Agreed. Ask in map chat or the NSP TeamSpeak (or whatever) what people are up to and go from there. There are obviously quite a few on NSP, and they’re probably thinking the same as you.

Plus, it may be worth seeing what this WvW overhaul will entail before spending gems.

I moved from TC to SoR a month or so ago and it’s definitely been an improvement. Varied matches, varies tactics, less or no spying, more skill (in my opinion), and the feeling of actually making a difference.

I can’t say I recommend SoR per se, population during OCX is pretty inconsistent (it’d be nice to have the option to blob up, but it’s only there on occasion) and some of the egos are real. I’d say somewhere around t4 is probably a good sweet spot for regular fights, whether it’s roaming, havoc, or blobbing. EBay sounds like a good option.

I’ve just moved back to TC for OCX last night. I’ve always found T1 roamers are more “gankers” over “duelers”. In that way you do find the vast majority run a cheesy thief. They have so much success catching lost zerglings that they delude themselves into thinking they are something.

I’m all for dropping the blob, if any TC guilds are looking for a keen learner for efficient havoc/blob busting/GVGs during OCX then drop me a line.

G’day, can you tell me some of the guilds/tags that run during OCX? I’m happy to search them to see what they’re about (assuming they have a recruitment message somewhere).

Nice! Well done SoR for playing the game as intended AND getting paid! (if it’s true). I wish we’d see the lowest scorer(s) making these moves more often. I’d love some sort of an Alliance function to be introduced to make these options easier.

I agree with the rest of your post, but I’m not sure if the tourny shows the “best players”. There are some great players, sure, but I’ve come to realise the tourny is usually won by the biggest stack, greatest coverage, cheesiest builds and tactics, and most guilds bought/bandwagonned. You could say they’re the “best” because they won, but I certainly don’t think the title fits. Apart from the cheesy builds, a 2v1 combats the automatic win-by-numbers.

It’s sure as kitten not cheating, some Anet devs have even said they’re surprised it doesn’t happen more often. One of the mechanics was that two servers could work together to put some pressure on a third server with greater numbers and/or coverage. It gives the two servers a better chance and the third server some competition. Win, win.

Not sure what server you’re on, but if you’re being consistently pressured by two bigger servers, then that’s horrible sportsmanship. Although, some servers deserve it anyway by having a poor/obnoxious attitude or QQing about it too much on the forums. Tear-chasing is a real thing, unfortunately.

Bonus points if you know a guild that meets <a href=“https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/guilds/lfguild/Oceanic-Missions-PvX-Active”>this thread</a>!, so I can commit 100% rep, but I know it’s almost impossible to check every box. I’m therefore just after an Oceanic havoc guild that I can run with most nights, and then rep a PvX guild outside of WvW.

Bit of a wishlist, I know, but I’m fairly flexible.

I’ve been an active player in a number of guilds on SBI/SoR/TC since beta as an event planner and runner, active forum member, forum/Steam/TS/Mumble moderator, and even Guild Leader. I want to be part of a guild that meets(ish) the following:

Oceanic presence and Missions (9am-2pm server time, 7pm-midnight AEST) – I’m an Aussie, so I’d obviously prefer that the guild roster is active when I am.

PvX – I play mostly WvW, but I enjoy every area of the game. It’s not overly important that the guild I join plays WvW (as long as they aren’t anti-WvW), as I can easily continue joining others on my current server. I would prefer to have a guild I can play with 100% though. Bonus points if you havoc. Even bonuser points if you’re on TC as I have enough gems to transfer but would prefer to keep them for shinies.

Active comms/chat – I enjoy meeting and getting to know my fellow guildies. I enjoy Guild Chat BS as well. I like to play GW2 as an MMO, not in silence by myself, or with a dead guild chat. I already have all voice comms installed.

Small/medium size – I’d prefer to make friends and build a guild/community over getting lost in a large guild. I’m flexible on this, as a larger guild means more friends and sometimes a stronger community.

If you can tell me a guild that meets(ish) these requirements, I will love you forever.

I’d jump on forthetoast and check out the guild roster to get an idea of the active guilds’ bio. You could also check out the Mumble to get an idea of active numbers and personalities, and to ask any questions. Good luck! It’s a genius server.

In almost all cases it’s the micro-peen.

Granted, sometimes it’s justified (eg. trolls getting owned), but it’s always about making one person feel bad while making yourself feel bigger.

The exception is having a genuine laugh – responding to a funny joke or situation (eg. your blob jumped off a cliff). Even then, it’s often with one hand on your crotch, assuring yourself that it’s a “good size”.

If you see an enemy /laugh at you, try not to feel bad for them for too long, they’re doing the best they can. Blame the underwear companies for making the front section too generous.

People are idiots. “Uplevels are a liability”, kitten . Genuine lunacy. They’re a ranged asset, and they’re certainly not going to get to the point where they can get more involved after this sort of toxicity. I do understand an untagged guild group being worried about a sub-60 being targeted and rallying any downed, but as above “they better be kittening polite about it”.

You know what, I decided I am no longer going to be negative, anet doesn’t care and I am just upsetting myself. Good luck to all servers. NSP, Let us do our best and try to get as high as we can in silver.

You’ll also get a lot more transfers this week by staying positive. Everyone loves an underdog, embrace it. There’s not a lot between the rewards for coming first and last, and the rounds will be more varied. Enjoy playing the game and you’ll probably be surprised by the end result.

Cheers to those that have given me info on Northern Shiverpeaks so far. It sounds pretty sweet, and all the building blocks are there for developing Oceanics further.

For NSP and other free servers, videos would help a tonne to get the feel of numbers, organisation, atmosphere, etc during the oceanic timezone.

Anyway, I’m not sure about joining a server with TOO much Oceanic presence in the lower tiers, you can easily be matched up against one or even two servers with far less ocx presence, and end up matching the map all night waiting for things to flip.

I’d also take into account forum warriors as they can give a good indication of the server climate. Every server has drama, sure, but at least one of the servers rabbiting on here is getting infamous for excessive drama. Gross.

Can anyone who plays with or against (respectfully) Northern Shiverpeaks give me some feedback on NSP in regards to Oceanic PvE and WvW?

How are others finding NSP?

If anyone knows Tempest Fury you’ll know that Leo and Jolly etc are legit great server assets – knowledgeable, ballsy, and friendly.

Just be prepared for Leo to start lagging/rubberbanding all over the map when his uncle starts downloading pr0n.

I know a pretty solid group of Oceanic PvXers looking at Northern Shiverpeaks.

Any thoughts on NSP for:

• Oceanic
• PvE
• WvW?

TC was stable before transfers, the core will be just as stable even if they move again, or even stronger if they stay.

TC may be a triple-threat: great gameplay, great stable community, and a contender for top WvW spot. Could hopefully be the dawning of a new t1 era.

Or not. Either way, TC will continue on as usual.

Give it a week or two before you decide to move on. They seem to be getting better. We were effectively being farmed at one point today outside Stonemist, but it was fun to actually have a fight and see some legs. It might take a little while forJQ and BG to learn to de-blob, but there is potential.

Back on topic: guilds love TC because they’re mostly nice, they pull out some fun and ballsy moves, and provide a great atmosphere. There are definitely some issues here and there, but overall TC is an amazing home.

Yes (for tier 2 server and a few below).

It makes a range of things a little more interesting – new/“PvE” players, different servers, nice to think at least a little about PPT and stomp vs cleave. If you’re not feeling it, you can ignore it or play EotM. The bandwagoners also pump Anet’s coffers with funds for improving current content and developing new things.

Fully understand those not as interested in playing with or versing the T1 blob-only playstyle, and I feel for those in lower tiers that will be affected by transfers and being rolled, but it will be fun for me.

Organised blob, pug blob, skilled blob, map blob… All blobs.

Don’t try to church up the fact that you’re blobbing.

Maybe some sort of arc/chain damage, so the more people in your zerg the more damage you take.

I’m not even on SBI and I can tell that you’re talking out of your pooper.

Sure, they may drop down a tier or two, but I highly doubt they’re dying or there’s a “mass exodus”. They may not move at all. From what I’ve heard and experienced, SBI have some great players and guilds with a strong fighting spirit, I think they’ll be fine.

I transferred recently to another server after about a year on SoR and still have a lot of love for it. I had an absolute blast meeting and playing with so many awesome people and definitely wouldn’t rule out returning, but I found some issues that were better solved on my new server.

This is only my personal experience (although there may be others in my boat), and it was a month ago, so feel free to disregard or take on my suggestions as you like. These things contributed to me leaving SoR at the time:

1. Some terrible attitudes towards PvE’ers.
Too much false elitism and thinking it’s funny/clever to rag on anyone even considering anything PvE (whilst wielding multiple Legendaries, Fractals loot, etc). I know this is an issue on every server, but I genuinely expected better from SoR as I always thought of it as “the fan’s server”. Having a good guild is pretty much the biggest incentive I could have to keep playing GW2, and these negative attitudes poisoned my thriving guild, pretty much killing it. The general elitism against new players, or uplevels, is terrible too. They’re the next wave of assault in WvW, it doesn’t take much to send them back to PvE or WoW. The only advice I can give on this is don’t be a kitten.

2. Very little focus on havoc/small team tactic.
Like so many other people, I much prefer to play this way. I literally couldn’t find a guild that suited me (I had some other preferences as well – active Oceanic presence, and no rep requirements). When I finally found one, we almost immediately moved to this new server. On the plus side, I barely saw anything other than blobs from JQ or BG either, which brings me to:

3. Massive focus on blobbing.
It seemed to me that you either had to blob, or get rolled by a BG/JQ blob. Many people like this playstyle, but I get sick of it. I see a lot of chest-thumping and defensiveness on the forums, but in my experience each T1 map has three blobs, all with the current meta’s builds, and whoever has the biggest blob wins. Of course it wasn’t always the case, but it was far and away the most common situation. Commanders would outwardly get shirty because not everyone on the map was on them. There are only so many times you can hear “Fire fields, empower” before throwing your blob at another. Since moving, I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see, hear, and experience ballsy moves that sometimes pay off, and are actually fun to take part in. Many more people are comfortable in communicating on Voice comms, rather than just the Commander. I get the feeling this is getting better on SoR in the last month since I left, so my only advice would be to keep pushing it. Keep trying new strategies/builds, encourage feedback from others on TS, and offer more than a being just another number in the blob.

4. BG.
Man, so much rat-poop, I genuinely feel bad for any good players that exist on BG. So many exploiters, DDoSing, gankers, dirty deals, and blobbing. Certainly not much fun to play against. I’d rather have decent fights than just collecting bags from a favourable blob-clash. I can’t offer any advice here except don’t stoop to their tactics, and stop whinging about them on the forums, absolutely no-one cares about T1. The only way you’ll get rid of the BG mindset is when they implode or you come down to a more enjoyable tier.

5. Disjointed vision.
It’s been said elsewhere, but it seemed SoR found it hard to agree on what type of server it wanted to be.
~ Is it “a fun fan-server”, channeling the spirit of Roger “Old Roar” Rall? If so, why the tanties over people doing one night of Karma Train after a long week of work? Why make such a fuss about “PvE scrubs” or uplevels?
~ Do they truly “only play for fights”? If so, why care about being/staying T1?
~ Or are they “a T1 server”? If so, play like one and “get the tick”.
I think you’ll find that you have people of all mindsets, so embrace them all. Calm down on PvE’ers/uplevels/karma trainers. Play for fights if you want to, but don’t get annoyed if someone is pushing to “cap before the tick”.

6. “SoR will fight until the bitter end”.
This was a comment that I saw, and see similar comments fairly regularly. It was one of the big realisations that I had to move. It’s a game, why on earth would I want to play during “the bitter end” if I don’t have to? Don’t get me wrong, I admire server pride and improving/building up the community, but if you can get more out of the game elsewhere then no-one can fault you for it.

Unless you move to BG.

Agreed, it’s really weird. I play 90% WvW, 5% PvE, and 5% Trading Post. The best players I know spend the majority/all of their time in PvE and the worst players (cheesy D/P thieves) I’ve come across are found in WvW.

The negativity going both ways has killed many guilds and servers, I’ve seen it firsthand.

TC would be my first pick, as I play at least 50% WvW and would prefer not to fork out transfer fees, but I’ve struggled to find an active PvX guild on TC that runs Guild Missions during Oceanic primetime.

Not JQ or BG – Much respect to JQ as opponents over the last year and a half, but my hatred for your red nameplates runs a bit too deep to run alongside you. I’d feel a bit like a traitor, sorry! I won’t comment too much on my thoughts regarding BG in WvW.

PvX – I generally play mostly WvW, but I enjoy every area of the game. It’s not overly important that the guild I join plays WvW, as I can easily continue joining others on TC. As long as they aren’t anti-WvW. I would prefer to have a guild I can play with 100% though. Bonus points if they havoc.

Sanctum of Rall – I love the SoR community. Great people, great Commanders, plus I would prefer not to fork out transfer fees. I may transfer if all other areas can be met.

Oceanic – I’m an Aussie, so I’d obviously prefer that the guild roster is active when I am.

PvX – I like playing every area of the game, I’m not interested in any guild that genuinely refers to anyone’s game as “carebear”/“scrub”/“casul”. Jokes are great, but genuine elitism is gross.

WvW havoc/roaming – I spend a lot of time both zerging and roaming, but recently I’ve found it hard to find a havoc/roaming squad.

Active comms/chat – I seriously enjoy meeting and getting to know my fellow guildies. Voice comms are obviously important in WvW. Also, I like to play GW2 as an MMO, not in silence by myself, or with a dead guild chat. Happy to download other voice comms if required.
