Two new zones and a Dragon -spoilers-

I’m surprised no ones talked about the red arrows coming from each corner of the map. Has no one yet noticed that they are coming from the direction in which four elder dragons are inhabiting?

Top left – Mordremoth.
Top right – Jormag.
Bottom left – DSD.
Bottom right – Kralkatorrik.

Let me edit that for you for factual correctness:

Top left – ( We don’t know where Mordremoth is).
Top right – Jormag is somewhere to the north, north east.
Bottom left – (We don’t know where Bubbles is).
Bottom right – (We don’t know where Kralkatorrik is, but he flew south).

That means you have one or two matches out of four arrows. Pretty sketchy. You could also do this:

Top left – Tengu
Top right – Kodan
Bottom left – Mursaat
Bottom right – Margonites

Basically what I’m saying is, when four arrows point from all directions of the planet, you could attach anything to them. That doesn’t really give us any useful information. Making a connection with the dragons is just as easy as connecting them to some of the races.

No, let me edit you for your factual correctness.

First of all..

I’ve seen you on other threads. Stop pretending to be Konig Des Todes. You don’t know your lore nearly good enough.

Secondly…

Top left – Well, considering that there’s one real jungle that we know about..
Top right – Yes..north-east is where the arrow is coming from.
Bottom left – Bubbles is in the unending ocean (south-west of the continent Tyria)
Bottom right – If you click ‘M’ in-game, you can see a giant purple glob in the desert (That’s where Kralkatorrik is).

And finally…

What’s your deal? I was just giving some speculation.

I really don’t think Scarlet’s evil. I think she’s just insanely genius. Her study of the ley lines (presumably through the energy probes) has allowed her to gain knowledge of the dragons’ where about. She knows big stuff is about to happen. However, she knows that the threat below us is the most dangerous at the moment.

She’s seen what uniting forces can do, through the pact taking down Zhaitan, and she’s trying to do this on a grander scale now herself. Don’t you guys see? When see sends this massive drill in the ground, she’s going to have every alliance present. Including the pact, molten alliance, toxic alliance, and aetherblades, as well as her own little gizmos. That’s one massive force ready to fight a dragon who’s off guard.

Skill lag when in Zergs

I play from a laptop at college. Anytime I play with a large zerg, WvW or world bosses, I get crazy amounts of skill lag that’s unplayable and usually results in a disconnect. All the players around me seem to be fine and do not lag for me, it’s just my skills. Sometimes my character will rubber-band, but the players around me won’t and also don’t freeze. I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix to this problem, or will I just have to exclude myself from WvW and world bosses? :/

Really what I’m complaining about here is the lore and story. My hopes of this game ever returning to the story plots and mysteries that I loved in Guild Wars is the only thing that keeps me playing. After all, I’m playing on college internet that just can’t handle the zerg style playing that this game seems to encourage.

Godzilla-robots, laser cannons, UFOs….does anyone else see this pattern?

The more and more people point out the immense amount of flaws in Scarlet’s character, it seems like the more ridiculous and impractical she becomes.

I saw someone else point out the fact that we have no information on how she gets her funds for these insanely huge and powerful machines she has. Although we still have nearly no information on anything about Scarlet, making her a very uninteresting character in my opinion.

I just kind of get the impression that Arena Net thinks that making things more big, more scary, and more complex is going her compensate for the lack of quality put into her character.

As Albert Einstein once said, “Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius-and a lot of courage-to move in the opposite direction.”

I’ve always said this. What if Scarlet isn’t necessarily bad, she’s just using desperate measures? All her alliances could be a way to combat something like an elder dragon.

Remember, she has worked with the inquest, and the inquest are like this. The inquest aren’t “evil,” they are just selfish, desperate, and careless.

PLEASE START WORKING ON AN EXPANSION. If you already are, ANNOUNCE IT. The Living World is only good as long as there’s an expansion that players are waiting for. It’s been said thousands of times, but its the truth.

I heard something about someone datamining something about a “VIP membership” that would basically be an optional subscription fee. Are you serious Anet?!?!?!? This game doesn’t need a subscription fee, it needs an expansion.

The Living World/Story has dramatically improved since it’s debut. Regardless, it is overall boring and predictable. This game needs some real direction.

If set that she’s going to attack a city with an asura gate, I’d prefer something like Ebonhawk. There’s absolutely no reason for anyone to go there, it’s hardly been touched in this game.

I just want something to spark my interest in this game. The childish-picturebook story telling is getting really old. Really, the only thing that propels me to hop on the forums is my love for the Guild Wars 1 story. People complained about Abaddon and Kormir, but they were way better than sky pirates and lore-breaking alliances.

Attack on Lion’s Arch?
bleh. Way too predictable & boring, just like everything else done by Scarlet to this point. I really hope they can pull off something at least semi-interesting with these final releases.

Besides, Lion’s Arch was already attacked. If they’re going to do something as predictable as her attacking a city, at least do a place that we’re not expecting. I also see really no point for Scarlet to attack Lion’s Arch. Then again, I really see no point in anything else that she’s done other than to solidify her character as a cardboard-cutout-villain.

Stop trying to change it, and go back to building upon and solidifying it.

emphasis mine… Stop trying to change it. that’s a great suggestion. I feel like with GW2 they were somehow embarrassed by GW1 & tried to do everything they could to hide the old stuff. I mean is even visually unrecognizable. The characters just feel weird with maybe the exception of Tybalt & Fulgar. dunno… the world looks absolutely amazing, but everything feels off.. kinda started with EotN, but…

Look at even how much they’ve changed things from EotN and Beyond! It’s not for the better..

I mean come onnnn. Do I really need to type paragraphs & paragraphs of why? The living world is only good as long as people are waiting for an expansion. Otherwise it just gets boring and old. Alone, it’s not sufficient and it doesn’t stand a chance against these new MMOs coming out.

Arena Net needs sometime to advertise. Something to make some real profit on. The gem store is not going to suffice in the near future. I guarantee it. If you’re active in the community you can tell that people are getting more and more bored and talking more and more about these other MMOs coming out.

This game needs some real new to it. Real content, real story, real endgame…I could go on and on. It needs a real reason to keep the player’s interest in the game, other than just to hold them off until these new MMOs come out. I played Guild Wars for 6 years until this game came out, then I switched over. I was always a huge fan of the lore, style, and philosophy, but now I’m contemplating switching to something new from the direction this game is heading in.

Get it together, Arena Net. This game needs an expansion.

This is a relatively useless skill. The healing on it isn’t all that great and the recharge is about the same as most heal skills, if not longer.

Change this skill to reflect more of the “monk” style in guild wars. Make it give healing to you and all allies in a small radius. It would still not be as powerful as a profession heal, but this change would at least make it an interesting option to work with.

3rd Heavy Armor Class: The Dervish

in Suggestions

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

The Dervish channels the power of gods, spirits, racial heroes, and ancestors. It represents a belief in balance between support and damage. It has pre-combat support abilities, with skills that are more powerful when used out of combat.

Notable Boons:
Vigor, Swiftness, Stability, Retaliation

Notable Conditions:
Blind, Vulnerability

Weapons:

Staff (melee) – Primarily a supportive weapon. Good mobility.
Shortbow (ranged) – applies vulnerability.
Dagger (melee) – applies blind
Sword (ranged) – uses aspects of nature to damage from a distance
Focus (offhand) – supportive spells
Scythe (melee) – new weapon. uses earth and wind magic.

Skill types:

Profession mechanic – Mysticism: maybe periodically applies boons, when used maybe transfers boons to allies and conditions to foes.

Signets
Prayers – calls to spirits for supportive and damage abilities
Rituals – Summons a Djinn based on earth or wind, or a spirit based on the race/religion. The summon may apply a passive effect or deal damage, and has relatively low health. Lives until slain.
Vows – grants an effect that lasts until struck by a foe. Some have a post effect.
Interventions – grants a passive effect that triggers when a prerequisite is met

By no means is this complete. This is just some ideas and proposals. Other thoughts and opinions are welcome.

Scarlet: What are your thoughts?

in Living World

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

…She was behind the thaumanova reactor…

If Scarlet is behind the Thaumanova Reactor, I will seriously cry.

The idea floating around of Scarlet being a minion of Mordremoth is just stupid. Scarlet uses technology. She clearly has a will of her own, and a reason for doing the things she does, even if it’s not known why right now. The elder dragons and their minions are forces of nature. Elder dragon champions don’t need technology, nor do they have their own desires other than in extremely rare cases (even then it’s arguable). They are corrupted, and have one purpose which is to serve their master.

If Scarlet ends up being a minion of Mordremoth that would not make any sense. If anything it would break the lore even more, and we all know she’s already done enough of that.

Nightfall, not Nightmares.

in Living World

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

I just want to start off by saying that this post is not about the problems with the Living Story and its lore. It’s been recently brought to my attention that Bobby Stein has addressed that Arena Net is aware of these problems, and is working towards them. However, we will probably not see changes for months until the next chapter of the Living Story is released.

When you already have something good, don’t mess it up. I guess this is what I’m implying in the title and this post.

Nightfall was the final chapter in the Guild Wars Trilogy. While it had a story of its own, it wrapped up the major loose ends of the saga. This campaign however, was by far the best writing that Arena Net has produced in any release to date. It was built almost entirely from already established lore. It had multiple subplots, and while most concluded at the end, some of them didn’t and are still inconclusive in Guild Wars 2’s time.

There was themes such as romance, slavery versus freedom, blindness versus true sight (metaphoric and literally), secrets versus truth, trial and error, and many, many more. These ultimately played with your emotions, really giving you the feeling of immerse in the vast world that Guild Wars was by this time. If Guild Wars Prophesies and Factions were good, Nightfall was fantastic.

That being said, if Arena Net mastered it with Nightfall, why has there been so much disappointment in the Personal Story and Living Story? Granted, there will always be disappointment from some players, but the presence in these two parts of Guild Wars 2 is undeniable.

The answer is because they’ve drifted away from the good things that they already had. Not just in lore, but in story design as well. Whether it was from hastily trying to get the game out, budgets, or simply opting to try something different, no one know besides the people in the studio. I certainly don’t, but one thing I do know is that Guild Wars 2 has yet to produce such emotions as the Guild Wars trilogy did for me. The Personal Story had it’s moments, but it didn’t live up to the five years worth of high expectations. The Living Story just feels like a bunch of disjointed plots where some don’t even feel right in the Guild Wars universe to begin with.

So I’m asking Arena Net to please go back to your previous works. Study them, strengths and flaws, and use them to produce the best writing in the Guild Wars universe in the next chapter of the Living World. You really have a great world to work with. Stop trying to change it, and go back to building upon and solidifying it.

I know it's a stretch, but Abaddon?

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

No.

Abbaddon was the Scarlet of GW1 lore.

Everything made sense, and then all of a sudden “Abbaddon was behind all of everything since the beginning! We just never told you because we made it up just now and retconned it to make him seem more important.”

Don’t you ever, ever, compare Scarlet to godly lore such as Abaddon again. EVER
However, I do see your point to a degree, especially with the fortune teller being a demon. But in actuality, it made sense. Without this being true, she was just a crazy lady with no apparent motives to cause chaos. Hmmm kinda sounds like another character we know…

I think everything being tied to Abaddon fit quite superbly. He was mentioned in the first game, and at the end of Nightfall it was almost like he was there the entire time. Right infront of our faces, he was playing us, where the veil to the mist was thin, from the very beginning. Was Abaddon the bad guy, or was it us the players?

Not to mention that Nightfall was by far the best writing Arena Net has produced thus far.

Just because someone says something, doesn’t mean you have to agree? You could have an entirely different opinion or even just slightly agree. I wouldn’t call that peer pressure at all. Nobody’s threatening anyone to get on the forums and rage about Scarlet.

Look Arena Net, if we wanted a cheesy villain we’d watch Sunday morning cartoons or read comic books…

Okay my jokes over, onto the seriousness.

Most players can agree that it’s no secret that Scarlet’s story is overall bland, boring, generic, and uninteresting. Some players believe that her storyline will be revived, fused with older lore, and turned into interesting. However, I completely disagree with this approach.

You have to understand something, Arena Net, the damage is already done. No matter what you attempt to do to Scarlet’s story, my guildies and I will cringe after seeing/hearing her name. The more and more we do so, the less and less interested we become in this game, the storyline, and wasting our paychecks on RNG items in the cash shop.

Although being one of the largest communities in the game, the lore-fans are possibly the simplest to please. No matter how poor the content, balances, or rewards of a patch, the lore community is satisfied under one condition: the storyline of the update is of quality and fitting to previously placed lore. This condition arguably hasn’t been met yet.

Scarlet needs to be scratched. ASAP. Turn her into another mystery of the game’s universe like the disappearance of the gargoyles (although frankly I find the gargoyles more interesting than Scarlet) and do it in such a way to please the extremely small percentage of fans who do approve of Scarlet’s story. Unless of course the plan is to conclude her quite soon, which I just don’t see happening considering her story thus far.

I am not going to rant about all the flaws in Scarlet, I’ve already done that numerous times. Just understand that they’re there, and there’s way too many. I don’t understand how the same people that wrote the plot, quest dialogues, and backstory in Guild Wars could produce something such as Scarlet, but I’m really hoping to be proven otherwise.

If their plan is to kill her off soon, great. If not, they need to just drop her. Turn her into one of the mysteries of the game-universe that the extremely small percent of players who approve of Scarlet will enjoy. The rest of us will just be thankful her reign is over.

Ranger:
For the ranger, we’ve adjusted the placement of some traits so that rangers should have more build combinations. For example, by swapping Nature’s Vengeance and Spirits Unbound so that rangers can have spirits follow you in tier 2, players can now opt out of the higher damage output from spirits and still have options elsewhere. We also brought up some Marksmanship and a Skirmishing trait to make power specs more appealing. We feel like rangers also currently have too much endurance regeneration through traits. Due to this, we’ve made adjustments to Wilderness Survival traits, and we’ve also brought down the passive of Sun Spirit and the active effect for Storm Spirit.

Can we please get a ranger that doesn’t have to utilize the pet? I’m not the type of person who enjoys relying on NPCs…I’d rather just do my own damage. The fact that every time I enter combat my pet comes out is the only thing that prevents me from buying a character slot and making a ranger. Can you please make it so that a pet may be placed away permanently?

You know… If ANet revealed in the next update that when Scarlet peered beyond the Dream, she actually gazed into the dead face of Abaddon and THAT’S why she went mad… All is forgiven.

Agreed!! I mean it IS a hybrid, but a hybrid of what and what? .. and not much is more “toxic” than Abaddon’s energy, anyone who explored the Realm of Torment area’s could see that. That eye pattern is also on the Margonites .. and there were facial changes on Varesh as it went along (though didn’t make it that far). Does make you wonder .. and hope just a little. lol

I’m not going to rag on Anet like so many players do about every little thing, but I do dislike Scarlet, and if she ends up disappearing off the top of the tower in a puff of smoke again just as we’re about the fight her, it will be quite irritating. This seems like such an epic development in the story, and the perfect time for a monumental, climactic moment for her…and by that I mean her death.

Or, she unleashes a horror much much worse than an Elder Dragon while being mortally wounded. We snag her, drag her back to Lion’s Arch and beat the nectar out of her until she cracks.

Or, during our next encounter with her, the elder dragon Mordremoth comes crashing down out of the sky, landing directly on Scarlet, with an army of plant minions, killing her instantly, and thus allowing us to get back on track with the real lore.

Why still no new race?

in Living World

Posted by: Jeff.4680

Jeff.4680

Hell, they might even release the dervish with an update like that because they got locked up in that empire too.

Impossible. The dervish gets his or her powers from direct appeals to the six human gods in the same way that GW1 monks did. That simply can’t work in GW2 because we have techno-Buddhists (asura), agnostics (sylvari) and atheists (charr). Note how the guardian class isn’t like old monks in that they get their powers from their personal beliefs, such as loyalty to friends and willingness to fight for a political or ideological cause). The developers deliberately wrote them that way so all five playable races can use them. Dervishes, on the other hand, are strictly religious in nature, so that means three of the five races couldn’t play as them because they don’t worship the six gods, let alone any other deities. And even if they did add dervishes in a lore-friendly way, what would they do that hasn’t already been done in the existing eight classes? It would be foolish and pointless to double up on something that’s already been done, and guardians already exist as a very similar class. Why would we want another “holy warrior” archetype when one already exists? It would be like adding GW1 assassins when we already have thieves that cover that territory.

I used to have this mind set. But now I realize that it doesn’t matter at all how human centric something it. I mean we have all the other races celebrating wintersday and halloween which are indefinitely human holidays. They could do something with the Dervish like the did with the Monk becoming the Guardian.

Don’t play her living stories then. It’s not like you pay for them or anything. They can release a dungeon with 2 seconds duration and 1 copper as reward. Keep complaining and you might get that.

Easy said than done. A lot of us played Guild Wars for years and were totally engulfed in the lore. It’s such a disappoint to come from that, wait 5 years for this game’s release, and then get crap like Scarlet and Sky Pirates. I’m mean for god’s sake Anet…

Guys, the thing behind her is not related to Abaddon or Margonites. That lore is far too interesting to utilize, and it also has nothing to do with ridiculous “alliances”

This is what your thing behind her is.

Hmmm ive thought this whole thing has been Abaddony for awhile now but i remember Anet officially saying Abaddons story was dead and over…

I wish it was Scarlet’s story who was dead and over, and Abaddon’s that was still going on.

Nahhh the Hoof-hop Alliance is next (centaurs and hylek)! I can see it now, Harathi War Lords with elixir guns, and for the “hybrid boss”…A HORSE-CLOCKWORK-FROG-MAN.

Hoof-hop alliance! Bahahahaha that’s great.

That said, I doubt Scarlet has anything to do with this. The Nightmare Court probably loathe Scarlet as much as she loathes them. I do like this living story so far, but yes, I’d enjoy seeing stories more based in Guild Wars 1’s lore.

But Guild Wars 1 lore is Guild Wars 2 lore. Let’s not lose sight on the fact that this is a sequel.

And nope, it’s Scarlet. I can think of at least once NPC in game that talks about how she suspects Scarlet of being behind the Toxic Alliance. If that’s not enough, this should be. Look at the “coming soon.”

That Humans, Asura, Charr and even Sylvari can play GW2 without Scarlet. That Scarlet will be lost in time, forgotten like a bad memory never to resurface!

If there is one vote that I wish was held, would be to vote Scarlet out of this game!

Woahh is this Inception? Because everyone in my guild, including myself, has had the exact same dream as you.

Scarlet may be a horribly implemented character, but by god is the stuff they come up with, and use her as an excuse for, all kinds of awesome!

I agree that the content has been just shy of awesome, and certainly has come a long way since the days of Flame and Frost: Prelude. However, it’s just such a let-down when you’re playing through this content knowing its because of some crazy, menopause, cliche, 80’s cartoon, salad-lady-villain again and again; in a universe with as much depth as Guild Wars 2 has to it. It’s just such a waste of story.

What’s next? The Hoof-hop Alliance? (Centaurs and Hylek) Give me a break….

Here’s an idea, focus on a single enemy’s progression. Why do we always have to have an “alliance” between two factions that have no business being together? And for god’s sake…please kill off Scarlet.

In Guild Wars, I was so intrigued by the lore. It was a universe with very much depth; full of dark & light stories that made it feel natural. It was almost as if Tyria had existed at it’s own point in time, with all the cultures and history that made it a world. Now we have Sky Pirates, cliche 80’s cartoon villains, alliances between xenophobic races that have no business together…it’s just getting ridiculous.

In Anet’s defense, I was really glad to see them actually acknowledge the krait’s history, and that they are very xenophobic, so this alliance is unusual. Still, at the end of the day, everyone with a cranium know it’s Scarlet once again. I mean, I’ve seen some really good theories about Margonites, Mordremoth, and even Dhuum being involved in this that would make for a great, lore-fitting story. But these are just pointless. When we get to the top of that tower next patch, and Scarlets up there with all sorts of ridiculousness, we’re just going to be crushed. Once again..

Pretty please, can we PLEASE get back to the lore that made the 5-year wait for this game so painful, please?

Here’s hoping it is a Margonite, and that it will lead somewhere good (a new zone, either the undying ocean or the desert, are my hopes)….er not in this patch (I know it won’t happen this year) but I would be happy if it was set up now.

It’s not a margonite:

Scarlet with a krait-bred, NC-sylvari infused margonite-looking creature? I swear, if they dare touch godly lore with Scarlet…

That creature behind her does look a lot like a Margonite. We know that Lord Jadoth and many other margonites are still alive. Being that the margonites once ruled the seas, it would make perfect sense for these to be the krait’s “prophets”.

However, there’s one problem with that theory. Scarlet’s not in it. Therefore, unfortunately I’d have to bet money that its just some “salad-fused-krait” or something again.

As much as I’d love to see Margonites, like much other of the underlying lore, make a return, I’ll be disappointed as long as I see Scarlet standing in front of them. Her story/character is horrendously awful. And that’s a very kind understatement.
