Have you tried flushing your dns cache and doing a renew?
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew
You may want to post in the forum for account issues.
Just to update:
I had forgotten that I had mail in transit to my wife’s character that took 3 to 4 days for her to receive. After the mail went through I attempted another transfer. Well, the game client froze so I went off to work and came back to the game client still frozen. Upon a client restart and logging in I found that I was in fact transferred to the server that I had wanted to get to.
Here’s the kicker. Someone at ArenaNet transferred me the next morning over to another server. I’ve updated my previous support ticket but have gotten no answer as yet. I really do not, nor should I have to, wait another week to transfer back to the server on which my wife plays. Given the fact that they transferred me after I had already transferred within a 24hr period means that the argument that they cannot transfer me again in a weeks time is invalid.

Thank you for the response Gaile. I updated my ticket shortly after making this post and have gotten a response back that I am currently shaking my head about.
They asked me to wait as the transfer may still be going through. It seems as though they did not even finish reading my update before they tacked on a standard response.
Right now server transfers are free. However, one is limited to one per week.
Last week my wife and I were transferring from one server to another. We did so at the same time. She made the transfer just fine. I, however, got thrown to a EU server.
I sent in an email to ArenaNet and got the standard “You’ll have to wait out the week” form email.
Fast forward one week. I cannot transfer out of the server that I am on.
One of two things happens:
1) The game client errors out without so much as an error code. I then wait 5-10 minutes and nothing.. much like a bounced check I get thrown back to whence I came.
2) The game client freezes somewhat (locks me out from anything but the standard alt+f4 and sits there. Upon any attempt to log back in I get an error on a gray screen that states the server transfer is underway. This seems to be a fallacy as upon my next successful log in I am, once again, back to whence I came.
I just want to play the game with my wife. This is why we purchased two copies. I do not want to be stuck another week without being able to play Guild Wars 2 with my wife.

I had a slightly similar issue last week where my wife and I tried to transfer to an American Server at the same time. She made it. I got bumped over to EU Ruins of Surmia. I got a form email back stating that I would have to wait out the week and attempt a transfer again…. even though it was their error. I doubt that many bits flipped that perfectly in transit.

Honestly I do not see where anyone would NOT want this. It makes a wonderfully noticeable difference at 1920×1080 and will certainly increase my enjoyment of the game.
The wife and I work graveyard shifts. We’re looking for a server with a good population for PvE (we’re not into any aspect of PvP, WvW, etc).
The hours are, as listed in the title, 18:00 to 06:00 GMT-7.

I do not think that overclocking is the answer. Wine does in fact allow for multi-core usage. It does so in WoW. Provided, of course, you alter your config.wtf file properly. It seems to be as much game config as it is wine config.

Caedmon is correct. Overclocking IS NOT the answer. It is never the answer for something of this nature. In fact, overclocking can cause these issues.
Caedmon was right to suggest shutting off auto-restart upon BSOD. I’ve not looked but there should be a sticky in these forums detailing just that. Seeing the BSOD DWORD message can be of great use in solving the issues these folks are having.
I would check the compatibility options of your GW2 shortcut and make sure that compositing is off. Turning things like Aero Glass could help a bit as well.

You’re right of course Xpander. But the mission was to get it installed and running. Everything else from that point on is a tweak.
Also, keep in mind that wine are not officially supporting GW2 yet anyway. There has been some preliminary work done though. I imagine that dev on the GW2 portion will now start to ramp up, as there is a lot more call for it.
If you want the best out of wine/GW2, then you really need to slim down the distro you’re using, and compile wine yourself.
This was just a straight forward guide to get people started.
The intention at the end of the day, is to make it as simple as possible for people to make the move to Linux. If I can ease the transition, then mission accomplished!
Ultimately, you’re right though. So thanks for mentioning it. Perhaps Ill make another one at a later date, on how to improve your frame rates.
Cheers!

I agree. A slim distro can make a difference indeed. Linux From Scratch and building nes own kernel would be ideal. However, I think that when I get my machine back together I will be going the Archlinux or Archbang route. There’s also Crunchbang for those that prefer a Debian base.

I have that same graphics card with a core i7 and have not had issue crashing. What is the message that the blue-screen gives you?
Question: Is your roommate on Ethernet and you on WiFi?
My wife and I had this issue while playing WoW and in the beta’s for GW2. A new router plus deleting all of the QoS crap solved our issue.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I will re work it tonight. Ill adjust the Music and Voice volumes.
Its strange, because when I play it on Linux, the volumes through Flash are near perfect. Then when I switch over to Windows, its all out of whack. Silly Windows
Oh, and KerrMD : I cant find a command line switch for OpenGL, so unfortunately, its in DirectX9. Also that link you posted is basically where I got the information from. I just thought a vid might be easier to follow for some people, especially if I can cut out most of the cli, and introduce Play On Linux’s GUI instead.
Anyway, Ill update tonight!
Cheers!

It’s a failing of mine. I like CLI for some things.
More information would help.
1) What are you doing when your fps drops.
2) What is your fps before and after it drops.
Best thing to do would be to stop the machine from auto-restarting and research any codes thrown up on the BSOD.
Oh dear, the capitalists.
High prices generate high prices.
If the prices would be higher, yes, you would make “more” money, just as you would have to pay more.
What changes? The fee cuts get higher and drops get worthless, thats it, good job.
I rather get only 10 silver for a item, and pay also only 10 silver for what i need, while the gold and item drops i get from monsters still matter, than getting 10 gold for a item, while i have to pay also 10 gold for what i want, while it’s completely useless to actually play the game, because random drops are useless.
Good luck in a fair and social economy, now you can proceed in kitten up the real world economy.
Amen.
I disagree. Honestly, I do not care if they are a “lowbie hanging out” or an honest to goodness low level.
Often times you will find a higher level has come into an area to complete it.

Nice! Using OpenGL or DX?
I just watched and bookmarked the video for when I get my desktop back up. Now I can get an Archbang install going and play my GW2. Best of both worlds.
EDIT: I would like to suggest throwing a post and link up in the subforum Linksville.
Kudos and thanks!

CPU indeed. My 2 year old Radeon HD 5770 runs the game wonderfully with settings maxed.
That said I did not notice if you mentioned RAM. I’m sitting at 8GB of ram and the game just loves it.
From a security standpoint I would not recommend the activation of UPnP.
That said, try dropping yourself back to Wireless G. Wireless N has less range and you could be right on the cusp. If the QoS is turned on try without it. If it is off, try turning it on.
I recently replaced my old router with DD-WRT on it and had to actually delete all of my new routers QoS (quality of service) profiles. After doing so it has worked great.
PErsonally I would upgrade the cpu and motherboard. You should get more milage out of that and as far as upgrading goes it is a good idea to start at the base. The motherboard and cpu is that base.
You may also want to check your router settings. You may have too short of a lease time set in the DHCP settings.
That said, I would do as Draeath states and contact your ISP. Your IP address should not have a lease so short.
I am also curious. You have to go to email to accept your new IP? That’s odd. Systems typically do that without the user even being aware of the change. That is what DHCP is for.
I did not notice if you stated whether or not you have used the -repair option as yet.
I would try that. Just place -repair after the shortcut to the launcher.
It’s pretty clear I’m talking about Network because I said “connection”.
Actually it is not.
Run a pathping and post the results. What looks like connection latency is not always connection latency.
Have you done any investigating to see where the latency is occuring?
Is ANYTHING being done for the terrible performance?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: KerrMD.2617
What terrible performance? I run on a core i7 with 7GB ram and an ATI HD 5770 card and have no performance issues.
A little detail as to what performance issues you are seeing may actually garner something.
Make sure that you do indeed have no AV, firewall, or general malware programs running. Make sure that windows has an exception in its own firewall for gw2.exe.
Aside from that I cannot think of much to do besides running a pathping and|or tracert to their servers and submitting that data as well.
Also, did you make sure and run the installer as administrator? This can make a difference.
Flushdns just flushes your dns cache. Don’t bother with the /renew since you have a static IP.
DNS = Domain Name Server if you were curious.
anyone fixed this problem? sitting around watching a 0 kb/sec download for 1.5 hours now -.-
Just curious but have you tried the following?
Click the start button and search for ‘cmd.exe’ without the ’.
Right click the resulting cmd.exe and run as administrator.
A “dos” box or command window will appear.
type and enter the following ‘ipconfig /flushdns’ again, no quotes.
(edited by KerrMD.2617)
Try telling windows to stop with the eye-candy while GW2 is running.
Also, did you blow out the heat sinks and pathways when you did the fan?
Are your graphics drivers updated? Latest Catalyst rev number is 12.8.
There are many kind of “lag” or latency.
There’s latency due to CPU, GPU, Network, and others as well. A little more detail would help greatly.
I’ve been Googling this and it seems that a battery can cause this when going bad.
Extra voltage/amperage is radiated as heat. I am not sure of your laptop model and whether you can even do this but try removing the battery. Leave the AC connected and see if it overheats again. If it does not, there’s your answer.
Not even close, i have an open ticket. There are THOUSANDS who cannot play due to bad programming of this game. Nothing more.
I am honestly curious. What is the issue that keeps you from playing the game?
Please do keep in mind that there is no way that they can code the software for every single hardware and environment configuration there is.
WiFi or Ethernet?
If Ethernet have you tried bypassing your router?
If WiFi, is it locked down? WPA2-personal with a good complex and random key?
Is your phone sharing the same line as your internet connection? I have not dealt with DSL a good while but we used to have to put filters inline on the phones to stabilize our DSL connection.
Try logging into your modem to check the signal quality. Traditionally the IP is 192.168.100.1
Protector?
They are referring to the Guardian class I believe.
