Palawa Joko didn’t kitten an entire species to extinction..

Neither did the mursaat.

When the world was threatened, Joko put aside differences and aided his enemies.

Joko helped us because it was in his best interest. Not the world’s.

If you compare the images of the Exalted to the Mursaat and the Exalted to the Enchanted Armor, they look MUCH more like Enchanted Armor than Mursaat.

And if you compare the images of Krait from Guild Wars 2 to Krait from Guild Wars: EotN, and Krait from Guild Wars 2 to Naga, they look much more like Naga than Krait from Guild Wars: EotN.

Would have much rather they expanded upon old lore and used the mursaat or seers.

New race of floating spellcasters that existed for centuries without us knowing? Feels very shoehorned.

The golden city is just a slap in the face to mursaat fans.

I beg to differ.

So I guess their plan includes violating previously established lore.

I have three words. “Crap” & “That Sucks.”

I was hoping for any old lore to seep in and saw the Mursaat as both a nod to the game we all loved that spawned this one and a chance to see if there were both good and bad Mursaat.

After reading the article, I see how they have infused new lore with the Exalted, but would it kill any of those friggin’ content creators to throw us long time GW1 players a bone?

I am beyond disappointed. Golden cities, winged floating creatures…it should have been mursaat.

Some people are making the argument “Ughh well umm the mursaat are bad guys so how could we ever ally with them?”

First of all, look at the Charr
Secondly, the mursaat were the bad guys only from our perspective. If you understand the lore it’s quite clear that they weren’t inheritably evil…more like tried to save themselves.
Thirdly, even if they were “bad guys” 250 years ago…things change. Working with the mursaat over a common interest adds an extra level of dynamic to the story, and there were a million ways they could have gone with that.

I do not know what they were thinking on this one. Instead of building upon well established lore, they shoehorned in a new race of floating spellcasters when we already have two fan-favorites.

I can not help but feel like Anet does not understand their own lore anymore.

I would really like to prepurchase Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns, but the reason I haven’t thus far is because I would prefer a physical copy.

The reason I prefer a physical copy is because I consider myself a bit of a collector of the franchise. I like having something tangible. With that being said, I’m also quite disappointed that there isn’t a collectors edition of the expansion.

So my question is…

Is there any way to prepurchase a physical copy of Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns?
If not, will there be a way to receive a physical copy later if you prepurchase now?

What happened to Dragon Ball?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I absolutely disagree. I played Guild Wars 1 for about 6 years, and a whole lot of dragon ball every time it was available. However, I much more prefer it in this game. The combat is much more dynamic and skill-based.

The only problem I have with it is that lack of ability to play with your friends. It should just be like conquest where you can join with a party and what ever number of players your lacking just gets slotted with randos.

Seriously gets annoying when you’re teamed with newbs that don’t look at the /team chat and continuously solo run in and get mobbed.

Regardless of what you may or may not believe, this is a real thing that’s happening. If my personal accounts aren’t enough, just look at how dead WvW is. People are getting burnt out and losing interest.

I agree that they put out an astounding amount while the living story is in place, but all that is irrelevant right now. Look at how much content we have added after 1.5 years of Living Story. It doesn’t come remotely close to a full-fledged expansion, that’s likely to have bi-monthly patches in between.

I really enjoyed this latest patch. The story was an improvement from previous patches, and the zone was beautiful with intriguing mechanics, but it was simply not enough.

In fact, the entire living story to date is not enough. Someone recently pointed out to me that by this point in Guild Wars, we already had two full-fledged expansions (or campaigns) added to the game.

I’ve noticed from too many people a dying interest in this game to sit here and say nothing. Friends of mine who are die heart fans of the Guild Wars franchise are going off to other games. I’ve even had to find a new guild due to guildies losing interest and going off as well. I don’t want to give up on Guild Wars 2, but I’m starting to get lonely.

People want real content. It’s not there, and the Living Story has done a poor job at providing it. I think that if Arena Net is so set on sticking with this over a conventional expansion, they need to add far more content every other week than what was provided in this last patch.

Also, how cool would it be to find out that the Canthan people’s obsession with dragons lead the dragon empire to excavate, discover, and bind a nearby sleeping elder dragon?

lol k so OP wants a small group to retake an entire city. Thank god he isn’t a game developer.

I never said that. I understand that many people could care less about story and do mindless killing of mobs in a zerg; it’s good that Anet is satisfying those players. I’d just like to see on top of that some story instances that take longer than 5 minutes for players like myself and the apparent many others.

Working with other ppl > then solo sry just the truth of the world.

I whole-heartily agree! But is button mashing in a zerg of zerkers really what you call working with other players?

Yeah, Jeff, I bet wars are more logical if there were only ten soldiers fighting each other than in a grand scale conflict.

Again, not sure where you’re getting this from, because I don’t recall saying that?

What I wouldn’t mind is having a LA zerk-fest, but a “ten soldiers ‘storm the drill’” story instance on top of that.

If you can’t tag a lot of mobs, you’re screwed. Which is basically a flaw in the gameplay mechanic of choosing how you want to play since if you’re specced for support with not much fir power, aoe or cleave damage, you are awarded with nothing. Hence the zerker dps zerg blobs killing everything and anything in a matter of seconds.

Exactly, I couldn’t have said it any better. This is hence why zerkers need desperately nerfed, supporters need buffed (not necessarily healers), and especially control needs buffed.

Well, maybe not buffed, but zerkers need to be rendered much less useful without support and control, and control needs to be overall much more useful.

Guild Wars 2’s “new and improved” trinity is a total flop at the moment. I like the idea of it much better, but in its current state I’d much rather prefer tank-DPS-heal. Though this is a topic for another thread.

What do you think after a year of LS?

in Living World

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

Overall I’d say it’s short of a failure.

When it first started it was terrible, and even though it has dramatically improved…

They promised an expansion’s worth of content spread out through the course of a year, yet they’ve been far from doing so. The model also prevents players who missed a release, from ever experiencing it.

Also, for a game that depends entirely on microtransactions, they didn’t even make the list of the top 10 games that made the most money from microtransactions last year.

Don’t get me wrong, the Living Story concept is brilliant. Trying to substitute it for an expansion/campaign (what the players want), is asinine. Now if they were to release Living Story updates while the players are waiting for an expansion, they’d might be on to something.

I don’t know if it’s great yet, but it’s certainly good and getting better!

I think the biggest flaw in the writing of the Living Story, is the delivery of information and the amount of information delivered.

Only recently have they given us hints, or dabs of information, to speculate the future story on. They should have been doing this all along, and now be giving us major reveals in these final four releases.

Also, when they first started the current LS chapter, most of the important pieces of story and lore were only available on the website. I think all this has crippled their LS to live up to its full potential. However, I expect the next LS chapter to dramatically improve in these aspects.

Mordremoth's the source of Nightmare?

in Living World

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

Sure looks that way. I’m still conflicted as to whether or not the Sylvari are minions of Mordremoth. If they are then the Nightmare Court is more like the natural state of Sylvari and those of the Pale Tree are the rouge faction.

Though I think the shadow of the dragon in the starter dream is supposed to represent the threat of all the dragons and not specifically Mordremoth. Either way, very interested to find out the truth here.

I’m pretty sure that Arena Net/Colin Johanson/someone has denied the popular theory of the sylvari being minions of Mordremoth, but I could be wrong.

Even though we know that sylvari are immune to elder dragon-corruption, I wonder if Mordremoth is an exception to this rule. This being that the sylvari are plants (creature type) in lore, and assuming that Mordremoth’s corruption is through vegetation.

This is purely based off of minor speculation and theory, considering that we have yet to discover how Mordremoth’s powers work.

Scarlet is suseptable to dragon-corruption

in The Edge of the Mists

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

Theory-crafting warning: please do not read this thread if you’re here to bash on any flaws in what has been speculated. This is purely theory. Other thoughts or adding-on are welcome, however.

She rejected the pale tree and the dream in order to gain her independence. By doing so, she let go of the part of all sylvari that provides immunity to dragon corruption.

What she saw was dragon-related, and now it haunts her. It’s trying to take hold of her. She’s fighting an internal battle between Ceara, the sylvari, and Scarlet, her dragon-corrupted alter ego.

Scarlet is a puppet for an elder dragon, presumably Primodus. By tormenting Ceara through her, Primodus is making Ceara go to great lengths to put an end to the madness she faces. It has resulted in her planning to craft a drill and an army to destroy Primodus, but really all she is doing is allowing him a way to escape from the depths of Tyria, while providing an entire army to corrupt into his minions.

She’s neither good or evil, she’s internally very conflicted. The real evil is the dragon.

Just some quick thoughts: WvW and LS

in The Edge of the Mists

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

First off I’d like to get this off my chest: throwing Living Story into WvW is a bad idea. I understand that it wasn’t much this time, but in the future don’t do it.

For a player that has no desire for WvW, it is very frustrating getting killed again and again by players from other worlds, when your only goal is to complete LS stuff.

Otherwise, I am quite pleased with this patch. I really enjoyed the story instance, even though I wish there was more there. Creating the element of suspense and speculation is what the writers should have been doing all along. It’s really great to finally get some rich story that we’ve been cheated of in that past several months.

Overall:
A for story
D for length
C for departmentalization (forcing players to go into WvW for LS is bad)
A+ for me dreading to have to wait another two weeks to find out what’s next.
