As a long time GW1 player (and GW2 too) I have strong opinions about gear grind. I think ascended armor/weapons increasing stats is just plain wrong. I sort of get legendary weapons, but I think they should only have cosmetic changes.
Having a long term goal is great, but it shouldn’t upset the balance between players – either in gear or in other aspects of the game.
Should note, this was after the patch this afternoon.
My necro was stuck pointing, kinda weird. This was after casting some spells and my target died, I just got stuck.

I was one of those people kitten off by your addition of Ascended gear, because I just don’t do Fractals. Now that dailies allow me to get Ascended gear, I’m “OK” with it.
Now I still don’t like the gear treadmill, don’t get me wrong. GW1 was much better about having one tier of armor/weapons.
My client went to “not responding” 3 or 4 times this weekend while loading areas, and I had to ctrl-alt-del to kill it. I was able to right click and say “create dump file”, can I provide this 2GB file to ArenaNet somehow? Is there a better way to notify ArenaNet of this?
The ancient shark for the skill quest in the middle of the map is friendly, and won’t reset.
This is the only thing I have blocking my map completion in that area, which is extremely frustrating!
So many skills are disabled underwater, particularly elite skills. I created a thief recently, and when I went underwater there’s only one skill available for elite.
Make more skills available underwater, or perhaps a new set of underwater only skills.
Keep in mind that AoE is limited to 5 targets.
I’ve got a lvl 80 Necro with staff, and it’s pretty fun in WvWvW. I can lay down marks from 1200 range, but they don’t do a ton of damage on their own. I’ve got good vitality and toughness, so I can survive heavy AOE, but if I get in a 1v1 battle I’m pretty much kitten-ed.
Also, Corrupt Boon is just awesome for WvW, and PvP in general.
Overall though, I tend to play my other characters in WvW because even in zerg hordes things tend to break down, and spiking damage is generally more useful.
Has anyone seen these items in game yet? Did it get the stat increase as was hinted at in Leah’ kitten or was that not included in the actual release?
“Our goal is not to create a gear treadmill”
If ascended gear has higher stats than exotic and is more difficult to get, that’s a gear treadmill. I’m going to wait and see what actually gets released in this November update, but don’t go there Arenanet!!!
What’s the little “+1” button do? Can I see how many people like/dislike my comments? Are comments with many pluses automatically printed and circulated at Arenanet developer meetings
I just brought my third character up to level 80, and the lack of differentiation in the personal story is pretty sad. I beat Ziatan twice already, do I really have to do it again? What was that about a permanent impact to the world?
So my first suggestion for “endgame” is to add new areas and new events. We don’t want to grind, we want new content! More level 80 zones in PvE and more WvW maps too (I don’t play sPvP much, but I bet they want new maps too).
Secondly, bring back Hard Mode from GW1. That was my endgame in GW1 and kept me occupied for over a year fighting the higher level and smarter mobs.
Thirdly, attract new players. The fact that GW2 has no subscription fee means it’s ok for players to leave, Arenanet doesn’t loose money. To keep making it though, they need to sell more copies, much like a single player game would. Improve graphics (DX11), fix bugs, and keep the world newb friendly (no gear grind!!!).
I’m still trying to figure out that “Cats are always haiku” thing… That’s only 6 syllables!
Here’s a thought, break into two server sets
a. Those who want gear treadmills get the 8% stat increases
b. Those who don’t, Ascended armor stats remain like exotic
In a month or two, see how populations have adjusted themselves. This way, people can choose (or vote) rather than the noisiest 10% posting on the forums.

Ok, dumb question. What’s the problem with another team coming and capturing it while people are offline? This gives us something to do when we get back online and they’re not.
I take part in quite a bit of WvW, and I hate the idea of having to continually work on upgrading my gear. What’s Arenanet going to do to keep balance between those players who grind dungeons (or pay cash for gems) and the rest of us?
Here’s my suggestions
- Don’t increase stats, just increase the “infusion” for the dungeon mechanic
- Drop (or increase) stats in WvW to balance everyone
- Switch WvW to the same system as PvP (where you can choose everything separate from PvE)

I’m really worried that the new ascended armor and this new gear progression is going to ruin World vs World.
