There are some quite substantial rewards that you’d miss out:
Completing story chapters are one of the easiest sources of mastery points, both in Tyria and HoT.
There are ascended trinkets with stats that you can only earn by finishing story achievements (Living story 2 and HoT).In fact, the whole HoT zones and mastery system is gated behind completing the 1st HoT story instance (you can use a guild hall to get into the map, but the mastery is still locked)
Edit: Oops, wrote this before realizing you didn’t have HoT
but aside from missing out on some non-essential items, I wont have any real restrictions for not playing the story will i?
In the main Tyria zones, yes.
In the HoT zones, each zone has a chain of events going on that makes a story of a sort, so you’ll have to deal with that. It may not make much sense if you’ve not done any of the personal/living story, but you can still just do events and go along with the flow without it.
When you get to Dry Top, you may feel a bit lost. There’s a path that the story shows you, that you’re supposed to follow to open up the zone past the town. Just look inside the buildings when you get to the town, and you’ll find a tunnel in one that leads to the rest of the zone.
Other than that, all you’ll miss out on are rewards that you can live without, and access to the shortcut asura gates in Fort Trinity.
As for the heart “quests” in most non HoT zones, you don’t have to do them. But I would suggest doing them anyway for EXP and to unlock the heart person as a merchant. It’s good EXP, and you usually clear them if you do any events in the area anyway.
Edit: Actually, if you get HoT, you’ll need to run the very first mission of HoT’s story at least once. That gets you into the first HoT zone, and unlocks the Mastery system. But it’s a fairly straightforward mission, and you can ignore them after that if you really want to.
well i most likely wont be getting HoT cuz I’m broke af and it’s pretty expensive, so I dont need to worry about that. And yeah I’ll probably be doing the “heart missions” but not the real story quests. IDK for some reason I just dont like following the story of the game, I like doing my own thing and making my own story in my mind, the way I feel an RPG should be
How far can you get in the game without doing like, story quests and stuff? I’m not one for story at all in almost all games so I don’t really feel like doing story quests or anything, is it still possible for me to play “properly”?
Wow didn’t expect answers so fast XD ok so free players are heavily restricted, thats good then. I was just worried that the free version and the paid ones were exactly the same, which would have been messed up. Thanks everyone!
So I’ve been gone from GW2 for a while now and I came back to find out it’s free to play? That got me thinking, since I bought it a while ago, do people who bought it get any extra benefits over people who play for free?
Perhaps post the specific skin(s) you’re looking for and someone can help you. There are quite a few skins and quite a few ways to get them.
I’m looking for this Greatsword skin
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/gw2-priorys-historical-greatsword.jpg
and this Hammer skin
http://dulfy.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/gw2-priorys-historical-hammer-1.jpg
Where do you find/buy weapon skins? I can find images of existing ones but I can’t find the skins in the gem store or anything.
Main-hand
Mace — Supportive melee weapon that provides AoE regeneration and blocking.
Scepter — Offensive, mid-ranged, spell casting weapon used to immobilize and smite enemies.
Sword — Balanced melee weapon with offense, defense and mobility.Off-hand
Focus — Balanced weapon that provides supportive spells for both offense and self-defense, including condition removal.
Shield — Supportive weapon that provides local AoE projectile defense and protection.
Torch — Offensive weapon that burns enemies while cleansing allies of conditions.http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guardian
If you’re looking for a dual wield set just go with (Sword+Focus). It has the best balance of offensive/defensive abilities and are useful in all modes. The Mace/Shield are designed purely for defense/support which is more for PvP/WvW bunker builds. I haven’t really played around with Shield enough to know if its that good, but the general consensus is that Focus is better. Of course everything has its uses so just try things out and see what works best for your needs.
What is Focus?
Which is your favourite? From what I understand the guardian is supposed to be the tank, made to absorb damage and keep the enemy attention so other players can focus on attack. Because of this, a shield would be a good idea, to me anyway. This would rule out the staff as it’s two handed.
That’s just my opinion though, what does everyone else think?
I like to play solo most of the time, ironic considering the name of the game, I know, but it’s preference. I’m trying to figure out if I should use S/D or D/D, I need to be able to survive since I don’t want to relly on being revived or buffs from magic users.
Which one would be the best fit?
From what I heard, S/D has better defensive skills, and having the dagger in offhand still gives me stealth. which sounds good, but at the same time D/D is apparently more powerful damage wise, and the stealth is there because of my daggers, which sounds like I can kill the enemy quicker while avoiding damage.
Idk though, I’m very new to this game and don’t even know if my info is correct.
Any and all help appreciated!
I’m super new to GW2, but as I’ve been watching a lot of Log Horizon (Anime) I decided to be a thief, becauase it’s the closes thing to a ninja/assasin I could think of.
At some point I got a pistol from an enemy, and realized I could dual-wield it with my dagger, the problem is all my attacks are based on the gun.
Even when I get close to the enemy, I’m still shooting the enemy while my dagger just looks pretty.
What I’m wondering is, how do I properly use dual-wielding and set my skills the way I like them.
I" know nothing haha sorry ^.^’j
Thanks to anyone who can give me adviceFor Pistol and Dagger, you can swap them around. What you’re using is Pistol in mainhand with Dagger in the offhand. You can swap them and then you’ll be using Dagger as your main, with a pistol sidearm.
Though personally, if I was making a Thief based on Akatsuki, I’d go with with Sword/Dagger. Or even Dagger/Dagger.
I couldn’t find a one handed sword, unfortunately, that was the original plan hah, I’ll probably switch once I get one though!
thanks
EDIT
Found a main hand sword, the skills seem really good, but the dagger/dagger dual-wield really reminds me of Akatsuki. Ah, can’t decide >.>
