Were people suprise that many GW2 players are complaining about PVE Endgame?

If you were surprised that people are complaining, then this must be your first MMO. People are always kittening about anything on the forums.
Sometimes you just don’t like something. With MMO’s people seem to be a bit more vocal / whiny about what they don’t like.
Everyone has their own concerns about the game. Some create constructive posts that address the issue, some just complain for the complaining.

One Word - Endgame

I sinked quite some hours into this game and not bored at all.

There’s enough reasons why someone would find guild wars (endgame) boring or bad though. The lack of gear based progression is only one of them.
In the end it simply comes down to preference.

Also note that the first price you see is some kind of cached value, or the average price over some time period.

Giant eyes prices skyrocketed in the last few days. When you search for them the price says 1s25. The cheapest you can buy them is 10 silver.
(This is of course at the time of writing, bound to change )

If this was your first MMO, what would you think?

@Blaze: both your threads got closed, so now you just post your bot whine in another thread? Where is the nazi part? That kitten made me giggle!

On-topic: I’d probably compare it to dark souls and consider this game way too easy.

Sad to hear this happened to you.
I’ve understood that they can get banned for this. Try and raise a support ticket and explain what happened to you.

Do people gravitate to successful WvWvW server?

I’m on Fissure of Woe (lowest ranked EU server). WvW is pretty much dead here. Only moved there a couple of weeks ago to play with friends, so not sure how bad it was before that.
Getting my PoI’s / vistas / skillpoints will be near impossible without switching servers.

It’s disheartening to go to the eternal battlegrounds and find out your server owns a maximum of 2 supply camps and your spawn is being camped. When you see that you tend to take the portal to Lion’s Arch :P

My ingame network isn’t big enough to organize anything to counter this, so if I want to WvW I’m probably better off changing servers.

Getting high level on a mesmer

I’m levelling a mesmer right now (lvl 51) and the levelling speed seems fine to me. I do kill mobs a bit slower than on my guardian, but you get most xp from doing other stuff anyway.
I do play with friends a lot, so that may increase the leveling speed.

What’s your general strategy for killing things? You could probably get some more specific tips if you tell us which weapons and traits you use.

Will my control/hammer build be viable?

If you’re going solo PvE, I wouldn’t really bother with contemplation of purity, because the amount of conditions thrown around is usually quite low. In PvP you’ll want it and in some PvE group situations too. (Also has some nice synergy with the 25 point Virtue trait)

Guardians and Combos

Greatsword has 3 finishers (projectile, leap, whirl)
Hammer indeed has only 1 (blast)
Focus also has a blast finisher.
The blast finisher on hammer is probably the best in the game (unless someone proves me wrong, I don’t know all weapons for all classes yet)
Staff, mace, scepter, shield, torch and focus indeed don’t have any finishers.
Guardian has a lot of combo fields though, most are light. (Except for one fire combo field)

I haven’t really played with combos too much, so I’m not going to comment on whether it is needed to have extra finishers.

I don’t think the 30 points in Virtues is worth it. Permeating Wrath is at it’s strongest with fast weapon(s) and shines when you combine it with 10 points in Zeal.
I’m guessing you want to keep the 25 points in for the extra power on buffs? If so: you’ll have 5 points left to spend elsewhere.

I’m not too fond of the shield cooldown reduction talent. Glacial heart is available at 20 trait points, so you could drop 10 points from there.
I’d then put those 10 points in honor to get the cooldown reduction on 2 handed weapons. That way all your hammer skills will have a better cooldown, which seems more useful to me.

Support Guardian can kill anyone ?

Don’t worry about that! At 40 you’ll have to buy a new skillbook and your talents are automatically reset. So even if you made a bad choice it won’t be too much of a problem. (and you can always reset your traits for 3s50)

As you said you want to play support, here’s some suggestions:
- Honor (At 10 points you can select a trait that reduces the cooldown of shouts. Shouts are quite nice for the entire group)
- Virtues (At 5 points activating a virtue will also grant you and your allies a buff)

For damage:
- Zeal (At 10 points, you will do 10% more damage on burning targets)

At level 12 you shouldn’t worry too much about your build. As you cannot put more than 10 points in one trait until you are level 40. There’s enough room for playing around and select all the traits that suit you.
You should be able to do most content with any weapon combination and I advice you to try them all out to see what fits your playstyle. Same is true for your utilities.
That said: support guardian is optimal for group play, but you’ll be fine doing things on your own.

As for the empty areas: haven’t noticed this myself on my server, but if you play on off-times it can be expected.

You should post your build(s) and then maybe someone can tell what gear would be most suitable.

My advice would be to go to heart of the mists and experiment.

Retaliation. Worth it?

In my opinion: your mindset shouldn’t be: how can I increase the retaliation damage the most. But: how can I reduce the damage done to me. The lower the damage you receive, the more effective retaliation becomes.

Never realized instant meant you could use it without interrupting your current action. That makes it a lot stronger indeed!

(Sorta makes sense in the ‘you can do it in an instant’ kind of context)

Extending the burn duration is primarily used for 10% bonus damage you get against a burning target. ( If you’ve specced 10 point into Zeal of course)
Now whether that’s worth it is another question.

Spirit Weapons: Bow??

Your argument makes no sense. By your logic an elementalist should get access to bow/axe/hammer/shield. Hell, anyone can pick up those conjured weapons, so they should be available to all classes, no?

I would advise you to join the conversation in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/Guardian-with-longbow/first which already discusses ranged options for the guardian.

Aren’t all the meditations you picked instant already? (I just tried this, and I’m pretty sure they are)
Because then you can switch out Focused Mind for something else. (Note that the talent calculator you used is outdated. It doesn’t contain the new hammer trait and it still contains Altruistic Healer, which isn’t there anymore… at least I can’t find it )

Smite isn’t instant.

You’re right, missed the casting bar. Not sure if it’s worth the trait point though, because the cast time for that is still really short.

For speed you can switch to staff. With the trait for a 20% shorter CD on 2Handers and some boon duration buffs, you can keep the speed boon up constantly. Without the traits / duration buffs it’s still very good for running around quickly.
I’m a guild mount at the moment. Helping guildies exploring maps, because it works on others too.
Guardian has the best group speed utility afaik. (Shame I don’t like the rest of the abilities on the staff, so before battle I have to equip something else, which is a bit of a hazzle)

In mostly rare gear and with the correct traits, I can solo about 4-5 Orr risen mobs at the same time, at a very good speed to boot. (Mind you, it does get a bit hard in full Magic Find gear)

I haven’t played much of the other classes, because Guardian is just that awesome
