They can’t do it. Seriously…I don’t like to berate the developers but…. There’s 3 suits of appearance armor in the Gem Store. If you tally it by “number of suits a character can wear”…there’s actually 1. ONE Then they just put in a broom which is utterly and completely useless even as a merely cosmetic device.
Actual mounts? They don’t seem to have the skills.
Money-grubbing, pure and simple. Pay…or wait…but not both. Naked greed will do this game in.
9: More buyable skins in the store. It’s sad to have to say that Arena.net’s money-grubbing is absolutely shameless (see my comment about Tixx cog’s later on)…but it is absolutely shameful. Yet the one place where you really could make “honest” money is by selling weapon / armor skins in the Gem store….and you don’t? (And I’m sorry, even though I know a few people undoubtedly bought the chef outfit…it doesn’t really count does it?) I don’t mind if the skin I buy is only for the toon that I buy it for and no one else on the account.
10: A toon-based personal bank would be so handy. The shared bank is good but isn’t really good for storage.
11: Speaking of skins and storage. How about a costume locker to save our skins? I buy a suit and instead of having to save it in the shared bank (more shameless money-grubbing) it goes into a “remembered” closet that I can then pull from any time I want to swap my looks. Check out how The Secret World does it. It’s toon-based rather than account-based and works great. I don’t mind buying the same item for each character.
12: Why are all the female characters given the option of wearing a full suit or bra-and-panties (or some other variation on the “kitten” look)…but male characters are only layers and layers and layers and layers. Some of us men like to run around nearly naked too! And some women (and other men) like to look at nearly naken men. Just because the designers and programmers seem to be sexually inactive and uptight doesn’t mean the rest of the world is.
13: Build swapping. This game has (as far as I can tell) 3 basic modes: PvE, Dungeon, and PvP / WvW. And it seems that each one has a need for a different set of skills / traits. Please give us the ability to set up three different skill sets, one for each. Then we can easily swap out the skill set we want to use instead of bogging down the game to stop, pull up the H sheet, and make the changes one-by-one.
14: Regarding money grubbing. You will make money by giving us a reason to play and spend money. You lose money by being BLATANTLY OBVIOUS in your money grubbing. Look at the Tixx cogs. What a fun idea…go in, do the dungeon, win, and get the stuff to make the toy of the day. Except what did you do? You didn’t award us enough cogs to make all the toys. That’s unforgivable enough, but what else did you do? You made each toy cost 250 cogs, and then you only gave us 950! We can make 3 and then have 200 left! We’re 50 cogs short of making the 4th toy, there’s no way to get more, no way to make the other 2 toys! Who thought that THAT was a good idea?
15: Mini-me. So you have town clothes, which is a completely silly thing. So how about a mini…me. Equally silly. Not too hard to do, I would think.
16: Speaking of those minis and pets. I get that you want to reward people who played GW1 by giving them goodies. But it really is an insult in a “collections” game to punish players by putting in things that they cannot possibly get. (See: money grubbing). There are numerous pets and minis that we non-GW1 folk cannot get..ever. The correct thing to do is to give them to the GW1 folks instantly but make us non-GW1 folk earn them! It’s a game about questing…give us some quests!
That’s about all I have for this go around. Time to find that one POI I’m missing…
1: Tab Targeting. Please fix it to target the NEAREST HOSTILE mob, then cycle outward…and hostile from there. I am sure I’m not the only person to be in a mass fight, kill one mob, press Tab—thinking I’ll get the next closest hostile—and instead get a stag, moa, grub, etc., several mobs out that gets added to the fray.
2: Town Clothes. Yes, I know it’s “for fun” but… (a) as long as there’s only 2 outfits in the store and (b) there’s no point in buying any…I won’t. Now if you set it up so that when we go into a city we are automatically forced into town clothes, I’ll buy some… but only if I have more than two choices. (Yes, I’m exaggerating a bit. It’s for effect.)
3: If I stow my Ranger pet, he should STAY stowed. It’s very frustrating to be in a jumping puzzle, stow the pet so I can see, then if I so much as take 1hp of falling damage, or some plant shoots out me, out pops the pet to block the camera again.
4: Conversely, mini-pets should keep their status when we teleport or die. Yes, it’s a minor thing but every time I zone, or TP within a zone, or die, I have to open inventory and use him again. Give us a box on our H character sheet to put a mini, and a control box (like the helm / shoulders) as to whether he’s in or out…and let him stay that way.
5: Speaking of the checkbox for helms and shoulders and back. The box says “Hide / Unhide” with a checkbox. When checked…what does the check do? Checked is hidden? Checked is unhidden? We don’t know. Yes, I know we could check/uncheck, then look, but that’s not good usability. Change it from a check to an X and an “eye” icon. Then we’d know: X means “not” and the eye means “visible.” That’s more or less standard in other applications.
6: Fix the mail system addressee autocorrect. I cannot tell you how often I’ve had to write to someone to ask for goods back after I type the name of the toon I want to send the item to, and the mail program CHANGES the name to something other than what I typed in!
7: Preview in the Trading Post! With previews everywhere else, including the chat window, how could anyone there have thought it would be a “good thing” to not have Preview in the marketplace !?
8: In game voice chat. EverQuest 2 does it, so it can’t be that hard.
That doesn’t change the OP’s point. When you “deposit all collectibles” the minis go too. Yes, they’re collectible, but let’s look at (what I shall call “reality”). Most players use Deposit All Collectibles to instantly deposit crafting materials. Minis are not materials. Change the text, maybe, to read “Deposit all Materials”…or exclude Mini’s from being taken…or give them an exclusion text box (like masks / hoods / shoulders have in the H menu). It’s not that hard.
I realize that some of these may have already been suggested…but who has time to check through all the posts?! So here’s my list. I hope you give them some consideration. (Splitting this into 2 posts, since I’ve apparently gone over the limit).
Part II
12: Why do I have evade and learn what monster “range” attacks look like if I can’t actually evade them? I see the guy draw back his bow, I see the arrow fly, I move quickly aside….it hits me anyway! Do the mobs never miss?
13: I know you did a lot of testing and balancing (or so we’re lead to believe) but I feel that many of our effects are simply too brief in exchange for what they do and the reuse timer. For instance (and I know I’m making most of this up) but my “root” spell lasts 2 seconds, but takes 45 to refresh! (whatever the actual ratio is). That’s really not helpful.
14: Some monster respawns are just too fast. Look at all the mobs around the Blood Witch!
15: Consumables are nice, but having to press i, then find it, then right-click it, then click USE etc., takes far too long! Please give us a consumables hot bar (4-6 slots) so we can quickly activate a potion, etc.
16: So I have a set of skills for when I’m in a group. But another set for when I’m solo. And other for when I go through a dungeon. But….when I change roles, I have to stop and swap out skills depending on what I’m doing. Please give us a way to quickly swap out a build for what we want to do. Doesn’t have to be something swappable in mid-combat, but something we can set up, then just click and change to a different role.
17: People rarely wear “town suits” in town. They wear their combat gear. How about making the town suit an automatic switch? (or an option for “automatically switch” vs “stay in battle gear”?
18: Secret Word has costumes that, when bought, go into a “digital closet,” so that they’re available, but don’t take up room in our inventory / bank. How about something similar to that for fashion things we buy from the Lion Market? Then allow us to do a “ghost transference” so that we can take the appearance of the item that’s stored in our closet and apply that appearance to what we want to wear.
19: Why isn’t there a built-in voice/chat client? EQ2 has been doing this for years! It can’t be new/difficult at this point? Stop making us rely on Skype / Ventrillo, etc. Build it in!
20: I forage ore, wood, food stuff. Where’s the plant fibers (or whatever) for tailoring?
21: Why-oh-why are most game developers afraid of male bodies? Look at the womens’ outfits….giant boobs, scantily clad outfits, lots of skin. Now look at mens’ outfits, layers and layer of cloth and every man’s package is “smooth as Ken doll.” Please, wake up. Some of us guys have more than 4 inches (and the rest want to look / feel like they do) …and some of us like to dress as kittenty as the women. Give us that stuff too!
22: There’s lots of non-combat creatures (rabbits, raccoons, etc). Why not let us collect those as well? Perhaps at some point (if you do housing, or the similar) these creatures could appear in our personal “zoo”.
I realize that some of these may have already been suggested…but who has time to check through all the posts?! So here’s my list. I hope you give them some consideration. (Splitting this into 2 posts, since I’ve apparently gone over the limit).
Part I
1: The ingame maps do not show portals to other zones once they’re discovered. (Dungeons seem to.) Please fix this.
2: Allow us to mark our maps with our own notes. Secret World does this. This could actually fix #1. I remember reading that there’s a “fading” marks thing..but this doesn’t help.
3: I love the Ranger runs around collecting his pets! It encourages them to explore and visit unusual areas (other than just map completion). How about something similar for the other classes? Interesting “appearance only” masks for Mesmers, for instance. Or similar.
4: My Ranger’s pets keep forgetting their names. I bring one one, name it…later I swap pets…then I swap back, and the first has forgotten his name.
5: Set our accounts to have first-name and last-name and then require us to only type in the first name when we talk to someone. Having to type in the player’s full name is…tedious.
6: Are the minis on a timer? I turn around and mine is gone! Make them permanent until I get rid of him.
7: Put in some sort of “plastic surgeon” that will allow me to change my looks. Not race, not class….just looks.
8: How about a way to change the colors of our effects? Champions Online does this. So, I play a “plant-race” Mesmer. All his effects are purple. But perhaps I want to “go green”….give me a way to change my effect colors to green.
9: I try to use a ranged skill on a target..and he’s out of range. Then I have to wait 45 seconds (or whatever) for that skill to recycle! If it’s out of range, don’t penalize me! Out of range = instant reset.
10: Similarly, after a battle is done, there’ s no reason to make me wait 45 seconds for a skill to reset. You speed up my hit point regeneration, after all! So…after a fight, when all is clear, speed up my reuse timers as well!
11: Some events (like Scholar Brogan) drop chests…some (like the huge Centaur string in Kessex) don’t. (a) why the difference? (b) could you put in a notice after an event that says “XXX mob’s loot has appeared in that chest!” so we don’t leave without looting a chest we didn’t know was there?
