That would be kind of a bad spot for a level 80 zone, don’t you think? Not only because it’s right in the middle of lower level zones, but because it becomes an incredibly EASY level 80 zone to get to when compared to most of the others.
Wayfarer Foothills connects directly to Frostgorge Sound. Made that mistake the the first time I found that entrance.
My point is, what does it’s location have to do with the price of fish in Norway?
Proposal Overview
Fractal rewards (especially at high levels) are lackluster at best and need to be re-evaluated. The issue is twofold: lack of gold, and lack of actual reward.
Goal of Proposal
Right now, Fractal rewards scale horribly with the difficulty associated with them. I spent time and effort getting to Difficulty 50 (twice, mind you. Still bitter about removing my reward levels during Fractured.) and I feel like I am not rewarded for my time. A level 49/50 Fractal can easily take over an hour, especially with bad rolls. The reward should reflect that.
Proposal Functionality
The first thing I suggest is that for the gold reward at the end of Fractals, the game takes the minimum value of either your personal reward level OR the Fractal difficulty scale. So if my PR is 50 but we did a 32, the game would use 32. Conversely, if I was PR 41 and we did a 49, the game would use 41. Next, for the gold reward I would use the formula
min(personal reward level, fractal difficulty level) * 10 silver
So, for sake of numbers, I’ll provide 3 examples.
- John Warrior is PR46, but he runs a 32 with his friends. At the end chest, John Warrior would get 32*10s, or 03g02s00c.
- Jaime Elementalist is PR38 and runs a 42. At the end chest, Jaime Elementalist receives 38*10s, or 03g80s00c.
- Jane Necromancer is PR50 and runs a 50. At the end chest, Jane Necromancer would receive 50*10s, or 05g00s00c.
This solves the first half of the problem: the lack of gold reward. It brings it more in line with dungeon runs as far as time spent v. gold received. The second half of the issue comes from the craptastic rewards that RNGesus provides. The running joke is 2 blues and a green, but Fractals don’t even get that. More than half the time, I get nothing for my run. No ring, no ascended box, no fractal skin (I haven’t gotten a single Fractal skin since Fractured, mind you.). When I do get a ring, lately at 49/50 I’ve been getting an UNINFUSED ring. This makes me rage more than no reward at all. My proposal aims to fix the item compensation issue.
Each bonus chest has a chance at nothing, a ring, an ascended weapon/armor chest, or a fractal skin. I just have some minor tweaks to this.
The nothing roll becomes 1.5g. Straight up. You don’t get anything to help you with Fractals, so you get a little more coin. Seems fair to me.
The ring roll becomes as such: Fractal difficulty 1-20, uninfused. 20-30, infused, 30+ 2g. Seriously, by PR30, rings are no longer a reward. They become vendor trash. Now, if you wanted a chance at rings, just do a Fractal 1-30 to still get one as a drop.
Ascended weapons/armor chests: No change.
Fractal skins: Make these actually exist. I’m convinced they don’t anymore. (No one in my permanent Fractal group has gotten one since Fractured).
Associated Risks
If anything, for the first little bit it might flood the economy with more gold as people farm each tier of reward. Once the initial burst goes down, however, I don’t see any lasting effects, other than Fractals of the Mists getting a second wind.
First of all, let me say that I love Fractals. Ever since I started running them, they’ve been my favorite piece of end-game content, followed closely by WvW. However, ArenaNet consistently pokes their nose into Fractals, making it less and less fun to play. Why?
Let’s start off with one of the catalysts to this change in attitude towards Fractals not just from myself, but from much of the Fractal players I’ve talked to. Fractured. Fractured was a very hyped update that ended up shafting Fractal runners more than helping them. The most glaring issue (that to my knowledge still hasn’t been addressed officially) is the deletion of effort pre-Fractured. I’m talking about the Fractal level reset guys. Now let me be clear here. I understand why dropping it down to 30 was necessary, it allowed Fractal players to experience the new Mistlock Instability content. Fine, cool, I get it. But what about those players (like myself and countless others) who had reward levels far above 30? We got nothing. No recognition, no compensation, nothing. This was the first of the problems. Then, we have the revamping of the Fractal selections. While at first, this may seem nice, but it made Fractals that much more painful. For one, there are 12 Fractals. By cutting down the selection for the third Fractal, there’s now a 20% chance at the dreaded Dredge fractal than the normal 10% chance (12-2 already completed).
Speaking of the Dredge Fractal, why? Why why why why why do you not listen to the players who must suffer through this content and instead “fix” the very things that make the fractal manageable? I would much rather pull my own teeth out with safety scissors. You ask for player feedback regarding this Fractal, then completely ignore it and make it even worse. There’s been countless suggestions from your players to make the Underground Torture Chamber Facility fractal much more reasonable, why don’t you poke your head around in those topics and take notes.
But what really kills me is the absolute global nerf to the rewards from Fractals. Cool, you added a shiny new tonic and a rune/sigil combination. Neat. But you made weapon skins almost non-existant, and lets not forget about the ascended chests of legend. Pre-Fractured, I could reasonably expect a weapon skin every 4-7 runs of a 20+ and an ascended chest was actually fairly rare while still being obtainable. Now, ever since Fractured, I haven’t seen a SINGLE Fractal skin drop in any of my parties, ever. And I can count on one hand the number of ascended chests I’ve seen. Not to mention, doing 49/50 every day and I’m still getting UNINFUSED RINGS?! WHY?! I’d rather get no reward than an UNINFUSED RING after a level 50 Fractal. And the gold added to the end of Fractals? A joke. A single run if CoF p1 gives 66% of the gold that a level 50 Fractal completion gives, and takes literally a fraction of the time and effort. I’m not saying that you should have to compare the two, but at least make it reasonable? My suggestion? (MIN Reward level or Fractal Level) * 10s, so a level 50 Fractal with a Reward level of 50 would reward 5g. That’s fair for the time and effort sent getting that high.
So to summarize: Fractals need to be re-evaluated by ArenaNet. They got hit hard by the Fractured update, both FotM itself AND the people who enjoyed Fractals. Dredge sucks more with every “fix”, and the rewards are absolute garbage. I’d really appreciate a Dev reply regarding this, but I won’t hold my breath. Anywho, I’d like to hear the thoughts of my other victims fellow Fractal players. Thanks for reading my wall of text

If you’re gonna participate, leave as many buffs as you can off. Also, it’s considered poor taste to stake your opponent. Down them but then let them get back up. It’s a long walk for the server hosting it.
No I understand. Generally, my Guardian (main) will play with her face exposed during most of the week. However, on reset night the helmet comes on. It’s game time, not casual time.

I think that in addition to this, Warriors need a new trait in one of the lines (maybe Discipline?) in probably the Master tier that allows warriors to pick up their own banners and carry them as an offhand override. For example, if I’m in WvW and I’m using my Sword/Warhorn build and I drop my Warbanner, if I were to pick it up I would be using Sword/Warbanner. Swapping weapons would drop the banner at my feet.

Try fighting 10-1 odds in your own BL and NO-ONE on other borderlands to call in… THEN say how you dont mind it.
What’s this 1.5 business? TC is T2. Top dog in T2, but still T2. I’ve played since release, and we were in T4/5 when the game launched.
I have fought 10-1 odds in our own BL. We had 50PPT last night. I do mind it; I’ve said in a lot of other places that the variance needs to be brought down, but how do you propose to fix it without causing serious damage elsewhere?

In fact, you actively avoided attacking FA and let the two of you bully us on DB. So don’t complain about washouts if you’re going to facilitate the same behavior.

Any chance we will ever get a “lore-friendly” back item? AKA no wireframe backpacks, flapping wings, or flowers? How about a sword sheath, a shield, or gasp a cape/cloak?

1-2 months ago a dev said on this forum he would fix this to clear all and spawn only 2 at each party wipe, basicly resetting the seal as you would find it at 1st attempt.He said he couldn t give us a date but he was working on it….any news?

Regarding the mandatory guardian issue, it’s not really an issue. You can do a higher level without a Guardian, but Guardian(s) make it waaay easier because of all the projectile reflects.
As for the “thieves are awesome” thing, I’ll agree to a point… ONE thief is sought after in FotM, no more than that. From experience, the best group composition in a 48 that I really enjoy seeing is:
1-2 Guardians
1-2 Warriors
1 Thief
1 Mesmer

So the Account Wallet is great, phenomenal. I actually have the bankspace I paid money for instead of it being clogged up with tokens! However, is there any reason that Pristine Fractal Relics were excluded from the Account Wallet? They’re a currency too!
In all of the meta-event tool tips, The Pact is referred to as a plural object. “The Pact are moving on Death’s Gaze Torch” or “The Pact are assaulting the Temple of Balthazar” when in fact they shouldn’t be. The Pact is a single entity; three orders banded together for the sole purpose of dragonslaying. This means that The Pact is a singular, collective noun, much in the vein of team or class or alliance. It should read “The Pact is moving on Death’s Gaze Torch.”

I’d also like to see it affect your name in PvE as well, similar to how map completion does. For example, if you got to the Bronze Invader-Bronze Legend rank, your name bar would have the gold Veteran circle around your picture. Silver Invader-Silver Legend would net you the Champion circle, and Gold Invader+ would grant you the Legendary purple spikes.
This would allow players to show off their higher rank in PvE, plus it definitely gives people something to work for.
Also, I honestly think that your WvW rank should also be a title.

Read the text?! Some kitten people invite you to their party in wvw when they loose. I usually don’t accept invites from other server in wvw, but they can see your name even if you don’t accept the invite.
Better solution would be to not show the name, if you don’t accept the invite.
It already does this. It says <server name> <rank> until you accept the invite.
Ex: if you invited me to a party, it would say Henge of Denravi Raider until I hit that accept button.
I would like to change the color of my mesmer skills, could add this to the gem store, Arena net does not know how to earn money = p
The only problem is it could make it unfair for sPvP and/or WvW players. Since every class has a different color for skills (Blue is Guardian, Purple is Mesmer, Green is Ranger, Orange is Warrior, etc) it makes it easier to identify which class is which. Changing that would make it unfair in sPvP or WvW because you could “fake” your class. People do it all the time with transmuting the starting armor.
Everyone in this game has something they want to keep track of: Ectos salvaged, Number of Fractal Relics, amount of times you see some character dancing at the Mystic Forge in Lion’s Arch. The problem is that this game doesn’t give you a way to keep track of that yourself. You either have to keep a mental tally or use an external program. My suggestion is the addition of an in-game notes tab that allows copy and paste (for guild recruitment messages). In this tab, it would be a small text-editor that would persist upon log-out that you could make notes to for yourself. Personally, I would use it to record when I opened the Obsidian Sanctum chest last (since it is on a 24 hour reset instead of the daily reset).

No. That would defeat the whole point of 500 Badges of Honor required for the Gift of Mastery. You’re supposed to be a “master” of the game, why would there be an alternative to that?
Even if that is my only reason, it’s the best one to keep the system the way it is. PvE players can already get 10-20 BoH a day by doing the EB jumping puzzle alone. There’s more if you do each of the ones in the Borderlands as well.
To be honest, I’m sick of 100g being the only requirement for a Commander tag, mainly because my server (Henge of Denravi) has a huge problem with people buying Commander tags and parking their rear ends in Lion’s Arch, dancing on the ledge near the bank. I would wager that 60-70% of the Commanders in HoD have never set foot in WvW for more than a few minutes. What I’d like to see is ALL commander tags reset and the gold refunded. Then, the new requirement for Commander tags are the following:
- 100g price, account bound
- 1000 Badges of Honor
- Rank 120 in WvW (Legend rank)
This ensures that the Commanders know what they’re doing as their primary job, WvW. Also, make that stupid blue arrow only show in WvW (or at least not in the major cities) so that people don’t buy them just to feel special.
This is a bad idea. For one, just because of the existence of this new chat tab doesn’t mean that people will use it. I know I’d still advertise in map chat because 99% of players don’t have that one deactivated. Also, if you don’t like the recruitment messages, just block the recruiters. Simple. Don’t penalize the guilds who actively recruit just because you don’t want to see it while dancing on the ledges in Lion’s Arch.
Title says it all. A friend of mine just got Foefire’s Essence on his Mesmer and it looks fantastic! I’d like to see a one-handed version that could be made as well. Anyone else?
