Honestly, if the amount of grind in this game makes you crazy, please stay away from most F2P games. They would cause you to have a coronary.

I DO stay away from f2p games, which is why I bought this, because Anet promised a different experience. I bought this game under false pretense.

damage in PvE? I know Arenanet loves to communicate with their customers. I also know that the capping issue arises from using the use of a modified 8 year old game engine. My question is “what are the going to do about it”? Have they said anything about the issue that has been the subject of an absurd amount of complaints since Beta?

Very sad what Anet has become nowadays after Anet circa GW1. They atleast communicated with the community somewhat. It was nowhere near Riot’s level of communication but it was there and it was apperant.

This weapon combination has always seemed to lag so far behind the other options. The Initiative costs are insane and there is like no synergy between the skills.

What would it take save for a complete rework for P/P to find it’s way out of the most niche` of niche` spots and into relevance?

Please convince me why I should not just use the most efficient group in the game. The trinity is not dead, just back in a different form. Why should I waste my time with subpar classes in Dungeons and Fractals? The faster I do dungeons the more loot I get the less time I have to spend grinding towards the next piece of ascended gear / my legendary.

What does something like a Condition Necromancer or Flamethrower Engineer or D/D Thief bring to my party besides a lack of clear time?

Stop making so much temporary content.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Joshua.9346

For example, why is SAB temporary? It’s not like it’s some dynamic world altering story.

Furthermore, when you DO add temporary content, how about not making the achievements so grindy and boring? I was deadset on getting a set of Holographic Shattered Wings because it thematically fit my character’s appearance. Like, halfway through the event I realized I could be playing something that I’m actually having fun doing rather than running around popping a bunch of digital fire crackers.

Again, make permanent content, not so much temporary content. Thank you in advance Anet.

Why is there a condition cap anyways?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Joshua.9346

I mean, atleast if there were one, why not make it per individual basis (IE One guy could apply 10 stacks of bleed, the other 10 stacks of bleed, another guy 10 stacks of bleed, etc).

The condition cap just seems arbitrary. I don’t think condition builds will ever truely be able to compete with power builds in PvE otherwise.

2) A slow rollout is better than a full rollout where the tool is completely broken

Is it? I mean, if we’re talking about a half-competent, well payed company, how many things can a LFG Tool break? I mean, ok, they implement it and it doesn’t work properly at release. As long as it’s not breaking any other parts of the game, who cares? And if they release it and it turns out broken, doesn’t that put more pressure on them to get a long overdue, standard feature up-and-running?

I’m having trouble figuring out how these runes/sigils/traits are interacting with each other… Sometimes I can can 15 stacks, other times I have trouble getting 10. How long should I stay in Flamethrower / how often should I switch to my rifle to maximize my might gain if I am using

-Juggernaut (gain might for 15 seconds every 3 seconds… the amount of might will peak at 5 stacks)
-Superior Sigil of Battle (Gain 3 stacks of Might [20 seconds] when you swap to this weapon while in combat)
-Superior Rune of Strength (+20% Might Duration)

I’m wondering if I’ll be desireable in Fractals/Dungeons with this build:

http://intothemists.com/guides/257-fteg_hybrid

I dont have much experience with FT/EG but am looking for a change of pace since I’ve used Grenades and Bombs up to level 80 and use them in PvP. Plus I hear even with Nades the Engi’s DPS is subpar in PvE so I’m looking for a bit more utility/support. The build obviously has more support, but the question is “will PUGs care?”.

Also, the rotations on the thing look hellish especially since I don’t really understand how combo fields work and the battle system seems too hectic with to much effects and crap going on on screen for me to reliably decipher when I should use a skill in coordination with a teammate :-/

I’m trying to figure out what type of gear / specs I should be shooting for.

1) What is the ‘norm’ for Engineers to run nowadays as far as traits/equipment/utilities?

2) Any good Rifle builds (I dislike the hobo sacks that replace the weapon while using kits, I don’t really like Elixers because of their random nature which I feel is just terrible game design, and my rifle fits themeatically with my Engineer)?

3) Are there any really good resource websites with a compilation of builds and guides which are thoroughly analyzed by administrators of the site before they are approved and can be rated by users, like what League of Legends has in solomid.net?

They claim that they don’t want to split the player base between multiple different PvP modes…

But seriously people have been asking for something similar to GW1’s GvG and Hall of Heroes since before the game was released. Are they just going to keep trying to support a subpar game mode till it’s dying breathe? You can shine a kitten as much as you want but it’s still a kitten and I’m a strong believer that a GvG equivalent mode would have a very, very high chance to be very popular and possibly eclipse the cap-the-points mode of this game.

And no I don’t think the cap-the-points is a TERRIBLE mode, but I don’t think it should be the main focus and I believe it only has so much potential. Cap-the-points just isn’t popular in most games and for good reason. There was something original in GvG and it was fun to spectate on, so why unbudgingly try to support sPvP to the point of saying “**** off” to fans of GW1 or anyone who likes having multiple modes in their competitive multiplayer modes (like almost every multiplayer game)?

Engineer vs Elementalist?

Engineer

The Engineer is a highly versatile class. While it doesn’t have the long range capabilities of the Ranger, or the melee capabilities of the Warrior or Guardian, they are comfortable at medium ranges in most fights. They have a lot of control, and use their boons to keep themselves (and allies) alive in a fight. They can use different kits based on the situation, but this extreme versatility comes at a cost in damage on their main hand weapons.

VS

Ele

We see the elementalist as the king of versatility. The skill ceiling for the Ele is exceptional, as the ability to leverage all four attunements at the right time is crucial for understanding the elemetnalist. The Ele boasts some of the best team support and control abilities in the game, as well as some great area of effect damage.

So basically versatility is both their “thing”, except that ANet recognizes that Engi’s sacrifice damage for versatility whereas Ele’s have phenomenal AoE damage. So are they using the higher skill ceiling for Eles as a legit reasoning for making Engineers an inferior class??

I’m sick and tired of living in poverty.

The cost of living is incredibly high. 2 gold for a new piece of cloth armor? Are you kidding?

And let’s not forget about the insanely high taxes. The tax you pay for selling something through the Auction House is insane. Most of the time, it’s more profitable to pawn your goods through a vendor, only to find out that they’ll give you only a handful of copper coins in exchange.

It’s as if all the vendor NPCs are conspiring to keep Tyrians in poverty by selling high and buying extremely low. Most of them sell the exact same products. I can see through their conspiracy. This monopoly cannot go on.

Worst of all, the taxes on Waypoints, a service that should be public and free. At level 80, you are forced to pay between 1-5 silver for using them. This is outrageous. Why do level 1 Tyrians pay less? I’m sick of this class warfare. It’s dividing our great nation.

I’m tired of the 1%, seeing them run around Lion Arch’s with their fancy dancy legendary weapons and tier 3 cultural armor. We need to nerf their ability to attain gold, and improve our economy so the poor and middle class Tyrians can have a fair shot too.

I might be a bit liberally biased, but I’m all for giving the Tyrian middle class a fair shot. I think it’s time all races, professions, whether or not they be players or NPCs, start playing by the same rules.

Thank you, and god bless Tyria. See you at the polls.

In the Asura Starting Area, for your story quest, you should have had to pick from 8 robot masters (Or Golem Masters to be more precise.)

Each one would have their own dungeon with a specific theme, like one would be in the Norn Lands and it’d be an Ice Boss, one would be in the Char lands and be a Fire Boss, etc….

And then after defeating the boss you unlock one of your weapon skills, or get points for your utility skills.

After completing the 8 robot masters, you unlock the first big dungeon where you defeat the Wily King Adelborn, and then you get 8 new dungeons to complete and repeat the process until the end.

Joshua.9346

Why is “PvP Browser” 8v8 as opposed to the same format tPvP / sPvP is (ie 5v5)? Should have taken a hint from LoL, as opposed to making random queue and tournaments in two completely different formats, which only alienates the casuals, resulting in fewer people taking the next step and entering a competitive playstyle because the same strategies that work in one mode don’t necessarily apply to the other. Or was this intentional?

Also, why did they add hot joins and auto balances as opposed to what we had to Guild Wars 1 (and LoL)? A random match queue and a temporary ban from PvP (for a couple minutes) for habitually leaving matches. Or was this too intentional?

I know there were a lot of interviews on their PvP decisions before the game was released. Can someone point me in the right direction?

GW2 needs to get their kitten together quick fast and in a hurry.

You’d think they’d have learned from EA releasing TOR without a basic dungeon/group queuing tool, custom and ranked PvP with ladders, and basic optimization, but I guess not.

Also, why do you not get XP credit for supporting when it is a legitimate role that contributes to the fight as well? Part of the reason why DEs are just zergfests.

Don’t they realize that every other “big game” release is competing to be the next big thing in eSports? If you want to compete with LoL and SC2 you need to include custom game lobbies, you need to include a cohensive ladder and ranking system, you need to make sure your traits and skills are all working at the very basic level (not to say that it has to be bug free, but they all must atleast work), and you need to do it from release, because you are competing with LoL 2012, not LoL beta or SC2 fresh out release.

The first Guild Wars better at release than this, so why the step back?

Actually, GW was named that way because Anet intended pvp to be the end game. It was not named after the lore; the lore was based on that. Anet stated that before Prophecies was released, and reiterated it during the Factions championships. It’s the reason Prophecies and Factions have so much oriented around pvp in them.

Even in PvE in the first Guild Wars you couldn’t get away with that, even as a warrior there was an emphasis on skill combos. Press spamming 1-3 on cool down on my Engineer just doesn’t seem it demands anything from my attention in this game. I am well aware that there are the situational utility skills and some conditional weapon skills but overall this combat system at it’s core just does not feel right, like there is a very large layer of depth that is missing.

Max Level 20 vs Max Level 80: which you enjoy most?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Joshua.9346

Joshua.9346

20, easily. I didn’t buy Guild Wars for grind, yet this game turned out pretty grindy. You have to grind to get weapons/armor with max stats at level 80 whereas you could get a single max piece (minus runes) in Guild Wars in under an hour thanks to collectors.

You could say “oh but the game is all about the adventure” all you want but anykittenMMORPG could say the same thing and tell you to level slow as hell because it’s more fun but fact of the matter is that there is little reason not to be level 80 in this game especially when WvWvW favors those who have level 80 gear as opposed to 20. Same thing with dungeons.

Joshua.9346

Because it just makes the game seem like a spammy zergfest with little resource management, it doesnt help the grindiness (which it doesn’t, as there is a still a lot of grind) or make the PvP any better if that was its intended purpose.

GW1 energy management required skill, in pvp especially HA and GvG energy management and energy denial tactics was itself a subset of game strategy, like with energy drain mesmers and weapon swapping to high energy sets for emergencies.

For instance many skills had high energy cost but low cooldown, such as the monks protective spirit which is almost instant cast to protect against over 10% health damage, this incentivized game sense and correct skill usage, and good monks were able to effectively use it to protect the team without running out of energy, on the other hand bad monks used it wrong or at the wrong times and burned out and probably wiped.

Energy, when done properly like GW1, adds another layer to resource management and strategy, cooldown only systems are similar but dont promote constant active play as a combined system, and generally falls apart in a team situation, ie you would only have “spike” teams which blow their cooldowns to burst down a target then do nothing for a minute later, instead of allowing for pressure builds. The energy aspect alone has more depth to it than GW2’s entire combat system.

I’m just curious about ANet’s perspective, if they have officially stated why they nixxed energy management.
