Buying a gift of gw2 hot for grandson

I want to buy a gift of hot for one of my grandsons who wants to play with the rest of us in the family however, upgrading my other grandkids accounts ran into a major problem a few months ago and all our accounts got ban (yes it all got straitened out and very quickly with the Gm’s support great help!) however I am now very worried about doing anything with any accounts and as he has to put it on his computer I am not sure how to proceed to make sure their is not any mistakes this time. This is a birthday gift yet if I fill in the cc area with my information I am not sure how he can then put it onto his computer with his email, as the cc wants my email tied to my cc. Can anyone help before I make a mistake on this.
P.S. His birthday is today.

Customer Service

First off some back ground – I have played the gw franchise since 2006. I have never had any real problems with the game so had almost little to no contract with customer service for any major issues in all that time. Yet, I have seen many, many complaints about their customer service and have wondered. Well, I finally had a major, believe me, major problem, I contacted the customer service late on the 23rd of Nov (yes only a few days ago) and not only did they promptly let me know that they were working out the issue but they were working hard to resolve the issue. By today on the 27th GM Roxx had fixed it all. Not only that GM Roxx and Area net went, in my opinion, well and above to make the situation right. I understand that others may not have had the same type of experience but for me I am impressed with the level of service I received and believe that they should have the kudos they deserver from me. So to all those at Area net that helped resolve this sticky situation I wanted to thank you publicly.

Everyone who thinks hacking to prove a point is acceptable should have a conversation with those sitting in prision who also thought it was exceptable. Gail I hope you get all your stuff back. Oh and they also stole no matter whether they kept it or gave it away. It was not their’s to do anything with. Sad to see people that believe that the (criminal(hacker)) is not fully accountable for thier behavior. And worse finds it acceptable to blame the victim.

Equal rewards for all game styles

I believe everyone has a type of game play they enjoy whether hardcore raiding, WvW, fractals, dungeons, pve or Spvp I get that. I do not begrudge anyone there style of fun. I do begrudge that one games style gets rewarded with something unique that the other game styles are being left out from. All game styles should be able to acquire the same type of rewards in their game play, however I would not mind if it was in a different but unique style just for that game play. Example: Legendary Armor. Each area of play should have a unique set of Legendary Armor that can be earned through that style of game play. Unique enough that just looking at it tells you the game area it was acquired in, like hey that guy over there has a set of pve Legendary Armor or look that one is wearing WvW legendary armor and so on. This should not take away from another’s sense of reward or achievement while at the same time it does not force a player who hates doing something in what should be fun time for them to be forced to play what they hate to receive a reward that can only be earned that one single way. I am not a developer so I will be the first to admit I have no idea how much work or effort this might take. However, that said it could or might decrease a lot of friction between styles of play. I understand that there will be outcries against this, but I have to wonder, what is the true motivation in denying something to others that does not decrease your own achievements, challenge or fun in the game? Also, please note: I did not disparage any ones style of play nor their qualifications as to whether they are good, bad or indifferent or should L2p and would prefer the same curtsy in return.

I am more than willing to try these changes, I do hope that they keep polling players on what they want before and and more importantly after said change. Also to those wanting pure pvp I personally would not want that at all, there is a game mode for that called spvp. It takes at least a bit of skill to win there. Huge zergs that are truely blobs can just run over smaller groups using little skill most of the time which does not say anything for your personal skill level and more for just brute strenght, so hey if that makes you feel skilled. I have no idea what to say to you. Areanet is trying there best to meet what they believe we want so I will at least try it out then give my thoughts on them.

Yeh, I can see how a blob of 40-60 would love the ability to keep 10-25 opponets from wp’ing. As they laugh about what bad players they ran over are. Lets not forget their high kill/death ratio while they thump their chest and brag. I can see why someone might suggest this to be implemented.

This is what I see with questions like this, the people answering either way for or against is a tiny (really tiny) of what is really going on in the game either way. Anet is truly the only ones with the numbers. Any where from 100k to a couple million players are in this game (I have no clue to the real numbers so not trying to say). So to me an in game poll would be the only accurate way to get the true idea’s of what the majority want or do not want. All I can say is no game survives on only 5% to 10% of the players liking the largest open world content.

Also, I was not posting about not criticizing something just the manner of how it is done. And that those that respond to that posting debating that point have a right to their opinion and point of view also with out being called names or flamed. Also, I believe that If something is not working as it should, bugs and such, I believe that Arenanet has a place to post and report those problems. Separate from the regular forums.

Egocentric

Egocentrism is characterized by preoccupation with one’s own internal world. Egocentrics regard themselves and their own opinions or interests as being the most important or valid. To them, self-relevant information is seen to be more important in shaping one’s judgments than are thoughts about others and other-relevant information.1 Egocentric people are unable to fully understand or to cope with other people’s opinions and the fact that reality can be different from what they are ready to accept. (Psychology 101)

This is to say that I am tired of peoples argument that include all the player base, or even refuse to see that others can have a far different experience. I do see that for what ever reason others do not like the game, I will not say go play another game yet I wonder why you don’t if you hate GW2/HOT and where it is headed. I how ever am happy. Do I find things un-fun in the game. Yes. Always have always will. Yet others find those very things I dislike as fun and I have always understood that. Hence I don’t beg for things I do not like to be removed or changed. Yes, there are things that might come out not right at first but constructive criticism not negative is a far better way to convey it to Arenanet. I have been playing since GW1 and love the game. Yes, I have also struggled with the game at times or get frustrated but eventually find a way around those problems. So yes, criticize yet please keep it civil and please remember we are all not you, nor hold the same opinions.

I don’t post in the forums often. Yet I found I wanted to post this time because I tired of being somehow included as “the masses”. I am really tired of other people deciding what is good or bad by their standards, not mine. Sorry I did not mind the cost of the expansion. Still find it fun and worthwhile playing. Sounded to me that the OP was more about telling us despite his claim otherwise at the start by using words like “not capable” towards ArenaNet or worse inclusion words like “the masses” of which I am one and heartily disagree with you. I like all the new specializations, well most of them, and like where the game is headed. Sorry if you do not. However, please stop using words that try to include us all as if we agree with your opinions or using language that is disparaging to the game or other players. I tend to believe someone if they outright say hey I think this or that instead of trying to use others (falsely) as their base of argument. Plus, understand this My Opinion will not change even if all the rest do. That is just me.

What most are either totally missing or willfully ignoring here that are defending the actions is intent plain and simple. If the action can clearly be seen to be deliberate griefing no matter the subject at hand it should recieve attention from cs. From there it is thier decsion as to what they deem acceptable.

If I report someone for what I deem is offensive or harassment is my choice. Areanet owns the game and ultimately they will have the final say. Will I always be happy with thier decsions, most likly not. However, if you feel like griefing others and are reported and deemed to actually have been griefing for whatever reason then you should be reasonably punished for said actions. Star Wars is not the issue here the issue here is deliberate and malicious actions by some towards others.

That being said it would be nice if things could get a trail period with community feedback before permantly added. I due understand the problems with dev time if something does not work out but the long run would be a healthier wvw in the end.

I think these are an excellent start. I do not think the boarderlands are bad they just need to have the pve taken out and wp put back to the way it use to be. If you hold a keep to T3 you fought harder to keep it and the attackers fought to keep you from upgrading it for the stratigic advantage it gave to you. So yes, I think these are all a step in the right direction. Would just like to see the other stuff looked at also.

As you have pointed out so loudly to you everything is wrong in wvw and only your opinions matter so be it. However, I enjoy the game and play for my server, my guild and my friends. Personally, I find open world PvP tedious. It lacks overall strategic importance in its gameplay and does not feature any higher level tactical and/or strategic coordination.

Ultimately, I find those games shallow.

So, basically, just like WvW. Objectives that mean nothing, produce no rewards, and can not be held for any meaningful length of time.

WvW is just as shallow as any random open world gankfest. You’re just randomly ganking buildings. That’s the primary problem with WvW. Good siege implementations actually attach benefits to owning and holding territory for the players that hold them.

I can earn more gold losing wvw than winning wvw. Score is pointless and awards nothing of material value. Being attached to allies based on server selection in stead of by choice makes the teams meaningless.

RvR in general is an annoying concept, but its an absolutely stupid concept when it doesn’t even award your realm anything for winning

Ganking people in obsidian sanctum has deeper and more strategic gameplay than the rest of wvw combined. There’s an actual objective with an actual reward that you can actually deny your enemy from obtaining.

Seems we are both playing a different MMO. The MMO I am playing (GW2 and Hot) a reward means to be given something of value or one of the currencies designed by GW2 to be used in game to acquire game items. When I take a camp, tower keep or Stonemist castle with those I run with I am rewarded with several currencies’ within the game. If I hit any of the vet’s or champs I get bags if I kill any player or assist in killing any player I am rewarded with bags. I believe that constitutes a reward by this MMO’s standards. I also acquire wxp and experience.
Their are rewards to your world just very few pay any attention. If you have no idea what I am talking about it seems you don’t play much Wvw (hint even the pve players on your world benefits from how well your server plays without stepping one foot into Wvw so yes there is a server benefit.)
Please by all means losing to gain more gold is new to me please explain that statement in greater detail. I would really like to know how this is accomplished.
Wvw might be an annoying concept to you but to those that Wvw all the time it is not so that is pure opinion.
Please explain in enough detail for me to understand how ganking players in obsidian sanctum has deeper meaning and more strategic game play then the rest of Wvw combined. Sounds again like more of an opinion (which you are entitled to) than an actual fact.

Fact:

Pve Players on your world derive no benefit from WvW. This was how it worked at release, and anet removed this feature shortly after launch because PvE players complained it was unfair. pvE players aren’t even separated by server any more. Megaserver simply dumps everyone in to fresh maps and allows them to taxi around. The only place where server selection matters any more is determining which wvw team you’re on. I’m guessing you haven’t been keeping up.

Fact:

I can get more wxp and loot from murdering people in a field than taking an objective. I can get more wxp and loot from failing to defend a keep than I can get from taking down a keep. The majority of material rewards in WvW are a result of player kills or flipping. The objectives themselves confer zero benefit. In fact, losing a lot of keeps in rapid succession has been the most money I’ve made off of wvw. Just get an arrow cart, aim it at a superior force, and collect bags until they breach the wall, then move to the next one. You’ll make far more money and wxp than the guys that just took over your keeps.

Fact:

You gain score for owning objectives. You do not gain loot for owning objectives. You gain loot for flipping objectives and killing people. You will come out richer from wvw if you do exactly what people do in EOTM. Run around in circles and flip stuff. There is no strategic depth that corresponds with earning potential. There is no incentive to defend objectives. The only incentives that exist are to remain on the offensive perpetually. The only people playing the game as designed are doing so by choosing to play less efficiently in terms of personal reward so that they can maintain PPT

Playing the game as intended, attempting to win the matchup, does not pay as well as attacking undefended objectives or simply killing people regardless of where they are. in any siege game with depth and purpose, material reward is gained from controlling territory, which creates meaningful fights. WvW’s objectives are meaningless from a reward standpoint, and serve only to tick points on a scoreboard that does nothing to award players for their efforts aside from rank up on a leaderboard. This is in stark contrast to a well designed siege game in which the primary motivator for warfare is personal gain which works with rather than against the primary goal structure of the game.

WvW is a system of all gain, and zero loss. It is a shallow system with meaningless objectives that only serve a niche community that cares about scoreboards more than income. It is hampered by weak objectives that are unsatisfying to own, and only marginally satisfying to take over. It is a rapid fire misinterpretation of siege game play designed to creat ’action packed" game play, and does at at the detriment of strategic depth or meaning that makes siege systems compelling to play. It is devoid of any sense of ownership, player agency, or adequate reward.

Until this is fixed it’s going to have population problems. You don’t have to take my work on it. You only need to step in to WvW on any server and see for yourself. Even at T1 per-realm population is hilariously low, often not even approaching the cap for most maps any night after reset. And these are the servers that are “serious” about WvW. I recently moved to gate of madness, down several tiers, from tarnished coast specifically because I no longer give a crap about wvw and can just kick out my wvw guild missions easily on unpopulated maps and move on with my day. That’s how badly wvw rewards “proper” play. So badly I actually left a populated server with competitive rankings because I realized that those competitive rankings did nothing but cost more than they paid out in siege. At least now I can make a few gold a week pvdooring guild missions and don’t feel like I’m wasting my time.

If you want people to care about WvW, and you want people to play WvW in stead of keep flipping and ktraining, you have to make the rewards reflect the intent of play. Currently the rewards are horrible, they reward the wrong things, and there is more incentive to let someone else take ownership of an objective than to claim it for your own guild, as it costs you more to to slot tactics, and pays out nothing for doing so.

I want it to work, but the current reward system isn’t going to cut it. Until the primary method of earning wxp and loot mirrors the primary method of winning matches, nobody is going to care.

Ok I am not a programmer nor a mathematician so please if this is way off the mark so be it. However, as it stands right now could we possibly evenly distribute the servers to make 3 alliances while each server keeps it identity within the alliance. I believe that would be like 8 servers to each alliance. If they matched them as closely as possible in numbers it might work and would allow servers to maintain their own server presence within an alliance.

First off please do not allow commanders to be capable of kicking any one as many would abuse this feature to make others conform to what they believe is how to play. I and a lot that are not in this forum would find that it would decrease our fun in the game in general, ditto for them to see your build. The commanders function is to bring players together as a whole and to focus where and when to go someplace that being said the easiest way to do this is
1. Various colored tags
2. Various shapes to tags
3. Less map suppression for chat
4. Larger radius for supply check

I am confused about tags being private. If you do not want to be followed except by a select few why bother getting one, exception Guilds those should be able to be both public and private. Last point when new people show up in wvw and someone tells them to get on a tag their should at least be a tag to see.

Also commanders do not need any buffs for them or their squad as it then allows an unfair advantage to only those in a squad on a commander.

I do understand that they may or may not be able to implement some if not all and I do appreciate the chance to have some input whether or not it gets used. And yes I have a commander tag.

Color tags that also have shapes to designate type commander: such as offences/defensive/roamers. This is needed quickly so I would favor that over a complete overhaul. Increase the number that can join a squad and increase radius of supply/numbers count. I would prefer that commanders not be allowed to kick anyone unless they have logged off as this tends to lead to a type of exclusivity by a lot of players. Wvw is supposed to be open at any time to any player, but if someone who is not in a large guild or their guild is mostly pve they might find it hard to even get to play and leave before getting a chance to learn if they like it. Every one should be able to play without being worried about getting kicked for not being good enough.

I played for 5 years of the first gw and truthfully only quit to play gw 2. I am saying that so that I can make the point I wanted to. In the first game within less then around a month with friends help I was at the cap of 20. This at first left me feeling like what now, but I kept playing just to see what more in case I missed something along the way. What I found was that they keep naturally adding stuff the holiday events were huge and fun, and somehow I have yet to achieve all I wanted to even when I left to play gw2. I sense that this game is going to turn into the same thing don’t rush give it time and 5 years from now I will still be playing it if it is out. Also not everyone wants the same thing from a game I know alot of people who only played a short while on gw and left never to come back and found games they did stay with. The point is I love this game the way it is, they will add content and the holidays are coming. If you don’t stay that is your choice but I am tired of naysayers. I would prefer discussion to be more focused on what is good and what we would like to see added as opposed to just basically this game is bad in a long winded explanation. Are you trying to convince others of your wanting to leave cause I don’t care if you do just wish you could do it quietly.
