I do believe there are players that bad in this game.

“Casual” for GW2 is a shockingly low floor. The worst players I’ve seen in other games seem by default a step above the worst players I’ve met here. This holds true for my experience in both pvp and pve.

I made a post about this recently and It can’t be just that the game is casual. But the players I encounter 90% of the time I would rather have bots =/

I will preface this by saying I consider myself an average player at best. But I have returned from a break from GW2.

Decided to jump back into PvP and expected to get stomped by all the people that had been playing consistently but to my horror I found I was rolling people 1v3 and I was for sure making mistakes and messing up dodges. I was playing a might makes right core warrior build a friend gave me and so I thought wow this must be OP.

Changed to thief then to druid same story so I figured my MMR must be really low. However 100+ games later and it’s exactly the same and not just the enemy team my team mates also feel like its their first game.

I’m plat 3 right now and I honestly don’t deserve it so my question is to the people that have seen this happen when did the average skill level in PvP drop so low and why?

A lot of these people will not agree with you because they can only see this from their point of view. The problem is there are a few builds that are easy to play and absolutely dominate the mid to low tiers of pvp. Like trap guardian, mesmer in general, thieves and necros. They are very forgiving classes but once you get to higher tiers they become free kills.

This is a much larger issue than people think because those new players that’s all the builds they see. They get crushed by them and then try them and then start crushing other new players. Its a cycle and what you end up with is what we have now where the lower ladders and a toxic pool of bad players with bad builds who think their much better than they are.

Rev feels sort of clunky and I couldn’t figure out why and I don’t just mean renegade which has its own issues.

Energy cost on everything as well as huge cooldowns feels weird, would it not make more sense to not have energy cost on weapon skills then the huge energy cost of the utilities would be fine since you are spending your resource how you want?

If you look at all the class forums besides engi right now since their op you will notice people only whining and crying. This is because the only people on the forums are the ones that didn’t like their specs and the others are happily playing the demo.

The hard truth on Revenant or Renegade elite spec in general is that its 100% useless in pvp/wvw but will be a nice upgrade in pve to the current condi build and I can see it becoming very meta in raids.

I would like to inform you that Revenant is not the only class suffering from this design choice as warriors new spellbreaker is looking to be amazing in pvp/wvw but will never be taken for anything besides solo open world roaming in pve etc etc. Hope that helped

No you are right they are not but nobody if going to take a Mirage over a chrono for anything PvE related except open world where people can play whatever they want. The spec looks great for the PvP players, you only have to look at the utility skills to see which area of the game this was designed for.

The downside to only creating an elite spec for PvP players is its a dead spec for the rest of the playerbase.

Looks like its a PvP spec and maybe open world PvE if you like the flavor but the numbers are so weak from a DPS standpoint. I have a feeling this was intentional since mesmers are already so wanted in raids.

I love playing my mesmer in WvW and pve but in spvp I just cannot seem to be effective. I also play D/D ele and I literally cannot die ever unless i run into a point 1v4. So I’m here looking for some advice to get better as mesmer in sPvP.

I have tried both traditional shatter (my favourite), the double ranged shatter and the condi shatter and I am having trouble with some classes.

1. Thieves – I basically have two choices run or die, I have tried dodging their stealth opener, using cc to hold them off bursting them first and I feel like I can’t do anything if I dodge their opener twice how do I punish them for missing it?

2. Med guardians – I think their just really good against anything in zerker amulet but with the passive blocks and double invulnerably even if I land a full shatter on them they just outlast my burst and I’m dead.

3. Shout bow – They can’t kill me but I will never kill them either do I just walk away from this one?

I really want to try and get better but the classes I mentioned are 90% of the players I face, any and all advice would be appreciated.

That’s interesting, what really confuses me is what stats are acceptable to hit. How much crit/ toughness etc were you aiming for when building that set.

I am seriously enjoying the elementalist post patch, I have been playing Spvp and pve and some wvw zerging but I have some friends that want me to come roaming with them in WvW. I have enough mats saved up to craft a full set of ascended armor and enough laurels relics etc for the accessories.

So the question I have is what armor set to choose, I will be playing D/D, S/D and D/F in that order while roaming. I was initially leaning towards celestial since that’s what I’m having the most success with in Spvp but celestial exotics are too painful to craft for just testing purposes. I know people tend to guard their equipment setups for wvw but if someone more knowledgeable could share some of their post patch experiences I would be grateful.

So I have recently returned to Gw2 I played for a few months at release but I had other things going on and have only just recently returned. I was wondering if I should just roll a warrior to really enjoy all aspects of the game since it seems to be the best at or competitive in every aspect.

What I am hoping for is for people to tell me that it is me just being inexperienced and not everything I post here is correct. But that aside here is my observations so far:

1. Huge damage in PvE possibly not the highest but mixed with their utility and innate toughness they are stacked in every area of pve [constantly seeing posts in LFG asking for warriors]

2. Highest variety of builds from bunker, condi, support, control and dps.

3. They have the highest armor and hp of any class yet they also have access to the most mobility from greatsword, sword and warhorn so you cannot run from them [except stealth focused theives?] or you cannot chase one.

I actually have a lot more like why does their axe auto out dps my ele’s full attunement
switching dps being among them. Is there honestly a downside to playing warrior? Are you just a god among mere mortals?

But most importantly could someone inform me if anet has any intention of addressing it or will this feature patch do anything to balance this? If not then should I just give in and make a warrior.

the radius of plagued is the entire point almost so if their out of the blind their not on the point win/win and yes necromancers as I said have to have a team built around them so pugs wont usually take them and condition damage is higher in the long run that power builds its like you said not busty.

Necromancers don’t pub stomp like thieves etc do vs inexperienced players play a different class to pug and find a team or start one that runs with a necro

Ok there is a lot to explain really here but ill give u the brief version,

1. necromancers are fine and perfectly viable and no other class can put out as any conditions at the same time as supporting than the necromancer

2. when players design their comps instead of adding a necromancer they have to build a team around one, there are a lot of reasons for this

3. the only issue right now with necromancers and part of number 2 is that they can only be built for condition damage and stay competitive tpvp they lack versatility in builds

4. on the whole though they are amazing and if you expect a lot of team fights nothing will win a team fight more now than a plague necro perma blind is so good

Im a mesmer and Moa needs a nerf. I think most decent one would be to reduce time from 10sec to 5sec

BTW Portal needs a little rework too, in some situations its just too good

10 seconds is fine and here is my reasoning

- using it in tpvp forces them off the point they can still walk away and dodge roll if you try to chase them to get the “free kill” you have also left the point and their roamer will come and neutralize it in seconds

- mostly I see it as a great counter to bunkers (classes fully traited into surviving and holding a point) you would have no chance 1v1 vs a competent bunker without it

- also as I mentioned in a previous post a small telegraph announcing it is being used means an opponent with good reflexes can have a chance to dodge it

1. The tournament map pool needs to rotate, fighting the best team on khylo(the worst map of the 3) is ridiculous.

2. Implement rating,.Do away with the tournament concept all together and simply add 5v5 spvp ranked that tracks your teams elo and pits you against other teams of similar elo. Add a non ranked option so teams can queue up as 5 and practice if they wish.

3. Too much grind with little incentive.

4. Custom games so we can host our own scrims and tournaments.

5. Duelling

6. More game modes, eg. deathmatch arena, conquest is tired and tedious, particularly in hotjoin.

7. A simple and efficient way to do hotjoin with friends; and no, ‘join friend in pvp,’ is not simple or efficient.

8. Less random PVP rewards.

9. Major class imbalances need to be fixed

Without 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 GW2 spvp will slowly die and any hope this game had of becoming an esport will die with it.

1. Rotating the maps wont really solve any issues you’re having. You will loose to the better team no matter which map right. Khylo is a great map also requires good team synergy and communication involving the trebs.

2. I agree about adding an elo/mmr system in and feel they will add something to this effect soon since they really want this to be an esport they will need a way or determining the top players.

3. I think your crazy with this one, pvp is about having fun and you are not forced to do it to progress If you want a skin that badly you can always go to pve if they made it any quicker the skin hunters in pvp myself included would already of finished all there is to do.

4. They already stated this will be implemented have patience

5. I’m 50/50 on this one, dueling can be great fun but it also increases the amount of whining being done by the community “I can’t beat x class 1v1 * queue tears*” when its balanced around 5v5

6. They chose this game mode because they can balance around it much easier and hot join is always tiresome because they balanced a game around 5v5 point capping and they made hot join 8v8 which I personally don’t understand but they must of had their reasons

7. No they should not allow premades into hot join it should stay like random arenas If you want to play with your friends do tpvp our wait until the custom games are added

8. The chests are random but I’m sure I am not the only one who salvaged everything and got very addicted to the mystic forge. You get stuff you don’t want? no problem go craft the set you do want with the mats you made

9. I play an ele which is considered by most to be completely under powered and I can honestly say there are no “major issues” it is almost there but in general needs some tweaks and most of all bug fixes which have been coming in daily btw here is a most I made on this earlier

Certainly one of the most reasonable perspectives on balance that I’ve seen so far. I think it’s important to remember the team dynamic when dealing with a spell like Moa. I can honestly relate to the initial knee-jerk reaction of someone that has just read the skill description. In practice, however, it can seem impossible to get the spell to land.

I won’t pretend to have the depth of knowledge required to fine tune this game. . . but I have to admit previous experience with MMOs has me a bit nervous. With the amount of vocalizing going on with regards to PVP balance, I hope the team at ANet has a clear vision of where they want things.

This is how I feel at the moment all I see is whining about how certain classes are op or up when really it’s probably the most balanced mmo pvp i have ever experienced. Really it is just a matter of tweaking from here and I feel Anet would do well to be more vocal to the pvp community. Alot of players I started with from other games that only pvp are leaving which is mostly because they feel it has become very wow like (mostly pve with a pvp minigame) and they havn’t been able to find any information from anet on the future of pvp.

Personally I feel like the game is still extremely new and they should have a bit of patience but my persuading will only last so long especially when my friends and the pvp community in general is very impatient.

Ok here are some things that ele does better than any other class

1. They are by far the best roamer in tpvp due to their ability to disengage a fight whenever they choose with ride the lightning and huge mobility

2. as far a direct healing and support goes they are right at the top with staff

The ele is much more difficult than some of the other classes but a lot of people find this rewarding. As a sceptor/dagger ele in pvp when well played they cannot be beaten by most classes 1v1 mesmer/guardian is the hardest but all classes have a weakness. If you truly want to get better at ele I suggest watching phantaram from team paradigm NA, he streams daily at twitch and you will learn a lot just watching him for a while although there are others you can watch also.

Most people think elementalist is underpowered because they expect the same results from pressing one button as you get with some other classes like shortbow power ranger or heartseeker/pistolwhip/backstab thief. After playing 300 games with elementalist so far and more than half of them in tpvp I can say right now ele is equal or sometimes even a lot stronger than most of the flavor classes right now it just requires more skill.

@Zin That is way too harsh of a nerf, I feel the moa is very difficult to actually land in a team fight against anything except a guardian using book which is what it was mostly used for but since any cc can interrupt that now. Adding the ghost like moa graphic is all it really needs the problem I have is that among the clones and phantasms it doesn’t have well telegraphed animation to know when its coming

@Jest Since the moa cast already requires you to be stationary putting you in a vulnerable position yet has a very short cast time I think something minor like a moa graphic appearing around the mesmer similar to the warhorn 5 skill of the ranger and for the thief 2 seconds is more than enough for a debuff maybe even a little too long as long as they decrease the time it takes for the thief to show up after being brought out of stealth via damage

Simple question has Anet given any hints on when a balancing patch will be released?

I do not feel the game is very far off balance wise there is not a single unviable class is pvp (I play an ele in tpvp). Current issues for me are

- when a mesmer is casting moa it needs to be telegraphed better giving you a chance to counter it

- thief needs to be punished harder for building full glass cannon, they do not need a damage nerf I feel that is a nice niche for them they do need a longer revealed debuff after being brought out of stealth (imo stealth is never balanced in mmo’s assassin in gw1 had zero stealth but high mobility instead and they did just fine)

- the sharks in raid of the capricorn are the most annoying mechanic ever why ruin the only chance to pvp underwater with pve mobs

After that there are tweaks to all classes that can be done.
