I agree that the map was confusing to navigate, but then that could be on me. I get lost really easily and the layers to the map are going to take some getting used to.
I wasn’t hugely invested in the events and I felt they all lasted too long. After initially escorting Laranthir to the ruins, there’s an event to defend a char who is setting up explosives. That went way too slow, to the point I was bored.
I’m also concerned about how the map will function if there are too few people in the map instance. SW suffers from this. If you don’t have enough people to defend, you can never get the meta event to occur. I didn’t play long enough in beta to fully understand how the event chain works, but I’m worried this may be a problem.
Thanks to all who answered my question about swapping between elite weapon sets and the regular weapons. Now I’m excited about this. It really opens up a lot of new possibilities.
Though to call it an elite spec is a bit suspect if it’s just another weapon set and a few more skills. I wonder if it will be more powerful than the other sets?
Can someone explain to me how the elite specs work? Is it basically just another weapon set or does it take over your character? I like the new elites if I can swap it out for another weapon set but not so much if it takes over all the character abilities.
For example, can I use GS and still swap to staff if I choose the elite spec? Thanks.
I’d be happy if I could just vendor the stuff, in all honestly. I have zero interest in crafting. I will never have ascended armor or weapons. I will never have a legendary. I’m fine with that. But it’s getting tiresome deleting the stacks of ascended crafting materials. I get that you don’t want us to sell them at the Trading Post, but please put a reasonable vendor value on them so they’re not entirely worthless to me. I’d love that.
Variety. In previous games, I tended to stick with female, being female myself, but there is so much voice acting in this game that I wanted more variety. Listening to the same voice over and over got annoying. So instead of making two human females, I made one male. Plus I hate the way light armors look on females. Why are they so skimpy? It really bugs. So my ele and my mesmer are male. The male characters look stately and distinguished in light armors, females just look trashy.
Also, I like to write. I write from both the female and male perspective with no issues. And my avatars are basically just characters. I don’t see the big deal. Shrug.
My biggest problem with the dailies is how specific they are. I think Ascalon lumberer or Kryta vista viewer are perfect. These can be completed in any of the Ascalon/Krytan zones. What really annoys are the event completer and boss achievements. Why can’t they be more open? I can rarely get the boss one done because you have to be on at a specific time to fight it, and the event completion can be a pain when everyone is trying to complete it, particularly in low level areas.
I’d prefer it if it were more like kill any world boss or complete any four events in Shiverpeaks and so on. Give us a little bit more leeway. Instead, I find myself jumping into WvW simply because it’s my only other option.
Thanks for the reply. I actually did a forum search for character slot and nothing came up. Strange. Anyway, thanks again!
Has any information been given about whether we’ll receive additional character slots with the expansion? I think I read somewhere that we might be getting one more for the new profession, but is that the only one?
I have been wanting to create a new character but am out of slots, but I’m willing to wait. Why waste $10 on another slot if we’ll be getting more. Thanks.
Same thing happened to me after making a new character. I was like what the heck. I do have a GW1 account linked, but I don’t think I got far enough into the game to get any points. I also received an rewards chest for hitting 6500. It’s sitting in my inventory, waiting until I hear what they plan to do.
When this happened to me, I closed the game client and restarted. That fixed it. Maybe I got lucky.
I’m so glad you posted this. I thought I was going crazy. I was in the Edge of the Mists with no one else around, yet I kept hearing random class/race shouts. It was freaking me out. Funny bug.
I’m also having this issue, and there are a couple of other threads floating around posting about the same issue, so you are definitely not alone. Anet has commented in the other threads that they are working on it so they are aware of the problem. At this point, all we can do is wait.
Most of the changes don’t bother me. I prefer the new way of unlocking the weapon skills by level instead of on use. It was especially frustrating to unlock each new weapon skill on an elementalist prior to the patch.
Changes I would like to see: weapon swapping back to level 7 or at the very latest level 10. I also greatly dislike the change to skill points. I understand not putting them on the map, but if I come across one before level 13, please let me access it. It’s annoying to have to go back for them. They should function exactly like vistas.
Also, slightly off topic, but what’s going on with the bugs to the personal story? As I noted in the bug forum, as well as many others, some of us are stuck on the level 10 portion of the story because it’s bugged or something. Any word on a fix for that? Thanks.
Chris, thanks for taking the time to comment here. I was just saying in another thread how frustrating it was that we’ve heard very little in regards to what’s going on with the feature patch. I agree that a write up somewhere about what is intended and what is a bug is a must. That will help tremendously.
That being said, keep your chin up. I’m sure it’s been tough dealing with some of the anger directed your way, but you taking the time to respond can only help.
You aren’t the only one. I’m stuck on the exact same step, and it’s been mentioned in another thread. I hit level 10 and ran into the same problem you did.
I understand if it takes time to fix, but I would appreciate a comment from someone. Is it being looked into? Is there a workaround? At this point, I’m thinking it would be easier to make another character and choose a different storyline.
There are tons of questions about issues with this patch, but almost nothing has been addressed. It’s frustrating.

Help! My personal storyline is officially “broken”! I can’t progress at all & this is near the start of the game. Here are the details for my Sylvari>
Personal Storyline (my actual character level is 69):
Awakening (Level 10) Mender Aviala
“Speak to Mender Aviala” << is ticked
There is no green star on the map, no cutscene, no instances. Whenever I try to talk to the Mender Aviala she gives me normal dialogue options which lead nowhere. I’m at the point where you have to get the Troll Salve & its for the Moon Shield path. Can someone please look into this as I’m not alone and other players are having the exact same issue. Is there anything I can do to bypass this? Plz Help!!!
And yes I’ve tried relogging, patching to latest patch, rebooting. And I only see a green star if I’m not on the Caledon Map, but once I’m on the map the green star completely disappears altogether! /unquote
Sorry, I can’t figure out how to make it quote, but I’m having the exact same issue.
But that’s not my issue. I am level 10. I received the in game mail to start my story quest, and there is no green star to guide me. I was directed to speak to Mender Aviala. I had to find her on my own, and once I spoke to her she acted like we’d already had a conversation and asked me if I completed the next step in getting the troll salve or some such thing. I don’t know where that it. Nothing is on the map. This is the first step of the story, so something isn’t right.
I’m having the same issue on a new sylvari character. I hit level ten and got the mail to talk to Mender Aviala, and there was nothing pointing the way. I found her and when I talked to her she acted like I’d already been there and asked me if I got the troll stuff needed for the quest. There is no further direction so I’m kind of stuck. This is for the Awakening level 10 story.
You have my sympathy. That’s terrible. Have you contacted support? Can they do anything at all? Might be worth a try.
I have a person guild as well and had been very worried about doing what you described. It’s easier to do than one would think. I have since invited my husband to the guild as backup. Very sound advice.
