sorrows. Complete the scavenger hunt to earn five skill points.”
However, as far as I can see, the book is only being released along with this chapter in America. The EU date appears to be Aug 1st on some websites, but I can’t see an official date anywhere (these websites have said Aug 1st 2013 for the best part of the last year).
While this is not really a problem as the scavenger hunt will be permanent, it really bugs me that America are getting access to this ahead of everyone else. We will either have to wait to do this scavenger hunt, or rely on the wiki (something I would prefer to avoid).
Is there any confirmation on the EU release date for this book, yet? Please forgive me if I am just being blind or have misunderstood this information.
Apologies if this is in the wrong section. I have checked multiple sections of the forum for a thread on this topic and failed to see any (even using the search tool).
I would love them to be tradeable. I love collecting minis. It was one of my favourite things to do in GW1. I thought doing the same in GW2 would be a nice side to the game, and this Wintersday I bought more boxes than I should have for definite.
In the end I ended up with 4 Festive Golems – the only Wintersday mini I dislike – and millions of dyes and tonics. While I got to craft the Quaggan, I have still realised that gambling gold and real life money on these is ridiculous. I’ll never beat the house. I won’t be buying any more random chance minis for as long as I play this game. I’ve learned my lesson.
I think “Skipping Stones” is a fine example of a timed puzzle. The platforms appear for limited time and there is a wait involved, however, the wait is for that specific part of the puzzle, not for the whole thing. There are parts that give the player a chance to breathe before the next timed part.
I think future event “timed puzzles” should be more like that. Little checkpoints as you go along, with bits appearing and reappearing as you go.
The same could have been done here. The candy canes sticking out of the walls and the floating peppermints could have acted as “break points”, allowing the player a second to breathe and wait for the next bit.
And none of this “loading in” to the puzzle. That is the worst thing. Being in the map but having to load the puzzle. People with slow connections fall behind straight away. In Skipping Stones, you can stand at the beginning when ready, and progress when you want. You’re not forced to try every single attempt.
I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets teleported back to the start for no obvious reason? That added with the wait is what is putting me off this puzzle.
Some people already believe that the Gods aren’t all humans. A couple of them (Dwayna and Lyssa iirc?) are often depicted with wings, and there are many many winged statues in Augory Rock and the Hall of Heroes. I have heard people mention that these gods may actually be Harpies or a similar race, and have once heard a theory that Balthazaar was a Norn.
But the lore about the six gods has always fascinated me due to the mysteries behind it. For starters, how did the original six become gods? Remember that these six became gods before humans arrived on Tyria. There’s a theory that states the six might have travelled through the Mists, Lord Odran style, and arrived on Tyria – however how they ascended from that point is a mystery. Could dragon artefacts be responsible? The Scepter of Orr, The Staff of the Mists, the Searing Cauldron, the Sanguinary Blade, the Krait Orb and even Caladbolg have been speculated to be related to the dragons and clearly grant great power to the wielders. Could the original six have used similar weapons to ascend to godhood?
Another mystery is actually counter-intuitive to something you said in the opening post. Abaddon may not actually be dead. After he was defeated in Nightfall, the player could travel to the Heart of Abaddon; a chamber in the Realm of Torment where Abaddon was said to be keeping his most secretive weapon. However, when the player arrives to this location, instead of a weapon we find a newly created being from the Mists called Razah. Razah has no memories before discovered by the player, and considering the names surrounding him and the lore leading up to his discovery, there is a large possibility that Abaddon may actually have reincarnated into Razah to avoid total destruction.
If you think about the gods as “Seats of Power” that just happened to be filled by humans, then there is every possibility that they could be replaced by the other races. But in my opinion, even if the Charr waged a war against the Six, and took over their seats, the rest of the Charr would still resist them. They have been fooled in the past by all powerful beings and don’t want to be enslaved by gods again.
I see no reason for a retcon. Trees grow from seeds. Seeds come from trees. Something needed to grow the seed that the Pale Tree come from. Why can’t another Pale Tree exist? We have hints that some might already exist in Cantha and Elona already, if I remember my GW1 lore correctly.
Charr: Gladiatorial Competition/Tournament?
Was just passing through and saw this. I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw a Wintersday tournament of some sorts. After all, since release, Rytlock has had a certain specific trophy stashed away in his office which has a big hint to this.
Where do the NPCs get their town clothes anyway? The Master Leatherworker in Divinity’s Reach looks pretty awesome with his leather jacket and belts upon belts. I would love to be able to wear those clothes.
At the moment we are stuck with either our default town clothes, which honestly don’t suit some characters (noble human wears the same clothes as a human raised on the streets) OR we can buy gimmicky clothes off the gem store. Why aren’t there any other “normal” town clothes available?
In fact, I think that there should be craftable town clothes available in each of the three armour crafting lines – or a brand new crafting line just for town clothes – as well as a variety of “Fashion Merchants” around the world.
I know of a Charr in the Charrlands that gives you a headband as an honorary member of his warband. The same could be applied around the world. Save a hekket from a swarm of wasps and get some special tribal head piece. Befriend a grawl to get some body paints. Maybe a Sylvari Fashion Merchant could sell some sort of “grown” clothes to the other races? Or have an Asura Fashion Merchant who creates asuran-style clothes? Norn pelts, anyone?
I see a lot of potential in the Town Clothes system, but the future doesn’t look too bright as it is heavily shadowed under the gem store at the moment..
I got excited recently when I found out that there are Exotic armour sets named after characters in Guild Wars 1. I loved the idea of buying armour to look like Shiro Tagachi, orZho, or Koss.
But when I was finally able to preview these items I was massively let down. They look NOTHING like the character armours from GW1 and instead look like another set of armour for that armour-class. Koss’ Armour, for instance, is RIDICULOUS. Even by its own merits. But to call that abomination Koss’ Armour? It broke my heart, man.. It really did..
I would LOVE to see sets reflect legendary heroes from 250 years ago. Armour sets would be amazing, but I would be equally happy with Town Clothes. Although, that said, I would be happy with ANY Town Clothes right now; Craftable/Fashion Merchants in towns/etc.
