I originally created this build as a joke, but it turned out to be decent at attrition in WvW so I’m sharing it with you all, for a good laugh. It’s built around the many Engineer traits that relate to Endurance; Adrenaline Pump, Adrenaline Implant, Empowering Adrenaline, Stabilized Armor, and Vigorous Speed — you can pull off around 6 dodges in a row with this setup, and it only takes a swap to the medkit and 3sec to get it all started again; in that 3 seconds, you have your shield, and your Gear Shield as well! The damage comes primarily from Static Discharge crits and Bleeds, but it’s far more fun to watch people actively leave fights because you take too long to kill.
I went with Centaur runes over Speedy Kits, so I could reduce the cooldown on Gear Shield with Power Wrench.
In the end, though, this is the best laugh I’ve had in a few days.
Forecast foggy, with chance of flaming snow.
Check in with the heralds for updates. There are hints of things to come already in the game.
The playable Living Story content will start appearing tomorrow (January 29) at around noon Pacific Time in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. When the events start in Diessa Plateau, you’ll be sent an in-game mail letting you know about it. However, if you’re already logged in when that happens, you need to change maps to receive it.
They aren’t one time events, are they?
I of course can’t be sure, but I suspect they’re trying out a new storytelling medium that finds happy-medium between One-Time Map Events and incremental static map/world changes, by having those incremental static changes occur over the period of a week or two. You wouldn’t miss anything specific, though you might miss as much as you’d miss your first time through a map.
Or I’m overly-optimistic.
@Asglarek, I suspect the term “Alpha Team” refers to their (assumed) pinnacle-level of skill and discipline, rather than the “alpha” stage of development.
Edit: “(assumed)”
there actually is a hidden alpha behind the scenes.
I’m aware of the so-called “Alpha Team” but I wasn’t sure as to the details; I thought it was an internal team of players, and not necessarily in the pool of regular players with everyone else — or, if they were in there with us, bound by non-disclosure as to their findings in the Alpha Team test runs.
But as to the subject at hand, I want the heralds to show up…
Unless I’m mistaken, there is no Public Test Server, and EverythingXen’s comment served as dry satire as to a way to improve patch stability and player acceptance of content.
There’s a spot in Kessex Hills, right beside a waypoint with three tents in either the Henge of Denravi or the other swampy area; every time I’ve been there, all the NPCs are dead and standing on their corpses are a handful of bandits. Clearing out the bandits spawns more bandits, and they seem to be never-ending; if you get enough of the NPCs back on their feet, they’ll live for a short while but the endless waves of bandits eventually overwhelm them. I’ve seen people show up at the waypoint and get overwhelmed by the problem as well. People will fill their Heart mission up killing the endless waves but then abandon the little camp, assuring its demise once more. There are eight to ten spawning, usually in the sequence I kill them with a 30sec to 60sec delay (except the first time around; they go down and nigh-immediately respawn at a distance and run in), and with that many spawning it can be quite difficult to even keep track of spawn rates, let alone clear the area and revive all the NPCs.
Unless you meant for me to practice my bunker-builds there.
I leave town for a couple days and oh, you all amaze me! Thank you so much, I’m gonna need a little more time to get all the information sorted and updated.
Engineers! <3
Nice thread idea, Loybo. Two quick things — while SD is a fairly high DPS build (but probably not as high as HGH Elixirs), I think it’s even more notable for being our highest burst build (important for player killing). The other thing is that SD pairs great with Grenades and because you don’t yet have a link to a build for that, here is a thread I wrote on that build:
Thanks Destroyer! I’ll update the thread to clarify this with SD, and add the variation.
Anyone else have builds or variations they’d like to add to the list?
Because I was working through the builds anyway…

Static Discharge is the silicate shooter of choice these days, from what I’ve seen, with variations into Explosions for the procs. It’s not perfect but I think it might be the closest the Engineers have until ArenaNet fixes our bugs.
HYBRID
SD/GRENADES
I had originally slotted this as a variation on Static Discharge, but after testing it out for a while, I kinda fell in love and realised it has a lot more hybrid utility than just its burst; thank you, Destroyer, for a great Engi build.

FLAMETHROWER/ELIXIR GUN
A mixture of AOE damage and steady condition removal/healing that benefits from the combined traits for these two weapons.

POTATO GUN RIFLEMAN
Shooting Idaho Spuds from a SPAS-12 is far more satisfying than it sounds. Rifle-y burst combos and lots of CC in this package. I tested this build out with a pop-gun skin; I recommend it. Thanks to Lightbane.
VIGOROUS KITSWAPPER
Four kits. Perma-swiftness with Perma-Vigor. Sigil of Energy. In case you felt like you couldn’t dodge enough on the Giganticus Lupicius fight.

ADDENDUM
I lost the post the first time I wrote this so the great descriptions for each have been omitted; I’ll add them later but if you have a short description of one of these builds you think would help a person judge at a glance its purpose and value, go ahead and share that too! In fact, SHARE ALL THE THINGS.

There are a lot of great builds going up on the forums right now, for Engineers, and whether or not ArenaNet will respond to us regarding the philosophy and direction behind the class, I thought it might be prudent to make a thread of those great builds, and see if we can’t get it stickied!
You all have been a great help so far! We’re up to 14 builds (including variations) split into four categories; Bunkers, Cannons, Support and Hybrids. Thank you all, and continue posting your builds!
EDITS: Added Lunar Corporation’s listed builds to the best of my ability, as well as a couple more builds from around the forum. In addition, I sorted the builds into categories. | Added Destroyer’s SD/Grenades build and clarified that Static Discharge has high DPS but can also be used for our best bursts. | Added Lightbane’s Potato Gun Rifleman as a hybrid. | Added Gurpmeister’s Rifle Variation to the Bomb Healer build. | Moved SD/Grenades to it’s own heading under Hybrids.

GRENADIER
Arguably our highest DPS option in a weapon kit, with more damage and condition damage than you can shake a stick at. To increase your burst damage further with Grenades, see the SD/Grenades build above.

PISTOLS AND DRINKS
A popular survivalist build in WvW that takes advantage of the great utility in Elixirs, and the great conditions and control of Pistol/Pistol. No kits. Pistols Only. Final Destination.
FLAMENOMMER
AoEs, Crits, and food that gives health on crit. Great for Orr-farming, if you can live without the Magic Find food.

SUPPORT
BOMB HEALER
A popular melee-range support build based on the Grandmaster Trait, Elixir-Infused Bombs. With all that neosporin in there, it’s bound to do something good right?
