Hello! So my guilds first closed raid group is about to phase out revenants in favor of either another druid or ps since our chronos can keep up the 100% boon duration on their own. So my question is in case they were short one dps and someone has revenant ready would they still need to run glint to achieve maximum dps? Or could achieve higher dps without glint and instead exchanging it for something like Shiro? I might do some tests later to see if Shiro/Dwarf would be viable but was curious what you some revenant veterans had to say?
So I manage to get some people help me defeat the Chak Driver however I died at it took me awhile to run back, once I make it back its defeated by I know I hit it with enough damage and got an award chest, do you have to be in the area its defeated to get the mastery point or no?
I still have not received my map completion chest for verdant brink
Mordemoth fight still has quite a few bugs, been trying to assist my guild leader complete it every time at the end after we use the rift on him and fight off those smoldering shadows he becomes invincible and we cannot finish the fight.
Ok that makes sense I was wondering. Its still annoying as hell though. I wish there was a way they could just instance a boss fight which is separate so I can just do the acheivements without going through the cutscenes again. If I didn’t hate caithe before I do now after doing Mystery Cave 6 times in a row. LOL
Tarr Geargrind is cool 7/10
I have charr guardian (hilarious, I know) in the Iron Legion named Petasia Spiritblade.
Hey I have a charr guardian as well! Hmm I say 6/10 for the first name and 8/10 for the last name! I say higher if I can know the backstory, I like how it rolls off the tongue.
My charrs:
Maurudunn, Engineer of the Iron Legion: I made him back when I didn’t know you can have last names. His name is supposed to sound a bit odd and soft for a charr however he is commonly called Maur which some charrs pronounce as Maw. A bit of joke on the fact he has so many teeth, also nicknamed for Grenadier’s Maw for the fact he can go psycho on the explosives. In a fanfiction I am working on he is actually one of the most intelligent charrs, which Taimi observes equal to that of Scarlet and hers on some occasions, he just tends to keep it hidden since he has issues trusting people. He talks not much about his past and seems to actually be searching for it himself, he’s an odd one, is dating a Norn and acts particularly feral even for a charr along with goofy. Because of this quirkiness he has only really found close friends in Dinky, his sister, Tybalt, his Norn girlfriend, and a fellow Iron legion charr named Knichtus.
Knichtus Brocthan (Or GearDaemon), guardian of the Iron Legion. Knichtus’ first name is supposed to be a combination of names to mean Snow Knight or Snow Warrior. He’s a fairly inquisitive charr, known for his honorable behavior rather than ferocity. He is often seen helping out Maurudunn with any of his recent engineering adventures since he makes a wonderful test subject since his rather passive behavior. He’s a short charr, even shorter than Rytlock though Maur would recommend not commenting about it since he has a rather vicious temper. He is apart of the Gear warband, and earned the name GearDaemon after his members witnessed the wrath of a very kittened off, powerful guardian. However he likes to go by the name Brocthan when in Norn territories. It is fairly unknown why, but Maur believes that Knichtus most likely lost a very close friend that was a Norn, that he considered was a part of his warband and took his name to honor him.
Knichtus is a very creative charr however with a talent to draw, with his usual guardian abilities, he is also often see drawing up plans for the newest iron legion builds, blood legion weapons, architectual design’s for the citadel and other areas. He is always open to helping fellow charr and doing anything he can for the legions, his warband or any friends. Maur appreciates his help immensely creating new tools, and Knichtus’ bizzare outbursts over ideas he’s been mulling over for drawing.
Kumatora Nightfury, Warrior of the Ash Legion, younger sister of Maur, and best friend of Knichtus. This charr is actually inspired by my recent rescue dog also named Kumatora, and Nightfury as the last name because my friend compares her to toothless. The first name means ‘Bear Tiger’ and is known for how powerful her strikes are, but you won’t typically hear the noise before the impact, she is almost as silent as the night . Kuma is large charr like her brother, and had always a knack for searching for information, she also a menacing force to mess with. Her strength, cunning and intelligence is definitely like the combination of a bear tiger, and when she gets loud, she gets loud and will tear down anything in her path. Usually however, she is able to carry out Ash Legion work with the stealth and finesse you typically don’t think when you imagine a warrior, and she makes a great spy when trying to find out things about the blood legion.
However she’s extremely odd like her brother, Kumatora love’s food, but she has an extremely high metabolism, you can see her scarfing down plates of food before a mission, especially when she knows she is gonna need adrenaline. Despite the table manners, shes exceptionally charming which sometimes clashes with Maur’s ferocity, it’s very often when Knichtus has to referee the two of them when they get into heated intelligent or dumb debates.
Kuma is close to her brother however despite that and he keeps an eye on her, loving watching her progress into a proper charr. Kumatora is considered an honorary member of the Gear Warband and Knichtus an honorary member of the Night. They are extremely close and trusting of eachother and combine with Maur’s Engineer skills make a powerful trio. Kumatora and Knichtus had met up multiple times and eventually after some team events, drinks, close calls and a good brawl the quickly start realizing they could depend on eachother.
I have a fourth charr called Rinnae Pathbolt but she is based off a character from a different RP and I’m still developing her charrself. Knichtus charr is based a bit off of me of course.

+1 @ Knichtus…someone who actually gets it.
IMO there is obviously not an obvious answer to this question. Advantages and disadvantages although they can determine probability still lacks statistics needed to prove anything.
I have stated a major flaw early in this thread that according to this “lore” there are very little scenario’s in this “lore.” One fight cannot be used to determine the facts as their are exceptions to most rule of thumbs.
Aside from my arguement. I would also like to acknowledge that it never occured to me which Spirit the Norn was more aligned with. That is a fine example of both a variable and perspective that should be used when talking about these things. Very well written response. I commend you for it.
Thanks! Yeah that is an issue, their aren’t a ton of scenario’s where that is always the case when it comes to one norn annihilating an entire warband.
Going back to gw1 where the bear shift and power was taken into consideration, your human main character when fighting again a norn that has shifted into the bear form, well their was typically no hope of winning unless (at least for me because I was an assassin-ranger) you outrun the opponent, wait for the form to vanish and then wail on your enemy, interrupting the hard hitting attacks.
With that being said without the power of the shift, in a one on one fight the norn could lose to a human that was skilled, while you the player would lose to a norn unprepared and taking the hard hits. This is where I would think agility and skill would come into play vs great strength.
The shift and association with the spirits effects the norn’s strength by a large margin I believe, larger than what we consider. Yes they are stronger than humans but since they can call upon the spirits in battle I think its more than just the shift, its their abilities as well. The norn become more powerful the greater the threat is, I think its the spirits passively giving them the ability to overcome the obstacle.
They are giants, but the jotun who are another giant race really could by themselves take out a party of 5 and a small group of them was trouble. Compared to the norn in gw1 which a party of 5 could be trouble I would believe especially without access to their shift.
Now i know game mechanics doesn’t = lore. But I think gw1 did a better job showing off the norn as a race than gw2 does. They seem to be not as great as before but still powerful, and tbh to this day I am wondering how humans survived the charr in gw1, if it was mainly just them being disorganized I think the humans were actually really lucky in gw1 to conquer so many races territory.
Without the magic of their shift or association with the spirits, since the charr have no gods. I really believe they would be on equal footing, the charr are just as big as norn, and have what it seems like just as much muscle. The norn have the advantage of height when the charr are hunched over, but the charr can easily get onto all four and take the norn down from below, I don’t think anyone could easily recover from a well delivered punch with the person’s full body weight uppercutting you from below. The norn vice versa could probably KO a charr delivering a strong blow from above.
When the norn shift, well I believe their would be gifts, but also sacrifices. Bear norn, considering they are grizzlies most of the time, have a strength boost, but would be slower, and get tired a bit quick. Snow leopard norn would definitely get an agility boost, and in the woods they be a deadly opponent, but the charr’s hearing would probably help them on the stealth front considering they are also feline like. The snow leopard norn, probably wouldn’t get much of a strength boost, if at all.
Their also the body types of the norn, same with charr, that would definitely effect the shift. A bulky body type may be more suited for a norn associated with bear spirit, but what if it were associated with raven? Would the strength be decreased in return for the norn to have an increase in intelligence?
With animals their is always and sacrifice for what they specialize in. The same with people as well. But this is still my headcannon and just sort of speculating the norn lore.
Well lore wise of course norn in 1v1 and charr in army vs army. But because I find some of the lore sort of…meh and love these two to death and fun is allowed in this game. My headcannon is this:
Norn while strong, strengths are determined by what spirit guides them. So norn with bear spirit are unnaturally strong.
Wolf Norn make up for strength with endurance and tracking ability, they also work much better in a team.
Snow Leopard Norn are agile and stealthy, no much in the strength departments like bear but more than wolf, but are not able to go on as long as wolf could in a fight. Bear norn having the least.
Raven norn are incredibly intelligent and cunning, outsmarting opponents, they lack the most in strength.
Charr as a feline, cow, bestial race I definitely found it hard to believe that basically a race of giant humans that shift vs a race of giant cat people that train for battle that they wouldn’t be able to fight one on one in a fist fight equally, just a full on brawl. Though I understand lore base doesn’t mean I have to agree with it. So for me, the norn and charr are on equal footing, they are both extremely strong, great hunters and warriors. The norn can most likely organize a hunting party as well as a charr can organize warbands to prepare for battle. However these two races get along fairly well for their similar views and have a great time hanging out together.
Lore base though norn will typically win over the charr most of the time, but for fun and balancing out my two favorite races I say they are equal and it depends.

I heard in perfect world you were able to marry players, I think it would be interesting if they could implement that sort of element into the game. They are going more RPG anyway, it would make the game fun and probably even more hilarious to play with friends. Or NPC sidekick would be great to. I agree with gambling, I would love more interacting with these NPC’s.
I would really like it if Arenanet would add in mounts creatively instead of something to ride around for a speed boost. What have some people been saying? Battle mounts? YES I would love the heck out of that, and making it possible for you to customize them? That would be great? It could be purely cosmetic being from the gem store (because I think everyone agrees that store is lacking with skins to fully customize a character or anything and they really need to work on that. I actually want to buy stuff but add to it arenanet.) Just imagine that being in WvWvW, battling mounts, an entirely new skillset, you could like joust or knock opponents off or your mount has its own abilities like ranger pets that you can activate. Actually what Arenanet needs to do, since this is supposed to be a merge of RPG and MMO elements, I say add more RPG elements. Make it possible for you to care for your pets (if ranger) and mounts and get skill points for it and achievements. Add more depth to the game. Mounts don’t even need to be ridiculously big like the ones on WoW. But what would be nice if certain classes or races could tame certain mounts, I mean the world, to me, is seriously lacking a bit with fauna and needs more to fill it up. I would love it one day if they just expand these maps and add more life to them I just love to explore, having mounts would also be a fun way to explore. Adding mount battle minigames I mean sure this is getting away from an MMO and getting more into like a…Adventure RPG with MMO aspects but really for GW2 that was the only way to actually get away from the usually MMO stigma.
They might as well add a skyrim element to it and make it possible for the mount to fight with you but it can die, permanently, and you would need to tame another and raise it or buy another. But I do agree with them also them not coming out of freaking nowhere like WoW. If you want to ride your mount you’ll need to pick it up at a stable, and if its out of the stable and you lose it, well you just lost your pet.
This is a suggestion forum people so lets not shun ideas
