Hello all. I quit GW2 before the Gates of Maguuma patch was released and I wanted to start playing again, trying to catch up with the current updates and changes. What did I miss so far? Is there a collection of the patches I missed with class changes? Or do I have to log in and start discovering the game from the beginning again? Because, if that is the case, it is really disheartening.
Thank you in advance

I found out pretty late about dire gear, just 2 months before ascended armor was introduced. I really liked the idea of a tanky condition set that could utilize maintenance oils to the maximum and get more dmg with the vitality->condition dmg trait. So I could end up with a reasonable amount of precision to benefit from incendiary powder and 33% chance of extra bleed.
I am running at the moment 2 kits (grenades and toolkit) and rocket boots. Weapons are P/S with healing turret. I use undead runes and sigils of torment and corruption. Food is rare veggie pizza.
I play mostly pve atm, running fractals and a bit of wvw.
What are your thoughts on dire gear and my current build?
Why is dire gear so unpopular (maybe because pvers don’t like conditions that much)?

Would love to see more love towards condi specs and people trying to perform well with them. I’ve been playing zerker builds with my engineer since I reached 80, got tired/bored and thought I’d try some conditions, mainly due to WvW. But then again I would like to stick to a similar build for running fractas etc. I am currently on my way to a Dire ascended armor, undead runes, P/S with sigil of torment and corruption. I use maintenance oil which rocks with dire stats. On unforgiving fights for melee range I switch tool kit with elixir gun.

Though many players I encounter find my choice bad at the least, I think that apart from the damage that I offer, there is endless potential to the utility.

Still a bit of a waste of money, but if you ’re lucky wonders happen.

Got a Portal Device as a drop from Scarlet’s Invasion today. Used it and it ported me to the end of Spelunker’s Delve jumping puzzle. And hadn’t completed it before. Not bad for a freebie

Just want to clear one small thing up.
Noob is usually an insult to a “skilled” player, while Newb refers to a new player. When someone stands in fire or messes something up that upsets the team when they should know better, they are referred to as a Noob in an insulting manner. But when someone is new and you are teaching them how to do something, and they make mistakes based on first time experiences, they are referred to as a Newb for being new.
At least, that’s how it was back in my day of gaming. Don’t know if it has changed since then.
And thanks on the “OOC” part. I never knew that meant out of combat. All my times playing on RP servers, it always meant out of character. Was weird seeing people say that all the time in dungeons. Kept thinking they were roleplaying.
Dear sir, you are correct. As a matter of fact I think there has been an Internet evolution of the newb —→ noob. Though I think it started as you stated above that, a newb or newbie is a person who is new to the game/activity, therefore unaware of many details that many regulars take for granted. Then there were some games that promoted competitive online interaction. With random teams or against other randoms 1v1. A player familiar with the mechanics/content of the game, having spent 100s of hours on trivial details of the activity, challenges others or is challenged against other players or similar, lower or equal ability and commitment. The result is a player who criticizes others based on performance compared to his own. So to the eyes of a committed antagonistic player you are a noob if you are of lower dedication/skill/knowledge to the game.
I have been fortunate to play many MMORPGs or MMOs in general, some of them more than others, always encountering players with the elitist attitude or very eager to criticize “noobs”. I’ve been a gamer and a dedicated one for 7 years in World of Warcraft, 2 years in Warhammer Online, 1 year Age of Conan, and several months to apiece in Rift, Star Wars:TOR, EvE online.
In all those games I have seen people like these, it’s not just the MMO gaming I think, it’s the internet anonymity shield wall. A very powerful wall, with a unique ability of creating a fallacy that if you are behind it you are all powerful, can do and say anything you want. And I think it’s a fallacy because the internet anonymity though important to promote freedom of speech and opinion over the web, it should be done so constructively, with valid arguments and goals.
Having dug so deep in this issue, we dig up the internet troll
Those rules apply to this person but only for personal goals and only for fun or destroying the fun of others. I will not analyze that, as there are rules for trolls in both forums and in game.
Last but not least, thank you all for your comments and criticism. Let’s make this great game even better with our community.
P.S. This discussion urged me to begin the creation of a MMO acronym/abbreviation list.

Hello everyone. My name is Arijani from the Desolation server. What I intend to do, with all-goodness-in heart is try to utilize my poor English for the sake letting people know how to handle random players into their assault in Twilight Arbor. I was driven to do so from numerous posts I read and personal experiences in PUGs.
1.Dictionary
Noob: A person who is new to the game or has fewer achievement points than you or just entered the dungeon for the first time or dies more than you.
Mob: A mob is monster or any hostile NPC that is not a boss
Boss: A boss is tough moster or hostile NPC, that has significantly more Heath than mobs, gives better loot than mobs and needs q certain approach in order to defeat it. Also, a boss is commonly the main objective of a dungeon.
Aggro: The situation in which the mob/boss is aggravated by your behavior and decides to attack you intead of others in the same dungeon as you are. How this happens? Please consult the wiki for more info.
Kiting: An act of dragging a mob/boss that has aggro on you accord an area for q specific reason. Referred to as kiting due to the similarity of a person flying a kite and dragging it to where he pleases.
OOC: Means out of combat
I felt the need to point out these terms as I shockingly found out that some of my teammates didn’t know.
General Code of Conduct
or
How to behave when socializing online in a gaming environment
1. Be polite. The fact that you don’t look your other teammates in the eye or the chance that you will never meet again doesn’t exclude the option of showing some manners. Bad language for no apparent reason is a factor that will immidiately alienate you from the rest of your team. Do not forget that all of you are in the same place to have fun.
No matter what some people are just rude or you might find that some people are not the best people to work with you. For that there is the block feature.
2. Acknowledge the reason someone has started a vote to kick a teammate. Discuss it, wait, try to find a solution. It could be you in the kicked one’s shoes, finding out you were booted out of a dungeon with no apparent reason.
It occurred to me witnessing teammates of my own seconding a vote to kick someone just because they saw the window. “I thought the guy who imitated the vote had his reasons” is not a valid excuse.
3. People might need a break. 1 or 2 or 5 minutes in my opinion is an understandable period of time in which someone from you team might need to relax, use a restroom or have a sudden issue in RL that needs solving. In this category I think falls the situation of the disconnected teammate. Allow some time to see if the player in question comes back online or just faked a reason to quit the effort of trying a difficult encounter with you.
4. There are more professions than Warrior/Guardian. I was kicked from a TA group just because I was an Engineer. I don’t know if that is a global GW phenomenon, but in many a time have I stumbled upon people saying: LFG … no noob classes, and when I asked what noob classes were I got the response: Engineers, Rangers, Thieves.
I find this sad and ill thought of, since the person looking for a group states that people who choose some classes over others have a greater benefit than us lesser professionals.
I don’t want to sound whiny or kitteny for some issues and I understand that some classes offer resources that others can’t, such as Time Warp, Portals, Warrior dps and banners, Guatdian survivability etc.
Thank you for tolerating my rant from my point of view, with my opinion stated only, ill conceived or not, please comment spread the word or feel free to disagree constructively.

Signed. Please no leader functions, just remove the “get ported out when the one who triggered the instance window leaves the party”

Hi. My name is Arijani and I am an engineer looking for a mature guild (medium sized)that goes into all aspects of the game, be it PvE, WvW or sPvP.
I do love all parts of the game, but I do not want to commit to a guild that requires 100% attendance or rather restricts my RL time.
I am a frequent player, logging on almost every day. Poke Arijani online or pm me.
Thank you for your time
P.S. Glad to chat with anyone who would like to know more. Just thought to keep the post simple yet informative

We are 3 friends who decided to start on a casual guild for those who want some fun in PvE, sPvP (tourneys and whatnot) and some WvW. If you think you are a gamer, who doesn’t want to commit to playing on a set schedule, have some fun, chat with adults and don’t need the formality of an application and a trial period, give us a tell.
Poke us online or pm Arijani, Khemosh, Angus Gerber, Viannos
Thanks for your time

I am 100% NOT trolling whatsoever, but rather trying to make out what can work well with my play style. It’s a legitimate attempt of trying to make out of sPvP and my Engineer. If my I have expressed that poorly in my post I am sorry as English is not my native language.
Seems Reinforced Shield was a mistake indeed, as I did not read it properly. I am thinking Energized Armor or Stabilized Armor. As in how I try to play is as follows:
Start with rifle and Incendiary Ammo to spread some burns. Throw Wrench is for just a bit more dmg or repair a turret from my Supply Crate. I try to play on points, slowing down people with Net Shot→Flame Thrower→Air Blast/flame Blast
From that point on it’s mainly Flamethrower skills until 50% of my health, when I use Elixir H and Tool Kit→Gear shield. I try to maximize efficiency on when I use Throw Elixir R to remove the most conditions I can.
I keep smoke vent for the most dire of moments, as I don’t have Elixir S for that kind of moment.
Box of nails and pry bar are just abit more to the dmg/poking away enemies, as it’s not a real damaging specc. From that point on it’s rinse and repeat.

Hello everyone. I am a total newb here in Guild Wars 2 and I started off with an engineer. I did know that it was a relatively complex profession but I really liked the idea of engineer and versatility there is. I did play a lot of MMOs for years (WoW,EVE,Age of Conan-lol, Warhammer Online, Star Wars) so I was pretty sure I could face the consequences of playing a profession with a relative high skill cap up to par (at some point at least).
I do have to say that GW2 is by far the most appealing MMO I have played so far, though it is soon to come to such conclusions, but I do enjoy leveling and freedom of PvP.
So, I did try several speccs: power rifle, condition pistol/pistol and I didn’t really manage to play effectively. Please note that I play 90% sPvP. Power rifle provided steady damage and some avoidance with elixirs but up to that point. I couldn’t finish any real threats (mesmers, guardians) and ofcourse died horribly to the abomination called a Glass Cannon Thief.
Thus I tried “bunker-like” specc that so far I am looking positively at:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcUQFAUlspyaH5ShF17IRoHFG/GG0j6X37Kqg+B;TkAA1Cto2xsjYH7Oudk7MwA
(copy and paste this link, as it appears a bad link in GW2 preview)
I think that this specc is relative to my playstyle and familiarity with the engineer class, which I do love. It did cross my mind on changing main chracters (going elementalist, warrior or guardian), but I am determined to play effectively as the proffession I chose first and liked the most.
Please comment on that with suggestions, tips, qq on thieves etc.
Thank you all
