Guild Wars 2 April fools 2015 [merged]

Agree OP, there should have been a common sense call to shelve this April fools and open SAB instead or something. Even having nothing would have been better than the backlash that is going to happen over this. The events from last week are all over the news here in Europe with revelations happening daily. This was the first headline I read this morning before seeing the RT’s on the guild wars 2 twitter so its not unthinkable for people to start getting offended. I realise it may be different elsewhere but the crash is still fresh in people mind here and inevitably people are going to be offended. Personally it’s more annoying than offensive to me, and will just not be logging in for the rest of the day, but I can understand why people are getting upset over it.

Does it look like an attractive update?

I dunno, I think this will just be another step in the Living story updates that will be setting up its conclusion in March. I have basically stopped playing GW2 since before Christmas after getting burned out in WvW and getting 4 lvl 80’s and a lvl 53 that I gave up on. Think the last time I checked I was around 400 hours logged but must check again.

Being quiet honest I think the LS was a major letdown. I remember when it was being announced and that they were not doing “expansions” I was a little worried. Since then my guild ~100 regulars at peak has disbanded and the WvW guild I was in now has about 5-10 playing regularly down from 40+ regulars. Lesser frequented PvE zones now seem to be deserted even on my High pop Server. There is simply no meaningful content to keep guilds together (Yes we did all the Guild Missions) in this game bar some WvW (And even that usually turns into zergfests) which you eventually burn out on.

There needs to be content for 10+ groups, be it GvG or Expanded dungeons or more regular updates like the Tequatl update, not this bitesize achievement grinding they have introduced with the LS. There needs to be something to keep a large group of player playing together, not just gear to grind for individually with each update.

Reading this gives me a little hope that I can get back into it when the “Expansion content updates” start to roll in, with maybe a new gamemode like GvG and new areas being opened up.

As for a new LS we have heard it all before with this television show comparison from Colin Johanson and I would seriously start to question his priorities here. It seems to me that they need to get in some fresh game designers in there because they have had plenty of time to get the LS right but have failed to do so.

I must also add that the actual LS story/lore was pretty brutal that just seemed to be made up on the fly to experiment with the new gameplay mechanics they introduced with each LS update like the invasions or Karka updates.

tldr: Stop with the LS updates that just seem to be experimenting with different types of mechanics, you should have nailed down what works and what doesn’t by now, lose the achievement grind, more meaningful group and guild content, Maybe new zones/classes/race to freshen things up a little closer to traditional expansions.

What happened to Kessex Hills?

in Living World

I was getting really excited about what these goings on in Kessex Hills might mean lore-wise. What are the Krait up to? Has it anything to do with the Deep sea dragon? Maybe they are trying to reach ascended status(Ala GW1) in some misguided manner. Will the Tengu react? After seeing that page about a “previously unseen ally”(Hint wink nudge Scarlet) my heart sank.

I’m all prepared to wait it out and see what they have in store for us but and I will hang in there for the time being so see what will happen to the world of Tyria, but if this another attempt to tie in some LS content with Scarlet(Plotwise) then I am really starting to worry about the direction the Guild Wars franchise is being taken lorewise.

From getting the story so right with Guild wars 1, to the Personal story in GW2 and now to the Living story where there only seems to be a storyline that ties everything that goes on to a catch all type villain, Arenanet really have to start taking a step back and rethink the strategy for building a living breathing world.

The story behind a game is what should be driving the LS. How about developing current conflicts in the game? Introducing a new conflict after some major world changing event. How about tying up some loose ends lorewise. Not a catch all content release schedule where everything is forced to fit plot-wise to one previously unknown character that does not really make sense in the context of the world and is frankly a pretty lame character.

I understand that there may be some overarching plot here that we may eventually find out but the journey there has to be interesting. Attributing everything that is happening to Scarlet is not interesting, it is lazy. Maybe start developing some parallel, seemingly unrelated going’s on that eventually merge into a major event for the world of Tyria. Not some rubbish were Scarlet is up to something again and we have to go out and save the day. (Thank you for saving me but the Princess is in the other castle)

I await the update but just my $0.02

Dunno if this has been mentioned before but Arenanet should implement an alliance system similar to GW1. The Guild Missions can then give guild rewards to every guild in the Alliance if a certain percentage of the guild’s players participitate. Limit it to 5 guilds in an alliance or something.

Good idea but sorry I would disagree as you would be in an alliance and have the big guild doing the work and you would get rewards. I would rather be in my small guild and get chance to work for something. It is all part the fun of working for something. Just currently the grind looks painful.

But I understand why ANET have done this and it is a good idea. Just they just need a patch now to help us small folk out.

I see your point, what could be done is set a threshold for the percentage of players in the guild that must participate, like 50% of online members, for the guild to receive the award. Maybe give reduced rewards to the alliance guilds that have not activated the mission. Would help guilds in working towards unlocking their own missions and in a well managed alliance the guild that activates the mission would be rotated.

Bit of an oversight all right, putting something into the patch notes and not actually checking if it can or has been implemented. So did this happen because nobody in Arenanet or the QA team actually playtest as a Ranger? Jon Peters posted in the Ranger forum promising some much needed work on the Ranger class about 4 months ago but virtually nothing has been addressed in his post since. Seems the class is been ignored, fixing the portrait on a pet icon is not addressing the issues with the class.

Regardless thanks for fixing.

I work as a software developer and deploying builds from an Internal Development server to production/live servers can always be a source of frustration. There seem to be more and more Bugs appearing on the live servers that your QA team are obviously not picking up on in your Internal servers. Whether this is due to load conditions on your live servers or, more worryingly, configuration issues only the dev team can know. My advice, start jumping into some live servers and monitoring what is happening more closely. You may have to update your QA procedure to imitate live servers better.

From what I have started to experience recently, it seems to me that flags are not triggering correctly, be this with story mode quests not proceeding after a cutscene or Jormags Ice wall not spawning correctly.

Impossible to Complete Personal Story

Went to finish my personal story this evening on one of my characters by doing Arah story mode. First time through the quest bugged at the chopper part and was not able to complete it. Spent over an hour opening the gates to Arah and around 30 mins getting to this point in the quest. Tried it a second time with the same group and the same bug occurred again. Crazy that such a game breaking bug with the Personal story can left in the game.

On top of this I was doing the Personal story on another character and got to the Pale tree’s vision part. Got to the last boss and killed him. Cut scene occurred and should have been transported back to the grove, instead was left in the “vision” map with a map marker off the map and I couldn’t continue and had to log out.

As far as I can tell there is too many game breaking bugs in the Personal story to even bother doing it anymore. It seems with each patch they are introducing more and more bugs into the game.

I’ve logged tickets for both of these bugs but i’m not holding my breath for a fix anytime soon, just look at the steel tide bug that has been there for ages.

Was the same for me when I did it last week. Manged to finish the mission using the Mortars but it took a long time! Seems an incredible oversight from Anet since its such a barrier to completing the Personal story. Has it been logged as a Known issue?

Why does the personal story finish in Arah?

Just got to the last mission on Monday evening and have been unable to complete it since. Gates to Arah have been closed and a DE to open them is bugged. When they were open I was unable to find a group as everyone was too busy doing FOTM. Real shame as I was really eager to finish the story but now I frankly couldn’t give a kitten Spent too much time trying to get a party together unsuccessfully. I have had the same problem trying to get a party for the story mode of HotW and CoE. Very few people seem to be doing the story modes of the less popular dungeons anymore . Seems like a stupid design decision to me if I’m being honest. I’m on blacktide btw, usually play from 7pm (GMT) on.
(edit: If its hard to find a group now, imagine what it will be like in another month or two. Really think something is needed to be done, maybe the introduction of a cross server party search tool.)

Had reservations about rolling a Ranger as my main due to Pets but went ahead with it anyway, partly due to me rolling a Ranger as my main in GW1. Really dissapointed at how it has turned out. Boring gameplay(Longsword being about the only fun weapon), lack of dps and squishability make them really lacking in both PvE and PvP. Was completley outmatched in sPvP due do lack of ability to actually down someone by myself. Another thing, what is up with the Elites, really underpowered!

The only real satisfying part with them for me has been the traps. Think ill switch to a Necro on completion of the Personal storyline!

Looking for Establised Guild on Gunnar's Hold

hey Brunners

Well Gunnar’s would be my preference as I have friends playing on it, although they are becoming less active. I will try and stick with Gunnar’s for the time being but not ruling out a server change in a week or two!

Im currently looking to join an established guild for Guild Wars 2 on Gunnar’s Hold.

About Me: From Ireland, veteran player of Guild Wars 1 since factions expansion. Mainly get online to play Guild Wars 2 from 8 in the evening and most the weekends.

What Im looking for: A community driven guild number 1. From experience I know that a sense of community in a guild can be far better that a solely PvP or Pve driven guild. Focusing on finishing the PvE content of my Main character and completing dungeons as they become available for my character. Drop in to WvW and sPvP too and have a bit of experience in serious teams from GW1.
