Holding SM in an even fight is detrimental to PPT.
Ahahaha this and replace blue BL with the EotM map, it would be the ultimate WvW… not, but lol.
Seriously though, EotM and red BL are the two maps Anet has put effort into since the release, and they both ended up detrimental.
Good video but yeah, you would have trouble making it on NA. You’d get swarmed down by 5+ condi scrubs instead of finding 1v2s.
Any logic that goes by “a reset is too early” or “a reset is too late” is flawed in WvW, because in reality a reset lasts 24 hours. Yes there is that initial burst, but every time zone still carries its weight in that initial push and shapes the rest of the week. It was more so when there was actual balance between servers, but pushing the reset forward doesn’t actually change the way the week is played, just the sense of the event gets taken away from some NA.
On that note I personally would prefer an earlier reset than what it is now.
Hello Anet,
I have a lot of things to say about the current state of WvW, but I will be concise and focus on two things:
- Get rid of the passive play (condi) meta
- Fix the lag
The two go hand in hand. EB is unplayable nowadays due to lag because the condi meta brings too much lag with big fights. Whenever you have a “per second” tick it brings lag. Now that’s all the game is about. Stop it.
The megaserver killed a lot of things about WvW. It’s is worse than ever now. Fix it, or WvW will be gone with the next decent competitor. It is embarrassing what you have done with HoT and the subsequent changes. Go back to the roots, do more votes, and re-think your balance.
Mag are a bunch of trolls and there’s no changing that.
Baldrick, instead of sounding high and mighty why don’t you go to HoD and practice what you preach? I’m curious to see how long you’ll last.
Mag, JQ and BG belong in T1. The gap between them and the rest of the servers is massive. All we can do is pray to RNJesus and hope they all end up T1 next week (especially Mag).
My guild is looking for another game to play. Wvw is just so meh anymore, so why bother spening the time on gw2. We do still show up, but nowhere near as much as we use to.
Makes me sad to see a game mode I loved become…. kitten. Shame on you Anet.
Sums it up for me as well. Community is the only thing that keeps me logging on at all. WvW itself stopped being fun after HoT and now it’s just a big pile of kitten stuff.
But the current meta basically is a hammer train meta.
Sure with all the CC you could call it that, only there are no ham warriors or pushes anymore. Everyone just circle-jerks each other from a distance.
Funny enough it’s the case across the skill levels, too. The hordes of new players are too afraid to push and are generally just there for the karma. The more experienced players pirate harder than ever. Sure there’s still some pushing, but all the bigger guilds I’ve seen lately run hard CC condi pirateship so you can’t even catch them.

The current meta is by far the worst I have seen in this game yet. RIP power, no wonder nobody plays it anymore. It used to be that at least in 15+ fights power was preferable because you could effectively cleanse each other, but now it’s just all condi condi condi.
Having condi cleanse doesn’t really help anymore because condi is so bursty, the cast time of cleanses just isn’t fast enough. Plus everyone combines condi with tanky builds and a lot of CCs, which counters power completely. Then you get stuff like perma-evade thieves and the fact such supercheese builds even exist shows how little Anet understands about PvP.
Bring back the hammer train, please!
When I first saw the mentor tags I thought, “Hey, there’s one HoT thing that might help WvW!” but nope, mentor tags are for PvE only… that’s on top of the bad new map and the pay-to-win shield generators. RIP WvW.
They should put a flax patch in the middle of every WvW map, now that would spice things up =E
The biggest WvW flaw I can see is the megaserver and the fact that the individual servers are redundant. I was hoping that they would address this issue in the expansion, but instead they replaced a map that wasn’t broken with another. Some creative thinking is necessary here if the WvW community is to be saved outside of top tiers. Server mergers might help, but I would rather see a change that removes servers entirely, because right now they ONLY exist as an idea to separate the player population, and it’s not working well at all.
Better do what Pooka says or GW2 is done for! I will miss my personal guilds too. What did our guild buffs ever do to you, Anet?

90% of the time I spent in GW2 has been in WvW, and this expansion just puts the final nail into the WvW coffin. The new maps are clunky, don’t add anything original, and are designed around the Tier 1 meta. There are reasons why that meta only works in T1, and this new map will make things even more unbalanced and tedious for the majority of WvW players. Besides that the WvW players got practically no content, since you have to grind through many hours of PvE just to be able to play one of the new specializations. WvW has already been dying for a while, at least in North America, and with this expansion I see no improvement whatsoever.
As a side note there is also this thing called GvG. For a long time the GvG community has been begging devs for a place of their own, and what did they get? The guild halls, which require thousands of gold to be able to actually get the arena. Considering that GvG guilds average 60-80 people and the guild hall system is tiered for 400+ guilds with their crazy prices we might as well put WvW and GvG into the same coffin.
Crystal Desert Desert Borderlands anyone?
Everything is gated… by LOTS of gold when it comes to guild halls. Don’t expect to have what you want any time soon.
Edit: To actually answer your question, yes there is a predetermined order.

How about them 400 hero points to play the spec you wanted for just one character? Never mind that you’ve already played him for 2000+ hours. How is this kind of mentality supposed to bring new players to the game? I was hoping for an addition to the game that would add more fun to the original content, not a time gate that makes me feel like I have to start all over again.

“This is what MMOS are all about. Give us $60.”
NSP is an amazing group of people. Some of the best fighters I’ve seen in silver tier. We’ve been through thick and thin together, and still going strong. Come join us!

I wouldn’t be surprised if Anet uses this matchup to argue how great and successful these tournaments are… but this is just one extraordinary example (NSP, for example, has had a bunch of people pulling all-nighters, going way above and beyond) …when it should be the norm.
Every week, every matchup should be three servers fighting for first place, resulting in close scores. It’s really a big fail on Anet’s part that this is not the case.
They cannot use this week as an example of the system working well because according to glicko this week should not even have happened. NSP has upset the tournament predictions 3/4 weeks and is coming 2nd in silver straight out of being in bronze.
This weeks shows a deeper complexity of this game, which is what keeps it alive and interesting. Glad to have experienced the week and the tourney personally, and hoping to see many more great matchups to come. NSP pride!
WvW’s single greatest problem as a format is that the economy was set up to mirror a modern civilian/miltary relationship instead of a feudal one.
I beg to differ. The feudal system is there, just not in the direct rewards. At the same time, PPT is expensive, and more often than not people don’t pay for it enough. It ends up falling upon the individuals that care about something other than the rewards offered to us currently.
EotM is broken, and so are the rewards. It’s not about the rewards though. The challenge contributes to the fun, but to a point.
NSP is definitely a good choice if you are looking for roaming and smaller skill groups. There are always plenty of friendly, experienced players looking for good fights. Don’t be shy and give a holler if you do end up transferring to NSP.
