Ever notice how a friendly dog gets lots of attention and kindness? Why is that? Think. Why is that? It’s because the dog shows care for everyone else around it. It doesn’t care about itself, it cares about others. By giving people what they want (a nice, friendly dog), the dog gets what it ‘technically’ wants (since it doesn’t really care): attention and love.
This goes both ways. A friendly dog will shy away from people who are shouting at it
With raids incoming, it would be great to get some proper dummies implemented in PvE Lands, so we can test raid setups on something indestructible without going into the Mists.
Totally agree, love the idea of soothing bastion but in practice it feels like you’re CCing yourself. It’s not so bad when it’s a planned Hibernation as you’re controlling it, but the trait is reliably a nasty surprise
I’d been away from the game for a while, but I knew when I came back, Eris would reliably be there. He was a rock for Gunnar’s in WvW, ever present and ever active, always helpful and always a gentleman. I wholeheartedly wish he had been there when I logged in yesterday.
As a guildmate he kept us balanced, as an officer he kept things calm, and as a friend he kept us smiling.
The memorial yesterday was a lovely tribute. I was so glad I was able to make it back and see so many of the Gunnar’s community, old and new, come together to remember Eris, in the Borderland that wont be able to forget him.
If just the Major Cities were kept server specific and not part of the Megaserver system, would that help the RP community (and server communities in general to maintain a sense of self)?
I am not an RPer, but when guesting on Piken, the majority of RP that I have witnessed has been in the cities. Cities are generally fairly heavily occupied anyway so perhaps that could be a compromise to suit all parties; giving server communities their own “home”, whilst ensuring that the main questing and events areas gain some much needed population from the Megaserver system.
I really like the fact that I can gain unique pieces of armor during the Living Story, but it would be great if there was some way of getting multiple soulbound/account bound versions of the skin once acquired.
For example I run 4 to 5 armor sets on my warrior, and I’m pretty happy with how he looks with the Gas Mask skin headpiece, but can only have it on one set. Adding a vendor (like GW1), or ability to gain another copy of the skin through the achievements panel (like the Zenith/Hellfire/etc reward skins) would be perfect, and fairer for those who run a lot of alts too.
…don’t tell me l2p when you play a kitten warrior, and can’t play any other class straight, I have a warrior too want to duel me in pvp? Let’s see how your way of countering the warrior works for you. You sir are the one who needs to stop being stupid and l2p another class.
Pin Down was trying to do too much; piercing, bleed stacks, immob, swirlyness… but I think removal of the bleeds would’ve been a far better direction to go in, rather than telegraphing. I realise ANet love adding telegraphs atm as they feel it makes combat more reactive, but I’m sure they’ve also said that one of the keys to a warrior is being able to stay on a target.
Choose one or the other; CC or damage (like you said warriors were meant to do with the hammer), don’t keep both and make it an “ah well, I might as well push this button and see if it works”.
Out of interest, what are T1 guild group (zerg) warriors running since the patch? I’ve run hammer for a long time, but it’d be nice to check before I hit the “craft” button on my ascended set
I read somewhere that 3200 armor was a cap (can’t remember if they said hard or soft cap) – Is that right? Do people favour a few Sentinel pieces to maintain cap, or pick up precision gear?
@OP – Like Flissy said, it definitely depends on your playstyle. You won’t last long enough in Knight’s gear in the melee train, and roaming in full ptv is really stunting yourself.

Xoac will carry the points for GH to a higher tier where their primeforce will have trouble fighting the numbers of that tier, they will likely have less fun during that time then those that play in the morning

I can only agree with Deedles, there’s a well founded Community on Gunnar’s, built of friendly and helpful X-factor rejects from various guilds. The Guilds and Recruitment section on the forums at gunnars-hold.eu should give you a good base info on some of the various guilds here, and a point of contact.
If you do venture into WvW, be sure to register on the Gunnars Mumble server, there’s always a good lot of us on there and we’re always happy to help new people. It’ll keep you in contact with the group a bit more too, so you wont be wandering around lost, wondering what all the fuss is with WvW
Thanks to all on RoF and WSR, I definitely echo the sentiment that the weeks against you both before this last have been the best fun I’ve had in game since launch. Great, fair fights and proper dogged determination no matter the odds from all sides.

Don’t take this personally We don’t make our decisions on how much it’ll screw over Ring of Fire, we make our decisions based on what will make our community stronger, lasting and more enjoyable. Things will balance, and all will be rainbows and unicorns again.
Cheats are still something Gunnar’s won’t abide, tolerate or protect. The rumours of cheating was one of our key questions to XaoC and they, like any other Gunnar’s guild, hold the same stance that if anyone is seen to be cheating, action will instantly be taken. They have assured us that we can rely on them to uphold our zero-tolerance policy to cheats.
In broader scope, having stuck to Gunnar’s since launch and witnessed XoaC in the Blacktide building days and that thread, I was very sceptical about them and that they didn’t have the same morals and interests that Gunnar’s does. After chatting to them at length I was pleasantly surprised at the answers to all the questions we fired at them; it seems a very different guild from then, it is far smaller and holds the “fun over tier placement” line that we on Gunnar’s do.
I won’t go into everything as Insky’s post sets out Gunnar’s standards pretty well and I am reassured that XaoC will fit in well with that and our well-founded WvW Community. It’s what it’s all about anyway, a community.
Much respect for the RoF folks listed above, and those who are not. We’ve been matched against them for the last few weeks, and you can always guarantee a good fight.
I think most people here in the happily balanced lower tiers actually wish you a rapid and almost instant success. May your glorious points score immediately bunnyhop you up to Tier 5 and some more satisfying fights for you.
I understand what you’re doing, I really do. You could at least show a little humility and empathy though.
While we’re still in the matchup I’d just like to thank all 3 servers for a thoroughly enjoyable week of decent fights and general fair play. It’s been great to play in a much more balanced environment, clawing for points and appreciating some devious use of siege and manpower from all sides. Nice to be at Wednesday and 1st place isn’t unreachable by anyone.
Thanks RoF and WSR, I’m looking forward to next week already.
Overall it’s got to be Piken for me. Great organisation and skills, with a sporting and friendly attitude to match. I really hope the Gunnar’s get to play against them again at some point
I have a lot of respect for Whiteside and Ruins of Surmia as well though, the fights I’ve had against them have been thoroughly enjoyable.

Currently Gunnar’s Hold has some of the most dogged and unshakeable people I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside. We’ve formed a very fun and strong community through the recent months. We lost a number of guilds early on which forced us to really band together and get things working. Hard times forge hard people, and we’ve very much learnt to stand, fight and play smart against more numerous opponents. We’re not elitists; you find a certain breed of people willing to hold to the last and fight their way back up.
