Mini Giant Devourer
The best was when someone asked how to get that miniature…
My exotics were 78 and 76. My rares 80 and 78.
I agree with the ties except for Dwayna and Dhuum/Grenth. My personal take is the aspects the represent are reversed.
Dhuum was the god of Death. He forbid undead. Zhaitan isn’t about death so much as undeath and converting things to this state.
Jormag is associated with ice, but as we find out with some of the Norn stories, he has some powers over the Mists. If you look at the corrupted crystals representing his influence, they look like light taken solid form. Light is Dwayna’s domain.
In an early personal storyline, which may require being a female Charr, someone makes a comment about joining the Apron Legion in reference to Flame females.
The voice actress is Jennifer Hale. Yes, Commander Shepard.
I have a devourer I named Mini Siege Devourer, so it’s to scale with other minis. (I try to pick minis that match Ranger pets and Necro minions.)
My armor fish is named Abaddon since it looks like him.
Bonfire lets you thrown down a fire field without being next to your target. Flame trap is generally better, if triggered, but they both have uses. What I usually do is lure them to the trap, then when it expires throw down the bonfire.
The thrown torch is great though, and usually what I open with.
Verdant weapons only come as rares, which is why you don’t see a lot of them. The trading post is the best way to get a hold of one if you don’t want to buy them from the cultural vendor.
I think it felt odd because they were trying to stay away from “Help my boyfriend. My boyfriend is in trouble. Please save my boyfriend.” Sylvari tend to use more… flowery… descriptors for their relationships than the gendered pronouns we are used to.
As it’s one of the very first missions, we have no chance to get used to Sylvari speaking patterns so it feels even more incongruous.
Cultural weapons match some of the drops that can be found in the game:
T1 = Glyphic, Krytan, Steam
T2 = Verdant, Auric, Flame
Asura and Sylvari share T1 and T2 weapon skins, although their T3s are unique. I know one of the Norn tiers is Shiverpeaks, but not which one.
It’s likely the presence of the dragons is disrupting the gods’ ability to communicate. They’re acting as a primal force on many levels. As the dragons are destroyed, I expect there to be more contact with them.
So far I’ve used a mixture of idea to pick names.
Siobhan Starcatcher is a gaelic name plus a tie to my GW1 Ranger. I have the image of a newly awakened Sylvari running around the Grove trying to catch pollen floating about.
Xanthoria Flutterby is a genus name of a lichenized algae plus the original name of butterflies, which seemed appropriate for a Mesmer.
My Necromancer is Amaryl Lidaceae. Spider lilies are from the family amaryllidaceae. I’ve seen an Amaryl NPC somewhere.
Although they don’t have family names, I don’t see why Sylvari couldn’t take double names, or choose a descriptive name in addition to their self-given name. In a realm of people with a single name, it quickly makes sense for Bob to take the epithet Bob the Stout if it helps people differentiate him from Bob (the Fish-Feeder).
What you said here, Vargos, was pretty much my reasoning.
I consider the dragons negative aspects, not necessarily destructive. They are destructive to existing structures, but only because they transform the environment to suit their aspect.
Initially I was thinking Jormag should be Strength, but that was when I was trying to use classical Greek elements. The Sons of Svanir revere Jormag, but they would have revered any elder dragon that showed up in their territory because they are all massively powerful forces. Dwayna is seen as opposing winter every year against Grenth, but as part of a natural cycle. As a more malevolent force, Jormag seems to be naturally in opposition to her.
Much like crystals, or undead, or other manifestations of their influence, Jormag happens to be ice. Too many have overlapping spheres of influence were they merely following classic elements though. Jormag’s ice is also highly mystical with patterns of light flowing throughout. So I don’t think Ice or Strength is really his domain. Corruption of Light, however, would fit. Instead of warmth and hope, he brings cold and despair, and ice when it shines could be considered solidified light.
The way I look at the dragons is they are Aspects. While certain elements are frequently associated with professions, things make more sense to me by considering everything being spawned by more abstract forces.
Glint’s trial consisted of Light, Nature, Chaos, Darkness, Elements, and Strength. There is a fairly good correspondence between these and the dragons if viewed as the destructive aspects of these. Similarly the human gods represent these concepts.
That was based on GW1, however. Concepts have evolved and been refined since then. Maybe Elements should really be Knowledge. How I slot things for the moment:
Darkness – Zhaitan – Grenth
Chaos – Kralkatorrik – Lyssa
Knowledge – Deep Sea Dragon – Kormir
Nature – The Nightmare – Melandru
Strength – Primordius – Balthazar
Light – Jormag – Dwayna
For now I consider The Nightmare to be the sixth dragon, and one that has not fully awakened yet. Sylvari fight a plant dragon and it’s thorn hound minions in their dreams, not one of the others. They mistake its form as representing the dragons in general, because they were not aware of a specific there was one of a specific Aspect which was calling to them. It also explains why Sylvari can be turned to Nightmare, be unable to be turned back, yet they’re immune to corruption by the other dragons.
There is a hatchery in Bloodtide Coast. You’ll die from cuteness overload if you find it though.
Mini’s are fun to have running around with us, however it gets annoying to have to pull them out after every zone transition.
How about adding an equipment slot specifically for minis which automatically ‘deploys’ them? Or maybe a few slots, of which one is randomly chosen?
