I’ll throw in my two cents as a long time Guild Wars player.
I’m really just struggling to understand why my personal class progression requires GROUP content. Set the HP challenges to scale with the number of players in range and I’ll be happy.
I absolutely love the story so far. The zones are tedious but beautiful. I’ve died a lot more than I’d like to admit but I’m still enjoying myself overall. I can even get past the mastery gating since they’re account-wide.
But I can’t get past this weird idea that content requires 10 participants in order for it to be considered challenging. I thought that was what the raids were for.
After browsing through the forums, I can see that most of my concerns with this update have been mentioned more than a few times so I’ll just through my 2 cents worth of feedback here.
Been playing since the final stress test before release. Previously, I played GW1 during it’s open betas and then through each expansion. I have more than dabbled in other MMO’s and RPG’s in general. In other words, I am not a new player so my opinion may not be worth much to Anet regarding this New Player Experience…
But I dislike it. The early game no longer flows the way it used to. The new(ish) trait system, the level gating of skills/downed state/underwater combat, tutorials for dodging….everything feels so disconnected. I imagine I would have found it quite jarring if I were a new player and I had these screen pop-ups interrupting my play every 5-10 minutes. I was so drawn to the freedom this game promised at release. It seems like a step backwards. Unnecessary. Good ideas, poor implementation?
Resurrecting this thread now because I can’t find a newer one for the same issue.
This bug is still in game. I noticed the same thing. The nice pale outlined squares at the ends of the ribbons have turned to a hideous bright yellow. Looks terrible. Assuming this was an unintended change.
I understand what you’re going through. I haven’t logged in much for the past month because of this.
Fortunately, I was able to complete the zone. Unfortunately, now that I have enough karma for an exotic karma set, the temples are never under player control.
Something needs to be done. It may be an issue of some servers being underpopulated. I have no idea, but I’m becoming increasingly frustrated by it. I like your idea of dailies bound to the zone, but I’m not sure how much that will help underpopulated servers.
Why would you give a person a reward for something they didn’t do? Weren’t able to attend? Well then you weren’t able to attend, move on with your life. Complaining will not help, all you complainers saw this on the halloween event.
This is the argument that bothers me most. A lot of the people who received the reward chest were NOT around to participate on Friday/Saturday while people who DID participate these days but not on Sunday received NOTHING. The scavenger hunt was definitely enough work to deserve equal reward.
People aren’t asking for a reward for doing NOTHING. They’re asking for a reward for participating during the other parts of the weekend. Perfectly reasonable.
Sunday’s event was Sunday’s, not Friday’s and Saturday’s. The scavenger hunt was nowhere near enough to get an equal reward and I say this after doing the scavenger hunts and today’s events. They aren’t in the same league. You really are asking for something for nothing.
Unless of course you’re one of the people who got dc’d during the event before the end and couldn’t get their rewards. Those are the people I truly feel bad for and I hope Anet helps them somehow, but just them.
Then repeat the event. It IS absurd. And considering how bugged the NPC’s were, and how laggy and disappointing both Friday and Saturday’s “invasions” were, ya they are worth the reward. Either that or enjoying yourself through a 2.5 hour super fun event is NOT worth the exotic gear received. Honestly that last event was less painful than Friday OR Saturday.
Even so, I would like to see the event repeated if it was so much more enjoyable that the other stuff.

I think the idea to give the chest to all is completely insane.
I understand if you get DC’d during the event, I was such a person, had to go back about an hours worth of event. I spent a good few hours on it, and for someone to go to chest after doing nothing, I speak for a large portions of players, I’d be pissed to say the least.
As some have said, may as well just mail everyone a set of exotics for stepping on the island. ¬_¬
And the players who participated during the lag fest on Friday and Saturday? They deserve the nothing they received? Naturally.
All the time fighting through bugged out NPC’s to finish the scavenger hunt should account for something. Staring at these useless items in my inventory is just rubbing salt in the wound.

They also enjoy traveling it groups. I keep seeing this one escort fail (not a group event) because 5 of these drakes converge on the NPC’s and poor unsuspecting player(s). The broodmother herself is NOTHING compared to them. In fact, when working on that event, it was two of her babies respawning that killed my party of two.
This place is overall not worth the time and repairs.
Right. It really does suck. I never expected this to happen. I knew it was a one-time event but I thought any participation at all throughout the weekend would result in the same reward in the end, or at least something similar. A memoir, so to speak.
I participated all weekend. I did the scavenger hunt and the stuff at noon on Friday and Saturday, but I cannot make it online for early Sunday afternoons. I just can’t.
So despite having these event items in my bags and having completed several karka events, I will get no reward whatsoever. Not even a cosmetic item as a memory. Nothing. And to top it all off, when I talk to that lady Kiel in LA, she tells me “oh I’m so looking forward to seeing you rewarded at the end of all this for your efforts.” Ya, rub that salt in the wound…feels nice.
I’ve always been the voice of reason telling others to calm down and relax when things go wrong because Anet cares about its players and will never disappoint us in the end. Now…I’m just sad. Very sad. I never expected this at all.
Seriously, it’s quite clear that the wonderful individuals at ArenaNet have been (and are still) breaking their backs trying to make this event as great as possible. To put a patch out at 1:00 AM PST…that’s dedication.
They need to know that throughout all the bugs and errors, we dedicated players have never lost faith, knowing that they will NOT disappoint. They learn from mistakes and consistently listen to us while we whine and complain about wanting more. Amazingly patient people, each and every one of them.
Of course no one is perfect but that’s just human nature. They’re humans after all…at least…I assume so.
ArenaNet will not disappoint! <3 Thanks for all the hard work!
Yup the drop rate is definitely NOT working as intended. I just did the termite event in the Sylvari starting zone and got a stack of level 80 gear, including 2 rares.
What should I do with this stuff now…?
Edit: I deleted it all (cry) because I felt somehow guilty for finding an 80 rare on a level 2 mob.

Same thing for me. Went from over 2k (don’t remember exact number) to ~1700
There’s no reason to stay on your dead servers if you don’t like it… move up the list to something more lively if that is what you like. Leveling alts all weekend there were plenty of people around, even killed the fire elemental twice (might be because of the new boss/achieve people were after).
You make is sound so easy.
I don’t know if it’s because of the bot population or what, but even the “dead” servers are “high” and it’s not possible to transfer to a “full” server. HoD is dead even in Cursed Shore. We haven’t held a temple since Halloween and group events like the abomination and broodmother sit untouched for hours….yes, hours. I am not exaggerating in the slightest. And yet….HoD is high?
So many people say level 80s are concentrating in areas like Orr, but this is certainly NOT the case on HoD, a “high” server.
The game is doing exceptionally well, as far as I’m concerned. I play on Tarnished Coast and there’s never a shortage of players in pretty much any zone I venture to. If you don’t see anyone around, ask in map chat if anyone wants to team up.
I’ve been trying to get on TC for a while now but it’s always full. People who say the game is dying are on the wrong server. I’ve been on HoD since the headstart and I really want to move to a server with a bit more activity in areas other than LA. Even Cursed Shore is now empty. I used to see packs of 15+ running events and now I’ll be lucky to see 3. We haven’t held a temple for more than an hour since Halloween started. I doubt I will ever see my last piece of Karma gear.
I hear TC has an amazing community as well. HoD has more than its fair share of doomsayers and snobs.
I’m suffering from the same frustration at the moment, but compounded in a sense because I’m trying to transfer with four other friends at the same time. The one time I saw my target server drop to “High,” it was full again before I had a chance to contact anyone else.
Henge of Denravi does not have a “High” population. I assume that servers are “Full” and “High” right now because of bots? The only area I ever see highly populated on HoD is Lion’s Arch.
Since there are overflow servers, instancing, and greater player distribution now (apart from the mob in Lion’s Arch) I don’t see why server caps can’t be increased. Are the caps set for the sake of WvW? I spent so much time enjoying the PVE since launch that I never even participated in WvW. And now I don’t even have the option because HoD has completely thrown in the towel there.

I wish I could find the quote but I saw an Anet employee respond to this question once. The answer was something along the lines of “we need to save something for the expansion” followed by a happy emoticon!
I love this idea (or something similar to it)!
I’ve been on Henge of Denravi since day 1. At first I was pretty annoyed with the constant overflows (especially when parties were bugged) but now I would give anything to see them again. I desperately want to move to one of the “full” servers but I know that, even if I did (and could, because I can’t actually join a “full” server), the only “full” zone would be Lion’s Arch.
I don’t know why Henge of Denravi is still considered “high” when I see 5 people at any one time in any zone that is NOT Lion’s Arch. So now I’m stuck on a dying server since the mass WvW exodus a month ago, wanting to leave but unable to join any other servers because Lion’s Arch is “full.”
My plea to Anet: let me play with other players again!
