GW2 for the game is great to play. However, with all the client crash issues the game has been going through this summer, I would wait until Anet solves it before I played as a new player.
You make it sound like there was a problem with Anet’s game which was not the case. They were targeted by DDoS attacks.
If that were the case, then the clientside crashes wouldn’t be happening primarily during prime time, during the summer. This leads me to be concerned that server capacity/stability might also be an issue. This is further supported by the fact the new Living Story episode was released yesterday, then at prime time the mass client crashes started.
Further, while I’ve been playing MMOs a long time, I’ve not heard of one before that suffered so many successful DDOS attacks. This has been going on for months.
Whether its a serverside issue or constant DDOS attacks, unless resolved, it will kill the playerbase.
This is only one of a few game killing exploits in sPvP right now.
If they don’t fix the prime time mass client crashes before it launches the new content won’t matter.
If they do fix it, it should be awesome.

Since this is happening during prime time and seems to be happening pretty often, can we get an Anet Staff member to respond to this thread and let us know what is happening?
I used this workaround…in addition to adding a string to add an alternate login server. I’m still crashing.
This summer has been a nightmare for NA servers during prime time. It seems like GW2 has been crashing nearly daily. Anet staff do some short term fix…then it starts happening again a week or two later.
I know its not just my client, because Lion’s Arch is near empty…and when people are able to log in, they complain about it in map chat.
Is there a long term fix in the works for this?
Looks like the daily DDOS…server puke…or whatever it is is back. Logged in and Lion’s Arch is a dead zone…then crashed…a few times.
Just call it the “Daily DDOS Attack” Since it happens daily at around prime time.
A connection issue arose late last night (about 11 PM Pacific time Tuesday, July 11) that impacted players in both North America and Europe. After some hours of investigation and work, the issue was resolved for nearly everyone as of approximately 8:00 AM Pacific today (Wednesday, July 12).
I have merged into this thread several separate posts on the subject, and you’ll find the latest news at the end of this thread.
Seeing suddenly extreme loading times. Didn’t have this issue until recently. Would this be related to the ddos attacks? Someone should find them and feed them to Primordius.
The DDOS incidents are usually short-lived and they don’t happen every day, so I don’t think that would account for a substantial period of long loading times. If this is posing a problem — I mean, long load times are never pleasant, but if it’s impacting your gaming — you may wish to submit a ticket so that the team can work with you on this. I sense that this is an individual situation, but the team can provide a diagnostic tool that would be able to analyze what’s going on.
The DDOS issues seemed to have happened EVERY DAY for the last two weeks during prime time. The game becomes unplayable. Unless Anet can come up with a viable solution…this will kill the playerbase.
For over two weeks now this has been an issue and the game is unplayable. Unless Anet solves it, it will kill the game. The attackers only do it during prime time.
The issue was resolved for me, however, as of 10 minutes ago, its back. Why is anet being targeted for DDOS?
I’m having the same issue. I was ok earlier, I logged out and now I cannot log back in because of this error.
I’ve had the same problem…usually in WvW and I lose target when it happens.
Ya, I found it in my browser saved password settings right after I posted this. Thanks again.
I was attempting to reset my password and it turns out I forgot my current one. I went to my email to grab my serial code and found the email from my digital purchase had been deleted.
Is there a way to look at purchase history to obtain the Serial Code from there?
I’ve submitted a ticket, yesterday, still no response.
Any ideas?
I have been playing, casually and otherwise, MMOs since Pre CU SWG. I have played over a dozen such games and I have found that Guild Wars 2 seems to have at least as many, if not more updates to their game many others.
Now I am not a fanboi, nor am I a hardcore player (I enjoy my marriage and full time employement and the benefits gained thereof). What are your perceptions?
