Just a quick question, hoping a dev will answer.
I currently have a Level 30-something character. I do not have a lot of free time, so I haven’t been able to level him up to 80 and get 100% world completion like I was originally hoping to do before the first content patch.
My question is simple. Will I need to have an 80 character in order to get the most out of the event, or can I participate in the event with a character of any level without extreme difficulty?
Thanks to whoever can answer.
Every single thing about Guild Wars 2 so far for me has been perfect, save for one thing, Personal Story. The Personal Story needs some work done.
Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but the purpose of the story to begin with is to further the overall Guild Wars 2 plot and provide a decent distraction from everything you do regularly in the game.
Now, that’s great and all, but I would be a lot more excited to do my Personal Storyline if it wasn’t so freaking difficult! It’s not just a single mission that I’m having trouble with, every single Story quest has me dying and re-spawning at least 5-10 times, and that’s not an exaggeration. The Personal Story shouldn’t be easy, it should challenge me and make me think, but I shouldn’t feel forced to do it, I should want to do it.
I can’t be the only one here that is finding things hard to complete. Please, ArenaNet, really nerf some of the NPCs in Personal Story and buff your companion NPCs that are supposed to ally you on your PS quests. I just can’t take this anymore. PS is becoming a chore when it should be something I want to do more often.
Better this way. It’s a matter of time before you come across a bug you hate even more than waiting for the patch. When they patch every day, it proves they are constantly fixing, and that’s a + in my book.
I agree with RebelYell. We need a buff on XP rates.
It’s amazing how many fanboys are here. Horrible. I love this game just as much as the fanboys, and I have to agree with the OP. I am having the exact same problem. Of course, when I brought it up in the map chat the other day I was immediately cursed out by the fanboys playing that told me I was “leveling wrong…” whatever that means.
I get 100% map completion, do all Personal Story, do every event I come across, and craft. I always find myself 1 or 2 levels behind the area I am supposed to be. There is a simple fix to this problem, and ArenaNet REALLY needs to do that. Buff the XP gain per event and heart quest. Really simple. The ones already over-leveled won’t know the difference and the ones under-leveled will have a much better time.
Please, ArenaNet, make it happen.
Are they hard? Yes. Are they doable? Also…yes. However, the main thing I want to say about the story is that I don’t think they SHOULD be hard. In my book, the story is there as a quick distraction from your regular heart quests and events and to push forward the overall story of GW2, which will obviously be expanded on in the future.
IMO, the Personal Story is the most flawed aspect of the game at the moment. One of these reasons is that it is a bit difficult. Not that difficulty is a bad thing, it’s just that it’s difficult in a way that is very, very tedious. I really have fun in games not when something is difficult but when something feels epic. That’s why some of the events are so fun, because they feel epic. The fact that the story can be so difficult can take away from the story itself because I am more focused on the simple grind of completing a mission rather than enjoying the story in it’s glory.
If there’s one thing I will say about personal story, I think that GW2 needs to learn a few lessons from it’s competition here. SWTOR has amazing, amazing, amazing Class Storylines and dialogue. Definitely the main highlight of TOR. GW2 tries but sadly fails to be in the same level as TOR is when it comes to story. Take a few things from them in the Personal Story and I will be one happy player.
There are a number of flaws in the personal story. Let’s list them for ANet. Feel free to add to this list.
-No dialogue choices
-Dialogue cutscenes look bland and unrealistic. Make it cinematic!
-Quality>Quantity. Too many boring subplots and uninteresting characters.
-Voice acting needs better directing, as a poster above me put.
Anything else? Add to the list. Let’s make this easy on ANet so that they know what they can do to make the game even better than it already is.
Here’s the thing. I agree with everything said here, but it’s not that big of a problem for me. SWTOR spent many, many, many millions of dollars on story and voice acting. What paid off was some awesome, entertaining, AAA quality main storylines, but boring quest dialogue. I always just went into “WoW mode” after talking to an NPC. I immediately forgot what the story was and I just went and did my objectives. Eventually I started spacebarring to level 50, with the exception of class storylines.
What I would really like from ANet, assuming they have the resources and time, is a patch that changes all the Personal Storyline dialogue in the game into a cinematic cutscene similar to that of SWTOR. All the voice acting is already done, just make it feel a bit more realistic.
And in a couple of years when the first expansion comes out, give us some dialogue options for our personal storyline. That will make the game so much more immersive and interesting.
I’d like to say two things:
1. It is stated by ANet that expansions won’t be charged. So nobody’s milking nobody.
2. Grinding is only an option. Without grinding, you can still get good gear. There are lots of articles out there about how to do this.
Monthly content updates will be free. Full fledged expansion packs will require purchase. We won’t see a full expansion for a couple of years, most likely.
But come on ANet! Let’s bring Update 1.1 by the end of September!
I hope not. I don’t want to see them doing what the other companies who are afraid of GW2 did – they released patches, beta, launch, new content, and what not, on dates near or exactly on GW2’s launch dates – 3-day headstart, 1-day headstart, public launch.
Doing that is a strong indication that you are afraid of the competitor. You recognize publicly that the competitor did the right thing and is on the right path. Let them keep their worries internally in their office’s four walls.
Besides, it is better to do nothing and still see the sales and CCU (concurrent users) going up because that’s tells much more – it means the game truly is a success despite the new content and efforts of your competitors.
If anything, new content or major content patch for GW2 or any event thereof, should start mid or late October. Give late September and early October to the Pandas, watch the sales and CCU. If it still goes up and the curve did not show a lot of sales/CCU slowing down, then GW2 is no doubt a huge success. After that, it’s time to do retention
Hmm, true. However, I do hope we get content monthly. Monthly = keeps me playing the game more often.
SWTOR at launch: We want to make people feel like they are getting their money’s worth every month, so we will be releasing new content updates every month.
9 MONTHS LATER: 3 content updates have been released.
GW2 at launch: We will be giving consistent updates free!
Let’s hope that means monthly updates. RIFT gives content patches every 2 months, so in order to “give more content than any sub-based MMO” they need to release a patch monthly. New events and at least one piece of content would be ideal, I think.
I predict a surprise content update before September ends. A couple new Dynamic Events and a new dungeon included. I’m also buying gems every month too…because even if we got NO new content at all for 2 years until the first expansion, I would still pay a subscription fee. I like this game that much. So I’m going to prove it by buying a bunch of random crap from the store.
But come on ANet! Let’s bring Update 1.1 by the end of September!
I don’t think they will refer to it as 1.1 by the way. I think we will see a gradual roll out of improvements and new features instead of “big” patch days. Now I am sure for events like opening a new zone will have big patches of course. But looking back at Guild Wars 1, they never really had “patch” days…they kind of just happened and sometimes by surprise!
I agree with the poster about playing to the games strengths: I expect to see improvements to dynamic events and new forms of events. I am really curious how they are going to handle holiday events as they might need to introduce a new style of event. Guild Wars had collections quests which is not really possible with the current even system to run 24-7.
I expect to see expansions to crafting with new recipes (not advertised of course!).
But really the game’s main feature is the dynamic events, so I expect them to introduce new and more complex events as they refine and improve their tools to be able to handle new challenges.
While I really love the game, I am very excited to see what kind of new content they can put out and what kind of improvements they can make as time goes on. Updates always get me really excited
I do kind of hope they refer to it as 1._ though. Not because it will actually change what is in the patch, just because it’s an MMO thing…it’s like when I play 1.0 I know we’re in Vanilla and that after 1.1, AKA the first major patch, we are technically no longer in Vanilla.
Also, a list of things they should add.
-New dynamic events (not in patch notes, free)
-New Dungeons (in BLTC)
-New WvW Maps (in BLTC)
-New PvP Maps (in BLTC)
-New zones (free or BLTC, don’t expect these for quite a while)
Also, I know this sounds a bit stupid, but I kind of hope Areanet goes for monthly content updates. They probably won’t be this frequent, but having monthly content will keep people active and interested in the game. It was what SWTOR promised and didn’t deliver. Hoping Areanet can do this, but that would mean 1.1 is due in less than 3 weeks, highly doubt that. Hey, you never know.
Hey guys,
For the past few weeks, Areanet has been committed to squashing bugs, and I’m thrilled with that. (The game was pretty polished at launch too, BTW). But now that it appears things are coming together officially with the forums being brought up, let’s look to the future.
They have yet to release any information about what Update 1.1 will have in store, so I’m putting the question out there. What do you want in 1.1? When do you think 1.1 will be released? What do you think we will see beyond 1.1? How often do you think we will get updates?
Talk about it all here. Not that there isn’t plenty of content already in the game, but MMOs are built by the future. Discuss the future here, before ANet officially reveals what they have in store.
